Here's a bit of fun to try......
My Brother using has SGSII got a photo of Napoleon Bonaparte from the Internet.
We then went to my Note and selected to set up Screen Unlock/Face Unlock and showed the Note my Brother's phone screen.
BING.... the Note accepted it and as such I finished off the Face Unlock setup using a Password just in case the Note would not unlock.
With that done I then switched off the Note's screen then turned it back on again..... Immediately it went to the Face Unlock so we showed the Note once again my Brothers phone screen of Napoleon Bonaparte.
BY CRIKEY...... IT ACTUALLY WORKED!!!
We even tried drawing a funny face and it too worked straight away.
So, would anyone else like to try using a different face?
Don't forget to use a Password as well... just in case the Face Unlock does not accept the picture.

Sounds funny

Pretty cool, have not update my note but will try this out on my brother's S2 with Michael Jackson's face..... EPIC

so it works as advertised - it did recognize it was a face, not a tree or car - doesn't it?
PS. Thanks for great thread title

You can't really call mj's face a face can you? Surely that's false advertising or something?

That's the whole issue with it right now, I heard somewhere they are looking to implement a feature that looks for blinking for greater security, as photographs unfortunately, do just fine for using face-to-unlock.

Actually that did not work.
Whilst we were having fun with different pictures one thing that we did notice is if you set up the Face Unlock using an 'actual' face then take a snap of that same face expression you can't use the saved 'mug-shot' to unlock the Face recognition.
This was proved by again using my Brothers SGSII. After I had set the Face Unlock program he then took a shot of my face then when I turned on the Note's screen it asked for my Face. My Brother held his phone close to mine showing the photo of me he had just taken and no matter how many times we tried it simply would not accept the photo.
However, if we used that same photo in the Face Unlock set-up it worked each time.
Weird..... yes. Fun..... Oh yes.
Okay Guys.... back to you. Anyone managed to get either Miss Piggy or Kermit the Frog to open their Note's?

This does work - tried it with my brother-in-law. He'd set up his phone (GSII) with face unlock, and I'd unlocked it with a separate picture I'd taken of him on my Note.
Went a step further to see if ICS could distinguish between Asian faces by asking my brother to try unlocking my device. I'm happy to report that ICS does not think all Asians look alike and therefore is not racist .

Yeah, i remember when ICS was released and Gizmodo or Engadget tried to unlock it with a photo, and it worked. Face Unlock is not a real security feature since it's really easy to bypass, but i guess they'll iron out these things. I don't always use LS security, but when i do i use a PIN.
Edit: OK, that last part wasn't planned at all I just had to make this now.

Good thing Samsung doesn't make the phones racist. I feel like the face recognition technology is still to young as you can fake it with a picture. It probably will take a few years before they can make it legit and efficient like we see in movies. First they need to fix the self camera, not to start a fan war but honestly the self camera on my iPod 4g is much better than the one on my phone, not sure if its just my phone which came with a faulty self cam lens but when I use it the image is just very dim and makes for a bad picture. My iPod in the other hand isn't high tech but has a much better self can.
Anyways improve the self can with tech that can distinguish between real and pictures and software that can recognize facial features deeply as then even twins can't mess with unlocking the other's phone (my silly friends who are twins tried it and it unlocks with the other's face). This way way out in the future but cams that can even do face unlock in pitch dark. Also I feel like face unlock needs to speed up as the speed isn't practical, I know it looks super cool in movies ex special ones that scans the eyes but isn't practical in times of emergency. You need to whip your phone out to take a video of dude having his face chewed off (for evidence of course), or take a picture really quick of a UFO, call 911 because of an accident, you wouldn't want to be standing there finding the right angle while the poor dude is bleeding or the UFO gone. Or just something simple, your jogging and you wanna unlock the phone to change track, your gonna need to stop, probably whip the sweat off and try and unlock it.
I am aware that there is a password feature but what's the point of using the face unlock when you just result to keying in a code. In my point of view, not hating on face unlock but no matter what security you use there is some kinda hook to it, passwords and patterns can be seen while keying in, face unlock can be fooled by twins or a picture of the face to unlock and isn't fast enough. Things like finger scanner. While your asleep someone could use your finger and unlock your phone if your a heavy sleeper and voice recognition can be fooled by audio recording of you or by pro mimic people, also voice recognition can't be used in loud places.
Don't know if there is other form of security, the recent windows 8 unlock where you select 3 parts of a picture to unlock can also be seen by someone else like patterns and passwords and isn't fast enough like face unlock. In my opinion though all security has a catch to it for mobile and tablets and laptops the best is finger print scanner, sure your at risk of your device being unlocked while your asleep but the chances of that is pretty low unless you are high on the drug that doctors give you to make pain numb. Also its the fastest unlock (based of device specs) compared to anything. And for maybe desktops use face unlock as desktops are in only one place and used in bright light condition mostly but if not, its a desktop how hard is it to build flash onto the front next to the cam.
I don't know that's jusy my opinion, sorry for the crazy long post, not trying to change the topic of face unlock but just gave you guys something to think about. NOW DISCUSS!

