My sister is looking at a new phone. She wanted the iphone 4 but with the data plan change she is not sure if she wants to deal with it.
She was talking about switching companies with me, and as long as i can get my unlimited data plan then i'm switching to verizon.
She wants something good, doesn't know which phone though.
both have 1ghz processors and android.
Can't find ram specs on the droid x but i know it's 512mb on the htc.
Anyone have a good comparison and what do you guys thing. I just haven't been in the cell phone scene for almost a year. I am getting ready for a new phone in oct/nov so i am getting into it now.
If you're not doing it for a few months yet, then just wait for a better phone. The Samsung Galaxy S (instantly rootable, and fully open bootloader) is the best phone that is about to come out if you like to have root. The Droid X won't have root for 4+ months according to Birdman, and the bootloader may never be cracked. A real **** move by Motorola.
re
I was all set on the moto Droid x, but now...
The Samsung Fascinate is looking really freaking good.
In the side by side reviews that i have seen, the samsung has the best screen that i have ever seen. Plus its rootable, plus it has a faster humming bird 1ghz processor, the same clock speed but in test it shows to be much faster overall.

I don't know about that? Where are these tests? I was under the impression they are very comparable in speed. I personally like Moto's build quality... even if I can't reflash it. The Fascinate looks like the case is plastic, which just isn't as good as a full metal case.
Between the Droid X and the Droid Incredible, I must say the Droid X, its a powerhouse...
This is for my sister. if it was me, the samsung coming out looks amazing but I am not getting android. Sorry.
She will never do anything for the bootloading or rootable options. She is not into the phone stuff like i am, and wouldn't be able to do it from her technical knowlege. And she is looking right now, can't wait at all, so samsung is out of the question at the moment.
Any other advice would be great. thanks to all that have posted already.
For a girl, the Droid Incredible or wait for the Samsung Fascinate.
Yep. See how she likes the Droid X in the hand first... just drive to a Verizon store and compare the two phones. There's also the problem of the Incredible's availability, but Sense wi definitely be more friendly than Ninjablur for the average user.
I have both and the droid x if far. Better. The incredible battery life sucks. I been using droid x for 11 hours and it still at 23% on the battery. That is with heavy use.

I have the incredible, droid and the droid x. My opinion is the x even thou the incredible is rooted the x is a whole lot better then both of them combined.
Now with root it will happen with the X and it will be amazing

Motorola chargers, I wish we could get a universal charging synching option from the industry. Why is it that the USB cord that works perfectly for every other device I have owned will charge and sync but not with Droid X. I just hate the length of the stock cord.

Are u sure that u had a DI prior to this phone? When i went into adb yesterday to gain root on my X (thanks Birdman!), I used the usb cord that came with my DI. In fact, that DI cord is the only cord I've used to charge and transfer files with on my X.
I have found the X's battery to be a solid improvement over the DI; however, it is still rather easy to drain a full battery over the course of the day. I think it's important to remember that people tend to go through signifcantly higher amounts of data when they get a new toy to play with. Even then, I would say that the X's battery life is slightly better than the HTC 2150 mah extended battery that I bought for my DI.
One area that I've found that the X shines is graphics processing. For example, Need for Speed Shift on the X is by far the the most complete, satisfying gaming experience that I've had on a mobile phone (I dont know what Apple is going to do when even games are superior on the android platform).
While not everyone digs the size of the X, I absolutely adore the large screen. The keyboard on the X is the best I've used on a smartphone, and having the ability to switch to Swype is sweet. And for a movie buff like myself, it is sooo nice to be able to transfer movies from my laptop to my X without first having to convert them
Basically, I am really digging the X. However, the DI is a damn nice phone as well. I personally prefer Sense to Blur, and the DI is extremely polished. Being able to DL custom Roms is invaluable. And although it's completely Motorola's prerogative to design their phone as they wish, there's something about efuse and the encrypted bootloader that chaps my hide.
I had pretty much decided to return my X and go back to my DI, until Birdman gained root access to the x yesterday. Having wireless tether, Titanium, shell access, etc. are hugely important to me. However, i am still not sure if this is enough to compensate for the inability to flash ROMs. Damn, why does the X have to have that damn bootloader?
inc is better. ive played with the x numerous times, but i never wanted to switch. its just not the same. the dinc is one of a kind.

