Maybe People aren't addressing this because there's nothing that can be done about it because it's part of the hardware or they don't wanna point out how bad this mistake was by Samsung with their lack off attention to the video/audio quality.
Every video so far has been absolutely atrociousness when it comes to sound quality in a video. Almost make me want to wait for the next device on tmobile.. it's the reason i couldn't stand HTC phone and now samsung farts out a turd like this.
Not crying about it ( i truly want to) lol but I would like to know if it's possible for it to be fixed.. anyone else irked by this?

It's hardly an important issue for the majority of users.
What's the in-call quality like anyway? If the person on the other end can hear you nice and clear then there's no reason the video can't record decent audio too.

Can't see why they would be different, they both use the same microphone do they not? It's just the method of recording that may differ. That is something that could most probably be modified though.

I believe both the international and the US version both use the same audio chip (I could be wrong) so it should indeed be voodoo compatible.
Some folks are saying the poor video audio is due to the noise cancellation microphone being engaged during a non-phone call situation when it should not be. Any truth to this ? The One X also shares this same fault -

so strange because the Evo LTE has very good video audio recording quality.. the video is shaky but the audio that comes from it is far better than the S3.. i wish someone could possible deactivate the noise cancellation feature and then record to see if that helps.

mine sounds like ****
I literally have to lower the volume for it to sound descent
now this realy pisses me off, its a $580 dollar device and the speakerphone sucks
whats weird is that it only sucks on speakerphone, because it rings and plays music fine. its only the speakerphone
can anyone test theirs and lmk how it sounds?
Yes, the speaker phone is horrible. When listening music is barely okay, but when on phone call with it...it's a nightmare!
Carnt they fix it with a software update?
Mine sounds ok depending on the person on the other end, my parents landline sounded fine but my friends cell sounded pretty distorted.
Yeah the speaker phone is pretty shocking...I was surprised. How do these things get past the product testing phase!!

There are some issues with the Focus I don't think has to do with WP7. First being when you plug in headphones or speakers to the jack after removing them you have to soft reset in order to play music, videos from phone speaker. Another is the camera settings don't stay saved.
My question is; is Samsung good about Firmware updates to fix these types of issues?
Camera settings resetting is a WP7 thing by design.
Not sure about the headphone thing, though.

Is this for real? I so, what kind of dummy came up with that idea?
When I complained about the inability to keep the screen on (which annoys me to no end) I was told buy Samsung that it was a confirmed issue and was being worked on "as we speak" This was about a month ago. I really hope this is part of a firmware update soon.
Well, given how bad they've been about getting updates out for Android, I would not expect much out of Samsung specifically. Hopefully, I'm wrong for being cynical.
Samsung has always been really bad for getting firmware updates out for its phones in time.
Luckily, for WP7, Microsoft will take over the duty of getting firmware/OS updates out, not Samsung. So, if it is an OS issue, you're looking for Microsoft for updates, not Samsung.

LOL...I've thought the same thing. It's a bug. Why? Because every other camera phone on the planet saves the settings you choose. Some of them even offer a quick change profile setup. So it's a bug. And it's never going to be fixed when people say it's "by design". Like all the rest of the bugs and shortcomings in this phone. If people are happy with what they have now, great, get out of the way. I didn't drop $500 to buy a low end Nokia with a large screen.
I believe the list of changes for the next update includes saving the camera settings. Agree with above: very bad design.
I have a Samsung Intrepid that after I did a firmware upgrade right from Sprint, the phone basically went in the trash. Everything was messed up after. I'm getting my fingers crossed it does not happen with this phone!
And there WAS NO way of going back either, thanks to Sprint or Samsung.

That problem must be specific to your own phone. I can't reproduce it.
I have the Samsung Captivate also, and between Samsung and ATT we still don't have an official 2.2 update.
Not sure who's fault it is but they are both jack holes if you ask me. I wouldn't count on MS for rapid updates either until they start to deliver them.
Balmer said they want rapid updates to bring the platform up to pace. I hope he doesn't mean 2 updates a year as "rapid".
We will see.

