maybe the note is too hyped up for nothing - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

well i owned so many phones, and the most phone that gave me a headache is the note.
compared to even a phone that runs gingerbread which is my xperia play, everything is running so smooth, no lags on anything on xperia play not like the crappy GB or ICS roms on the note
as for the iphone i think honestly after all the problems i faced with the note like random reboots the iphone is the king of all phones. Screw all the customization to make the note run smoothly. This is not supposed to be our job to go through hell to make it run smoothly, its dam SAMSUNG job to release a smooth running flawless phones

so many lags so many reboots, it just drove me crazy, tried all custom rom but could never settle on one to be used for my daily use, so went back to stock which is crappy as hell too

Never had a random reboot, using TSF shell I get no lag, u must have a defective unit.

An "experienced Android user" would never claim that the iPhone was the best phone on the market.

I swear by my Note and ever since my beloved HTC magic and loved android (the G1 was not quite there for me..android 1 sucked ass)
I have converted many fan boys in my time to the temple of google and they all love android.
The note is the best android device I have owned, the screen is beautiful and I never have any crashes etc.
At least we can customise the note...I am so glad I sold my milestone all those years ago

I've had phones like old Nokia Brick phones, Sony Ericsson with Symbian OS, Htc touch with Windows OS, Iphone, Iphone 3g & 3gs, Iphone 4, Htc snesation (android) and Finally.... Samsung G Note.
All i can say, Samsung Note + Android is the best combination and so far the best phone I've ever had. When I look back I feel ashamed that I had Iphone TOY in the past.

Well, I bought my first cell phone (Motorola) in 1998 and since then have owned many different models and makes but since I bought the Note in January, I have never been completely satisfied with any phone until now!
It is true that with GB I had frequent reboots but since I upgraded to ICS LQ2 two weeks ago I haven't had ANY random reboots or malfunctions whatsoever.
I believe the Note is probably one of the best and most useful phone ever made to date and you probably just have a faulty phone. I am sorry for you

Another "HIT ME" post by Apple fanboy.

This has to have been a troll post but what the heck I'll humour them.
I have to say the Note has to have had the LEAST problems of any phone I've had. On any platform.
I have flashed and rooted this thing six ways from Sunday and it just keeps chugging along.
I have done my homework and I'm sure that helps but in my mind the Samsung devices are well suited to customization and pretty forgiving to noobs. The Note is just another shining example of that.
Now that I have it set up how I like it I'm very happy. Or at least till the next shiny new beast comes along

To the OP: Do you really expect to post something like this and not get all this "hate" from others? You are on the Note forum. So, why don't you sell your Note and go back to your little iPhone world?

Wow, everyone is trying to get rid of their Galaxy S

So, I'm a daily patron on craigslist and as a side hobby I trade phones, I always seem to make a profit if I wait so it's something I do kinda for fun. I have had a recent influx of literally every kind of galaxy S phone there is aside from the Nexus S (which I wouldnt touch with a 10 foot pole.) For example, I posted my HD7 less than 2 hours ago, and have had 13 offers, 4 are unlocked iphones and the remaining 9 have all been captivates or vibrants all offering as much as 150 cash with their phone for an HD7. I mean a couple would be written off as coincidence but literally every offer. I mean I knew these phones were crap the first time I touched the vibrant but it's funny seeing all these media sheep finally realizing they made a bad deal. Samsung has always been the biggest scam artist in the phone world and it's good to see so many people finally realizing it. This just goes to show that HTC is the only way to go
You can't really talk unless you've owned a galaxy s phone. I can tell you from experience the Captivate or Vibrant is anything but a piece of ****. Given, the software sucks but that's why we have xda, right?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Had a vibrant 3 days, rooted, unlocked, and running the G2 girmware (or a clone). Worst phone I've had since the cliq. The original software was crap (thank you XDA for that save) and the overall plasticky feel of it paired with the buffer overrun issue just killed it. My wife owns a captivate, much better build quality and doesnt seem to have the same buffer issues though I would think it should. XDA has made that phone usable but by default... hardly. I'd still pick an HD2 running android over it any day. Of course this is ffrom someone whos grown tired of android as a whole and the fact that it has to be constantly 'tweaked' just to remain functional but as a former android fanboy, those phones were kinda an embarassment and way overhyped for mediocrity.
I owned a Nexus S for long enough to have an opinion: I'm never buying from Samsung again.