i guess it is all preference. in my opinion, the dinc is durable when it comes to modding. ive only tried the x for a couple of minutes, so i wouldnt know how the x is. i do have to say, the x is more of a multimedia and social networking phone, and the inc is more business like.

actually, just for the record. the droid x doesn't have a full metal case.. just the battery door is metal.. much like the Samsung captivate on at&t. but as far as i know you are correct about the Samsung fascinate being "all" plastic. but to put in my two cents. switching from the Dinc to the DX. i am very unsatisfied with the DX slow and laggy UI and the screen looks good and big and clear.. but the colors suck and the contrast ratio is terrible. one of my biggest issues with screens, that of tv, phone, monitor, etc., is being able to see the back light shining through..of which my DX does. So i will be switching to the Galaxy S for that S-AMOLED. but thats just my opinion.
P.S. The Droid X is a really great phone. Just not for me.
The incredible over saturates the colors by over 30 percent. The Droid X is only off by like 6%.

both of these phones have me interested. I like the droid x for the large screen but the droid 2 for the keyboard. I guess the main decider is which one is likely to get better dev support? I know the droid x has a head-start with rooting and custom roms, but is it expected to stay that way?
also, wirefly has the droid 2 for $80 cheaper so... any recommendations?
I went through the Droid 2 vs Droid X decision. I have been using HTC sliders for 6 years. I really don't pull the keyboard out that often and have been using touch screen input (TouchPal). I am new to Android and Motorola phones but I predict that more people will buy Droid 2's because they are a little smaller but same screen resolution and because of the keyboard. I'm pretty sure I will be faster at input using Swype than my physical keyboard. I think its more a comfort issue. If you do a lot of texting/emailing and you are used to a physical keyboard go for the Droid 2.
Guess it's going to be personal preference. I'm in love with the larger screen. I thought at first it was going to be too big, but it just works. Don't think I can ever go down to a 3.5" again. And having the 4.3" screen makes the on screen keyboard just that much easier to work with.
I thought I'd have problems adjusting to landscape on-screen keyboard on Droid X, but I end up very rarely using it at all. Swype does its job so well!
And the screen... I don't think I'm ever going to a smaller one now
Imo it comes down to screen size preference.
I love my droidx but i should have waited till november for this new htc product that's comin to vw. Its lookin very similar to the evo with front facing camera and lte capabilities

Yea im goin nuts too deciding...i have the x now...my 30 days was actually up yesterday..but if i wanted im sure i could talk them into switching it..at my local store the x and Ed are both really slow and barely work because if the security things on the back...so i went 20 min away to look at the Ed for the 5th time and i still can't decide...i can't type as fast oh the physical keyboard but obv i would get used to it...i dont use or need the hdmi option...i love the screen on the x though..color wise..i think it looks better than the d2... but the d2s is nice too lol...im mainly concerned about battery which both seem pretty equal and idk with the x i just feel like scared to even bring it places with me...i dont wannt put it in my pocket and for some reason it just seems like it would get messed up easier than the d2...i feel like if i had the d2 i could bring it with me...throw it in my pocket if i need to..and keep it nice without having to worry as much...i haven't been able to think of anything for the past month ha besides if i wanna keep the x or get something else..now with the droid 2 and my time being up i am literally going nuts..which you can obv tell sry