How to get face unlock working?!?!?!
Just bought a note, did the FOTA update when I turned it on, and now have official ICS. Great except where the heck is face unlock? all i have is some rubbish lock screen?!?!
I would like face unlock, how do I activate it?
Also, how do I get a useful unlock screen which lets you unlock straight to an app like camera or gmail etc as I've seen some have?
Ta!

Bye Bye Vibrant =(

So today I returned my Vibrant and removed my Nexus One from Ebay. It's sad that such a beautiful phone had to be returned but I couldn't cope with some major issues:
1) GPS (I dont care if there is a fix, it SHOULD work out of the box)
2) Laggy Market
3) Laggy Homescreen
4) Tethering issues (Using barnacle and IPad)
I will miss the screen... it was amazing... along with some of the features of touchwiz. However, the fact that TMobile confirmed that they will be launching an HSPA+ phone this summer makes me feel that much better about waiting to upgrade.
Let me get out my violin.

Feel better? Goodness it's like at least 5 people have to start this type of thread on every board I visit for any type of device. I can't wait for the usual people to come in and make this a 10 page thread
And when the TMO releases the new HSPA+ phone it will have a plethora of issues on its own, good luck
Just trying to save people the trouble from upgrading from their Nexus if they have one. Thanks for the violin though! ;p
I really don't set the point of these types of posts, so you are unhappy and experience issues that not everyone is. Does that mean I should annoyingly post about how great mine is working? My HD2 gave me problems everyday but I didn't post about it. My slide worked perfectly but I didn't post about it. Again gps is not everyone, I have tried the following apps:
Yelp
Yellow book
Find me
Places directory
Maps
Where
Layers
And google
ALL were able to find my location (locked)
Everything else hasn't happened to my phone yet
So really what is the point in posting that you are returning the phone, because I'm sure you have already posted the problems.

Oh man you should have seen the Evo 4G forums then. This is nothing compared to that.
If i'd've had a N1, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have a Vibrant now. N1 to Vibrant is probably not that big an improvement, but G1 (even rooted) to Vibrant is HUGE!
Sorry you didn't like your Vibrant!
I personally have had none of those issues, in fact, I have had not one force close or restart, the phone has been on and running without a single hitch since the day it was released and I picked it up at the T-mobile store.
This has been the best out of box experience I have ever had with a phone, especially one that was just released.

I agree on both accounts. When we get 2.2 OTA or mod it will prove to be the best phone available.
Your patience (or lack thereof) got the best of you.phone had only been out a week. Name me one device that was perfect upon release? Take care and cya, I'll enjoy the vibrant for you =)

