Couldn't get my swype keyboard metamorph themed... - EVO 4G General

that is, until now! I'm currently running Fresh rom, latest version with Swype built in, so I was having trouble installing my beta swype (didn't care, stock swype works fine anyway, didn't look into it). I wanted to share what I did in the event that it helps someone at some point.
Anyway, I was having TONS of trouble getting the Metamorph themes of swype to work, as it tells you to look for the swype app here:
data/app/com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk
But I simply did NOT have my swype installed there! I tried several things, took a while but here's the method that worked for me, if anyone else is having similar trouble but is too scared to ask about it (being that the given directions make it seem so simple, but you feel dumb when you can't freakin' figure it out!):
1. Go into root explorer, make sure you're in "RW" mode (click "mount RW" at the top if you aren't), and find system/app/ and find "swype.apk," this is where my swype was originally stored
2. Select "swype.apk" and choose "MOVE," and move it to anywhere that you'll remember, somewhere arbitrary that isn't a folder called "app" (this step is in case you screw something up). This is truly a redundant/paranoid step that I chose to do to make SURE that I have the pure, uncopied, original app somewhere safe.
3. Choose COPY and copy the app. Paste this app BACK into system/app.
4. RENAME this app exactly: com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk
5. REBOOT. Make sure swype is still working, it should be. If not, you named something improperly or put something in the wrong place.
NOW you can follow the pre-existing metamorph directions (already available elsewhere, several threads on here). I don't know who has that com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk in their data/app folder, but I never did. Confused the hell out of me. Now my swype looks DOPE, I'm using some naked version, I believe it's the version from Myn's warm, now in my Flipz Fresh rom! Loving it!
Hope this helps someone Photo attached, hopefully img codes work on this site (forgive newbieness plz)

good tips, I would also like to note that people that installed swype via apks downloaded elsewhere and sideloaded will have the apk named as your morph listed in the proper position. The reason why it was named swype.apk in system/apps is because since it was included in the Fresh build, he decided to make it a system app. Placing it in system/app iirc prevents it from being subject to market checks. I had to go the other way around cuz i modified a morph and swype would break after i applied it, so i had to apply it to the com.android version then rename and move it in to system/app
....oh the many versions of swype floating out there.

Tired of the old Sprint Ahead animation...replace it!

This is total fluff, but...if you're tired of the Sprint Ahead animation during startup of your device, and are sick of iPhone users whipping out their 'units' to show you how purdy they are...try this on for size.

I made this the same size and frame number as the original so you simply have to drop it into your \windows directory...right-click the image above and 'save picture as...' and rename to 'SPCS_startup.gif' (btw - it doesn't loop...so if you didn't see it, refresh your browser)
Enjoy!
-E
you could just turn off the startup animation using the configuration tools available on this site.
Yeah...I'm aware of that...but where's the fun in that? (also, mine doesn't seem to boot any faster without the animation)
-E
how would i go about this on a vzw xv6800? i am not seeing the SPCS_startup.gif in the windows folder. I'm assuming the startup animation is under a different filename. Anyone know?
can you explain how to do this step by step? sorry just got my phone and still trying to figure out everything
Tried to do this per your instructions on my Mogul but the original file on the stock rom won't delete and it also won't let me copy this one in it's place. What now?

Yea I had this same issue..It doesnt allow you to rename it...or delete it either. Guess its not as easy as he made it seem.

Try copying it to the device first (like in my docs) and then use the file explorer in the device to overwrite the old file.
If you try to do it from your desktop it will simply say the file is protected...
But if you do it from the device it will ask you if you really want to overwrite the file and release it just long enough to let you change the file.
I did this from my Mogul not from the desktop. Used the device to go to this thread. Copied the .gif to my storage card, re-copied and tried to paste to the Windows directory. It asked if I wanted to replace the file with this one. I tapped yes. Error message: File cannot be replaced. Tried to delete the original file. Error message: File cannot be deleted. I appreciate your help with this. I'm not a noob, I just don't really post or upload anything.
use total commander
worked great thanks
Sorry for not explaining it further...and for not getting back to those who were interested. I guess I never even tried to copy directly from the desktop OS...I always pull data from my desktop to storage on the device before doing anything with it.
I'm glad that somebody else out there thought this was at least a little amusing and decided to throw it on their device.

