[Q] Help! Warranty question for T-Mobile! - Networking

So I spoke with T-Mobile yesterday and they agreed to send me a new phone for exchange because of a faulty pin on my connector. I can charge my device but it will not detect a USB storage device when plugged in.
It just occured to me that I cannot ODIN to stock! Is there a method that does not involve a Phone to PC connection which will allow me to make this thing appear to be stock? (I am on custom rom and recovery obviously).
If not, what will happen to me if I just send in my current phone with the rom/recovery it is on? Do they actually check? My damage/issue is physical and not software related at all so would my warranty still be voided?
Any input would be immensely helpful! Thanks folks

Last time i sent an Android phone in, i accidentally forgot to remove the custom ROM!
They sent me the new phone, and I've never heard from them since

Cwm a stock nandroid image then maybe dd the stock recovery or find a flashable zip then format internal SD

This happened to me too. Out of desperation I used a toothbrush and just scrub the crap out of the port, and it worked! Worth a try

Got the same issue on my wifes GS2. I never rooted her phone, so at least I don't have to return it to stock. As far as I know, her USB port has never worked except for charging.

Holy chit

Next steps would be to somehow return to stock recovery and remove SU without ODIN.
How would I go about doing these?

[Q] restore to stock without usb?

Can anyone advise of a method to restore to stock DI01 without USB?
My usb is terminally inoperative (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898276) and I will have to restore to get warranty service.
Odin does not appear to be an option since it will not detect the phone. I can use adb over wifi, I can push files to the sd card. Everything works except usb.
Thanks in advance...
if i were you i would get on IRC and ask for help...
or if you have insurance... think about going that route...
sorry man that sux.
I dont know if you fixed it or not, but here is a stupid question. Are you using the cable that came with your phone? I have several cables that will only charge my phone and only the stock one enables data transfer. Hope this helps.

[Q] Return to Stock Without Odin

I am having a problem with my USB connection, it's gotten a bit warped...probably from all my rooting and Odining! I can charge with it, but my computer will not recognize it. I have the Total Equipment Protection, so I should be able to get this fixed, but I want to return to stock before bringing it in. I would Odin the phone, but at the moment, because of the USB issues, Odin is not recognizing the phone. I looked for links to flashing Stock without Odin in this forum, but they seem to be pretty old. Is there I flashable zip file I can use in CWM that will return my phone to the current unrooted stock rom?

I don't think. So. Even if you could get full stock your boot recovery will not be stock. But I could be wrong. Which end is bad the phone side or the usb side. You can always try a different port on your computer and see if that will work. Worst comes to worse. You can brick it and get one tell them that you was having charger issues and. And you went to plug your phone into the pc and you droped it and it wouldn't turn on.

The best you can do is flash the ReRFS ROM. It looks like stock but you will still have root, custom recovery and superuser. Plus you are stuck with whatever modem baseband you are on.

Doesn't the stock kernel remove root from ReRFS? I think I remember it doing so. Try it, there isn't much to lose. If that works you can just use the stock recovery .zip. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027904
Another thought: When my PC wouldn't recognize my Epic, I had to reinstall the Galaxy S drivers and then it worked with Odin. You can try that too.

Your best bet is that the cable is busted. That happened to me but I fixed it byyyyy going to sprint and paying 20 bucks for a cable with two ends. One for data, one for charging. Yes, charges 2 devices at one time.

Oh ok. Well, it definitely has power! Actually, I had a friend who had a similar problem. His phone was a vibrant, but they are pretty much the same phone. All-in-all, it was trial and error to get it detected. I would get it like maybe 1 out of 40 attempts? We finally returned him to stock via odin, but he ended up getting a replacement. Surely a hardware issue. The weird is though, the computer would only find the phone if it was in download mode? Anyways, keep your phone in download mode, and have odin open. First try to take the battery out, have the cable plugged into your pc, odin is still open, and put your battery in while holding the "1" button. It should boot in download mode, and MAYBE see the phone? Try that. Also, make sure the port you're connecting to (on your pc) is directly attached to the motherboard. Mess with different ports. Let me know if there's any luck.

