Multiple Google accounts on one G1 - G1 General

Hi
I have 2 Google Apps accounts (one personal and one work)
From what I can tell, you can only sign in with one account into Android and to access the other Mail i will have to use IMAP. Fair enough, i can live with that. But i'm not sure i can live without both cals or google talk on both (or any other aspects which I have yet to check on, such as lattitude, although I cant actually find latitude on my maps app.)
Is there a way of
* syncing more than 1 calendar?
* logging into more than one account in google talk (IM app or others) as when you access the IM prog it brings up a page which looks like it should list all of the accounts you want to access... which, if you cant access more than 1, is a little pointless from what i can make out.
I dont suppose cupcake makes any of this possible does it?
cheers

Hi,
I know that the calendars can be done.
I have several google and apps accounts.
The account you use as the primary needs
to be given FULL access to the other calendar.
Go to the secondary account and do the sharing
and access stuff. I had to dig around a little for
the right procedure in the google help forums. Once
your primary user can edit events on the web for the
secondary calendar then all should be well. Remember
to color code them. I am currently working with three
calendars. They all will show up as one and color coded.
You can't open separate instances for each calendar.
When you add an event on your phone you get a dropdown
to choose which calendar to add it to.

K9 Mail (free app on the Market) is an excellent client that supports multiple IMAP/POP3 accounts.
For calendar sync, it's a little more trickier. You need to share your 2nd calendar with your main one by doing the following:
Sign into Google with your 2nd account.
Go to Calendar, and click on Settings link (top right corner)
On the Calendar Settings page go to "Calendars" tab.
Click the "Share this calendar" link.
Under the "Share with specific people" section, enter the e-mail address of your primary account, select "Make changes AND manage sharing" permission setting, click the "Add Person button, and finally click the "Save" button.
Log out of Google.
Sign into Google with your primary account and go to Calendars.
Go to Settings and verify that the calendar from your 2nd account is now listed under "My Calendars" section.
On your G1 open the Calendar app
Press the Menu button, select "More" and then "My calendars" option.
Press the Menu button again and select "Add calendars" option. This should sync up and present you a list with your 2nd account's calendar.
Select it, save and exit the Calendar app.
Repeat steps 1 through 12 for adding more calendars from your other accounts.
You're done.

I still haven't found a way to sync contacts from multiple gmail accounts. Maybe there's an app for that?

har har har everything works except this hmm. How bout adding all your work contacts to your regular account and make it into a group named "work". That way they don't mix or you can pull up fast.

That work-around is a one-way sync though. Time to put in a feature request at Android Google Code group.

Serious E-Mail problem

Hey folks!
I've set up multiple E-Mail accounts on my HD2. How can I tell the device which one to use when sending a mail?
Right now the device seems to use the (automatically generated) Outlook-Account. Of course this doesn't work, so sending a mail is impossible.
Sadly this Outlook account can't be deleted...
Can I select another account (like my GMX one) for sending?
Thx!!!
I'm not sure I understand the problem. Are you saying that when you click on the new mail icon from Sense, that it sends from the Outlook account only?
I can see three ways to choose which account to send mail from.
1. Select the account you want to work with in Sense by clicking on it on the right side of the screen, then click the 'New Mail' icon at the top right of the screen. Whatever account is selected, the email should be setup to be sent from that account (that's the way it works on mine).
2. Select the account you want to work with in Sense by clicking on it on the right side of the screen, then click 'Menu' and 'New Mail', and the email should be setup to be sent from the account you currently have selected. Or,
3. Select the account you want to work with in Sense by clicking on it on the right side of the screen, then click 'Inbox', then click 'Menu' and 'New', and the email will be setup to come from the account that you are currently viewing.
All of these work fine on mine. I only have two accounts setup, however I don't see why it would be any different if you have 10 accounts or more setup.
I hope that helps.
Dude, you're the greatest! The problem was indeed that I had the selected the Outlook account on the right side.