[ADDON LWP] Exclusive Samsung Fascinate LWP collection

so i happened to be viewing an email subscription i get when i happened upon this little tidbit. one of the guys from androidpolice ripped apart the facinate pull, and got the LWP's out of em. unfortunately he made it into a flashable zip so i had to manually adb install the apks and the lib file, but you can do it as well! here's the link to those LWP's
http://www.multiupload.com/503TEPBK4J
originally posted from:Jamezelle and Jcase:

and here's the install instructions:
PREREQUISITES: adb, (dont pm me to ask how to install adb. if you dont know how, you dont need these.) also you need fingers to type with
1.) so you've downloaded the zip, and you wanna install them? well go ahead and open the downloaded zip file with your favorite unzipper. save ALL files somewhere easy to access
2.) adb push the file liblwfa-0.A.2-mng-p1.so from the /system/lib folder of the place you saved the folder to your /system/lib folder
3.) adb install the apks for the lwp you chose from the data folder.
There is no reboot necessary to complete installation, once you adb install, you're done! bam! also instead of installing through adb, you could copy the apks to your sd card, and install through an app installer like astro.
here's a breakdown of which ones which, to give you an easier understanding of what you're gonna want:

To uninstall individual wall papers after flashing you must use adb and the following commands:
adb uninstall com.tat.livewallpaper.layersoflight
adb uninstall com.tat.livewallpaper.forest
adb uninstall com.tat.livewallpaper.flow
adb uninstall com.tat.livewallpaper.connection
adb uninstall com.tat.livewallpaper.luminescence
adb uninstall com.tat.livewallpaper.spark

does it work on the Eris
Why are you in this section? It says HD2. *I think* These walls' are 800 x 480, so it'll probably instacrash the eris.
Thanks to the OP, these are nice and your instructions are spot on!
tytyty!
i am trying to figure out how to use cmd.exe and running the android sdk thingy i don't know how to install these lwp
I installed via astro and every one of them force closes
Look nice, but I find they just use too much power and really affect the performance..things become a little jumpy/laggy.

I'm glad you asked I was searching for LWP for Eris on this form and this thread came up in my search. This is why no ones uses search and they just keeps starting there own thread and asking the sames question over and over again. cause if they go to another thread and ask a question that's requires a simple yes or no we get answer like that. Sorry for my rant just see this all the time in many forums. It gets old quickly. anyways thanks for the answer

Swype trial ended [Solved]

so before I went to bed, I was using Swype fine, no problems with it.
I woke up this morning and tried to reply to a text, after I've Swyped the word, and error prompt pops out.
here's a picture of it.

I've done some searching on Google, there was a problem like this on HTC Eris and all 4 months back when Swype was in the Beta period, now it's pretty much final(I'm guessing?) and I've never had any problems with any other firmwares (I'm on JPK now)[then again I stayed on JPK the longest].
XDA search is down so I'm unable to search, and hence I'm sorry if this has been addressed already.
I hope the solution won't involving me reflashing. finally settled down and bam, **** happened.
Thanks.
edit1: solved.

The work around is: Using a root file explorer (I used AntTek Explorer), you'll need to rename/delete the existing Swype files in order to reinstall the newer working version. To do this, start your root-explorer and navigate to /system/app/Swype.apk, and rename it (I added .bak to the file name). Then do the same for /system/lib/libSwypecore.so
Now reboot your phone, then rerun the Swype Installer! Wallla!

Nexus S live Wallpapers

Does anyone have them and successfully installed them on the X?
I personally haven't tried them yet. Will let you know how they run on the X.
Check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872923
I read that after I posted this thread, but they do not work, atleast I haven't gotten them too on my DX.
I have it working on a gingerbread themed fission 2.3.1
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
What method did you use? The update.zip method or did you move the .apk file into the system? I tried the update.zip on my rooted X with the stock ROM and it did nothing.
Edit: I just moved the livewallpaper.apk file into system/app and it still didn't work. Maybe the Fission ROM adds something that lets it work?
Its only one live wallpaper. I manually moved it but don't forget to set permissions.
I used the update.zip file and it shows under live wallpapers as nexus.
Neither the update.zip or manually moving the apk installed this. Im on Apex 1.3 currently.
After you move the Nexus livewallpapers.apk to /system/app make sure to change it's permissions to User: R/W, Group: R, Others: R. After changing permissions, simply reboot and it'll automatically install.
By the way, make a backup of your original livewallpapers.apk (just rename it to livewallpapers.bak or something) before moving over the Nexus version.