people who buy vibrants are people who do what the media tells them is more individual. Go be a mac user. I'll stick to real android devices manufactured by HTC as they should be.
Had a Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia between jan 2009 and mars 2010 (dropped it in water that killed the Omnia but thank lord not the SIM and memory cards).
Anyone still remember the Samsung marketing of that phone. Well to make a long story short: The i900 never delivered what Samsung promised in their marketing.
Sticking to SonyEricsson now.

hence the reason hes texting from a G2... he obviously gave it up...
I own a Captivate - and other than the crappy OTA OS, non-working GPS, random shutdowns, and the lag... it's a great phone.
But.. thanks to XDA and much tweaking the performance of the phone is better, GPS hobbles along semi working - but the shutdown issue still exists due to hardware and I've been too busy to go get it exchanged.
I wouldn't recommend getting a Samsung phone to anyone. I like mine (when it works) but couldn't recommend it to anyone else.

I guess you missed the "sent from my G2."
If you were in the UK I may have brought something from ya, I could do with another phone xD
the nexus s is the biggest phone ripoff ive seen in some time ... they took a half year(which is alot in phone life) hardware , gave it an update that everyone is gonna have in a few months anyway , slapped a full price on , and WOW THE NEW NEXUSSSSS !! ppl who fall for that , well i pity them
Wow, everyone is trying to get rid of their Galaxy S...
...Some of us never even had one
some people were so lucky.
I will personally never buy a samsung phone again after owning the moment. The wife has an epic and loves it but i dont care much for it.
That said the latest LG phones have been very nice and i am not a fan of sense so its nice to have options other than htc.
Your average every day person will either think the vibrant is a great phone or a complete fail. I liked my vibrant until I started hearing about the issues and realized they exist. Now, after many modifications, I like it more than any phone out now.
I work with 3 people that own droid x's. Anytime I've asked any of them to play with it, it's had nearly as much lag as my stock vibrant. I owned a g2 for 3 days and mytouch 4g for a week. Those are for people that want a new, fast phone and don't care how it looks or how they look using one. Neither are very physically attractive, they run decent though.
Galaxy S phones were definitely a fail software wise by samsung. Hardware wise, they're still as good as anything else. They aren't for people that want a top phone but don't want to modify it.

some nnob said he had G2 firmware on his Vibrant... BS! My vibrant is a G2/MT4G/EVO/DroidX killer, screw benchmarks, just take raw performance. Yes I rooted and flashed roms (no lag-fix though) but thats wats so great abiut android.
Now I will say that out of the box it has issues, but so has every phone. (excluding the G1 it was excellent) But I have working gps, night mode imo better than led flash, ffc with all video chat apps working, noled for notifications, full 2.2 with flash 10.1, ect...
The SGS community have made thus phone great. People just have to take advantage.

well I mean there have been over 10 million galaxy s phones sold, so its understandable that they'd show up on craigslist more. but because of past experiences with Samsung, (ie my mom's moment) I would never trust a Samsung again. should've got her a htc hero.
sent from evo using xda app
everyone says sammy's bad about updating but what about moto and the cliq? htc and the G1 after the mytouch and n1 release? Dell and sony still shipping 1.6? they all sucked. Sammy was smart by concentrating on one device, working the update and allowing the carrier to add tweaks. The phone has been here 6mos max and people are clamoring that they are slow, the phone is still new, and they've dropped updates already for launch day issues. If your unit is defective exchange it, you got a year warranty like the rest of us.

Why all the Samsung misconception and hate?

I have seen numerous HTC fans spew crap about Samsung for updates and build quality issues. For example, many state that the plastic build quality is of very low quality, of which is very opposite in reality in which in plastic is actually very solid. I have dropped my Vibrant many times and it still looks like new, can't say that about metal which dents and gets dinged. As for updates, blame your carriers. The international versions got updates several months before the carrier versions.
Here are some quotes from some obvious HTC users.
"Last year, Consumer Reports (a major U.S. publication) branded the U.S. Galaxy S versions as some of the best Android phones. Not only were they NOT the best, they were missing some basic functionality and lagged like a phone from a previous generation. Let's not even talk about lack of support from Samsung. Too many people fall for the SAMOLED eye candy and ignore everything else."
Or "Thank god I have some help.. hehe I honestly dunno why these SamSux people think S G II is pretty muhahua. It's one ugly plastic crap i've ever seen. They keep coming in HTC thread telling people to buy their plastic crap. "
Or "Another troll just childish, u will se Samsung will never have so awesome devs like HTC phones have especially when.I look at the desire section, a lot of them will buy a sensation and that's the reason why i will buy one to "
What do you think about the public conception of Samsung here at XDA?
The first quote is spot on. The lag was unbearable, the GPS inop, and support was nonexistent. Samoled was nice until you seen the jagged text. Battery life was also terrible. The phones are usable now, after 3-4 updates (updates that were bricking phones and frying storage, mind you) but the GPS is still borderline useless for lots of people and it still lags more than a Samsung jack wm6.5 device (by a long shot).
I they do better with the s2 good for them, but they are indefendable irt these phones. Hype can only get you so far...