1. will work after OTA
2. Did you root? Haven't heard of significant issues pre-root
2. thats because it's filled with bulky widgets. Remove a few. I'm running 5 widgets (2 of the samsung ones) and a live wallpaper with no lag (did no lag fixes or anything)
4. Barnacle doesn't work without root. Doesn't work consistently with root because the phone just came out and they haven't added support for it yet. New hardware for a currently unsupported root feature. Hopefully it'll be included in 2.2, but if not, the tether programs should be updated soon.
I think you should have waited before getting the phone in the first place. Nothing come out perfect.
I also purchased the Vibrant to use as a wireless hotspot with my iPad. I am going to give it time. I probably wouldn't have upgraded from an N1 though.
I turned on the phone and I'm not kidding I went straight to ever screen and removed every widget and turned off all but one screen. I mean I really don't need 7 screens when I use the same few apps all the time.
I think the only issue's I've noticed is.
- Camera FC on me once.
- Antenna boucing all over the place signal wise. Full Bars, half bars, no bars. Who knows, but it still works.
I think the only rock solid phone I've ever purchased and it just worked was my old Side Kick. It wasn't fancy or flashy and of course doesn't do half the stuff that these newer phones do.
For me:
Notifications keep phone awake
I get FC when I try to add picture to contact
Slow market (rooted)
Antenna bars jump left and right, but it doesnt seem to effect the signal....
It's a genuine concern. Stop getting so defensive that people are having issues. Not everyone can afford to drop $500+ every two months on the latest and greatest. A new smartphone is an investment, and if it doesn't work as advertised, that's not the fault of the consumer. Also, keep in mind, 14 days is not a lot of time. We don't even know for sure if this is something that Samsung can or will fix.
Some of you are willing to accept that risk, and trust that a fix is coming. That's fine. Some of us are not as bold when it comes to such investments.
So, yes, we may get an announcement, by the 15th day, that everything is going to be fixed and we won't have to worry. But what if that announcement never shows up? What if they just shrug their shoulders and say, "Eh, good enough"?
Well, like I said, $500+ is a lot of money to gamble when it comes to the good faith of a corporation. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit nervous about them supporting this device properly.
I love my Vibrant, save for these reception issues with the various radios. I live in one of the best coverage spots in my city, and I've been having calls go straight to voicemail all week; my GPS takes 5 minutes to even lock, and when it does, the radius is 2-4 blocks wide; the compass does not work at all, and the phone will assume I'm driving and moving when I'm stationary because of these problems. As of today, it does not appear as if either company is acknowledging the issue. That said, if a statement isn't released soon, I'll be returning it to sit on the sidelines until a fix is announced -- as much as I'd miss the display.

How Much Better Will The Note Be With ICS

Now that Samsung have officially confirmed that the Note will be one of the first to get the ICS update, what improvements will it make? Will it be worth while doing it for Note works very well on Gingerbread.
The most important for me, except other nice features, is that ics will optimized full the 2 cores of Note and improved more battery life.

the most SICK news it's "hardware acceleration"
we got much mote better GPU than Samsung Galaxy Nexus !
So our phone will ROCK !
i know they said ICS in Q1 but have they released a tentative date?. .
any ideas? .or patterns with samsung?
I hope they take their time releasing ICS. The fewer the bugs, the better for us

I was talking to a Samsung rep on phone today and when i asked him about ICS, he said "Its already on ICS". So my next question was: "are you sure? cause i am on 2.3.6". He said "yeah what i meant was, since our nexus has it, it won't be long before the note gets it. No official dates as to when it comes" So, either a) he had no idea what he was talking about, or b) ICS is being tested on the note as we speak
what im waiting for is AOSP ICS rom or CM9 would do. The reason is FULL tablet interface, experience.
I'm wondering how much faster the camera will be. Romain Guy said that the zero shutter lag on the galaxy nexus is a combination of software+hardware optimisations, so it will be interesting to find out what kind of improvement we will get. At the moment it feels like there is 1 second between each of 1) Pressing the camera button, 2) The shutter noise and 3) actual photo taken. It's a bizarre experience.
It's gonna be LEGEND......

The main reason they used a 5MP instead of an 8MP camera in the Galaxy Nexus was speed. Fewer pixels to process, fewer pixels to write to storage. Don't expect that kind of speed on the Note, or a GS2, etc when they get the ICS camera app.
To be honest, if you use the technique and aren't using the flash where you prepare the camera by pressing the shutter button first and then release when you want to take the picture then there is virtually no meaningful lag.
You definitely have a different note than me. The lag ducks. Do like the camera tho.

Im hoping that ICS might correct my offset screen (s-pen, finger input) and somehow get rid of the pinkish huein the middle of the pictures i take.
If Dolohin HD crashed less that would be great.
Other than that, everything else would be gravy. I love my Note and I am now done with iphones. My son still has a 4gS but I cant even stand to look at it!
However, Im not one of those people who judge others. If you love iphones, more power to ya!

