Hi all,
I've an HTC Wildfire with a SD card of 32 GB (class 5 or 6) and I'm trying to find a rom that can satisfy all my needs. I've tried the most common rom for wildfire, but I haven't find yet the rom fit for me
Here a list of my needs:
- Good interactive gallery.
- Good camera app.
- Thethering from wifi.
- Install the apps on the sd card.
Here is what I've recently tested:
CyanogenMod-7 Nightly Builds for vendor Buzz (only release #9):
- Thethering with wifi works fine
- Bad gallery: slow and does not work as expected.
- Bad camera app: pictures quality is less than the HTC camera app.
- No apps on sd: using app2sd, at rebot the applications in sd just disappeared.
I tried darktremor patch and Link2SD app but does not work at all.
CyanogenMod-7 Nightly Builds for vendor Buzz (greater than #9)
Tried some other release and all of them get stuck.
CyanogenMod-7 for HTC Wildfire (Buzz) :: V7.0.0-RC2
Does not work. Really slow and really often get stuck.
DK Custom Froyo V4.3.6 (Froyo 2.2.1) Stable & Smooth
-Nice camera
-Nice gallery
Unfortunately some time get stuck.
WildPuzzleROM_2.2.1 v0.8, New Base, Transparent Lockscreen, LWP in SENSE
Using HDCR jacob kernel.
(the currently I'm using)
-Nice camera
-Nice gallery
-Thethering does not works (all other devices cannot connect), I've tried also with other application.
-Link2SD does not work, darktremor as always give me the same error that cannot copy the dalvik cache.
Please can anyone suggest me a rom that works fine and has all this 4 features.
Thank you really much.
Apps2SD definitely works on WildPuzzle, because, I was using it, and, it worked very well. Probably, you are doing something wrong. There are some guides around here which state how to install it, just search for it. Here's one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12398752&postcount=22
Wi Fi tethering will work if you use the kernel 0055 from the OLD Wildpuzzle thread. Again, Just search for it.
- Quickpic
- Miui Camera (i posted a thread in the app section), Vignette, Camera 360 Pro
- tethering works on cm7 and on wildpuzzle
- darktremor app2sd works on cm7 consistently for me. Which means, you don't know what you're doing, you're just doing it wrong. (have you even tried flashing jacob's 4.1 kernel..?)
I suggest you just stay with a sense rom since aosp gives you so much trouble rolleyes, i'd recommend wildpuzzle or sunaabh.
easiest way to install dtapp2sd
1. flash it
2. boot into recovery and mount system
3. on terminal, cd into your sdk tools folder
4. type adb shell
5. type /system/bin/a2sd reinstall, then it will reboot. then go back to recovery and do /system/bin/a2sd cachesd
or
1. flash it
2. boot into phone
3. open terminal emulator
type 'su', then type a2sd cachesd

apps2sd works fine on cm7. you're doing something wrong. Get nightly #30, its very stable. for the gallery, use quickpic from the market. camera quality is equal to sense roms, only the interface is ugly. you can try the miui camera in the themes and apps section.

does this system function also with the sunabah?
I've installed the rom sunabah, boot into phone, turn off the phone, flash the dtapp2sd but then the phone does not make the boot (I've seen for about 30 minutes the HTC logo...)
remove the battery, boot into recovery mode and flash another rom (DK)... and it is ok.
Do you know why and the solution?
I just got my NC and decided to give this a try instead of buying a N2A card.
Android Version 2.3.7
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Mod Version CyanogenMod-7.1.0-encore
build Number GWK74
ClockworkMod 3.2.0.1
When I initially booted off the memory card everything was smooth until gapp. It loaded but when it came to selecting the apps when I clicked on one it flashed and just continued to set up. It didn't let me select any. No big deal because it worked fine.
I had force close issues so I ran Fix Permissions through ROM Manager and this seemed to help except for a few apps.
I used LCDDensity and changed that to 161 with Kill All which cleared up my force close issues on Words With Friends and Tweetcaster.
I get on today and notice videos are now missing from the market main screen and apps that I had yet to install are now no longer compatible with my device. They were last night but I was picking and choosing what I wanted on here. Why the sudden change? I rebooted the device just a few minutes ago and now the sudden change.
I also read about clearing davlik cache but how do you do this? I am not a programmer or developer so I have no clue. I have spent hours reading here everyday since Christmas and my mind is melting. I tried rebooting into recovery but I do not get the option to do anything. The penguin appears and a few things scroll down the screen and it reboots. I tried using the emulator and that won't work either unless I am typing something in wrong.
Are there any other tweaks or things I need to do to keep things stable and running smoothly? Are their certain things I need to clear regularly i.e. davlik cache, application cache or data?
I appreciate all the hard work and the time everyone puts into this. Please help. Like I said I need kindergarten instructions. Thank you.
First off, I've never had much success running from uSD. Even as far back as NookieFroyo. Once I made the move to running from eMMC most of my issues disappeared.
Davlik can be wiped from the Advanced selection when you boot to CWM as can Fix Permissions.
If you are going to run from SD then it is highly advisable to use a Sandisk Class 2 or 4 card. The brand does make a difference and others have found that other makes lead to slow downs and instabilities.
I would also recommend starting again following the veryGreen SD install method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
and using the MiRaGe KANG ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344873
This is CM7 but with the latest improvements including kernel adding to stability and performance.
Also, never use Windows to format your uSD. The format utility in Windows can (and does) screw up the format. Use this freebie. Has always worked well for me. You would be surprised how many problems that involve uSDs are traced back to a bad format.
I used LCDDensity and changed that to 161