Way to read my first paragraph. Support was due to the carriers, not Samsung directly. And I still do not understand what this lag is, even on JFD I had installed 30 apps and still little to no lag for me.
And the jagged text? have both a HD7 and a HD2 with me no, and I see no difference worth speaking of between the screens. I do 20/20 vision.
Battery life terrible? Wait till you see the desire HD or thunderbolt. The GS2 has also been reported to have good battery life.
Have you even tried a custom rom N8ter? CM7 nevers lags, even when underclocked to 400 mhz. And as to that HTC phones work better out of the box statement, we are on XDA. Hell, many of those HTC fanboys wanted the Sensation due to the dev attention they believed it would get, even with a locked bootloader.
I don't mod my phones and nor should anyone be expected to. The performance of the phone now is usable. Where was cyanogen in august to December 2010, though?
Don't answer that.
Bunch of excuses. What you quoted is true.
Text on a samoled panel is more jagged than on others. Its a side effect of the pen tile pixel arrangement used. Its very noticeable when you have white text on a black background - at least for me it is.
These panels also suffer from burnin more than any other screen type I've used.
Support from carriers does not help when the hardware is faulty (gps)'or the device has design flaw like rfs. Samsung can push out an update that replaces rfs. They choose not to. They should have recalled phones with known hw gps falls but.they just blamed it on the users andbgave them a useless tool to rwser some setting many of us never touched to begin with.
I read your whole post btw, bit I'm typing from devices so stop acting.like I'm obligated to comment on or rebut every tucking thing in it...

This is the fourth vibrant I've had, gps was piss poor, and I was able to get new ones because of it. This newest handset has really good locks. I like the phone even after the gps problems. I bought an otter box and some ghost armor. With the case it feels solid. I know not everyone will get a case to make the phone feel built but it's nice. Id buy another samsung device no problem. I like the feel and ease of use.

Fact: Despite samsung's delay in releasing froyo for the vibrant and it's GPS problems, the vibrant was/is still a greatr phone with an awesome display and great hardware!
Guys , am just wating for galaxy s 2 , rumour has it that it is going to be the best smart phone for a long time!!
I have to agree with N8ter. This will probably be my last Samsung device. I told myself from the start I'd never get another Samsung device, but it was all Asurion had to replace my water-damaged, but beloved N1. Ugh. I wish I had waited for them to get something else.
The lag KILLS me! I want to throw the damn phone against the wall or some concrete almost daily. Samsung could have definitely kept RFS to their damn selves. Even the browser lags on me most times.
I get a bunch of missed calls even when I have full coverage. The only way I'd even know I would miss them is if my girlfriend would text me to pick up my phone or check Google Voice for missed calls.
The GPS... yeah. Go back to the comment about me wanting to throw my phone against the hardest surface available, and multiply that by 100. The GPS has almost made me late for several appointments (job interviews, drug testing, etc.), and actually gotten me lost in my own native home of Atlanta. I don't get how the hell the GPS can possibly think I'm somewhere .5 miles away then where I am actually am.
I absolutely hate how it doesn't have an LED. NoLED does the job, but isn't really what I would call a suitable replacement.
I also hate how it looks like an iPhone. If I wanted an iPhone lookalike, I would have went out and bought an iPhone. I am really tired of people always asking me, "Is that an iPhone?"
I also despise TouchWiz. I despise manufacturer skins in general, but touchwiz REALLY grinds my gears.
One of the very few good redeeming qualities about this damn phone is the amount of internal storage, but which I barely make use of b/c of wanting to keep all of files stored on my external. I also like the dev tools they have, such as Odin. It's saved me a couple of times from bad flashing and just plain operator error. I also like how easy it was to install the front facing camera. But, then again, why the hell should I have to install it in the first place?
Overall, I am not a happy camper with Samsung. Once I start this new job, or get my financial aid refund check , it's definitely time for a new phone, and it sure as hell won't be Samsung. I was thinking about giving this phone to my girlfriend to replace her T-Mobile Tap, but I don't know if I want to torture her that much.
P.S. This is after using custom roms. God forbid how horrid my experience would have been on stock. I think I might have really thrown it in oncoming traffic.
its obvious that you're stuck in your mindset, so why even start a thread? its useless. coming from an owner of both brands, each have pros and cons. my epic and inspire both have poor battery life. inspire is smooth while the epic lags. furthermore, my epic has better overall display, but the inspire looks better picture wise, not contrast or color, quality. my point is, phones appeal to one person or another. no need for a useless thread targeting one manufacturer.

