galaxy note or one x?
thanks
My brother has the one x and I have the note, he hates the one x and is now selling it and is getting a note. Battery on the one x is crap.
please put your opinions about these phones here
thanks
A colleague in work has the one x its awful its long and thin the screen doesnt look right also the battery is amazingly bad and you cant replace it. . Also one big question if thr phone crashes u cant pull the battery and there is no reset button so what do u do?
Id stay well away from tge one series or ull regret it

One X is a very nice phone, if I did not have the Note I would absolutely buy it (cause am a Sense fan )
To the previous poster, if your phone crash you can always long-press on the power button to reboot or use the button combo to enter recovery, that is not a big issue IMHO
I have both when I'm on the onex I miss the big screen and the stylus and when I'm on the note I miss the gorgeous screen and fast shutter camera. And no the battery on the no is not bad it's more or less the same as the not except you can't replace it.

Well we are all bias here but even if you post this question in Htc one x forum, i am sure they would pick Note.

So does that mean every time the phone crashes u have to wipe it or is there a reboot option. .. Ill let the owner know

Note is perfect phone i must admit i do like sense shame u cant have sense on note and that would be a perfect choice

The Note is just a total different story than most smartphones. I can never hold my SGS or the SGSII after using the note for only 5 days. It's a totally different experience than casual/usual available smartphones. It's a ' Note ' indeed. And I pretty much rather it over any phone at the moment, and If I ever consider an update it'd be the Note II.

It depends on the reason of the crash..
If it's just the phone hanging up, long-pressing the power button will just force restart without any wiping
If it's experimenting with ROMs and so, you can do the recovery button combo and force a reboot to recovery and do what you like; wipe cache, dalvik, or wipe data/factory reset or even flash another ROM.. Depends on the situation
The note is unique. It's a real hybrid device. It's not comparable.
The *only* thing that really lets it down for media is the stupid black clipping
Take Big Note

Galaxy S3 is a more appropriate alternative to One X. Note is a different breed altogether.
Don't know about X since i haven't use it but definately the Note plays on its own

you are right guess they are samsung fan boys
htc one x is better than all samsung mobiles in material made of, official support and roms available here at the foroum
galaxy note at the other hand is a unique one of its kind cause of the size of the screen, s-pen and other specifications
If possible, use the note for a couple of days, the only phone you would want after getting the note would be Note II. Hope you get the point.

Hi guys
I'm a recent convert from an iPhone so please be gentle! If my phone goes into power saving mode, it reduces the screen brightness, reduces the screen timeout etc. but when I plug it back in and charge it, even though its back up to 100% the power save settings are still in place, and I have to manually put the settings back.
Its this right? I would have thought it would automatically remove the power save settings once the battery goes above 30%?
Thanks!
Robsa

You need to configure "Custom Power Saving Mode" and specify the battery level you want it to be triggered at. It should turn off automatically then after your phone is charged beyond this point - but this feature is a bit bugged so it might not work as intended.
Yeah I too have to manually turn it off, But there is a toggle in the status bar, So its just 1 tap away
Thanks guys.I am still getting used to a phone that crashes and doesn't work as intended sometimes! I do love I it though!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
Massive pro tip: Use something like Llama (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kebab.Llama&hl=en) and configure your own "power saving mode" instead. It's just a matter of making rules like "if battery is < 30%, disable wifi" and the like.
The built-in one is a bit crap to start with, and kind of broken anyway.

That's thanks to Samsung's bloatware. Consider AOSP Android like CM9, only then will you see how fast, smooth and relatively error-free Android really is.

^^^On that note ^^^
If you do try those ROMs, as good as they are, you'll loose the pen support. If you don't use it or s-memo etc... Then go for it.

Hey everyone, I've always been a fan of HTC and sense UI but few days ago I got the Note III to try Samsung for the first time.
Its been a great experience so far but touchwiz seems to be laggy at times especially when performing the simplest of tasks. Opening contacts is sometimes disgusting on the Note III. It takes a few seconds to open and for a phone packed with the S800 clocked at 2.3Ghz, 3GB of RAM its quite disappointing.
I posted this just to see if I'm the only one experiencing this if not I hope I can get a solution plus I've already downloaded the 27MB stabilisation update.
Thanks in advance.

Hey there... I've never had a HTC phone so I can't comment on their sense launcher but yes Touchwiz isn't all that great in some areas.
Like you said the contacts can take a couple of seconds to come up, does speed up if you've opened it recently but that's beside the point. The hardware on the Note 3 is blistering fast and Samsung should really hold up on their feature list and work on their launcher more.
It's funny with new Samsung phones you hear so many people say the thing they did was install another launcher. Listen up Samsung.