I got sick of my pen making random selections and acting erratic. I had a fit lol amd ripped the button off the side of the pen. Problem solved. Its still offset and i despise that bur at least when i pass the pen over the screen it doesnt select something from and inch away from the screen. I will buy a new pen with no button function. Thr only thing i ever used the button for was screen caputure but i can do that easily with hone button + sleep button.
I notice that on some web pages when i want to click a link, i have to compensate by pressing higher that the hyper link with my finger or pen.
Samsung wants to have an s-pen smartphone... GET IT RIGHT. As far as finger touch goes, there is no excuse for having to press 2mm higher than the hyperlink. Thats a lack of screen calibration which i find ignorant.
Now if i could stop all of my browsers from closing abruptly i would be less angry about the screen calibration. My iphone browser has never closed on me, not on any of them.
Still love my phone though. However, i seem to be refering to it as the galaxy n7000 because between tje pen and the unforgivable lack of screen calibration, "Note" seems a like a title that it has yet to earn.
Strange, I have no spen inaccuracy problem.
However I would like to see:
1-Better camera picture quality, the sharpness in the taken pics really sucks.
2-faster,this is a must be addressed issue, the wakeup lag from the homebutton, the lag while opening applications specially the Contacts is just unforgivable for hardware with such specs.
3-I have no such issue in the Opera browser since its not hardware accelerated, but both Dolphin and stock browsers which support that feature crush a lot and suffer from battery drainage. This of course could be because gingerbread doesn't support that feature either.
Other than these three very important issues all is well on my front.!!

Correct. Whilst it's not perfect the wake up lag is poor. Sometimes when opening sms messages or contacts/phonebook it takes upto 4 seconds which is unnacceptable!!!
It should be instantaneous...

I read the page but it didn't say anything about push email which is really important to me, i use yahoo mail as a default mail and i use the ymail app, not that there is anything wrong with it but i prefer the default email app as sometimes when you want to "share" something there is the message, Bluetooth, email and stuff but sometimes it doesn't have the share through yahoo mail app, plus the yahoo mail takes forever to 'attach' pictures and send.
I just wanted to know if you guys know anything about the push email on the default email app, i know the gmail app has it but im not switching to gmail
Another thing i would like to know is this:
Huge fan of reading ebooks, and note has a sexy screen perfect for reading books, and i love the ui the books are displayed above, can any one clarify if that is only for tablets, or is an app on the android market (checked the market and nothing) or will only be available on ics when it comes out
Also will the 'US' version of android market be available outside US on ics or we still got to root and then use market enabler?
Hope ICS comes out soon with as little bugs and and plenty of improvements possible!!

Slide to zoom in Gmail?

I had a feature on my S 3 that I have no idea whether it was standard or how it was activated. I have tried the same on my friends Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus and it does not work so I thought it was a Samsung add-in. But now it also does not work on the S 4.
On my S 3 if I am viewing an email in the gmail app and I slide my thumb on the right most part of the screen up and down it will zoom in and out instead of scrolling. I don't know how this worked on the S 3 but I was unable to figure how to get it to work on the S 4. I can't remember if it worked in other applications, like browser or exchange email but definitely worked in Gmail.
On my S3 I have to set go to Gmail, Menu Button, SETTING, General Settings, Auto-Fit Messages. Then it works with zooming In/Out. Hope this helps as I am sure it should work the same since it is Gmail and not a Samsung App.

Thanks guys. This is what I was afraid of. Apparently this must be something that only works on the S3. As I mentioned, I have tried it on the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, and now my S4 and even with the Auto-fit message option checked it will not zoom in and out no matter how much I try. Two finger pinch and zoom works fine. I wonder if there is something in the S3 that enables this. Maybe an accessibility feature?
You might have had some custom ROM with a custom Gmail app. I just realized you were asking for side slide to zoom. That's actually a TW feature as far as I know because only Samsung apps offer this.

I don't believe so. I used the method here which is a stock image with root built it. Never did anything else custom to it. I still have the S 3 and it truly works that way. I tried to mimic the settings on the S4 but no luck. If anyone here still has an S3 I'm wondering if they can check. If you slide your finger along the edge of the screen where the scroll bar appears usually, it should zoom in and out.

