[Q] Can't create google Account - Windows 8 General

Hey,
I'm running Win8 Release Preview on my Netbook eeePC 1000H.
Everything is running smooth, but I can't add a google account. Not in mail, not in the calendar.
in Maill: It gives me an error when I try to login. Password is correct. I also tried @googlemail.com instead if @gmail. No difference.
In Calendar: If I select "Accounts" it opens, I see my Windows Live account for about a second, then the menu switches back.
Any ideas?

for mail, have you already logged in with your system account? (IE, windows live id?) if not, you have to do that first then you should be about to connect the gmail account.
for Calendar, im not sure. just went in and it doesn't show where to add an account for me.

gmail
-Open Charms Bar (Windows key + C)
-Select Settings ---> Change PC settings
-Open Ease of Accsess
-Turn off ----> Tab through webpages and app using care browsing
Now you can add gmail and much else that did not work.
Cheers

Windows Live Help, please

When I run Windows Live, I only see "Messenger" and "Sync", although the info page claims that Hotmail, contacts etc are installed.
How do I get onto Hotmail?
Please can some-one help a damsel in distress, as I am starting to get rather frustrated with this device.
from touch flo screen, scroll across to the email envelope. There you should see your hotmail email.
I can see my normal pop email account (which I have set up, and is working), but there is no hotmail account.
Are there any special setup parameters that I should be using?
No, it is automatic. Have you gone into windows live itself and checked the settings. Did you check the option sync email? You can always try again - just delete your account (the option is in one of the Live menus).
Thank you so much, Ardsar. I had failed to click the Sync emakil option.
It's now working. Cheers.

Multiple Google accounts on one G1

Hi
I have 2 Google Apps accounts (one personal and one work)
From what I can tell, you can only sign in with one account into Android and to access the other Mail i will have to use IMAP. Fair enough, i can live with that. But i'm not sure i can live without both cals or google talk on both (or any other aspects which I have yet to check on, such as lattitude, although I cant actually find latitude on my maps app.)
Is there a way of
* syncing more than 1 calendar?
* logging into more than one account in google talk (IM app or others) as when you access the IM prog it brings up a page which looks like it should list all of the accounts you want to access... which, if you cant access more than 1, is a little pointless from what i can make out.
I dont suppose cupcake makes any of this possible does it?
cheers
Hi,
I know that the calendars can be done.
I have several google and apps accounts.
The account you use as the primary needs
to be given FULL access to the other calendar.
Go to the secondary account and do the sharing
and access stuff. I had to dig around a little for
the right procedure in the google help forums. Once
your primary user can edit events on the web for the
secondary calendar then all should be well. Remember
to color code them. I am currently working with three
calendars. They all will show up as one and color coded.
You can't open separate instances for each calendar.
When you add an event on your phone you get a dropdown
to choose which calendar to add it to.
K9 Mail (free app on the Market) is an excellent client that supports multiple IMAP/POP3 accounts.
For calendar sync, it's a little more trickier. You need to share your 2nd calendar with your main one by doing the following:
Sign into Google with your 2nd account.
Go to Calendar, and click on Settings link (top right corner)
On the Calendar Settings page go to "Calendars" tab.
Click the "Share this calendar" link.
Under the "Share with specific people" section, enter the e-mail address of your primary account, select "Make changes AND manage sharing" permission setting, click the "Add Person button, and finally click the "Save" button.
Log out of Google.
Sign into Google with your primary account and go to Calendars.
Go to Settings and verify that the calendar from your 2nd account is now listed under "My Calendars" section.
On your G1 open the Calendar app
Press the Menu button, select "More" and then "My calendars" option.
Press the Menu button again and select "Add calendars" option. This should sync up and present you a list with your 2nd account's calendar.
Select it, save and exit the Calendar app.
Repeat steps 1 through 12 for adding more calendars from your other accounts.
You're done.
I still haven't found a way to sync contacts from multiple gmail accounts. Maybe there's an app for that?
har har har everything works except this hmm. How bout adding all your work contacts to your regular account and make it into a group named "work". That way they don't mix or you can pull up fast.

That work-around is a one-way sync though. Time to put in a feature request at Android Google Code group.

Sorry for the noob question: How to I sync my Contacts over from my Nexus?

