Swype trial ended [Solved] - Galaxy S I9000 General

so before I went to bed, I was using Swype fine, no problems with it.
I woke up this morning and tried to reply to a text, after I've Swyped the word, and error prompt pops out.
here's a picture of it.

I've done some searching on Google, there was a problem like this on HTC Eris and all 4 months back when Swype was in the Beta period, now it's pretty much final(I'm guessing?) and I've never had any problems with any other firmwares (I'm on JPK now)[then again I stayed on JPK the longest].
XDA search is down so I'm unable to search, and hence I'm sorry if this has been addressed already.
I hope the solution won't involving me reflashing. finally settled down and bam, **** happened.
Thanks.
edit1: solved.

Got Swype to work

The work around is: Using a root file explorer (I used AntTek Explorer), you'll need to rename/delete the existing Swype files in order to reinstall the newer working version. To do this, start your root-explorer and navigate to /system/app/Swype.apk, and rename it (I added .bak to the file name). Then do the same for /system/lib/libSwypecore.so
Now reboot your phone, then rerun the Swype Installer! Wallla!

Swype came with Serendipity6.4 when I flashed it... How do I manually install swype after changing the files?

My phone is rooted and every file explorer I use has been granted superuser permissions but it still will not rename or delete the Swype files

I Lost Resco Explorer!

Hi, First say that I'm spanish and y don't know write English very well..
Congratulations for the forum.
This morning I installed accidentally the Resco Explorer, then i had two folders to Resco..Then I deleted one folder and...WOU! Two folders have been deleted!
Any solution? Or I will make a Hard Reset?
Thanks and I'm sorry if I misspelled something!
Reinstall Resco?Look in the recycle bin and restore the files.
(i don't know if i correctly understood your problem)
if you install resco explorer, jou will have 2 new items in the start menu, 1 is the explorer itself, the other is the resco updater. if you uninstall the explorer, the updater will be uninstalled too.

[Q] reboot option in power menu

hello i5800 users
i was looking for ways to add a reboot option in the power menu but none seem compatible with i5800. AFAIK it is done by installing andoid.policy.jar but how can i do it for i5800? any ideas?
p.s. something like "Hot Reboot" would also be very useful.
thanks in advance
If you have a rooted phone then you can use switch pro widget to reboot. Another free alternate is to use widgetsoid2.x
Just add widget to reboot.

my point was i don't want no widgets. i just want to have an option for reboot when i press the power button
Just use AnReboot from the Market, giving you the option to boot into Recovery Mode,as well.
Sent from my GT-I5801 using XDA App
i just use the terminal, su reboot. or su reboot download or whatever kinda reboot i need

Its not about the ROM, I think it can be done by modifying some .jar files or some .xml files.

You can't edit the .jar or XML files without to deodex the rom, and it seems like nobody did that yet...

I just read yesterday what's the matter with "deodexed". Am I right it's about to geht the .odex files back to .jar files? How can that be done?
Can this be done with the "xUltimate"-Tool? I read this was working on the Galaxy Spica...

Couldn't get my swype keyboard metamorph themed...

that is, until now! I'm currently running Fresh rom, latest version with Swype built in, so I was having trouble installing my beta swype (didn't care, stock swype works fine anyway, didn't look into it). I wanted to share what I did in the event that it helps someone at some point.
Anyway, I was having TONS of trouble getting the Metamorph themes of swype to work, as it tells you to look for the swype app here:
data/app/com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk
But I simply did NOT have my swype installed there! I tried several things, took a while but here's the method that worked for me, if anyone else is having similar trouble but is too scared to ask about it (being that the given directions make it seem so simple, but you feel dumb when you can't freakin' figure it out!):
1. Go into root explorer, make sure you're in "RW" mode (click "mount RW" at the top if you aren't), and find system/app/ and find "swype.apk," this is where my swype was originally stored
2. Select "swype.apk" and choose "MOVE," and move it to anywhere that you'll remember, somewhere arbitrary that isn't a folder called "app" (this step is in case you screw something up). This is truly a redundant/paranoid step that I chose to do to make SURE that I have the pure, uncopied, original app somewhere safe.
3. Choose COPY and copy the app. Paste this app BACK into system/app.
4. RENAME this app exactly: com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk
5. REBOOT. Make sure swype is still working, it should be. If not, you named something improperly or put something in the wrong place.
NOW you can follow the pre-existing metamorph directions (already available elsewhere, several threads on here). I don't know who has that com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk in their data/app folder, but I never did. Confused the hell out of me. Now my swype looks DOPE, I'm using some naked version, I believe it's the version from Myn's warm, now in my Flipz Fresh rom! Loving it!
Hope this helps someone Photo attached, hopefully img codes work on this site (forgive newbieness plz)

good tips, I would also like to note that people that installed swype via apks downloaded elsewhere and sideloaded will have the apk named as your morph listed in the proper position. The reason why it was named swype.apk in system/apps is because since it was included in the Fresh build, he decided to make it a system app. Placing it in system/app iirc prevents it from being subject to market checks. I had to go the other way around cuz i modified a morph and swype would break after i applied it, so i had to apply it to the com.android version then rename and move it in to system/app
....oh the many versions of swype floating out there.

Can't upgrade to CWM

I can't seem to find the / cust_backup file to replace the recovery.img any ideas?
I used superoneclick to root my u8800. I've tried holding the vol+/ vol- and power button together to get to the pink screen but when I plug in my USB data cable to my PC nothing comes up. Before on froyo it would and I could see the Image file which allowed me to replace the recovery.img
I've looked on the guides to upgrade to 5.5.0.4 and 5.0.2.7 and they all require me to find the ./cust_backup file which I can't find
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
did you sucessfully rooted your device?
You'll need a File Explorer with root permissions to find ./cust_backup folder.
yes it is successfully rooted, I've checked with various apps and superoneclick itself
How are you trying to access /cust_backup?
You'll need Root Explorer or something similar, because you have locked bootloader
Thank you so much it worked with root explorer!
I was using es file explorer but I guess it doesn't work

es file explorer does not have root access(by default, but you can activate it through es file explorer settings). It means that cannot access to the entire filesystem.
Glad it worked
Es file explorer, has root access(just needed to be activated from settings).
dabien101
You should flash the unlocked bootloader from 518 rom(there is a thread called "get your pink screen back" by bluefish), to have more options to recover the device if something going wrong.

Rooted My Nexus 7 but cant change system files..

I'm quite new to the whole android scene .. Got a Nexus 7 couple of days ago rooted it using the tool kit:
Its now unlocked and has SuperUser installed.
However I want access to files in the system/media which I can get via Android Commander but it's saying Im not Rooted ( Meaning I cannot swap or replace any stock files on the device)
Any ideas?
Try using Root explorer or ES File explorer (enable root access in settings). Did you get a popup from SuperUser asking to grant/deny root access?

So for instance now I have enabled Root access in ES explorer How can I swap files from the tablet to the PC?
Normally, you will have placed the file(s) from the PC you want to use on the SDcard first, then you can use the file manager to access where you want, move/copy etc...
Would suggest you have a decent backup (or nandroid backup) first and if you are replacing system files, it is always a good idea to have a copy of the original so you can put it back if needed.

Well I may have found the other stored Image files for the boot, but I cant move them .. meaning i still dont have root access? I don't know it's making me rage.