Oh, it's a hardware issue. I used this cable, and this USB port on my computer, many times without issue until the other day. Even if I do get the phone to appear in Odin, I am not sure I want to flash it that way, as I am afraid I will lose the connection midway, and then where will I be? If I can run a zip file in CWM as mentioned in a post above that seems like a safer way to go, and it's easy enough to copy that to the SD card when it's out of the phone. I would like my phone to look normal before I bring it in. It will probably be a couple of more days before I do this, though. I am not ready to yet.

Yeah. You can flash a zip and return it to stock, but cwm will still be on there. The only way to return (officially) to stock would be to use odin. This would replace the custom recovery with the stock recovery. Depending on which modem you're on, you can flash a "stock" rom, and put tw launcher on it? As long as you have an updated backup, you can odin. Even if odin fails in the process, this will only soft-brick the device. And that is an easy fix. Just go into download mode and try again. Lol. My buddy with the vibrant had odin fail many times. We actually recovered from the "pc-phone" error screen. If you're getting a replacement, you must put it back to stock. Depending on which insurance/warranty service you're using, it is wise to play it safe. I highly recommend you get a replacement though. Just tell them you have a usb hardware issue.

USB Charging works, PC won't detect tablet at all.

My tablet has been working fine for as long as I can remember. It's unlocked and was running a rooted stock rom. All good so far.
I can charge the tablet fine. Thought I would try flashing Paranoid Android. Here's where my problems started.
Plugged the tablet into my PC to backup the contents of the storage, wasn't detected at all. No flicker of anything in device manager. Have hooked it up to a linux machine and watched the output of syslog to see if it was spotted there, but nothing.
Decided to not worry about backing up and did a full wipe, apart from system, to take it back to factory.
No difference.
Downloaded Paranoid Android via the browser and flashed it from CWM. Flashed fine, but still no USB.
Now I want to take it back to stock so I can send it back under warranty, but HOW?
Any bright ideas??
Is there any sort of USB drivers in your device manager relating to your tablet.
You need to remove those drivers, restart and re-plug.
If not, I'd try to download a flash zip, and flash it from the device itself, as you won't be able to flash it from PC if it doesn't recognise it.

The device is completely unrecognised via USB. Drivers don't even come into it.
Suggestions for where I can get a flash zip of the stock rom? As far as I can tell, it doesn't exist.
what about "fastboot devices" in fastboot mode?

Nope. Nothing. The USB port is completely useless for anything but charging now.
A friend has just flashed a stock image for me and sent me a nandroid backup of his tablet, going to try and get that onto it now.
And now I'm back with a stock rom, but custom recovery. Need to work out how to flash the stock recovery back from the recovery.img file.
All sorted. Used Flash Image GUI to flash the stock recovery.img back. Only thing I haven't been able to do is relock the bootloader, but I can't see that affecting my RMA.
They're picking it up in the next couple of days then should be no more than 10 days to get it back to me.

An unlocked bootloader is a voided warranty. In all likelyhood, they will reject the warranty validity and make you pay for repairs.

If you have changed the USB port check the connection at both ends of the ribbon cable if they are both OK then the motherboard is at fault. The nexus7 has the worst protective circuitry I've ever seen on a device so its easy to inadvertently damage the motherboard.

Mine is on its way back for 3rd for this very same issue. So we'll see what they repaired this time or if they just replaced it. Hopefully the latter because my warranty is now up. Do they have a warranty period on their repairs?

That is correct. I received it back yesterday & the replaced the mainboard again. This time they put in a 8G board instead of a 32G so it had to go right back. I am not sure if it ever be fixed, there is something going on. I should not have had to send it in 3 times for the some issue.