The X, no question. My brother has the droid 2 and my phone blows his away in appearance and performance. the physical keyboard is pointless. I can fly on the onscreen keyboard or with swype. The screen size is just unreal also. It looks amazing with anything you do on it...
I played around with the Droid 2 Global at the store and ended up ordering a Droid 2 (original) from eBay to upgrade from my somewhat sluggish Droid 1. I noticed a few things.
1) Better keyboard... larger keys are helpful here.
2) Better and firmer sliding mechanism. I get a lot less wobble on the Droid 2 than the first one
3) Brighter screen. I don't know whether they improved the LCD par se but I suspect that it's the same Super LCD of the Droid X that I use once awhile.
Any other improvements over the original?
Only negative is the locked bootloader. Hopefully Droid 3 corrects that.
Motorola has said that they are going to keep their bootloaders locked. So, for me personally i'm going to try and stay away from Motorola phones/tablets in the future.
And as for upgrades from the Droid 1, the upgrades are basically the things you stated, plus the obvious, CPU, Ram etc.
Sounds good then. I just received my Droid 2 and loving it much better than the first one. Very happy guy here.

They use the same battery, so you can keep it and always have a spare!
Check out the fission rom if you miss having vanilla android.
It is much snappier than the stock rom the d2 comes with.

Im currently on a Vibrant running the mighty Bionix after taking my phone on a rom marathon all the way to 2.3.5 and back.
Ive realized touch screen keyboards annoy the crap out of me and I rather use a qwerty keyboard... Samsung will soon be releasing the Galaxy M Pro and Motorola will release the Pro+ - both qwerty Android phones... Which one would you choose? Ive never owned a Motorola smartphone so I dont know how they are in terms of build quality and xda ROM development.
Just get a blackberry. Android qwerty phones are pretty terrible tbh. The new os7 blackberries are battery smooth... Tried them yesterday, and was a bit shocked bh...

I agree with N8ter. If you must have a qwerty keyboard, get a BB.
BB OS is way tooo primitive for me, hence why the Android qwertys are appealing to me.. perhaps the new ones coming out may be better? What makes the older ones terrible?

i had a motorola droid and i it was a great phone. the build quality and feel of the droid was so much better than the vibrant. i havent tried a newer motorola, but i wish tmobile would get a powerful motorola phone. oh yeah, the gps worked perfectly on the droid.
Landscape keyboards are kinda bad. Plus its impossible to get a consistently high typing speed on them (4 me). So much reach needed so often.
Problem I had with the droid ii keyboard was how stiff the keys were. It was really incredible feeling like I had just left the gym after typing on one of those...

Love touchscreen keyboard,
but is Motorola have a better sound quality based on its crystaltalk?
I own 2 AT&T Fuzes (HTC Touch Pro). Bought 1 on 11/8/208. The day it was released in the U.S.
I owned an AT&T Tilt 2 (HTC Touch Pro2) for a little more than a year.
and now I own an LG Quantum.
With all 3 devices, the slide out keyboards worked well and it's easy to get to all the keys. Just use your left thumb for the left side of the keyboard, and your right thumb for the right side of the keyboard. Doing that will avoid any reach issues. Take some time to get used to and learn any odd key placements and you should be able to pump out text at a more rapid rate than with an on screen keyboards where there is no real tactile feel aside from a vibration.
With the suggested words list in Windows Phone 7, I am finding that I use the slide out keyboard much less than with the other devices. With it, I am entering text as fast as I used to with swype.
You might also want to wait until Tuesday when the masses get Mango. It's supposed to have speach to text for text messaging and will read them to you as well. Much better and safer when driving. In most or many states it's illegal to text and drive, not that the law has stopped anyone from doing it though.
I am a very picky phone owner, let me just say that right away. I always have a different phone cause I need to have the latest and greatest. After having the moto x I truly feel as if this is the best overall phone out right now for me.
The s4 was just too damn big and I felt like I always need to use both hands to do anything. Sure the camera was nice but it my daily use its not as big a difference as people make it out too be. Battery was OK, but my x is way better!!
The htc one def has the nicest screen out. But unless your staring at both of these phones side by side the difference is negligible. The camera on the one was absolutely horrible no matter what the conditions! Blurry and over processed colors. Battery life was good but again the x is way better.
I think that overall for what I use the phone for, the x is gonna be with me for a while. I love the size!!! Feel perfect, a good size screen and yet I don't need two hands to always use it. The active notifications are awesome!! Screen is good for me, I'm not one to purposely stare at the screen to try and see if I can see pixels etc. Battery life is awesome, I'm easily getting 4+ hours of screen on time. The camera is not nearly as bad as most reviews report, in my findings. Yes the s4 is better but the moto x holds its own!
I'd like more dev support cause I'm a crackflasher. I'm sure it will come. But if it doesn't happen I'm OK with it because the phone is pretty much the way I'd want a ROM to be anyways.
^^^^ i agree
^^^^^^ I agree x2
As someone who was a hardcore flashaholic this is the first phone I've had that I don't feel the need to immediately load a new ROM onto.
Agreed - I've had tons of android phones (G1, G2, evo and evo 3d, moto backflip, droid and droid 3, galaxy S2, nexus 1, nexus S, gnex, and even the kyocera echo), but once I went to an iphone 5, I swore I'd never go back.
Once ios7 was out though, android started looking more appealing to me again. Moto X is the phone that brought me back! I've gone to the store multiple times to play with the GS4 and the HTC one, but I could never pull the trigger.
The Moto X is the phone that brought me back to android. I love it