I tried to mimic the settings on the S4 but no luck. If anyone here still has an S3 I'm wondering if they can check. If you slide your finger along the edge of the screen where the scroll bar appears usually, it should zoom in and out.

I also still have an S3, but mine does not do this. That's really odd. I remember there being a setting somewhere in Motion I think. I don't really remember I'll have to take a look at it some more today after work.

I will try to make a video of it. I will also try and go through every menu in the S 3. I looked in gesture controls and didn't find anything. Maybe it's an older version of Gmail. Perhaps I should uninstall updates and try?

On my S3 I have to set go to Gmail, Menu Button, SETTING, General Settings, Auto-Fit Messages. Then it works with zooming In/Out. Hope this helps as I am sure it should work the same since it is Gmail and not a Samsung App.

Quoted myself above but for me I had to enable the Auto-Fit and then and only then did the slide to zoom work. This is a Stock Gmail from the play store I missed for colors. Not sure how the pics will turn out while I am sliding to zoom in/out but it is working on my SGS3. again maybe it is something removed from Samsung's Android 4.2.2 but in 4.1.1 it works fine.

Thank you for confirming this on S3. I completely forgot that I had factory reset my S3 so I couldn't get the video. It would be nice if someone could figure out the trigger for this. Is it something touch wiz adds, is it a functionality in a particular version of gmail, or is it some setting that we are not finding?
It was a Feature o the S3, Note and Tab 10 that Samsung removed

The Edge Slide Zoom feature, as some call it, was actually a feature that Samsung "quietly" put on then took off, partially. (so quietly, I have yet to find a name for it anywhere on Samsung's website, in documentation, and if you contact Samsung Tech Support, either via Chat or at the "Dedicated Galaxy Support Phone Number" you will find they don't even know about it. In fact, I once got into a heated dispute with a "Dedicated Galaxy Support ""TECH"" " because he insisted I had loaded 3rd party software and they could not support me on it. I had to escalate to a supervisor, who confirmed the underling's claim until I firmly asked him to go get a S3 and I'd prove to him it was not 3rd party.)
It was on the S3, Note II, and Note 10.1 Tablet. Sprint removed it from the S3 with the February OTA release of MA6, which I refused until I got so fed up with Sprint, that I switched to AT&T. Much to my chagrin, the AT&T current release still has it. I bought 2 S3s, but got an S4 for myself. Unfortunately the S4 doesn't have it, so I'm hoping someone on here will develop it, like the user below references, except on the S3. Sprint removed it from the Note II in the last update. I don't know about other carriers, and I don't know about the Tablet. I'll be at the AT&T store later this week and will check, and report my findings.
I found it to be so useful myself, it was what pushed me over the edge to renew a 2 Year Phone Cost Subsidy agreement with Sprint, replacing a "Rooted" SII that finally was working, after I got so fed up with Samsung dragging its feet on releasing their last update.
Here are links to others who discuss it, and the only link I've found where Samsung even acknowledges it exists.

Here is the Note reference to it, which is at best obscure, if not about the worst possible description of the feature I could imagine. It would appear the writer never took the time to try it, so to be able to describe it more accurately, something like "Touch then Slide any finger along the edges of the screen (whether in Landscape or portrait, left edge (for "lefties") or right edge) then Slide Up to zoom in, slide down to zoom out.)
Instead, here is their description, in section Enhanced User Experience:
"Internet: Slide your thumb from the left or right edge to zoom in and out"
Pitiful, don't you think? No wonder people didn't even know it existed. In fact, I at first thought it was a bug, until I tried "reproducing it" to be able to report it, and then found it was entirely reproducible, so reproducible as to be something I trained myself on in about 5 minutes, and loved it ever since.
The big reason, ONE HANDED PHONE USE, ONE FINGER FULLY USER CONTROLLABLE ZOOM LEVEL.
It is far superior to "pinch to zoom" which requires Two hands, to hold the phone in one and pinch with the other, and two fingers. IT was and is INGENIOUS.
My guess!! Samsung had to come up with something to counter Apple's lawsuit for "pinch to zoom" and did, and it was awesome. WHen they lost the suit, but the penalty was "pocket change" for a company of their magnitude, they dumped it. Like adding a physical Home button to a touch screen, they seem to have this whacky nervousness about being too different from Apple. THe Home button is an absurd idea. I fumble the phone every time I have to press it. Not to mention the fact, I know with every press I am imposing salt from my sweaty thumb into a switch, (salt -> metal = corrosion DUH!!!!) which is by far the dumbest idea even Apple could have had. I digress.