[Q] Possible Hard Brick? (URGENT)

A little background info:
ATT GS4, rooted and on stock firmware
Had TWRP 2.6.0.0 on my phone
Tried to flash Illusion 7|15 or 7|16?
---------------------------------------------------
In the past, I've tried to flash illusion, with some success. I was able to get to the homescreen, but when I flashed my data backup. The phone wouldn't boot, so I reverted to stock. A few weeks later, I decide to take another spin at the rom and get it working. I wiped the data/cache/dalvik, and flashed the rom with gapps, rebooted the phone, and nothing happens. The phone keeps vibrating, but there is nothing happening past that.
After a significant amount of research, I've found a few tools/advice. I've downloaded ODIN and the (disgustingly large) tar file, but it doesn't have any use if the phone cannot be recognized by the computer since I am unable to enter download mode or recovery mode.
I found another tool that is supposed to "resurrect" the phone provided by legija. The only unfortunate part is there are no instructions provided, and once again, my computer isn't recognizing the phone as a device, as if it wasn't plugged in to the usb port at all. The application asks for a port number, but I have no clue what relevance a port number has, or at least that a usb port has a numerical value.
Anyway, is there anything left for me to do or is this a fancy new paperweight?
Excuse me for any poor grammar, I'm a little antsy about this

I've seen the repeated vibrating issue before from flashing the wrong file. Download mode was still accessible. Try again by hooking up the phone to the USB slot without the battery in it. Hold Vol Down + Home while inserting the battery. See if download mode will come up. If it does, Odin may not fix it, and you may end up using KIES, and that's if it does go into Download mode.

Good deal man, glad you got a new one.
I have another question for somebody knowledgeable in rooting/rom flashing:
I think this was because the s4 bootloader is locked (through an update), would this cause the phone to hard brick? I've had nasty experiences in the past with locked bootloaders!
If it is locked, is there a way to unlock it? Or does it even need to be unlocked to flash a rom?
Thanks!

Your phone is ready to flash, just make sure the ROM you flash has been Lokied or you'd have to flash a Loki kernel/LokiDoki after flashing the ROM (but before rebooting).

If you are going to use TWRP, make sure the ROM has LOKI applied, and if it doesn't, flash the Loki_Doki patch last before rebooting.
If you use OUDHS recovery, it will Auto-Loki whatever you flash.

If you are going to use TWRP, make sure the ROM has LOKI applied, and if it doesn't, flash the Loki_Doki patch last before rebooting.
If you use OUDHS recovery, it will Auto-Loki whatever you flash.

What happens if one accidentally reboots before flashing Loki? Just need to reboot back into recovery and flash it?

Looking for help with broken screen

My girlfriends T mobile LG G2 D801 was dropped and the screen cracked and the digitizer only recognizes the left of the screen so she can not input her lock code. Being pretty android savvy I was hoping I could figure out a way to get CWM installed to be able to pull her pictures off the SD card for her. Unfortunately I can not connect to the phone through ADB since I can only assume she never turned USB debugging on because why would she? The phone is stock rom unrooted. I booted into the stock recovery and only have the option to wipe the phone which I would assume will wipe her sd card also. I booted into download mode and upgraded the recovery with the LG support tool for the hell of it. So obviously I'm able to install a new recovery that route but I cant find anyway to install CWM without a working screen or USB debugging already enabled. Does anyone have any suggestions? Bricking the phone trying isnt really a concern since it needs to be sent back to the insurance company anyway. Any help is appreciated.
I don't think you have to do all that work. What you can do instead is get a USB OTG Cable. Depending on how urgent it is, you can order it on eBay for a dollar OE two but it takes week to arrive. Or you can go to FRYS Electronic and get it for $5. Use the otg cable with a mouse to use the screen and upload all of the sd card to Google drive. Or you can make it so mtp is automatically enabled

Thanks, ill see if she can wait before it has to be sent back. So no way to flash a recovery in its state now?
Basically, it is hard to flash recovery without USB debugging or access to touch to be quite honest.

Thats what ive found also. Its too bad the lg tool cant be used to flash different recoveries like the samsung tool can.