Was the game CrackDown2? It does that to mine. Does removing headphones turn your mic off when trying to voice search? It will work if you plug the samsung headphones back in and talk through them but not from the handset mic. This is a know issue for many to maybe all Focus owners.

NO! The sky is BLUE! Not aqua, not turquoise, BLUE! What, do you write "answers" on Microsoft's so-called official forums or something where everything is "by design"? Truth is that is does not do what just everybody expects it to do. Most people would call that a bug no matter how techies would split it. So let's go with the majority and call it what it is.
I have tried to look for some threads regarding noise cancellation but the only ones i found were recommendations and questions about it.
I am sorry but I feel the urge to open this thread and at the same time surprised by the fact this thread has not been created before.
I constantly get people claiming they can hear background noises almost at the same level as they can hear my voice. It seems like every time I walk down the street, any background noises (bus, cars, people shouting, music, etc) are being passed onto the other person's line. It also holds for when I am at home with friends and someone calls me, the person on the other line claims he can hear practically every word my friends are talking about as if he is on speaker phone.
Also, connecting my Nexus S to my bluetooth speaker in my car is almost not possible as people claim they hear me as if i'm in a 'space shuttle'. I can confirm that its not the bluetooth speaker as I used to have a Blackberry and never had any issues.
Anyone experiences it as well? knows about someone developing a solution for it? or is it just me hallucinating here
This is a widely known problem and unfortunately there seems to be no fix in sight. Samsung does not use a secondary noise cancelling microphone like in the Nexus 1 and their software noise cancellation is simply garbage. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the brilliant devs can figure out a way to improve the noise cancellation with some kernel magic.

"their software" .... you mean Google's software? Samsung doesn't touch the firmware whatsoever. They just provide the hardware in coalition with Google.
Simple solution (albeit it costs money). Get a noise cancelling bluetooth device. I have a blueant t1 and I never get background noise complaints. People don't even realize I'm riding on the highway. I wouldn't put too much hope it the devs doing a whole lot with noise cancellation because there's only so much software can do, since the phone lacks the hardware for true noise cancellation.
This has been posted a few times when the phone first released. There's no fix unfortunately, and a deal breaker for some. In noisy places the call quality seems to suffer from the software noise cancel function.
What noise cancellation? Yea, its quite a change from the Nexus One. People hear EVERYTHING that goes on in the background.
You can do a lot of noise cancellation with software only. There are numerous examples of excellent software solutions for noise cancellations.

Not for the Nexus S, but other companies have had successful software noise cancellation - for example Motorola CrystalTalk. As for noise on the Nexus S, I've asked friends and my wife when calling from stores, parking lots, in the car with tunes playing, etc., and they all say background noise is virtually non-existant. And I sound just fine as well. I've noticed that people can hear the music in the car when I'm not talking, but as soon as I start to talk the music is silenced. Calls to my own voicemail line confirms this.
Perhaps it has something to do with firmware versions? I have stock 2.3.3 pre-installed, no root.
it may be possible to noisegate out sounds below a certain level which depends on the mean amplitude level of a range of frequencies common to the voice. in otherwords, calculating the average amplitude the voice is, and removing anything significantly below that amplitude.
however without a second out-of-phase microphone, results wouldn't be all that great and would be processor intensive.
interesting project i may look at some time in the future.

I'm not sure weather CrystalTalk stands for a specific feature on Motorola's ROMs but if its a software, on Android, couldn't it be ported to other ROMs?
btw, I'm running NScollab 1.0.17 but always experienced such issues, even when I was on stock 2.3.3 pre-root.
I was not looking for Nexus S. Simply trying to prove a point that software noise cancellation is doable and working great. BTW, the developers of such software can easily port it to different platforms since it does not rely on specific hardware.

hardware limitations. supercurio was essentially able to develop voodoo for wolfson dac based devices as the defects back then were software based and were solved by rewriting some of the buggy code.
The yamaha dac used in SGSII meanwhile has some critical hardware flaws that can only be resolved at the production/design level by the manufacturer. As an independent user just like the rest of us, all supercurio can do now is to feedback his findings to yamaha and hope they resolve the issues in future batches of their dac...
That's basically what I gather from supercurio's twitter posts and his reasoning for not pursing voodoo sound on the SGSII.
I wonder though if the color banding seen on the sgs2 is also caused by the sharpness filters mentioned in the voodoo project.
I sold the S2 and went back to the original Galaxy S with voodoo sound mod.
The difference is day and night ...... and the Galaxy S has far far more volume for driving headphones.
I did prefer the S2 screen and camera, but the sound was just truly horrible. With no prospect of a sound fix on the Yamaha card and no word of a volume boost there was no point going on with the S2.
Sadly, if playing music is a priority then the S2 is not for you!