Just to be clear I am speaking about the zoom option
I have search all over for this fix. I am a T Mobile user and most all the new Roms have the option to "disable" the zoom feature but the edge zoom never worked in the first place on any ROM I found.
I was so desperate for a fix, I gave this a chance anyway KNOWING that I may brick my t999 S3 and have to pay another 35 to Jtag it again. (Yes I did it once). No Brick, IT WORKS!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for finding this and explaining it. It works on my T999 S3. Not sure about your sprint phones but Im a very happy camper. Did I say thanks you?
Thanks.

[Discussion] The LG G5 discussion thread

Hello LG G5 users , feel free to talk here about anything related to the LG G5 :good:
Thread Rules
1. Respect the others
2. This is an LG G5 thread , do not talk about any other LG phone here.
3. Use appropriate langage.
4. And of course , respect xda rules.
So what do you think about this LG phone ?
Hi guys , thread opened thanks to @KennyG123 , now that the G5 is out and available for sale feel free to share your experience in this discussion thread.
I will update it later with infos , reviews , battery tests..etc.
Enjoy
This is my first impression of the G5 and I'm sure once the stock and custom roms start rolling out I will have a much better experience with my phone. I picked up my new LG G5 a hour ago from my local Sprint retailer and I have already run into a few problems that kind of bother me about the phone. I switched from my Nexus 6 to this phone and I would have to say I do enjoy the feel of the phone and the fact of it being smaller and easier to hold. This is the only good thing I have really noticed about the phone so far though. The volume rocker on the left side of the phone seems very strange and would be much more ergonomic with it remaining on the back or on the right side to be easily accessible with the thumb. The G5 does not have an app drawer with the current software even though there were leaks saying that they were actually going to end up adding the app drawer for this phone. The software seems as if it went for a more Apple style design with a more vivid color scheme. I ended up looking through some of the apps and there are advertisements in the voicemail app which just seems wrong. I have already ran into a bug which should be expected with any new release of a phone of course and this bug happens when I double tap on a notification on the lock screen it locks the screen instead of opening the application which I really hope wasn't the intended purpose. So far the phone isn't as great as I expected it to be.
@CorruptProfile Thank you very much sir for this first well detailed feedback.
How about other things like the camera , performance ( if you tried any intensive game ) ? Is it buttery smooth or LG 5.0 UX suffer from lags ?

Nope, there is a third option shown in the UX 5.0 video and confirmed by T-Mobile users
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk8Zs3Mlbcs
Look at 2:19
I only really play Clash of Clans as far as game intensive on my phone and it ran very smoothly for the little bit that I was on it. The camera is far superior to any phone I have had in the past and the quality is great. The option for the regular launcher with an app drawer does not exist on my device which is no problem since I do not like the launcher in general and the Google Now Launcher is far superior to LG's. The biggest problem I have started to see with the device now is the fact the battery is weak as can be. I'm not sure if there isn't enough data collected yet to give an accurate estimate on how long the battery will last. I took the first screenshot of the battery usage before I used any high usage applications and it already was showing that my phone would last an hour and 47 minutes when it was at 41%. I would add screenshots to this but, I don't have over 10 posts yet so that isn't possible so I sent them to @Soufiansky so he can post them instead.

What about the module thing ? I saw a lot of issues about it these days
Sent from my GT-P5100 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I don't own a module and I don't really see the purpose of owning one to be completely honest. It's basically just buying add-ons if you prefer having them or not. I enjoy having the naked look of a sleek looking phone without having a bunch of stuff all over it. It really comes down to the person if they want the parts or not and personally I don't the parts won't make the phone any worse and if the modules really just fail then it won't have any overall effect on the performance of the phone itself.

I think I have to return my S7 Edge...