It is quite fast and has a much more pleasant desing than most other HTC phones.
Only problem is the HORRIBLE gps.

You are just whining and repeating what other members have stated so many times in this thread. HTC sucks, Samsung will always be better. All the problems that you are whining about disappeared when custom roms came. That's the point of custom roms so you don't have to use the crappy stock firmware. Anyway if you are still having trouble after using a custom rom and still think you have room to complain, then you probably shouldn't even own an android device and it is most likely user error. You're just an HTC fanboy, I am not saying that Samsung is the best but they are better than HTC. On top of that the Vibrant outdoes most of the new phones and all of the older phones that T-mobile has and it's over 6 months old. So quit basing your opinions on the phone off of your HTC loyalty.

And you're a closed-minded Samsung fanboy so you can take your opinion and go eat shi* for all I care. Most of my complaints might have been stated already, but clearly the more times it's stated proves it's not just isolated incidents. I'm not basing my phone off of any loyalty. I'm basing it off of the fact that it frustrates the hell out of me. And I assure you it's not user error. I've been dealing with computers and electronics and modding etc since I was 7 and am a computer science major, so I assure you it's not user error. Every single one of those problems has persisted since I used a custom rom, and who the hell are you to tell me I shouldn't own an Android device? I know all about custom roms and have been using them since I got my first smartphone, the HTC wizard. If you think Samsung is better than HTC, that's fine. We're all entitled to our opinion. I, however, could care less about another Samsung phone ever again. I really regret the day my Nexus One fell in that pot of water.

Pretty cool ! I like how it supported 3g video calling in 2005 I had a Nokia 6630 then
To each their own.
I am commited to buying a usa sgs2. Why with the terrible support we've had? I truely think that samsung has learned their lesson. Releasing the source so soon after the phones launch is amazing. I have also read just about every review and watched every video. Its exactly the experience I want.
Even with all the problems of the sgs... I still love it. The reason why I know I love it is cause I am currently using a mytouch 4g. Its great that I can overclock it to 1.5ghz. Frankly I am really starting to miss my vibrant. I Love that phone. With its ****ty gps and its laggy ass stock ui and its horrible support. I am after all A tinker at heart!

A friend of mine still uses this as his daily phone, he managed to preserved it all this long in a mint condition too

so i picked up a galaxy s2 today.

found someone who needed 2 phones for their one so I traded them 2 garminfones for their galaxy s 2, I gotta say, I don't know if it's because the device is way overhyped on here or because I've just been spoiled by wp7 but this feels pretty choppy. I was told that it was just as smooth if not smoother than wp7 and upon using it all I can think is "all that power for this" paired with the terrible Samsung UI, the games which while numerous don't seem as high quality as other oses, and the keyboard I was pretty disappointed, I thought I might use it for a week and try to get used to it and dual wield it with my dvp but I just can't, its going in the phone drawer to only see the light of day when I'm developing. Honestly it doesn't seem much smoother than my dell streak that I have been using for dev purposes.

you mean I can spend hours finding and downloading a bunch of files to void warranty and have a chance to kill my phone just to make a device that's pretty overpowered as is usable? It doesn't matter what UI replacement you toss on there, android has yet to throw together a UI replacement that's worth the effort. I understand this is xda devs and I have 6 apps on the marketplace but those are apps to improve the phone. Why should I have to download apps and different boot images and a million other things just to make one of the most powerful phones readily available useful?
Yes i think you have, i had a ZTE blade before i had the S2 and the s2 is way better for me than the Blade.

So here's how I see it. You're watching all the press coverage and reading all the outstanding reviews of the SGS2 and that it and Samsung are setting worldwide sales records. There you sit on T-Mobile, a carrier about to be made to look like the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz using your single-core WP7 phone that has a whopping 6% worldwide marketshare. So you're pissed, envious, and feeling a bit stupid for your decision.
You decide to come here and post a bunch of stuff that no one's complained about on the phone before just to get a rise out of those on this forum for sport and to make yourself feel better. Your "I hate Samsung" signature's a nice touch.
Sad, very sad.
Your SGSII only sees daylight when developing....
So you do your developing during the day then??? Amazing.
I came from windows mobile phones. Did not want to walk away from that -because I was afraid I was going to mis my fav. apps- But I bought the SGSII.
If I would have known the SGSII was SO much faster, and SO many fantastic apps exist for Android, I would have bought one sooner.
I can't see how a WP could beat the SGSII. In any respect. Ever.