Volume+ boosts the volume fine on my SGS2....
All volume+ does is rack up all the frequencies on the system EQ and it sounds terrible.
Enable Volume+ then look at the curve it sets with the equalizer app. It's not a volume boost as such rather an EQ boost that makes the distortion worse!
Keith
FWIW I don't find the sound that bad on the SGS2 using Classic Equaliser and Normal sound effect... yes it could be a touch louder, but it compared OK with my Sony NWZ-S639 walkman which was highly regarded for its sound quality a couple of years back, I also had an iphone 4 beforehand.
I'm not saying the SGS2 is perfect for audio playback, far from it, but it is COMPLETELY blown out of proportion on here.
Bit of a noob question here but I'm finding it difficult to find clear info on this.
I've just switched from an iPhone 3G to the SGS2 and the volume on the SGS2 (with every band maxed in the equaliser) is only about 2/3 of what my iPhone maxed was outputting (nothing too scientific - I just listened to the same track on my SGS2 as my iPhone with the SGS2 headphones).
From reading this I get the impression that this is the highest volume I'll ever be able to get from the SGS2 because the audio hardware is kinda lousy - is that right? Or is there any other way I can boost the output?
Sometimes i think I'm crazy; I'm using the S2 with the lowest possible volume output with my custom molded earphones (almost no resistance) but even with high resistance headphones (eg. a 300ohm beyer dynamic) it's still more then loud enough for me. What bothers me though it that the dac chip is just crap soundwise, low on stereo seperation and an enormous boost for midrange tones; as if the headphone output is meant to be used as a headset for crips and loud talks.
My desire hd had a better sound output (which was still louzy).
can any one shed some light on service mode *#197328640# i read somewhere online but could not find any difference....
[5]audio > [3]WB > ....headset...
This depends on the headphones I can't go Anywhere near half on the sgs its just too loud. If your using high resistance headphones get an amp ?

This is a community after all and the sgs2 screen is more modable than sgs1 because we already have ''background effects'' that we can change

Hey guys,
Just wondering...is there a mod to get 1080p recording on our MT4G via interpolation??? I've noticed applications and/or updates to other Android devices that allow for 1080p recording from 720p.
Is this at all possible for our device? Could a camera.apk be developed with 1080p capabilities?
Would love to hear everyone's input..
Times like these, I wish I had the knowledge of a dev so I could help develop ideas into solutions
Hardware limitation.
No mod that I know of.
My 2cents is that I am pretty sure that trying to do that via sw would require some very serious processing and doubt it could be done wo dropping frames, at least on the device...
Realize that you would also be losing quality when doing that. even if you did it off the device with sw conversion tool.
Short answer: No
Our hardware only allows for 720p recording. Anything that tries to do 1080p will crash, like the Amaze camera mod when it's set to 1080p.
You can't get the HW to record in 1080p.
All the attempts to convert 720p to 1080p will only drop the quality of the recording.
Why would you want your phone to record with higher resolution (even if it was theoretically possible), but lower frame rate and quality? The end result is a movie that you'll be seeing, and this movie's quality isn't in its resolution. Just for bragging rights? I think you need to rethink the reasons for your request.

720p on a phone was new tech when this phone was released. It was almost the main selling point until they changed the release name from MyTouch HD to MyTouch 4G at the last minute. All technology becomes obsolete. That's the nature of it. Would you prefer it cease advancement?

No, that is not what I was implying either. Neither would I prefer advancement to slowdown accordingly to match my budget. That is why I was griping about PLANNED obsolescence. Nevermind...