I am sure it's been covered, but I can't sync this to get my Google contacts for anything. I keep getting error code: 0x80072ee7
This is my first WimMo phone so go easy!
go to your gmail on your pc, then you want to go to contacts, then export contacts, and save them as an outlook file...then you want to log into windows live (if you dont have an account, make one up, and you can still use another email (you dont have to use a hotmail account), then after loading your contact file into windows live on your pc via the web, then you want to open windows live on your phone, and log in, then your contacts will sync, and be saved, like google, on windows live....
your lucky i was in a helpful/good mood because i just picked up my HD2, this all is windows help search away...
although you might have done this, a bit more info on how you got the error would be good...
There was a good thread about this in the HD2 General forum, unfortunately I can't remember the title. You can probably find it with a good search. It's within the last few days.
Basically.. in Settings -> Data Services -> ActiveSync, you can set up an email account that links to your gmail account and syncs the contacts. The account type should be Exchange. That's as much as I can remember. Just do a thread search, you'll find it.
if your contacts are on your gmail account, you can install SEVEN from here (You have to join their beta program and once you do, you can click on the "download software" link. Please select the consumer edition, and agree to the terms (read them carefully first, the reason is explained below). When you do you will be presented with the choice to receive a text message on your phone or other download options, select other download options, select HTC as the manufacturer and select either the P3450 or the T8282 as your model (the HD2 is not officially supported, but it works well at least on mine) and then you can download the cab.
The catch with SEVEN is that when you set up your account, it will send a text message to a number in the UK, they do that to register your phone on their system, and they only do it once per email account, although if you flash your phone and reinstall SEVEN, it will send the message again when you add your account again.
When you set up your account, you will be able to sync your email, your contacts and your calendar, and it will be setup as push. You can do this with gmail, AOL, yahoo, hotmail, and even custom accounts.
Hope this helps.
Phone the sound of it, you already set up an activesync to get your gmail email/contacts/calendar. I'm guessing you didn't unselect 'tasks.' If that is the case, then just go to activesync and in options, unselect 'tasks.' This should fix your problem (google doesn't support tasks so you can't sync them).
You can also deselect the tasks in data settings in the settings tab.

Remove Hotmail email (using Windows Live app does not work)

Hi,
I have 2 email accounts that I'd like to remove. Hotmail and Windows Live. They stopped syncing all of a sudden and when I select either of them and select Inbox, the next screen shows Set up Email account. When I try to set up my Hotmail and Windows Live email account again, I get a message saying that these accounts already exist.
I installed Windows Live 10.7 after trying out the above, but still no luck.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks!

even your hotmail and Windows Live Mail boxes are highlighted? Mine's greyed out...
if you allow them to be set up automatically then you need to go top the live app and remove your login details, which should remove the linked email account.

The Live app creates another Hotmail and another Windows Live Mail account which I can remove using Live app. The original accounts still remain in the Email Tab.
ahh.
no help then, sorry.

Login account

In Windows 8, we can login our email account. I am unsure if it restricts to Microsoft account (hotmail account). Currently, I am using GMail account for email client, calendar, address book, etc. As the account is used for work and personal cellphones, I do not want to switch to hotmail for the time being. Under such circumstances, which login account is more appropriate for me? Appreciate your advice!
The login account must be an MS account (or a local one like in previous versions, but then you don't get the benefits of integration like sharing bookmarks and settings across devices), but you can add Google accounts after logging in. However, be aware that Google recently decided to severely limit the access that new Microsoft devices have to Google accounts (as though I needed another reason not to use my gmail...) so while you can set up IMAP access for email, I'm not sure that either calendar or contact sync will work.

I have set up the email programs in "metro" to access my home, work, and gmail accounts. My calendar syncs with the Google calendar. So you should be able to use these. However, I am not impressed with the native email program, and I generally use Thunderbird on the desktop side (the Lightning plug in will access the Google calendar).
When I set up my computer, I logged into the microsoft account using my home email address (which I have previously set up in my MS account).
I use gmail to loggin my account on windows 8.

use BING and then create a Microsoft account their site will allow you to keep your gmail as the name.. Every Microsoft account will get a free Hotmail account associated to their username, if you have outlook it will get upgraded to outlook.com... this will happen if you're running outlook 2013 or office 365
Google has made changes that do not allow WP8 devices & Windows RT devices from accessing m.google.com/sync directly now. However, theres is a work-around to sync to multiple Google calendars. Please follow these steps from your desktop computer:
1. In IE10, click on the Tools button (Alt+T)
2. Click on F12 developer tools
3. In the window that pops-up, click on Tools
4. Expand the "Change user agent string" tab and select "Apple Safari (iPAD)"
5. Go back to the IE10 window and go to exactly this URL: "https://m.google.com/sync/settings/" (with the https and the slash after settings)
6. Sign into your google account if you aren't, already.
7. Click on "WindowsPhone"
8. In the URL, if you see this string (without the quotes): "supportMultiCalendars=false", change this to "supportMultiCalendars=true" and reload the page.
9. Now your google calendars will show up. The main google calendar will show up as "My Calendars". The other calendars will show up as "Shared Calendars" and calendars under this option will not be selected.
10. If you cannot select these "other calendars", disable JavaScript in IE10. Do this by following instructions here (these instructions are for IE9, but apply to IE10 also):http://browsers.about.com/od/interne...script-ie9.htm
11. Select the calendars you want to add.
12. Click on "Save".
13. On your WP8 device, go to settings -> email+accounts and sync your Google account.
14. Open the Calendar app on your WP8 device to make sure your "other Google calendars" now show up in the app.
This fixes the calendar issues on Windows RT and Windows Phone devices also.
Strange as my Gmail calendar works fine on my new windows 8 ultrabook without having to do anything

A single calendar is expected to (although that may change, the way Google restricted mail access a while back) but multiple calednars, if you want them all to show up, have historically required the above steps. I currently have only one Google Calendar (and barely even use it) so this isn't something I know from experience, but on Windows Phone it was known to be required and Win8 connects in the same way as the phone.
