Definately no Windows Mobile 7 for HD2??

I work in the industry and we had a vist from Windowsphone Rep today and he confirmed, no matter how much i argued the subject with info, that the HD2 will not be getting WinMo 7 update, this, as he explained was due to minimum requirement of device for WinMo 7 and the HD2 does not match the hardware requirements, namely the graphic accellerator chipset on board is not compatable with inbuilt use of things like Silverlight which is going to be a feature of WM7????
What he did confirm is some of the things WinMo7 will be able to do, like gaming, start the game on PC, continue on your XBox and if you want log on and finish on the WinMo7 phone.....
so there you go...... question is was he telling the truth or just BS'ing????
Sounds like win mo 7 is going to be pants man. I think I'll be keeping my hd2 for as long as possible and going for the 4th gen iphone
I have waited to get HD2 for over 6 months since it came out in Europe. Playing with in the phone in the store and reading various different forums and posts. I have decided to get a device that will be supported in the long run. I'm thinking of getting a HTC Incredible from Verizon over HD2.

this was confirmed like on mix 10? (15. march)
-but there will likely be an unofficial WP7 port-
My HD2 will probably be my last Winmo based phone, this is not to say I don't love my HD2 as I do. There are only a few things I like about the upcoming W7PS the rest IMO looks bloody aweful, it is like it's designed for a child. If HTC ever develope another phone based on Winmo and manage to cover the Winmo7 with a newer type of Sense, I'll reconsider .
Other than that I don't give a dam about W7PS, all hype and I'd put money on it being a spectacular failure. Microsoft tend to 'hit or miss' with most things they do, just like HTC really .
I'm not looking forward to the day when I need replace my LEO, as I do think it's awesome just the way it is now .

Breaking news ! First windows 7 original rom is out !

It seems that the very first windows 7 rom is out ...it has appears here on xda and DA_g is already working on it..it seems that the first device to get the updates it will obviusly be the HD2...
Anyway I don't know what think, I'm not very impressed from windows phone 7, expecialy I don't want to lost manila..
here is the thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=681659
cool news!!
maybe our s200 chiefs get it running on our devices ;-)
We should make some kind of fund to interest some people to port it to acer since there aren't that much developers for the neotouch?
Or is Arto or brainmaster interested?
it's not so easy ...at the moment just do the dumpo is preatty difficoult...don't expect anythin in the mid-term...
I am interested in cooking WM7 for NeoTouch, so i will stay in touch and follow the development of ROM.
Now i am on vacation and be back in 2 Weeks.
I will stay tuned too on this but I dont expect to much the possibility of cooking that...
as for me until microsoft don't bring multitasking and third party app support I'm not very interested to that...if I wanna an embedded device I would have bought a nokia or something else...
by the way I have seen the multitasking of the palm pixi...and I have to say that it's very nice ! would be awsome to bring that interface on windows mobile.
You can seen in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI5tLZH4nEY .arto what do you think ?
Getting wp7 on the acer s200 or any other qsd8xxxx platform device wont be as straight foward as it was getting 6.5 to our current devices, da-g has said it the devices will brick, jtag will be needed, and lots of other things will go wrong, wp7 wont be as easy as porting 6.5 to an arm7 device, this will require a lot of skill and luck and most of all time, i can bet my neck that we wont see a half working rom for atleast a year, hell maybe more, lets just be patient and hope that da_g can find a way to flash this new generation of rom's on to the current qsd8xxx platform devices.
I see, anyway as for me, until mocrosoft won't bring multitasking support and third party apps I'm not very interested in it ...

:O very very nice, this is what i call multitasking .i really want to have this on my acer neotouch
Hoping that microsoft will release WP7 soon......
Another 'let's donate to con-men' thread... Forget it, if you need an iPhone go buy it and be happy... I don't get why those people've bought a 'classic' WM smartphone if they want a thing similar to iPhone/ Android (which is in fact, a substitute/clone of an iPhone)

[Q] Do you guys think we'll be getting WP8?