Setting to 161, you are asking for more issue.
Suggestion: set it back to 160.

How do I get to the Advance section and boot to CWM? When I try it through ROM Manager the device restarts with the penguin and after a few lines it says the system is ****ting down. It does not give me any menu options.

I read that this was recommended and when I do it my apps that have issues work and they work well. No more force close issues.
Thanks for the advice guys. Like I said I have no experience with any of this. I am learning though and love to tinker with things and figure out how they work.

To update the ROM on an SD card install power down, remove card then you put the card back onto the PC and copy the new ROM zip onto it but named as update-cm-*.zip. Put the card back in the Nook and power up with N button pressed until you see the screen flash. Choose reboot recovery and the new zip will be installed.
However, if you are doing a major ROM switch and haven't invested too much time installing apps etc yet then I would recommend just doing the VeryGreen install from the beginning to get a clean install.
I did a clean install and so far things are working well. Base off of the veryGreen install are there any "must have" settings or tweaks I need to do to keep things smooth? Any nook or CM7 apps you guys would recommend. I know it has been answered 50,000 times but I am losing sleep reading the forums here.
Thanks again for the help and your patience.
There are so many of apps that suitable for each individual personality, for me:
+ news: usatoday, bbc
+ sport: Y!spectacular, mobile sport
+ movie: flixter, moviefone
+ picture viewing: quickpic (must have)
+ time: clocksync (must have)
+ file navigate: file expert (must have), astro file manager
+ player: rockplayer
+ ebook: Mantano (recommended)
+ weather: fancy widget
+ web browser: Opera (like better), dophin HD
+ calculator: TI-83/86 emulators, also mortgage cal. and real science cal.
+ game: none
+ sex pos.: forget the name
+ few others that occasionally use.
Every one gets their own favorite apps to suit their interests. I personally go for ES file explorer for general file navigation and accessing my computers' shares wirelessly, Dolphin HD browser for the gesture navigation, moboplayer for playing media, and QuickPic for photo viewing.
But don't forget Nook Tweaks. This allows you to tweak the kernel and benefit from some of the good things in there that distinguish the Dalingrin CM7 kernel. Like overclocking to get a really good boost in performance (most people go for 1200MHz max for stability), undervolting to stretch the battery a bit, audio settings to make the stock feeble audio considerably louder (set DAC boost about 50%), and USB hosting if you want to connect USB peripherals.

Really? You are sure it's CWM 3.2.0.1? When you boot to recovery you don't get a Menu? If not, methinks your CWM is hosed. Have to say I do not ever recall not getting a CWM Menu. Nor can I call up seeing a "penguin"?
Have to say also ROM Manager is quirky at best. Used it a long time ago and found that it whacked my NC. Uninstalled and never used again. Found it was incompatible with other devices.
You might consider a new uSD install.

I'm not using SD CM7 currently myself but my recollection when I did is that the recovery is not a full clockwork but a stripped down one just designed to install update zips. As such you don't get the full menu and operation from ROM manager isn't going to work properly.

I downloaded nook Tweaks as well.

So I have done a clean install of veryGreen exactly as posted except that I have the latest stable instead of a nightly. So do I simply download that ROM file and do as you stated for MiRaGe Kang? Just asking because on that link there is a bunch of different things listed and I get kind of lost. All I need is the ROM file and follow what you said quoted above?
Thanks again.
I tried renaming the file but it says the name cannot contain * so what am I doing wrong. Searched the forums and can't find the answer.

The * is just shorthand for any name. You can't include * in the actual name as it is a wildcard character that matches any part of a name. The important part is that the new name starts with update-cm- so you can just put that on the front of the MiRaGe zip (which is all you need).
Thank you. I figured it out kind of. I downloaded that ROM and followed the instructions and rooted my nook which I did not want to do. I wanted to dual boot off the memory card. It is all a learning experience.
I did a factory restore and all was good again. Started fresh and was going for a new verygreen install and my memory card slot no longer locks the card in. I am so thankful I had completed the factory reinstall. My wife went to B&N today and exchanged it for me with no issue.
So for now I think I will stick to the verygreen install and tweak it to my liking until something stable for ICS comes about.
Thanks for your patience and help. Some really good people here helping out.
Hi There
I installed the Hyperdroid CM7 - 5.8.0 yesterday and everything seems to work fine so far, only issue is when installing apps.
Suddenly got an out of memory warning, when i look in the app screen i can see 7.9Mb used and 3.4 free, seem to be missing some memory here.
When i check in phone details i get 214Mb available out of 410Mb. Did i mess up when installing the ROM?