I took the jump to Android from Windows Phone and I really liked the S7 Edge form factor and looks however it is just too buggy and has hardware problems so I think I might have to try an iPhone (scary). Here are my list of problems with the S7 Edge:
SD card problems - known issue HW rev problems - nag screen as well as lost apps installed on the SD card
Random reboots - many a day
Thumbprint recognition - seems like it takes me 3-4 thumbprints every time - why?
English Language Pack storage bug - eats all my space - it keeps coming back even if disabled - 2nd time ran out of space on the phone - 16-18GB footprint for this - why? what does this app do?
WIPES MY PHONES - this has happened TWICE - this is the deal breaker - I even turned on 'avoid turning on while in pocket' - doesn't matter when i go for hikes or ski in the cold maybe - it WIPES MY ENTIRE PHONE - not good
bugs with texting and message+ - seem like the phone freezes when texting - can't finish typing - message+ crashes - this is major pain
Lots of apps crashing randomly - not sure why
I really want to make this phone work but the WIPING of the DEVICE twice for me means full day of lost productivity for my traveling job. I can't be rebuilding my phone every few weeks. Is this acceptable for Samsung's flagship phone? I am open and patient to technology and not biased one way or the other (I do miss some features on my Windows Phone).
I think if You are having that many issues with your S7 Edge then you Should return it! Just because this is an Android forum doesn't have to mean going to an iPhone is scary. I live in both the Android and iPhone world and it's a-ok! Now a non-jailbroken iPhone can be much more limiting than a stock Android device but it is still a nice phone and works well out of the box. Maybe you should just return your phone as a defective one or look at the apps your are installing to see if one or two or more are causing the conflicts and issues and reboots. I haven't experienced the problems that you have except reboots after installing the latest version of iHeart Radio (now using an older version and absol6no problems) and the Good Lock app from Samsung was rebooting my phone so I Uninstalled it right away.
My S7 Edge has to be one of the coolest and most beautiful phones I have ever owned. Out of the box it is very, very customizable and even without rooting still offers so many possibilities that I could never do with my iPhone straight out of the box. There are alternatives to try out for the apps that you are currently using and where you might end up liking even more than your current favorites (I suggest trying Yaata text messaging app. Works very well! There's a discussion thread here on XDA-DEVELOPERS too). Good luck with your decision.

This really seems like a bad piece you should replace, and you will be probably fine. I havent encountered any problems aside of one SD card dying unexpectedly (probably faulty SD tho), and the poor palm rejection when typipng with one hand/upside down (this has however been largely fixed by the latest update). Otherwise, no problems at all.

Thanks burrzoo. This is my first Android so maybe I had high expectations or maybe I just got a bad one. I am patient and understand bugs, random oddities since I have only owned Windows Phones up until this point if that tells you about device/HW patience, hacked many ROMs here, etc. so I like the extensibility of the Android platform as a replacement but I guess the Verizon S7 is locked so no custom ROMs? I will say however none of those Windows phones every wiped my phone like the S7 did twice.
As far as installed apps I have really basic apps - Office, Outlook, social apps. Nothing special really. The English Language Pack is an Android installed app that comes with the S7 so there is no way to remove it apparently. I did disable a lot of the default Google, Samsung and Android apps since i don't use them. Maybe i have to leave it more stock to avoid problems? I dunno - if you guys can help me explain the WIPING of my device or HOW to prevent this that would go a long way.

Jomari,
No, I have only owned Windows Phones. I am open to either platform as a replacement. I have never owned an iPhone either but if this is the first class android experience then I would say it hasn't been so great.
I did not experienced all those problems you mentioned, my S7E is buttery smooth.
Strange, I'm having none of these issues. I would suggest you might have a faulty model.
I'd say you have a defective device.
Mine has no issues at all so far.