I'm glad I'm not the only one. MOTO X is nice.
This phone with a few tweaks with Xposed is really really great. Battery is stellar. The camera is not the best however once the software is fixed it will be fine. The only thing I'm missing is t9 dialer. I'll find a way to push the CM apk.

I agree. I also tend to always have the latest and greatest and waffle between ios and android. Most recently I came from the HTC One Developer Edition and although I really liked that phone the Moto X is much better for me. The ergonomics are just great, not much bigger than an iphone 5, and the battery is very good. The active notifications are just brilliant and with them I rarely need to use the power button, just a quick swipe and I'm were I need to be. Killer phone.
Agreed. I had the HTC One and then the GS4 Active shortly after that and now I have the Moto X. This thing runs circles around both those phones in every regard. Don't miss a single thing about either of them.

Im also very picky in how I like my phone look and function both hardware/software. im still waiting for my moto x to get unlocked But so far I still need a new ROM.
Need to remove att garbage
Need quick toggles to be customizable. Add WiFi tethering/ flashlight etc. Also don't like how single click takes you to the menu on a specific toggle instead holding it toggles the feature.
Would like paranoid ROM, halo is a nice feature I got used to on my nexus 4
Id settle for quick toggles fix and halo (not that I have a choice) STOP SAYING YOU DONT NEED ROMS!!
That being said I like how minimalistic (ROM) Motorola is now and see myself buying more of their devices. Personally hate Samsung galaxy series. There is no need for a physical buttons on screen is the way to go.
Hope the moto x gets some good people working on Roms. I love the size of this phone and really want to stop jumping from phone to phone chasing that perfect combination. But my guess is the grass will always seems to be greener on the other side......nexus 5.

The icons and fonts are much smaller than a s4 screen. Especially when you factor in the on screen buttons the actual usable screen is much less than than I was expecting. In fact I am not to sure if it is much bigger than my iPhone 5.

After soft bricking my GS4, I had to get a new phone while i work on that. I had been eyeing the Moto X and it was cheap. But now that i have been playing with it for a few days, its great. For me the Software is great, I love the voice commands, coming from an iphone i sorely missed siri and I feel that Moto X realy handles this better then the GS4.
As for hardware, I miss my GS4. The bigger screen was nice, and I loved the IR blaster.
If I could get the Moto X Rom on to the GS4 ( after I unbrick it) that would be ideal.
I've been looking at this phone but the fact is Nexus 5 will be a better device in terms of hardware, software and future updates.
Also I love the people here saying this is the best phone they've ever used. I think they copy paste that from their post on their prior phones.