Yes. You've got a over one thousand posts. Sounds like you've spent many hours here already.
I'm tellin' ya. A customized SGS2 is a piece of art.
I used a lot of phones all different kinds from symbian to wp to android. I must say the fastest phone i ever had was the SGII. Normally i flash all different ROMS and keep playing with the OS. But this wasn't necessary for the SGII. I'm on stock and it works perfect.
I never liked Samsung phones with their own OS but android made me wanna try it and.. I'm loving it. It's a fast phone deal with it.
Till you have a serious issue don't come here complaining about something that no one has. If you have beef with Android go get a WP phone, If I where you i would sell the SGII while it's hot

I would love to take your sgs2 off your hands for you

I have no reason to come in trolling. I am more than happy with wp7 and love Samsung phones. My signature was listed as such when the original string of galaxy s devices came out and I got the vibrant. That was a joke of a phone and I i opted for the captivate which had the back door mechanism fall off the tracks after about 4 hours of use. Windows phone 7 is the only OS for me now, the UI is seamless across all devices, i don't have to fear that i won't be receiving the next update (got 5 so far), and it syncs with everything that's important to me without flaw. I can't wait for the next Samsung wp7 device though I'll be hard pressed to ditch the dell venue pros keyboard. Of course no one here complains of the speed issues, the vast majority who own it came from other android devices, windows mobile, or Symbian. Compared to all of those its extremely fast.
oh, and commodoor, windows mobile is not equal to windows phone. Just clarifying as i reviewed your rather extensive phone history.
All in all the phone is astounding, but it's kinda like putting windows 95 on a brand new PC, sure it functions and you can perhaps even tweak it to run somewhat fast... But it's not going to be windows 7 or windows 8
Been a Nokia Fan ever since I started Buying phones and then came Android and bought my HTC Hero and Boy did I become a FLASH JUNKIE ( still have it )
And Then Heard about WP7 and HTC having wooed me with Hero went and Got my self a HTC HD7 and I loved its simplicity ( I HAVE a IPOD TOUCH so didnt really fancy going for a IPHONE , thought It was too easy compared to Android)
ALthough I loved a lot of the things the WP7 bought, BING MAPS and NO FLASH got the better of me and off I went to get the SGS2 and give samsung a go and Me was happy again.
The Most thing I like about Samsung is getting Firmware over ODIN and thats why I still haven't rooted it.
But now MS having released MANGO for WP7 I feel love towards WP7 again and having been a NOKIA FAN I will definately buy a NOKIA WP7.
But to sum it All I love ANDROID cause of FLASH and the customisation it offers and that you dont have to rely on carriers for your updates.

Nothing like putting windows 95 on a new pc, maybe good ol' XP though, I'll give you that.
I must say, I've missed flash only twice since I ditched android but I only really used it for videos I played in browser (I don't visit many flash sites) so it didn't hurt too bad. Then the videos in mango greatly improved in quality so now I can watch any random video mostly in HD and eh... Nothing I i really miss about android. I always kept my themes minimal anyway.

I know that they are different.
What i understand is that you are afraid of fragmentation, most people are. I know where you getting at but i must say it's not that worse as one year ago. I know Hero was stuck at Android 1,5 for a looong time.
I love plain android i used it for a long time with cyanogenmod. But the TW isn't that heavily modded like the sense on HTC phones. Sense is really heavy btw. I didn't like the new metro look of the WP but that makes the choice so great.
So android gives you the choice to choose your own phone. Choose what you, that's great.
want plain android go for nexus series
want a socially integrated phone go for sense
someting between go for samsung
I'm not worried that we have to wait long for updates on Galaxy.

