My first post, but I promise I have searched this forum to see if there is an answer to this question!
I'm having difficulty with Google Mail application on this device. I have Googlemail working fine in the pop/imap programme, but this does not seem to give all the functionality I want - for example being able to search all mails ever sent/received.
I therefore downlaoded and installed (twice) the Google Mail application. When prompted I changed the install folder from "Root" to "Applications". It installed fine, and can be run from the "run application now" link which appears at the end of the installation process.
However when I want to run the application again, or set a shortcut to it on my home screen it is nowhere to be found!
Am I doing something stupid? Can anyone help?
Thanks
Start Java.
It's a java app and doesn't put a shortcut to any installed java applets into the standard start menu.
There's a shortcut called JBLEND in startmenu tools folder (about halfway down) to start java
Thanks for that - found it and it works. Really annoying though that I can't get an icon for it. Strikes me a little anti-competitive of Microsoft to do that! I had an icon fine for it on my old Nokia.
Let's hope a fix comes along.
Thanks very much

Huh? That makes no sense.
Why do you use java app on Windows Mobile, better is use gmail via active sync? Emails, contacts, calendar?
http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=winmo
ok... I have activesync tied up with work's echange server... I normally use the Java Gmail app. However smy latest attempts to install, say the install .jad file is corrupt...
I am install directly from the website... gmail.com/app
I am using IE not opera to navigate there, the install link appears, however it gets half way through the install and then advises me the install program is corrupt...
since I have never had this problem before, I would guess it is more likely something to do with the Java client in my Laurentius ROM... anyone have any hints on how to get the app installed correctly?

Hi
.. Since i think the progress of connecting phone, put apk file on sd card, disconnecting phone, browsing phones sd card for the apk file for then to install it is annoying ..
So I've made a quick batch file to quickly drag and drop files to install
Lets get started.
1- Download the attached zip. Should look something like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2- Extract using your favourite extraction program or using windows explorer.
You should now have a folder like this one:
3- Thats actually it !
What you can do now is:
Put the apk file inside the folder "Android app installer" and run the "Drag and drop files here" file (remember the ".apk" suffix)
OR
the easier way is to right click on the "Drag and drop files here" file and choose Send to, then click Desktop (As shortcut). From there. you can, any time, just drag any apk file from any directory to the "Drag and drop files here" file. and it will install it directly.
BEFORE YOU GET STARTED YOU HAVE TO DO THIS:
1- Enable USB-Debugging on your phone
2- Connect your phone to your computer
Log:
-V 1.1 (Filename: "Android app installer v1.1.zip"):
Closes after you have installed file. doesnt ask for filename after installation.
-V 1.0 (Filename: "Android app installer.zip"):
Released
I have several batch files associated with .apk files (windows).
As an example, Installing an apk is as simple as right-clicking on the apk and choosing "install"

Thank You OP :good:
I was looking for an easy installation of a command prompt for my windows mobile device (I keep it around as a hobby device) and I could not find a clear, concise, not to mention easy setup. So, I decided to create one of my own. I have assembled a modified version of the command prompt power toy, and a registry toggle script into one convenient installer. Instructions are included below:
Prerequisites:
Windows Mobile 2003, 5.0, 6.0, 6.1
MortScript - For the Toggle
Instructions:
After installation, delete the "setup.dll" files, you don't need them
Next, when activating the progeram, you must first select the "CMD Toggle" shortcut in the "Command Line" Folder
in your "Start Menu/Programs" subfolder - this will toggle the registry, and allow you to display the command line
Then, you may select the "Command Line" shortcut, and enjoy!
After exiting the Command Line, select the "CMD Toggle" shortcut once more to toggle the command line off, this will
prevent the command line from displaying at awkward moments, when commands are being issued to your device.
This setup has been tested/working on a Delll AXIM X51v, running a customized version of LennySH's WM6.1 ROM
with enhancements, and a SIP from VGAKeyboard.
2013 EDIT: I recently got back to this idea, and I have found a couple programs commonly used in the command line: Ping, and IPConfig. Just place the contents of the attached ZIP in the "WINDOWS" directory, and you will be able to invoke these through the command line.
Happy Hacking

Install directly into your device's memory.
opening mscr file error
"... Next, when activating the progeram, you must first select the "CMD Toggle" shortcut in the "Command Line" Folder

After running CMD Toggle I get a "No application associated" error. How can I run a .mscr file ?
First of all, thanks for your application. It works fine on a very old i-mate 9502 of mine. Nevertheless, please, if possible, turn the fonts much bigger, or, at least with their sizes selectable, because on a 2.8" screen it is virtually impossible for an old man to read anything.
MortScript Needed!

You must have MortScript installed first...
You can get it Here: http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=download&action=list&entry=18

I think you'll need to adjust your device's resolution manually... I have made no changes to the size of the displayed text.

The fonts shown in your app top bar are fine. The tiny fonts are shown on the open terminal window; command iputs echoes and outputs from the system are really small. No other cab files I installed so far produce such small texts. Thanks, anyway.
cmd.exe uses system font. If not content with its size / shape, then you have to change system's font settings.
I got my S8+ today and set up has been a breeze. However, I want to set up some ring tones but can't find them! The Settings Sounds option just takes me to a directory listing and the Ringtones directory has just one file. Am I missing something? Where's the usual list of tones?
Thanks

Yep, just what I am looking for....
Settings > sounds and vibration > ringtones.
If you don't see them, I would factory reset your phone

Looked there. I have just spent all day building the phone. I can't bear the thought of a factory reset ?
Backup your phone, factory reset, then restore. That'll work in theory lo l

Just found a zip file with the ring and notification tones and have loaded them. However, the zip file also contained a directory called "UI" with a load of sound files but there is no such directory on the phone. Any ideas where these files should go?
OP probably run into same stupid problem as I did: first time I changed ring tone, it gave me option to pick file manager, I picked wrong one, which didn't have access to system files and was set as default. From now on everytime I want to change ringtone, I get root directory with empty ringtone folder. Going to default to reset it didn't help, that particular default was not listed in there. I had to uninstall the es file manager to get the option to choose default apps again and the one with Android icon is the right one with proper access. Once you do that it will work. I absolutely hate Android access folder restrictions, can't wait to root this stupid phone so it works the way it should. I also changed settings for default apps: most default apps don't show up in default apps menu, how am I supposed to change them? Now I have option to run it once, test it and then later set as default, if I want to. And why ringtone folder has restricted access is totally beyond me.
Thank you pete4k. I had the same problem and you pointed me to the solution. I didn't have to uninstall ES file manager, though. I just went to Settings/Apps/ES File Manager Pro/Set as Default and pressed the "Clear Defaults" button.

I'm glad my post pointed you in the right direction and yes, that should work too.
Ringtone folder was empty
Tried looking everywhere file explorer, where did the built in folder of ringtone just shown empty. Beyond my understandment.
All i did was set a new ringtone from my selected music, & all built in ringtone in samsung disappeared.
Thanks to pete solution worked. Im trying to click thanks but its greyed out. So i register & logged in especially to do that.
Solution as described go to settings app es explorer clear defaults.
Then went back to settings selected ring tone it asked me choose es explorer or green android bar ( original android ) selected original android. Simply got all builtin ringtones back, as well as my mp3 ringtone was automatically added to built in list.
Much thanks couldnt do it without this help.
Some problems are beyond underst.
Very quick solution. But took time to get here.
Thanks to google, this forum & mr pete once again
On my Galaxy S8, I was using Total Commander instead of ES File Explorer, so I ended up finding the actual directory: /system/media/audio/ringtones and /system/media/audio/notifications.
