So I hope this is allowed since your the most people I trust lol. I searched but couldn't find a smilar thread to post in on the epic forums.
So I wanna buy a laptop. I want to get the best I can have that will do good with android work and cost up to about $300. I don't really wanna spend more for a laptop. And I don't wanna have to order it online unless that's the only way to actually get it. So if its in a well known store that would be bettter.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Dunno if you can even get a new laptop for that much. Spent 650$ for mine its a pretty decent laptop. What kind of android work do you mean? Rom compiling? Kernel compiling? I would say new egg.com is pretty good with used laptops that are decent if you want a good laptop you'll need to spend more than 300$

Lol well I guess ill have to just search and see what I find. And I wanted to do mods and roms so I would need ubunto so something that would work good with that.

You'll need something pretty beefy otherwise you'll spend all day compiling one rom. Recommend amount of just ram is 16gb for compiling ics. Just look around the interwebs. I'm sure you could find something decent.

The first one is better. Its actually almost similar to mine accept I have the DV6z quad core with an amd a8 although with that graphics card you will need to run lmde because Ubuntu does not like it. Its almost the same gpu as mine buy I paid more for mine and its at a higher clock speed and better model gpu. It should be sufficient.

Both have AMD APU's.
I've been told (by a friend) the AMD APU's don't play that well with Ubuntu.
Could have been user error, but IIRC he said he found a good bit of people having trouble online..
Just givin a heads up, if others have reason to disagree or personal experience, go with their advice over mine...

Well see thats my question.
will the Evo 3d be a Lg phone or a htc phone?
It has that Samsung feel to it, but it's a pretty sweet phone. It feels solid and the little chin bit feels nice in the hand, but I'm not huge on the plastic myself. Nice to see it at least come to Sprint, I'm not entirely sold on these dual cores as I don't game or take in a whole lot of media on it sans music / random videos. 3D phones ... ehh, it should be the big phone of the 2 and I know the 3D toggle will be there ... and there is all that talk about 3D on displays that don't really do it justice ... blah blah blah. I'd consider the Nexus S, especially for just a year. Will be interesting to see what is what.
I'm itching to find out how much it'll sell for. I don't have any problems with selling my Evo to get my hands on a Nexus S on Sprint.

they will soon. probably at ctia. but their dual cores are inferior to the tegra/samsung dual cores. @ 1ghz vs 1ghz, htc/qualcomm's is about 25% slower. qualcomm is setting them at 1.2 ghz so it'll make up some of the gap but power consumption will shoot up plus the tegra 2 is 5nm smaller so tegra 2 is overall more power efficient. i'd personally want a tegra 2 but not much of a choice.

Its just hard to take Samsung serious when it comes to phones. I mean the rule the tv world but I just don't like how they support their phones(taking forever with updates/fixes). Very hard to believe the nexus s is a sammy product and not an HTC.
Nexus S IS NOT SAMSUNG's. For the last time, GOOGLE wanted the phone, GOOGLE gave samsung the specs, GOOGLE tested it, and it's aosp. It is no where close to the **** support that the other samsung craphones get.

Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I tried the Thunderbolt for 2 weeks and returned it and this is why... its about twice as thick and ALOT heavier than the fascinate. Battery wouldn't last all day when I barely used it while my fascinate would easily last 2 days with little use or a full day of heavy use. The screen on the fascinate looks a lot better than the thunderbolt. Another thing I noticed was that the thunderbolt was always a lot hotter then my fascinate even when it was at its regular clock speed and was regularly at 110 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. So if anybody is thinking about getting the thunderbolt I hope I saved you the $35 restocking fee.
Nice to hear that the grass isn't always greener!

Kernels will help with the battery life, and I've used it and I don't mind the heaviness at all. The main reasons why I'm not bothering to upgrade to it is because the screen isn't as nice, and the GPU doesn't seem as good as the Fascinate's. To expand on that GPU point, I used Neocore on my sister's Thunderbolt and my Fascinate at the same time, and my Fascinate performed smoother and quicker, however the final FPS score was apparently better on the Thunderbolt's, which I found strange. However visuals don't lie, while benchmarks sometimes do (especially quadrants).
Overall, I'd just wait for a decent dual-core phone on Verizon, rather than upgrading to the Thunderbolt. Galaxy S II anyone?