Disappointed with Samsung

Maybe a general rant, but I am extremely disappointed in Samsung. I bought the Note the day it came out, at top dollar, international version. I was fully expecting a stable ICS update, and much sooner than it came out. But fine, it came out a few months later than I expected it. And ever since the update, it just been downhill. My battery life has gone from 15 hours to 8 hours(same usage profile, same apps), camera freezing, etc. I was running stock.
I have hacked in the past, had an inspire and put ROMs every few weeks, so yes, I can go install better battery stats, and run CPU spy, find out about wakelocks and run CPU spy, and spend a whole bunch of time debugging it, or run AOSP etc. But really, do I have to do this for a device that is 4 months old and is supposedly the "top device" of Samsung? Cant they test the upgrades on their phones in a much better manner? The only thing I miss from my iphone 3G days (since I switched to Android) is the timely, and very well tested updates (and the backup restore of everything, one click, seamless). I never had a problem, and if I did, it was resolved very quickly, usually. I wont go back to iOS again, ever. But I really want an Android other than Nexus (I like TW, I started liking Sense a lot too), and have updates on time, well tested.
Is that really too much to ask? If Samsung is expecting to be a top Android phone manufacturer, is that too much to ask? To be very honest, I am extremely disappointed with Samsung, very very disappointed. I had friends with the S2 who were similarly disappointed, and I was really hoping that things would work better this time around. I guess Ill have to go onto rooting and try different roms, but my point is, I dont have to do all this. Just extremely disappointed with Samsung. I am really hoping Google does something with good with Motorola. Really really hoping.
Same here. Not to mention the superbrick bug which is known for what ... 3 months or so ? Other than Samsung is working on it, nada, zit, zero ... I guess we are lucky for having XDA because without it I'd be stuck with an expensive phone I'm afraid to even update through the official software let alone put roms on ( I thought that was the main strength of Android btw ( extreme mod-ability) ?
I was also considering in buying a tablet, Android tablet, Samsung tablet. Now ? Neh, I will wait and see what the Infinity looks like in the real world and if I don't like that I'll get an iPad. I used to love Samsung but their late attitude is very suggestive : we've got your 600 euro, **** off now.

Its just an attitude I cannot condone. I might not like a lot of things about Apple, but they do a very good job with trying to keep up their commitments and making devices( atleast one generation before) that work according to spec. If not, I can walk into a damn store and get it serviced within my warranty. Samsung does nothing. Running contests for best apps and hiring the best developers does not get Samsung anywhere. 700 bucks, and I have a phone which I cannot use a lot without making sure i have a charger around. I dont really knew if Samsung is even reading this, or even if they care(as you said, they have our money now we can **** off), but I am hoping enough people complaining makes some bit of a difference to them to make even current (4 month old users, ****ing insane) a priority and not just go on and do the next exciting thing. If nothing changes in any manufacturer, I might do the unthinkable andmove back to iOS. With two jobs, when do I find time to be sitting and looking at custom roms and wakelocks and preventing incrementing binary counters just to get the battery life I was promised?. Without xda, I would be dead, really, very helpful people who can answer questions and point me in the right direction.
If it just works all day, I might just make the switch back one day. Scr** Samsung.
Well, this is usually what you get with a true multitasking OS. The problem you are having is mainly on usage time (from your description). As Uncle Ben said it, "with great power comes great responsibility". Its Android design problem and not totally Samsung fault in this issue, though there are things that I would like Samsung to fix. For FCs with applications, a factory reset or wiping the application data normally would solve the problem. Again, this is the OS issue. Sigh...
As you can see, most smart phone actually last about 5 hours per charge. You extend the usage time by suspending the phone. The thing is, a multitasking OS allows applications to run in background and those applications might be preventing the phone from getting suspended. If you never install any 3rd party applications on your phone, you won't likely get this problem, thus the reason I quote Uncle Ben. Microsoft learnt this with Windows Mobile, thus Window Phone now works like IOS where applications sent to background are suspended.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not protecting Samsung. If you own a Sony Ericsson, Motorola or HTC, you'll be there in their respective thread renting the same thing.
Just go back to Gingerbread, what's so great about ICS?
Oh boy, not another "samsung sucks, im going to buy apple" thread...

Sure, the iPad is the best tablet available. It can't do half the things Android does, not to mention Windows 8 tablets in comparison with which, the iPad is just a big mp3 player. But good choice. And no, this is not hate for Apple. I had an iPad, liked it very much, but after a month it turned out that it practically can't do anything...
Cool story. Just won an ipad 3. Set it up and was playing with it. I think the screen sucks and the OS is frigging boring. Sold it on ebay.
I'm more disappointed the Galaxy Nexus got the ban hammer in the US. I refuse to ever use an Apple product.
Same thing here. I bought an iPhone 4S 3 months after I bought my Galaxy S2. Sold the 4S within a week.
There's something about android that once you go android you can't really go back. Well at least for me.