"My Calendar" won't sync with gmail calendar

Is there a way to get "My Calendar" to sync with my cloud gmail calendar? Selecting my gmail calendar every time I make an entry is a pain and I'd prefer to delete the default "My Calendar" all together. Has anyone found a solution? In googling this it seems a lot of people are having this problem.
Second this. Any way to change default calendar. I found this out the hardway that the default wasn't my gmail calendar. You have to switch it on the phone.

I don't know if you're rooted, but if u are, just download the nexus one calendar and it eliminate "my calendar" leaving only your gmail calendars. It can be found in the sticky thread in the general section.
Web Based Calendar + Calendar Quick Add

The best no-root solution I know of is the web based google calendar for touch-based devices Just go to calendar.google.com from your vibrant, make a bookmark and place the shortcut to the bookmark on your desktop.
As for quickly adding events, I use Calendar Quick Add, which allows easy text-based entry and allows you to choose the default calendar (spam blocker, remove the spaces):
appbrain . com / app/com.xinlu.quickadd

This was great advice, thanks! I didn't realize how highly developed the web-based Google apps had become... (The shortcut even looks nice on the desktop -- a little calendar.)
Not only that...

Not only that, but it supports HTML5 localstorage, so the calendar continues to work if you have no data connection and syncs your changes when one becomes available (the page must be open and displayed for the sync to happen).
When you create a new event, you have to manually select google calendar every single time instead of the default "my calendar". The default one is only local and it doesn't sync with google or outlook.
I hope Samsung will fix this.

This is true of the default calendar app that comes with the phone, but this is NOT true of the web-based calendar (that also supports offline sync) nor is it true of the "calendar quick add" app available in the market. Those two combined are a nice workaround (for me at least).
Work Around
This solution can be used for both root AND non-root devices:
Use a 3rd party cal (i prefer Jorte). Within the application, you can set the default as whichever calendar you prefer (either master gmail calendar or sub-calendar). Hope this helps!

Google calander driving me nuts

I know at least one other person has experienced this as I found this
When I add an appointment in the calendar, I always get this message:
"New event
Local calendar does not sync with Google calendar.
If you want to sync with Google, please add Google account"
Then a checkbox for "Go to account and sync"
and another: "Never show again"
Now, I have a Google account so not sure what I need to add.

I also know what the problem seems to be. It appears I have a local "My calendar" and a Googlemail one. I know this as I have a drop down option in each new appointment from which I can choose. I cannot however find a way to make the Googlemail one the default or delete the "My calendar" one.
This means if I forget to choose I do not sync with my Googlemail account nor my home PC. Anyone got any ideas ?
Screeny attached. (Personal info edited out)
Just open calendar, press settings and choose the calendar you want...
You can disable 'my calendar' also from there

That is the settings page. You can effectively select which calendar/s you want to display but you cannot disable them they are still running but the appointment in that calendar are not shown when you open the calendar app. and even if the "My calendar" is de-selected when you try to create a new appointment it still defaults to "my Calendar". It cannot be removed or disabled and you cannot make "Googlemail" the default.
Use a rom with all that samsung rubbish removed! Simples!

I'm not a fan of the default calendar input etc, so I use Calengoo and in that I can select which calendar it defaults to and displays, but it costs a few dollars. Maybe try something like Jorte. I just preferred the way they worked over the stock calendar.
I had this problem but with some ROM update it went away. What ROM version are you using?
Mine always and with any ron defaults to Google.
Once selected it stays default
You can try to erase all settings and set it up again
It doesn't do that on my version (2.3.4 JVP), the default calendar I select in the settings is the one it uses.
Maybe try clearing the data for the calendar by going to
settings->Applications->Manage Applications->tab All
And selecting Calendar storage and doing a clear data.
Maybe that will clear the problem (but you will have to reconfigure
your calendar, but if everything is synced to google it should be ok)

Again thanks. I have done that as well. It only started after the 2.3.3 update (official) I can't understand why there is a "My Calendar" as well as the Googlemail one, just do not see the point.
Just to clarify how it works for me, I have all of the calendars enabled in the settings (including the phone only "My Calendar". That just indicates that they should be displayed on the calendar.
When I add a new event (tap to create) one of the entry fields is the calendar I want to create the event in. Once I set that (and actually create an event, if you cancel it doesn't stick) it automatically defaults to that calendar for subsequent events that I create.
That is how to set the default calendar being used.