As above, do you think we'll be getting WP8 on the HD2 when it's released?
yes, why not??
I want so, but there is some drawbacks
Like some hardware restrictions, like low cpu clocks...
And the dammm batery drain...
I'll ditch HD2 for a WP8 device as soon as it comes out
i highly doubt it, but who knows if WP8 can run on HD2, i'm not against it.
but agreed. As soon as WP8 devices become available, i'll try to get my hands on one.
ill not be getting any WP phone unless its fully unlocked like the HD2, the improvement in hardware is minimal anyway and the HD2 does more or less anything the new bloody can do....in saying that, from what ive read the WP8 update would be back ported to current first and second gen WP7 devices, this back port would be limited as some hardware features will not be present....obviously!
the big question is will the HD2 get the update and that I can not answer with even a guess, our ROM cooking overlords will need to answer that one.
Lets look at the history.
Htc Hd2 Windows Mobile handset? yes.
Rumored to receive WP7 as update? Yes.
Test for upcoming WP7 devices? Yes.
Officially announced update for HD2? No.
Latest unofficial update of WP7 for HD2? yes.
It's a possibility of having on it but more of a yes cause I'm assuming Microsoft and their partners are using current Windows Phone handsets for Apollo (WP8). Just like how Microsoft and HTC used the HD2 as a test phone for the "new" OS (Windows Phone 7.0). Also, several Windows Phone devices have similar specs to the HTC HD2.
I waiting on IT!!

will it be much different that the current WP 7.5 thou ??
I have downloaded and installed WIN 8 on a PC and played around with it for a while . Some nice effects with tiles etc clearly moving towards touch screen interaction.
It was after playing with it that i realized WP 7.5 is actually quite a MS pioneer.
I dont think WP8 will be that much different than what we have now to be honest and lets face it , making a call , sending SMS & MMS , email wont change much ...what is there to change.
MS will be focusing on PC and tablets is my guess so i wouldn't hold your breath for a true certified WP version any time soon
Just my 2 cents worth
I think there is a chance, because the HD2 can run so many operating systems. But also the older hardware is probably not going to help either.

I agree with you.windows 8 and wp8 are very good operation. We hd2 owners are happy with seeing wp8 ported on leo.
So do you guys think that WP8 will get a section of its own under the "LEO: HD2" if it is ported to the HTC HD2? Or will it be combined with WP7?

if it runs WP8 then there would be no use for WP7 on our device and there wouldn't be enough interest to warrant having another forum

I think it should be its own forum. There would still be people who like WP7 and prefer that instead of 8 like people that prefer XP over Windows 7. Then there would be further development of WP7 that branches away from WP8 like current XP customizations and development that branches away from Windows 7.
i agree.
I think the Wp7 (.5) dev will be around for a long time to come. Certainly until the release of the WP8 Apollo
and even then there's the question can it be ported to HD2 and of course what are the requirements of WP8.
Current rumors wont even commit to it being available on current WP7 devices ( Nokia Lumia etc)
Then there's the issue of connecting with WP8 desktop ( and win 7 win XP). Nobody knows for sure what can and cant be done. It would seem MS are slowly turning into apple with regard to their policies. Before you know it we'll be tied to MS market place and MS music etc. Dont think so
I really don't think you will get any better performance . software or battery out of WP8 ( if it comes) SO why worry?
If it loks your after then WP 8 already looks like our WP 7.
If it is really breaking your heart then make a WP8 lock screen

by the same logic we should have android forums for every revision and WM 6 forums and WM 6.5 forums.
the reality is, there is plenty of sub forums
HD2 Android development
HD2 WM development
HD2 WP development
and even the questionable HD2 Linux and meego development
you dont need sub forums for every single thing, IF WP8 is ported to the HD2 i would propose the forum be renamed to WP rather than WP7 people will more than liklely move to WP8 ROMS.
The WP7 Overall development should be renamed WP and incompass all versions of WP
The same

Either a section of its own or sub section (like android 1. SD Card 2 NAND)
I say that as it is likely to take a while to get it really usable as was the case with WP7. So early adopters can converse and solve problems. But WP7 can still keep running along nicely and forum members not have to content with the issues to do with WP8. Personally I hate it when we have completely different aspects mixed in forums - gets just too hard to follow - I used to manage a couple of forums, so speaking from experience.
My strong vote is for a WP7 forum and a separate WP8 forum

Yes but why are you waiting for WP8 to be ported ? I am genuinely interested to know what you think you'll get from WP8 that you don't already have in WP7
One thing i'd like to see is the return of direct contacts syncing via usb . Although im not holding my breath
Even Apple itards can sync their phone with outlook
HD2 is the king!
Hehe,I hope our HD2 can update to wp8.In fact i like the mag2.0.1 batter than this.