While I would agree that the OS is so friggin boring, I CANNOT agree that the screen sucks. I have never seen anyone say that the new iPad's screen sucks, except for you. Just saying,
I will never choose Samsung again.
They are lazy and they are cheap. I had a problem with my logical board and they didn't replace my phone. Now they replaced my logical board and it has deep sleep issues.
Now i have to send my phone for the FOURTH time so i can get anywhere.
They got my money once, yes. Never again....

I would agree an iPhone or iPad is boring but the ease of use is something you can't argue about. It's simple, boring, and friggin' expensive. That's why it's for retards. Sorry apple fanboys but it's the truth

That's unfortunate. I have voiced this before and concur with the OP, that no one should HAVE to root or download custom ROMs for a great experience with any Android device, be it from Samsung or any other company.
It's a show of mediocrity by Android and Android phone manufacturers when they place products in the market which truly do not perform without a bunch of optimizations. If this continues, Android will never overtake iOS and any Android device will always be behind an iPhone and an iPad.

I'll never buy a. Samsung again either. I'll get a google or HTC phone.
Samsung feels cheap hardware-wise and more importantly delayed ICS far too long.
Almost in the same boat here.

Although i didn't have any motherboard issue, i had the deep sleep issue ever since i upgraded to ICS and i didn't even notice it until recently.
Thanks to XDA members i was able to solve it by turning off the last 4 options in sound settings and unlocking the phone before i unplug it from the wall charger.
The lag in touchwiz launcher for a 700 euro device was not tolerable for me, so i replaced it with ADW EX launcher. You would expect that they would enable gpu acceleration in their launcher with ICS, but anyway.
The worst thing is that mmc_erase bug. I am actually scared to install CM9 because i have one of those 0x19 faulty chips according to the gotbrick app.
No updates to ICS for Greece even though 2 months have passed since DBT users had it, amoled black clipping issues with videos, black spots when you view black images at night (which is no issue according to them) <--- really?
The only option left for me is to get the next nexus device when that comes out, unless it is made by Samsung again (read: volume bug).
The emmc bug in SGN is shame on SAMSUNG, really i'm extremely disappointed. SHAM ON YOU SAMSUNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh that is calculative risk for Samsung not to rush out the firmware update. Who in the world would a normal user wipe their phone daily, weekly or monthly. A normal user would almost never factory reset the phone. Also, if it did indeed brick the phone, just bring it to your nearest Samsung service centre to get a free mainboard replacement. No warranty? Complain to the consumer association and get a refund.

It just sucks compared to my Notes screen. Lot of blotchy colors and no way to change the DPI to something other than what's for people with sight problems. For how much praise it gets, I laughed my ass off.
The ONE thing I did like about the ipad was the minimal battery drain in deep sleep.... Or maybe it's because it's a 11000mAh battery.
Oh the other thing was how much $$ I got for selling it.
If you do not like them and disappointed please just go get something better than that. I do know there is issue with but I like my note and I will go find better way to use this best one rather than complain and crying.

[Q] Getting bored of Android.. Should I get the One?

So guys, I really love Android and have been using it for three years now since Galaxy S, after that I got a Galaxy S II and now own a Galaxy Note II... and Android has evolved beyond my imaginations throughout this whole period... I love Android and I can't believe I am saying this but I think I am getting bored of it.. A year ago I would've laughed at that and recommended the thousands of ROMs and launchers available in Android that change up your experience drastically...
I have flashed almost every ROM that is available for every device that I have owned, MIUI, CM, PA, SlimJB, SlimICS, ARHD, Omega, WanamLite, CarbonROM, HyperDroid, Liquid Smooth, AOKP, Hellybean, and so so so much more. In fact 1 year ago, I would've been considered a flashaholic as I was changing my ROM every week I loved doing it and so I did... I never honestly thought it was possible to get bored of Android but two weeks after getting the Note II (4 months ago) I got bored of it...
I have also tried almost every launcher out there, ADW Launcher, Launcher Pro, Apex, Nova, Next, Action, SPB Shell 3D, TSF, Chameleon, TouchWiz, and many more, I have also used a ton of widgets and watched tutorials on YouTube on how to customize many other widgets..
I know many people buy phones as tools and to get things done but I get phones because they're a hobby and exciting, and I like to keep things exciting which I can't make my Android phone to be anymore, not that anything is wrong with it, but because I think 3 years is enough to try out everything there is about it... iOS would get boring in under 3 months tops..
So my main question is, is the HTC One different enough (Sense) to be exciting to buy for me, considering I have only ever owned Samsung smartphones, maybe HTC Android phones are different and may provide an exciting experience? I know there are many people here like me who have been using Android for a long time and may be able to relate to this and this question is directed at them.... only other OSs I can buy is a BB or a WP8, neither of which I have ever owned.
Go too a local shop and play with the One for some time. Consider yourself if that experience is on another level than you have right now with your note ii

