Can't upgrade to CWM - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I can't seem to find the / cust_backup file to replace the recovery.img any ideas?
I used superoneclick to root my u8800. I've tried holding the vol+/ vol- and power button together to get to the pink screen but when I plug in my USB data cable to my PC nothing comes up. Before on froyo it would and I could see the Image file which allowed me to replace the recovery.img
I've looked on the guides to upgrade to 5.5.0.4 and 5.0.2.7 and they all require me to find the ./cust_backup file which I can't find

did you sucessfully rooted your device?
You'll need a File Explorer with root permissions to find ./cust_backup folder.

yes it is successfully rooted, I've checked with various apps and superoneclick itself

How are you trying to access /cust_backup?
You'll need Root Explorer or something similar, because you have locked bootloader

Thank you so much it worked with root explorer!
I was using es file explorer but I guess it doesn't work

es file explorer does not have root access(by default, but you can activate it through es file explorer settings). It means that cannot access to the entire filesystem.
Glad it worked

Es file explorer, has root access(just needed to be activated from settings).

You should flash the unlocked bootloader from 518 rom(there is a thread called "get your pink screen back" by bluefish), to have more options to recover the device if something going wrong.

Swype trial ended [Solved]

so before I went to bed, I was using Swype fine, no problems with it.
I woke up this morning and tried to reply to a text, after I've Swyped the word, and error prompt pops out.
here's a picture of it.

I've done some searching on Google, there was a problem like this on HTC Eris and all 4 months back when Swype was in the Beta period, now it's pretty much final(I'm guessing?) and I've never had any problems with any other firmwares (I'm on JPK now)[then again I stayed on JPK the longest].
XDA search is down so I'm unable to search, and hence I'm sorry if this has been addressed already.
I hope the solution won't involving me reflashing. finally settled down and bam, **** happened.
Thanks.
edit1: solved.

The work around is: Using a root file explorer (I used AntTek Explorer), you'll need to rename/delete the existing Swype files in order to reinstall the newer working version. To do this, start your root-explorer and navigate to /system/app/Swype.apk, and rename it (I added .bak to the file name). Then do the same for /system/lib/libSwypecore.so
Now reboot your phone, then rerun the Swype Installer! Wallla!

My phone is rooted and every file explorer I use has been granted superuser permissions but it still will not rename or delete the Swype files

[APP] MIUI Compatible System Font Changer

Hi everyone,
I have seen a few people in search of a way to change the system font in MIUI to a preferred font of their choice. While browsing the Android Apps & Games section, I came across a thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874658) created by user martino2k6, who is also the developer of an app called 'Font Changer Lite' (paid version also available).
This app basically does what it says on the tin. After installing, it allows you to select from a range of compatible font formats which you place in the .fontchanger directory located in the root of your SD card. The only drawback is that it requires you to have the NAND unlocked (S-OFF), as it requires r/w access to the /system/fonts partition (full root) while the phone is powered on, just like MetaMorph does.
I think its a great app, and one that is definately worth purchasing.
Note: This app will also work with non-MIUI ROMs.

You dont really need an app for this. just follow these simple instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9782857&postcount=3805
If you're s-offed and have root explorer then you can use the above method. If youre s-on and/or don't have root explorer then you can push the files by adb instead

Rooted My Nexus 7 but cant change system files..

I'm quite new to the whole android scene .. Got a Nexus 7 couple of days ago rooted it using the tool kit:
Its now unlocked and has SuperUser installed.
However I want access to files in the system/media which I can get via Android Commander but it's saying Im not Rooted ( Meaning I cannot swap or replace any stock files on the device)
Any ideas?
Try using Root explorer or ES File explorer (enable root access in settings). Did you get a popup from SuperUser asking to grant/deny root access?

Ill try ES now.. and Yes SuperUser does notify me for request which I grant.
Root explorer lets you remount the filesystem you are in like below

So for instance now I have enabled Root access in ES explorer How can I swap files from the tablet to the PC?
Normally, you will have placed the file(s) from the PC you want to use on the SDcard first, then you can use the file manager to access where you want, move/copy etc...
Would suggest you have a decent backup (or nandroid backup) first and if you are replacing system files, it is always a good idea to have a copy of the original so you can put it back if needed.

Well I may have found the other stored Image files for the boot, but I cant move them .. meaning i still dont have root access? I don't know it's making me rage.

R/W or not?

Root Browser tells me my \system folder has read write access, and I was successful in renaming the file in \system\app to block OTA. However, ES File Explorer tells me that my \system folder is read only. If that was the case, wouldn't I have gotten an error messages when renaming the file?

Strange you posted something like that. I was always scared to post something like that myself at one point lol. Does ES have root granted? That seemed to fix that issue with mine a few months ago.
Ya it does. Lol scared to post that why?

I'm always unsure if my question is a stupid question. You then get attacked by all kinds of people lol.
I'm not sure what to say about ES. In case your antsy you can always free the 2 updater apps with root uninstaller or something similar. This has worked for me in the past. One is something like OTAUpdate and there's another one that says something like firmware updater or something like that.

You can set the permissions on individual files. Might be why the folder shows read only but you where able to rename the file.
If you look at my screens hot of root browser, you'll see that. The system folder has rw for the Owner (me since I'm rooted)

If Root Explorer said it changed it, I'm sure that it changed it. Try to view the file on ES and see if the name reflects the change.
ES file Manager now has an option for Root Explorer (turn it on or off). If it's off it won't request superuser access.
Look under settings in ES file manager, scroll down and turn on Root Explorer.

SD-card write permission denied when using MTP

I've just discovered that I no longer can write to my sd-card using MTP. Seems like a permission issue as I get a few permission denied errors like below in the logcat. When using MTP in TWRP recovery it works just fine.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
04-28 14:18:51.218 5145 12786 E DatabaseUtils: java.lang.SecurityException: Permission Denial: reading com.android.providers.media.MediaProvider uri content://media/external/fs_id from pid=15493, uid=10221 requires android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, or grantUriPermission()

Dont you have to grant MTP access to the Card
(Going of the logic of any file managers, When they require access to the SD Card
They point you to the a Folder Explorer to access the SD Card and grant it access
(root Explorer and so on all require this)
Could it be the same? I have yet to use MTP to transfer files, Download Root explorer, Copy files to Internal memory, then use Root explorer to copy to the SD Card.
You will be prompted to allow read / write access
(Does not answer your initial question, but a direction to go looking at maybe)
Sounds reasonable, but you would expect MTP to ask for rw access on the device. This worked until I flashed the latest firmware, now it's foobar.

Did you wipe or Keep Data?
A idea (A long short dont hold your breath)
Settings: Application Manager: More: Show System Apps
find External Storage and clear cache.
Reboot, try again.
I did keep data, so that might have influenced it. Unfortunately clearing cache didn't help.
The permissions for the mounted SD-card folder show up as "drwxrwx--x root sdcard_rw" which makes me think that the MTP process is not running as a member of sdcard_rw group.
OKAY, you rooted? Root Explorer is what am using. You can change the owner within the app.