HTC HD2 and Windows Phone 8

Well,
What do u guys Think? Can the HD2 handle Wp8? or maybe only Windows Phone 7.8? Im acutally going to base my desicion of buying a new phone upon whether HD2 will get windows phone 8 or not.
All devs busted there asses working on the HD2, i mean what more can we ask from them?
7.8 yes but WP8 no... WP8 have different hardware.... maybe someone cook lite version but look how many problems we have with drivers for now...
so true, there are so many bugs and more and more devs drop their developing for HD2 and moves on to new devices, which means we are in a down hill and it will be harder and harder to fix many bugs and strange behaviours. Correct me if im wrong, but I guess we should be happy if we even get WP 7.8 anytime before summer of 2013

+1 on this.. i'm pretty sure it wont get a wp8. the device is pretty old now. but i believe wp 7.8 will be out soon(almost in sync with hd7) as we have all the drivers. :good:

Well, if the rumors are true, HTC could will release the HTC Rio, a WP8 device witch same specifications that HTC HD2. In this case, HD2 can update to Windows Phone 8 witch the help of developers.
Is it the same Snapdragon ? Same Ram ? Same Sensors? Same Screen?

I wouldnt bet on that if I were you .
We said this so many times before, until I lost count loll. Just because there is another phone with smiliar specs as the HD2 doesnt mean that all we need is move the software and we are good to go...There is alot of diffrences in the code (not to mention Windows CE => Windows NT) between WP 7.5 and WP8, I think we need to rewrite some drivers!!!

It´s true. Drivers could be diferent of the HD2, but also is posible that the HTC Rio have got similar chipset and the drivers ports could be easy. I don´t lose the hope.
HTC Rio is a S4 device and our is S1.
There is still hope though, WP8 has more documentation compared to Windows Phone 7.
Nokia Lumia 920 is out today..
Windows phone 8 looks fantastic, i really hope that you guys can make it.
Please make it happen
Flickr and blur free camera shoots would be just great!
no chance for WP8 on HD2... especially when i see today presentation of Lumia 920....
hardware is toooo low for WP8 and too different....
P.S.
i love Smart Shoot on Lumia 920 automatically remove walking people from photography
lumia 900 can't up to WP8, so i think our HD2 can't too ^^

I love it when the " all knowing" members try to make fun of someone's question. Instead of just replying with a "yes" or "no" someone always has to be a real jerk. They probably will make a wp8 ROM for the HTC hd2, because people enjoy it.

It's not just people enjoying it. Sure, it has its weight, but remember, this ain't Android. We have the source code of almost nothing.
If we can find a device with very similar (read, almost all) hardware, we might have a chance of using it's drivers on HD2.
Has it stands, i hardly doubt there will be a single core, adreno200 WP8 device. Even on WP7 we're strugling with driver incompatibility. Why do you think we have such weird battery usage? And that camera trick? That's a exploit that's probably reseting some driver/process and lowering our battery consumption.
Where there's a will, there's a way... it's not impossible, just very difficult and highly improvable.
the porting of 7.8 has been very simple for devs, i think that we have serious possibilities to see WP8 on hd2!

[Q] ..who is the possible successor of the HD2?

Hi everibody,
I think that due to hardware limiations, during this last year our beloved LEO has passed from the top range to mid-range of mobile phones. plus there is to consder that probably the developing will continue only for android. In your opinion would be a successor of the HTC HD2? I mean, would it probably be in the future a terminal able to load both android and Windows phone 8?
Haha 'in the last year'? It dropped to mid range a while back, there are just some things which put behind quite quickly. I'd say that now it's at the bottom of the mid-range phones, especially with its GPU. Having said that, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind (and in many others', I can assure you) that it's also a brilliant phone and will always remain so.
As for your question, it's quite tough for any phone to have so much success. The HD2 was launched in the dying days of WinMo with (at the time) stunning hardware, and people expected Windows Phone 7 to be on its way soon. The level of development was huge when there was no update, as the phone was such a waste of hardware whilst running WinMo. I highly doubt we will see another phone which pushes the limits of hardware but runs on an outdated OS any time soon, so there likely won't be any true successor to the HD2.
Agreed.
What would make our hardware better, is... new internals. It's gonna be hard getting stuff to all be compatible like drivers and such, but it's a viable idea.

hmmmm maybe not successor but is there any phone out there that can run what the HD2 runs? HSPL, clk, magldr, nativeSD, HD2 roms etc.

that's exactely what I am asking for. Of course, I don't expect all this huge developing. but I would be happy if a newer and more powerful mobile phone would let me choose between Windows phone 8 and android...
If devs port haret in to wp8 then it will be posible to run android.

If haret will be run on Windows 8, whould it probably be an alternative bootloader or in any chase you have to start your phone with WP8 and after that running haret from it? I mean..can haret open a way to unlock the bootloader?