S planner and calendar syncing , feature or bug ?!

Using the s planner app,I have realized its got a bunch of useful and intersting features integrated with the s memo app, like linking handwritten memos and transcribing them into events or tasks. The quick add feature within the s planner is a very good addition too.
However, its still missing some basic stuff and features, which is quite irritating and annoying.
One of those features is the ability to add those quick events into the Google calendar by default !!!
No matter what I do, it adds that event into "my calendar" .. which is for some whatever reason, it cannot be synced with Google calendar !! So its only stored locally.
Even if I uncheck "my calendar" from the settings , it still adds the event to it but it only won't be visible unless u check the box again.
Removing Samsung account didn't help neither.
Is there anyway around this? Or an option to force the app to use Google calendar only?
could be a bug , or thats how samsung intented the way this app be used ?
Such basic features as calendar syncing with Google has been around since ages, im quite disappointed as this is my first samsung device. Samsung, by Not making the app behaving like normal calendar apps , will only make it useless and the whole point of this device (organizer, note,s pen) would be diminished
Edit:all the above applies to Tasks too.
any kind of help is highly appreciated.
Cheers

I already raised this frustrating issue in another thread:

I think the only hope is for a developer to have a stab at adding this functionality

I just got my Note today, did the 2.3.6 update, added an event in My Calendar, then it says "cannot sync with Google Calendar"
That is weird, and troublesome, for sure.
It's actually written in the user manual that it DOES NOT SYNC with google calendar. Nice "feature".

meh , why on earth they would do so !
Mine syncs perfectly. I looked in settings under calendar. I have "my calendar" and "my task" unchecked. Then I have a space with my name and a down arrow. I push the down arrow and it open a calendar with my gmail address. That is checked. Syncs perfectly.
I think the default for task/calendar is the local store, but you can choose another calendar. The option is covered by the keyboard but if you scroll down you can find it.
The problem is not that it won't sync with google calendars - it does. The annoying issue is that when you make a new calendar entry it defaults to 'My Calendar' rather than the google one. You are given the option to choose the google calendar but it is such a pain having to do that for every entry when with all other calendars you can choose your default calendar.
If you don't need the 'My Calendar' just tick it off in the settings. Then it defaults to the google calendar. Works this way since sgs 1 I think at least for me. I never have to choose the calendar when entering a new appointment with splanner in my google calender.

Agreed.
Either idiocy or arrogance on Smasung's part.
Do you need both calendars? If not you are talking of a non existing problem if I got you right (see my post above).

Hmm. this DOESN'T work for me. I have My Calender unchecked in the Calendars option, but it STILL defaults to my Calendar. very annoying. In addition, S-Planner is not syncing any of my events to my Exchange server. It pulls them down fine (if created elsewhere), but then doesn't update the server correctly. Grrr.

unticking the "my calendar" doesnt solve those issues , if u try to add an event via the "quick event" tab , or even from the s memo (which is supposed to be a great feature for GNote) , then it will default to "my calendar" even if it is unticked , it will be added ! but hidden!! since that checkbox is made for "display" not "enable/disable calendar" .
that's the way it is for me,so the quick event and s memo/planner events linking and organizers are nothing but useless ! (which is supposed to be a feature for this phone)
I have to admit I don't know what the 'Quick event' tab is. I just use the + button within the s planner (if I use it at all as I prefer other applications to enter my appointments).
Also when I create an appointment via s memo it defaults to my google calendar.
Have you checked your sync settings of the google calendar (there is an extra sync checkbox for the calendar)?
To be more precise there is a checkbox for calender sync as part of your google account reachable via calendar or general account settings.