sense is deffinetly a ui appart from others.
so far i only owned htc devices and sense sure is a beauty but also verry tight.
the only modding i can think of is start skinning it youreself to keep the overall experience intresting or maybe learn to cook.
also in htc devices since the s-on(security) its a little bit more stepps needed to flash something wich set me back on my flashing rate(used to flash every day o.0)
not sure how the blinkfeed is as im still waiting for my pre order to be deliverd but the things like stereo speakers and htc zoe pulled me over to order a htc again(i wanted to leave because the s-on stuff)
all in all flashing is still able to be done with a few steps and if you never experienced sense its deffinetly worth trying it once.
as for youre other devices try buzz launcher, you can interchange homescreens with other users wich is verry easy and lets you have a different home screen every day

Good point, but the thing Is that I thought that the Note II was a radical change with its completely redesigned Nature UX (when I used it in a store) which I hadn't used on my SII but two weeks later and I was bored.

Yeah but isn't using Sense like installing a different ROM? And after some time I am sure I will change the launcher to something I have already used and wouldn't I then be bored once again? And I did think about cooking stuff up myself but I am knee deep into my A Levels and don't have a lot of time to burn..
My guess is that you will get bored of almost anything so assume same for the HTC One.

So you're recommending a different OS?
buy it and dont histate, i have all the iphones which really boring, nothing intersting they all look the same with little to nothing changes, and the windows phone is not as popular or appealing yet, you will like it.
I get bored with Android from time to time as well. I took a month+ break with the Lumia 920 and a 2 week break with the BB Z10.
In both cases I loved the change and something new but I still got bored and came back because at least with Android you have Roms/Tweaks/etc. to help with boredom, once you play with all the differences in WP8/BB10 and the newness wears off you end up even more bored than you were.
That said, if you use your phone for more "phone" and less "ROM Flashing", I highly recommend you give WP8/BB10 a try. They are both amazing and fluid. (At least go in to a store and check them out)

I actually find the WP8 platform very appealing not as good as android in terms of features but it looks fantastic in terms of interface.
Since you can't make your own decisions, I flipped a coin and it says it's time you move on to other platform.

Extremely helpful response (not that others weren't)... Thank you very much...
And I used to use my phone for ROM Flashing but now I just want to use my phone as is...
You have obviously moved beyond phones as the experience is pretty well the same whatever you get - all confined to a thing you hold in your hand powered by a battery and running similar software with similar features.
Time to get your kicks elsewhere. Have you tried sky diving? I am not a sky diver myself but I am told there is never a dull moment.

That should provide more interesting experiences than I ever thought possible!
Although I definitely still enjoy phones otherwise I wouldn't waste so much time on forums looking for the right One.. XD

So you're recommending a different OS?

No, you will get bored with every OS if you are bored with Android, because nothing is as customizable as Android. Try iOS for a week and you'll fall asleep (not to say iOS isn't good, but for someone like you, you'd never last).

Yep. Coming from an iphone this is absolutely true. Stick to Android mate unless you got the money to experiment with other phones. You will end up going back to the good old droid.

Very beautiful response.. thank you
and I can definitely see how you're right.. an OS couldn't be as customizable as Android and I would probably get bored of other OSs so much faster...
I got the same feeling with Android, since hd2 I'm with HTC and finally after using one x for almost 1 year, I felt bored and gave a thought of getting iPhone for the first time as I was very impressed with its build quality. So, used my friend's iPhone 5 for 1 day and I got the feeling that I've nothing to do with this.
Finally after seeing the One with its refreshed Sense version, I am waiting for it to be available in my country.
I find that iOS is best for iPad for entertainment. But for a phone Android with sense is best for me, as I can't use Android without Sense. Used WP7 on HD2 and I'm not interested in it anymore. These are just my feelings, no offence.

I got tired of flashing roms myself and was seriously considering win phone. But once I've seen it and used it, decided to go with android.
Good thing with droid is that you can make it look like windows phone or iPhone or anything else but not other way around. Start using your phone for a change and stop experimenting with different roms at least for a while. And you will eventually kick out of that mood and start flashing again. Maybe at slower pace.