okay, thanks everyone. Looks like I am past the 14 days return policy and Samsung warranty won't swap hardware. Any thoughts on what I can do to get a new device? Samsung offered for me to send in the device and they can evaluate it and replace faulty HW - should i do that?
I did find two things in my searches for some of my issues:
1) There is an 'Auto-Factory Reset' device option set to ON on the S7 Edge under 'Lock Screen and security' > 'Secure lock settings' > 'Auto-factory reset' on/off toggle. I think this may be the main problem on the device I am trying to solve. On my Verizon device the checkbox is greyed out. Can you guys disable auto-wipe on your devices? The question becomes how is it auto-factory reset in my pocket when i have 'detect device in pocket' and i have locked screen. Is it flipping on somehow with movement? Why would they not have a 'are you sure you want to factory/reset?' if this is accidental?
2) On a fun note - I think I found an Android easter egg or maybe not? on 6.0.1 when I was trying to enable dev unlock (not sure if it is documented) - you can play an Android Flappy bird game:
Go to Settings > About Phone > Android Version 6.0.1 and then click it about 5 times in succession rapidly - it unlocks an Android Flappy Bird mini-game - LOL
I can confirm that on AT&T variant you can toggle the Auto-Factory Reset.

I am open and patient to technology and not biased one way or the other (I do miss some features on my Windows Phone).

just send in for a repair and you will be good to go
i suggest you are trolling
you are talking about S7e right ?!
Sounds like a very defected device.
Your really the first i heard tht has had these problems.
My fingerprint works great.
This is problem the only phone i have had tht doesnt turn on in my pocket.
Also dont know why your phone i wiping itself.
Never had that happen with any phone.
There is an option for wiping the phone if the lock screen password is wrong 5 times in a roll.
I onlynuse the default messging app but never had a problem with slow typing.
16gb for language is very off.
The whole system setup is only around 9gb.
So if you think andriod is crap then move on.
If you wanna try ios then do so.
But i can say that it sounds like your phone is broken

Man, people get so sensitive about their platforms. Yes, I am talking about the new Samsung S7 Edge on Verizon yes. How am I trolling exactly? These are honest problems I am having - is it not possible to have problems with a new device? I guess folks figure if I point out problems than I am trolling. Not sure how I have to prove this are legit.
On a positive note, I think I did find some root causes on my own recently like the 'Auto-factory reset' setting which is why my device is wiping itself however I can't disable it on Verizon for some reason.
Not sure about the other problems - running out of space, etc. so I am welcome to feedback.

the numbers of problems u mentioned never faced alltogether in a single android phone for years.. not to mention the that the S7e is one the greatest phones i ever had except for rebooting which was fixed with software update.
Answers:
reset your phone , and keep up with us step by step
finger print scanner use different angles for ur finger and keep the home button clean.
u can use 2 fingerprints options for a single finger

I would be tempted to say this is a combination of OS confusion and faulty unit. Some of what you say has been experienced by others in the S7 Edge forums and some of what you said sounds a little like "it didn't do this on my Windows device". I'm not bashing you at all, I'm just saying that it may be something you come to understand with time.
I remember moving from Apple to Android many years back (I moved to the first original Galaxy S device). I felt like I'd made the biggest mistake of my life! I just didn't "get" it. Things that where simple on the iPhone suddenly had 2 or 3 different ways to complete the task on Android.
I would suggest firstly discussing the issues with Samsung or your provider and see if they are actual issues, or user confusion, then once confirmed, I guess you have a decision... stick with it and see how deep the rabbit hole goes, or return the device and decide Android isn't for you.

okay thanks for the fingerprint tips Ashoudy. I think I will send it back to Samsung and hopefully they send me a new device. Don't get me wrong - I really like the S7 and think it is well ahead of iPhone innovation wise. I got it pre-launch so maybe I just got a bad early device.
Some of these problems may not be hw related in my opinion: Factory resets, storage space problem but hopefully a newer device will fix these.
LOL at people in here saying "well mine's working fine", alright, and your point is what exactly?
It's pretty obvious that OP here has a lemon, and it should be returned. This isn't anything new though, and every manufacturer on the planet will have some of these in circulation for the first month or two. That's the price we pay for being early adopters. If you don't want to get a device with any surprises next time, I recommend you to wait for like 3 months before buying a device. Apple also had some issues with the iPhone 6 and 6S, like expected. Same with Sony, LG, HTC and Samsung. It's always a pain in the butt when it happens to you, but it's pretty much a gamble when you get a brand new device this early.
I have personally zero issues with my gold Edge (built on March 15), so this just shows how bad it can get for unlucky people like OP.