The settings you refer to are purely "view settings". IE what calendar you see when looking at s planner, nothing at all to do with sync.
The point here is There is NO SETTING to uncheck the calendars you do not wish to select from therefore you need to select one every time you add any event which is a massive PITA...
Mine happens to default at "reminders calendar" which is a twat because I myself use icloud calendar (caldav).
Top and bottom of it is the s planner is shi t e.

Agenda & Agenda widget + birthdays
lol , this s planner thingy is either buggy or its got some kind weird , ridiculous and unproductive features !!!
i just stumbled upon another issue there , when i synced facebook contacts using friendcaster app , their birthdays were showing on the calendar (imagine the mess !) so i wanted to disable them.
since there is an option is s planner settings to untick the box for "show contacts birthdays" then its supposed to work right ? well it did somehow , the birthdays r no longer there on calendar monthly view , but on the agenda , they r still there !!! even on the agenda widget (which im using)
so to wrap this up ,, contacts birthdays will show up (and clutter) yr agenda and the agenda widget , no matter what u do (even if u untick birthdays display in the settings)..
please correct me if i am wrong but i dont think this is the way its suppose to work (at least it wasnt like that on my HTC Desire HD) .
Cheers.

If you are in the 1 day, 3 days or week view, you can click on the timeline and 'Quick event' tab opens up which defaults to 'My Calendar' even though it is disabled. There is however button 'Edit event details' on the Quick Event window where calendar of choice is preselected. Thank God!!

HTC EVO 4g-Haxsync 4.x.x: Join all contacts

It has taken me ages to figure out how to sync my facebook contacts with my evo 4g running MIUI v4. So I am posting the steps to successfully sync all your contacts with with facebook.
First off it is obvious that you need haxsync.
I am not sure if you need the official facebook app but I had it install when I did this process so I'll say yes.
Steps:
You will need to download the Haxsync jellybean workaround which can be found on the market and is free.
With haxsync installed as well as the official facebook app, open the haxsync workaround through playstore. (The app will not open but install the workaround into your system files.)
Now go to system settings then click add account.
Select the haxsync account and enter your facebook account information. (Do not add facebook account as it will not work).
Set app permissions as you wish. I elected not to have hacsynx post to my feed.
Go to contacts and click menu then accounts.
Click the haxsync account and select sync contacts. (This will only sync the contacts that are exactly like the facebook contacts)
Go back to system settings then accounts and click the haxsync account.
Click preferences then contact settings
Turn off sync exisiting contacts only and any other settings you don't want to sync while you're here. (Turning off sync exisiting contacts will allow haxsync to sync all your facebook contacts)
Go back to contacts, and from here you can do one of two things.
Click menu, display options, click haxsync or custom then haxsync (depending on your rom) and uncheck the all contacts box. (This will hide all the facebook contacts) and now you have to manually join the contacts using the search bar or,
Begin to manually join contacts now-- once finish click menu, display options, haxsync or custom then haxsync (Depending on your rom) and uncheck the all contacts box (This will hide all the facebook contacts that you did not join).
Voila you now have all the facebook contacts that you originally had before the fight between google and facebook.
Look Below in Red for how to join contacts with and without the search feature.
Join Contacts without Search Feature
Long press contact you want to join another contact with
Click edit
Touch menu key on phone
Click Join
Scroll to contact you want to be joined and click it.
Click Save and continue to next contact.
Join Contacts With Search Feature
Long Press Contact you want to join another contact with
Click Edit
Click Join
In Search Bar type the name of the contact you want to join with the one you long pressed
Click Contact you want to be joined
Click save and continue to next contact