The Nexus one is the only one I could get to install. I had to use Fission Rom Manager to load Microbe.
You need to make sure to mount your system before the install as others have said. It might be worth downloading the update.zip again to be certain the full file downloaded.
Just throwing out ideas.
And since it wasn't in the thread this is what microbe looks like. It's pretty cool. you tap to put those little white dots on the screen. the red blue green and yellow microbes swim around eating it getting bigger then budding off into more little guys. there's actually kind of a lot going on. I think that's why it runs a little slower.

[ZIP][TEMPLATE] Adaptive Junk Remover

My first smartphone was the Samsung Galaxy S2. And I was shocked how Samsung "destroys" their own device by adding - sorry for the harsh words - idiotic and useless apps.
Samsung is the main reason why many people (most apple users) are mocking Android.

Samsung is the worst manufacturer in adding useless apps. Who needs 23 hubs for social, fitness, books, games, blablabla and 3 app stores? And 2 music players?
Nobody, I guess... That's why I deleted the useless apps from /app and /priv-app after every update and that was awful.
Some weeks ago I made this flashable zip which allows me to delete all unnecessary (at least for me!!!) apps with one flash. I made it for personal use with my OPO and BlissPop. I don't need NFC or CellBroadcastReceiver. Never.
Every ROM is different. Every ROM has same apps in /system but also different ones. That's why I'm sharing a template for the flashable zip, not a ready-2-flash-zip.
Adaptive Junk Remover
1. download the provided zip file for KK / L
2. open it with WinRAR (the best program)
3. browse to \META-INF\com\google\android
4. open the file called updater-script with Notepad++ (also the best program)
5. a) you will see this (for a ROM based on Android 5.0.x // CM12), the delete_recursive tag is necessary because L stores apps in subfolders
b) you will see this (for a ROM based on Android 4.4.x // CM11)
6. you have to add the apps you want to remove, have a look inside your /app and /priv-app folder
7. a) enter the folder name (CM12): delete_recursive("/system/app/FOLDER-NAME"); or delete_recursive("/system/priv-app/FOLDER-NAME");
b) enter the app name (CM11): delete("/system/app/APP-NAME.apk"); or delete("/system/priv-app/APP-NAME.apk");
maybe you have also .odex files, delete them with delete("/system/app/APP-NAME.odex");
8. if you've finished save the file, WinRAR asks to update the zip-file, affirm that (!!!IMPORTANT!!!)
9. flash the zip in your custom recovery
!!!WITHOUT GUARANTEE!!!
delete only apps you know they're safe to remove (link, link, link, etc.)
be aware that some apps share their libs, etc.
if anything goes wrong, for example FCs, simply reflash (dirty) your ROM and delete the FC'ed app from the updater-script of the Junk Remover
if you have questions, feel free to ask
my updater-script for my OPO running BlissPop looks like this, using it after every update, no FC, no other issue
Code:
delete_recursive("/system/app/AntHalService");
delete_recursive("/system/app/BasicDreams");
delete_recursive("/system/app/CMWallpapers");
delete_recursive("/system/app/Eleven");
delete_recursive("/system/app/Email");
delete_recursive("/system/app/FaceLock");
delete_recursive("/system/app/Galaxy4");
delete_recursive("/system/app/HoloSpiralWallpaper");
delete_recursive("/system/app/HTMLViewer");
delete_recursive("/system/app/LiveWallpapers");
delete_recursive("/system/app/LiveWallpapersPicker");
delete_recursive("/system/app/MonthCalendarWidget");
delete_recursive("/system/app/NfcNci");
delete_recursive("/system/app/NoiseField");
delete_recursive("/system/app/OpenCamera");

delete_recursive("/system/tts");
delete_recursive("/system/app/PrintSpooler");
delete_recursive("/system/app/Stk");
delete_recursive("/system/app/Terminal");
delete_recursive("/system/app/VisualizationWallpapers");
delete_recursive("/system/app/WhisperPush");
delete_recursive("/system/priv-app/CellBroadcastReceiver");
delete_recursive("/system/priv-app/CMAccount");
delete_recursive("/system/priv-app/DeviceControl");
delete_recursive("/system/priv-app/Mms");
delete_recursive("/system/priv-app/MmsService");
delete_recursive("/system/priv-app/ScreenRecorder");
delete_recursive("/system/priv-app/Tag");
delete_recursive("/system/priv-app/Velvet");
delete_recursive("/system/priv-app/VoiceDialer");
Nice. Thanks for sharing. You did a great job explaining how to go about this and the script/zip works great. Thanks for taking the time.