I havent had 2 weeks worth of trial with it, but my Daughter just got one. As with every phone, it has it's ups and downs. I agree with most of the OP, but it has some positives. The front camera for one, the 4G for another.
It is like heaving around a brick though in size and weight compared to the Fascinate.
I am not switching to anything anytime soon, but I would still wait awhile to see what the community does with the customizations before i would choose anything...
ha I don't care even if Galaxy 2 has 2ghz triple core, I wouldn't buy Samsung phone again. I'd rather have faster update than better hardware.

That might be because the fascinate is framerate limited to ~60 fps, it won't go above 60, even if the GPU could run it faster
Battery life for me has been similar to my fascinate and it was worth switching just to be able to use data while I'm using the phone. My area won't have LTE for another year but I use a lot of data and getting an unlimited plan while verizon still offers them seemed prudent.

Doesn't look that way since article states :
"The device is expected to be powered by either Texas Instrument's OMAP 4460 chip or an ultra low-power 28nm Krait-based Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm running at 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz."
There could be manufacturing delays with tegra 3 so they might stick with dual core. Instead of releasing with a dual core at end of 2011 they should release with a quad core in beginning of 2012.

Well, since he wants to develop, the first thing he should do is format the harddrive and install linux lol. Ubuntu 10.10 or 11.04... your choice. As far as RAM goes, get AT LEAST 4gigs. Compiling uses cpu, so get at least an i5, gpu... the only laptops with good gpu's are expensive and you don't really need a gpu to compile or dev, so you'll be good with an integrated intel one... don't expect to game out of it though... and lastly get adequat hdd space... like at least aa 500gb hard drive...

That's a nice machine at a nice price, but watch what graphics you get those intel hd chips are kinda cheesy for a lot of online games. I got a lenovo t510 that is very similar and its only downfall IMHO is the intel hd graphics.

for 500 you really cant get a decent graphics card that is good for gaming... so yeah go the asus looks nice.
I've been pretty happy with my Asus n450 OCed to 1850mhz, bought it for $200 on ebay NIB. I agree with tigerdirect.com and techbargins.com to find a good deal...

You don't need an Intel laptop get one with a E-350 which is better than Intel HD graphics. If you do get an Intel laptop make sure you get the 2nd gen Core processors because battery life is amazing. Core i3 2310m or Core i5 2410m
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4134/the-brazos-review-amds-e350-supplants-ion-for-miniitx/1
I'm using a DV6T which has a Core i7 2630Qm and an AMD 6770m runs most my games at mid settings. I like bragging.
You should care about Graphics...

But if you really don't care about graphics this would suite you well

My opinion lol;
Dell is your way to go. Dell uses pretty decent hardware with little issue from it. the processors are always top I believe only i5s and up now but the best thing is the extended warranty. You will have no issues getting your pc fixed from them if you ever do run into a problem. They send the repair man to my house so no sending the pc off for repair. Newegg is excellent but I don't like not having dells warranty backing it so if your not getting top of the line parts in it from newegg id be careful. Hp, emachine and unfortunately even toshiba now I wouldn't buy because the rate their hw fails. Toshiba used to be my goto brand.

For those of you interested in the Galaxy III, here's a leaked video which shows it. I didn't see a thread about it in this section, unless I'm blind(Or if it was deleted).

No it's not It's either the Galaxy M / Galaxsy s2 plus Samsung has bashed it already
the specs are what i expected... the only question is ... pentile or no pentile? keyboard or no keyboard (on Sprint)?

Android Police are saying S3 also
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-1-4ghz-quad-core-processor-and-720p-display/
Its the s3... I doubt they make a sgs2+ that's stupid. This isn't bad spec wise anyways... this sounds more realistic. 2.0ghz quadcore exynos and 2gb of ram is a little to much hype. 1.4ghz quadcore and 1gb ram sounds just about right.

I do not need more ram than my laptop nor a better processor than 75% of PCs...

I think 2GB RAM would be pushing it, but I do seriously hope this comes with the 5250 dual A15 processor. That's a significant upgrade IMO.
EDIT: I guess it's not really an opinion as much as it's a fact...

No, you weren't. We'll see what's Sprint version is going to be. I'm wondering if that quad-core supports LTE. I'm leaning towards the Nexus right now.

From my experience, Samsungs may "feel" cheap, but they are more rugged than any HTC friends and family have had. Sure those thin metal accents look and feel nice in your hand, but I know too many people with their HTC's having chunks of their phones missing, scratches, and dings. I've dropped my phone a few times and it still looks like new with no sort of extra protection.
As I tweeted about this last night, whoever at Samsung designed the Touchwiz UI for ICS needs to be shot. Then fired. In that order. That is the WORST looking UI on an ICS device :\