hi ,
al i can say i had many htc device's ( htc desire hd, htc one x and a few others )
i then( for various reasons ...eg ,mainly battery life ..heat ,bad customer service etc ) switched to note 2 and now note 3.(Very happy overall ).
first of all ,i never use Touchwiz ,been using Nova premuin all along and very happy with Nova.!...
I do not have any noticeable lag, on my n9005 ( as you summed it up .." S800 clocked at 2.3Ghz, 3GB of RAM " and I say its just the opposite of " disappointing. " )
My contacts etc opens fast, smooth .. ,No problems .
battery i get, + - 3 % drain overnight re 10//12 hours etc .etc
i am still on original stock ,not rooted and have done no updates, and i am enjoying my Spen features !!!!
i feel i have " tweaked " my phone just right !
So my advice is not hoping on some update ,but start looking at ways in how you can identify lag etc .(reading, searching, worked for me )
I will give you one tweak ,that worked for me( previous note 2 and 3 ) ..pressing home button normally resulted in a slight lag .,
I disabled Svoice( i dont use it ) my lag on phone home button is no more !
good luck

Hey thanks man, this fixed the lag I'v been getting with my Note 3 all I did was go into S-Voice and unchecked the "Open via home key" box.
This fixed the lag when pushing the home key, and also the lag when turning on the phone screen via power button or home screen.
Exactly, couldn't have said it better. I love the hardware but touchwiz is a let down. I'm currently running Nova Launcher which makes the OS look more premium and not cartoonish.

Hi Folks,
I am almost got fed up reading battery saving tips for android, turn off all features, add bulky battery etc. You can see thousands of forums, with the same same old tips like this, if the features has to be turned off, then why an S4, Nokia classic phone was fine right?
Just one Query, does any one know how to implement iOS like Power/Application management in Android/Galaxy S4 ? The iOS motto is like, if you are using device, it would consume battery , otherwise no. Just wanted something like this which can save battery, any idea ?
Cheers,
Kirankumar.
Turn off all sync and backup features. Turn off all location reporting features. Greenify persistent apps.

Hi,
I did try Greenify, and its like everytime the apps needs to be manually force stopped after use, thats a bit wierd, and to take the full advantage, the phone needs to be rooted. As rooting voids the warranty, it wont be a good idea.
Cheers,
KiK
So I assume you have i9500 version with no good custom roms.
Without customs roms you cant do much.

In android , we have numerous background processes which obviously drains the battery. If you can reduce these processes then u would have a better battery backup. Background processes of iOS n Android are completely different so dont compare it. Rooting is the best way to gain control of your device.

Two batteries may result into caliberation issues. Its better to buy a power pack instead of extra battery.

Hi Pal,
Ya, I know, and about Custom rom , I am no longer interested at the moment, got to play enough with my Galaxy S+ and Custom ROM, so advantage and disadvantages are very much aware now . With my S4, I dont want to root it or flash Custom ROMs, I was trying to find a way without affecting the official ROM. Trying some workaround, shall let you knw if it works.

Hi Smith,
Thanks for the suggestion, however, I wouldn't recommend that option when you have to do Opening , change battery and closing the back cover on a daily basis, that doesn't look good isn't it? fine, the other option, adding a double capacity battery, aaaah., Considering the shame that brings for you , when someone says, what the heck you're doing with this soap box ( that much bulky it is) , you would rather wish let the phone be switched off better. ,
Okey fine, I have done a work around , which is not perfect as iOS, but some what near.
What I did was, thanks to the kitkat update, which allows you to turn off all most all of the services (including google services) and all the samsung service (most of them), I have turned off all the Samsung service, which I felt not needed (may be S planner and S memo , may used, keep those), and turned off all the unwanted google services, ( games, newstand, play music) ... I did turn off, so anytime it can be turned off, so that fine.
Now, the result! Initial analysis found to be good, I am now getting 10+ hrs, where as before it was 6hrs, (That too on Wifi/3G, without turning off the extra features, air view and other smart features)
No Crashing, No Lag, and about all the main thing I wanted, it drains a very little when it sleeps, almost like iOS now ( yes, iOS drains almost nothing during sleep ) .
100 to 96% after 8hrs during sleep, its good I would say.
Still I could do nothing about SAMOLED Screen and Voice call, which found to be the main battery eater.
Let's see if something new comes to save in Android 4.5 /or 5, which ever the upcoming version is.
Cheers,
KiK

1-your s3 off or before loading the system hold ( power + home + volume ) and you'll enter the recovery mode
put the rom in a memory card in s3 ( dont unzip it or anything )

If you want to game, easy choice. N9005.
The CPU is more powerful in that field (In gaming base-Ghz values matter. In everyday use not so much.)
And the Adreno GPU is designed for gaming. The Mali in the Exynos device is not.
Mine doesn't lag, and I get about 5-6h screen time out of a full charge. Screen off about a week in deep sleep.

Wow... I mean you are getting that much battery time from your note with mobile data on or off? As I've to sync my mails a lot via Gmail and I use twitter too... And mobile notifications for the people I followed are always on. I've Xperia SP as well and I am getting 30 hour battery with 40-50 min call, 24/7 mobile data on, sms, twitter, Feedly, whatsapp and instagram active.
And I do have Sony Stamina mode enabled as well.

Mobile Data is on, Sync is off. Device can't go into deep sleep if it's syncing. I check Facebook and Gmail briefly every hour or so. Hence the difference between screen-on time (in use) and Deep Sleep (standby).