Hello everyone I flashed the new CM7 update recently and after that no matter what I do I get this error. I don't usually write for help, usually I find my answer from google and try everything, but I guess I already did that I'm really desperate, please help me I've tried everything...
- Reflashing Gapps
- Clearing the Market (and associated apps) Cache
- Fixing Permissions
- Wipe Data, Deleting Dalvik Cache
- Installing the latest Market (installs, but the error still remains)
- Replacing market related apk files with root explorer manually
- Formatting everything, re-flashing rom, re-flashing google apps (and all of the above after that) and still no go
I'm using the latest nightly PLEASE HELP! I've never screwed that bad before
P.S.: Info about my phone in the signature!

Thank you so much for your reply! Maybe it is.
- Unfortunately noone else reported it in the time being, thus meaning it's not.
- Fortunately I haven't tried flashing a stable release in a long time... probably never so It's a must to give it a try! Maybe even an older Stable release (still cm7 though). I'll wipe everything, flash it and if it's good I'll backup and upgrade to the latest again, if the problem comes up again - you were right, I'll restore the backup and wait for the next release, if not... even better, thanks again! Didn't thought of that.
In the mean time other suggestions are accepted as well, I'll report later what happened!
I dont think this is related to rom. I cleared the data and cache of google play a couple of days ago. It started force closing after that. Tried reflashing, uninstalling the update and even advanced restore of system (as I replaced vending.apk with another one) but it didnt solve it. At the end I did a full restore of my nandroid which solved the problem..

Hm nice to know, unfortunately I've lost my nandroid backup... (it was on my flash drive, the next moment it's gone...) Could you possibly back up your market with TB and share the backup file from your SD card? Or at least send it via PM :?

Banging my head against the wall here, but I feel I'm getting close! It turns out it's some kind of permissions problem (tried fixing permissions about 100 times) still no go.
Here's a log cat from the market on a clean brand new installed CM7 nightly (latest again):
Code:
06-04 01:27:33.952 W/PackageManager(229): Unknown permission com.android.vending.permission.UPDATE_MARKET_FAILURE in package com.android.vending.updater
Anyone knows how to fix this? The device is currently formated from head to toes. Gonna install a different ROM on it tomorrow and swap Cyanogen after that =/ Hope this helps, cuz I'm running out of options here.
EDIT: OMG Just tried the splash mod after wiping everything... SAME PROBLEM :O I guess the problem is in gapps? or my sdcard maybe... or CWM I have no idea...

I run the latest Nightly Build after I really needed to use my video camera as that does not work on Erwin's ICS for now. No issue with my Market but one thing that could cause this is your MTD partition. I use 180 20 on the latest build (Nothing added, nothing removed in the ROM). Hope it helps.

MY F***ING HERO!!! After 4 days... 4 miserable days...!!!
Moral of the story - You shouldn't set 150MB for the ROM and 10 for the Cache partition
Just to make sure I set 250 for the rom and 40 for the cache (like the original partitions of the wildfire) - voala... Now I'm gonna lower them, but it's good to finally see where the problem was. One beer from me dude! /Changing the topic name now
Final Decision: Rom:160 Cache:20 works like a charm.
Glad to hear you solved the problem. My internet went down yesterday so I couldnt reply you.

Guys - you make it sound like breeze to change the MTD partition?!? I have now used several days searching the net to try to figure out how to do this - but with no luck. All I've benne able to figure out, is that my Galaxy Gear has MMCBLK type partition and not MTD. But can you please explain to me how to change it?

Hi all, I seem to have a bit of a problem, this is not to a perticular rom but all that I have tried
The problem is, when the battery goes flat and the phone goes off all data, apps and some system files disappear, if I power off and restart/ remove battery( not tried for long) system starts OK
Have I missed something when installing?
Using clk to install
Partition size is at 5/200/5 recommended by rom
Device is EU HD2
Many thanks

in cLK did you enable the ExtROM option? enabling this causes data loss on reboot.
otherwise try using Power off then start phone instead of doing a Reboot from Android, sometime ago I had issues and rebooting caused data loss.

I had the same problem as yours, this is happening due to bad blocks on your nand.
My solution:
Installed clk black edition by kokkotas (you can find the latest version here http://www.mediafire.com/?nhyausx0p5whu#tzg7whl9wwaih )
from within clk menu formated all partitions which also marked bad blocks as not used.
Try that and let me know.
btw 8 bad blocks = 1 MB so make sure you leave more space for the partitions
garymeg, if you have been on XDA since 2006, surely you know the difference between this section and the Android Q & A section?
