HTC EVO 4g-Haxsync 4.x.x: Join all contacts - EVO 4G General

It has taken me ages to figure out how to sync my facebook contacts with my evo 4g running MIUI v4. So I am posting the steps to successfully sync all your contacts with with facebook.
First off it is obvious that you need haxsync.
I am not sure if you need the official facebook app but I had it install when I did this process so I'll say yes.
Steps:
You will need to download the Haxsync jellybean workaround which can be found on the market and is free.
With haxsync installed as well as the official facebook app, open the haxsync workaround through playstore. (The app will not open but install the workaround into your system files.)
Now go to system settings then click add account.
Select the haxsync account and enter your facebook account information. (Do not add facebook account as it will not work).
Set app permissions as you wish. I elected not to have hacsynx post to my feed.
Go to contacts and click menu then accounts.
Click the haxsync account and select sync contacts. (This will only sync the contacts that are exactly like the facebook contacts)
Go back to system settings then accounts and click the haxsync account.
Click preferences then contact settings
Turn off sync exisiting contacts only and any other settings you don't want to sync while you're here. (Turning off sync exisiting contacts will allow haxsync to sync all your facebook contacts)
Go back to contacts, and from here you can do one of two things.
Click menu, display options, click haxsync or custom then haxsync (depending on your rom) and uncheck the all contacts box. (This will hide all the facebook contacts) and now you have to manually join the contacts using the search bar or,
Begin to manually join contacts now-- once finish click menu, display options, haxsync or custom then haxsync (Depending on your rom) and uncheck the all contacts box (This will hide all the facebook contacts that you did not join).
Voila you now have all the facebook contacts that you originally had before the fight between google and facebook.
Look Below in Red for how to join contacts with and without the search feature.
Join Contacts without Search Feature
Long press contact you want to join another contact with
Click edit
Touch menu key on phone
Click Join
Scroll to contact you want to be joined and click it.
Click Save and continue to next contact.
Join Contacts With Search Feature
Long Press Contact you want to join another contact with
Click Edit
Click Join
In Search Bar type the name of the contact you want to join with the one you long pressed
Click Contact you want to be joined
Click save and continue to next contact

Not entirely sure what you are asking, but if you goto your nexus one contacts > Menu button > accounts > add account, you can add facebook in. then afterwards, just make sure there is a checkmark in your facebook account sync settings. This will sync facebook and your nexus one contacts profile pic and all. If your nexus can't figure out which google contacts and which facebook contacts are the same person, you can manually join them under the settings for each contact and the profile pics and info will stay synced forever more.
However, your nexus won't sync this unified contact info or the profile pictures back to Google contacts website. Just for your phones contacts app.

This is what I'm trying to do... where in the settings? There's either "Options", which just changes ringtone and such, or there's the option to Edit the contact. Don't see where to link Gmail contacts with Facebook.
go to the facebook app and add your account and then it will givey ou options to sync or not
I know I'm having this issue... I'm not sure if it beacse there is already a contact icon (this is what android call is) in place and facebook can't over-write a new photo or not. I know you can go an edit the contact and there is a facebook section where you can choose to use the icon/picture there.

It will automatically merge the facebook contacts with matching google contacts. be sure to force a manual sync in case it didn't automatically do it after adding the facebook account.
for the facebook contacts it couldn't figure out which google contact to merge with, goto the contact, click on edit contact, and towards the bottom you should have a join contacts option to pick a contact to merge the info with for future syncs.
Also, if you have already assigned a contact picture, I think that will override the facebook synced one. SO remove any contact pictures you assigned locally.

Thanks, that's the info I needed! I didn't know I had to click menu a second time after I was already in the edit contacts screen.
Edit: I was initially bummed when it started changing the displayed names of my contacts to match the Facebook profiles... but then I realized that it keeps your old name in the contact on the phone as well. So when I start typing Dad, it brings up my dad's name. Nice.

Yeah, It doesn't actually change anything on facebook or google contacts, it just changes the view on your phone and syncs that view with any changes that come from facebook or google contacts. but both address books are still kept separate on their respective servers. Although it would be kind of cool if there was a an option to sync that data and profile pics back to the google contacts server since I use google voice a lot. But that would be a very difficult thing to do and a bug could be catastrophic.

Yeah... I assumed that sync was... adding the information (pic, email, phone number...) to your contact, then that information would be uploaded to google contacts. I guess all the facebook sync does is just creates a "Facebook" section in your main contact card and that information never gets really added to the main portion of that contact card... the fb information is just there for your phone...

Link Facebook Contact to Google Contact

Anyone know how to add a Facebook contact to a Google contact? It was easy as pie in Sense but I can't see how to do it in Froyo.
Sync using the FaceBook app?
Open Google Contact. Menu -> Edit. Once in the editing, Menu -> join. Choose the correct facebook/twitter contact you want to link.

is there a way to add just one contact from facebook. F.eks. my gf is saved as 'Gf <3' on my phone. Obviously this didnt sync with her facebook account. When I do your thing with Join I can only join her to the contacts I already have in my Google contacts. Not seperately from Twitter or Facebook.

rename the google contact to the name on facebook, join it with fb, and when it syncs just rename the google contact.
it allowed me to have custom names in my google contacts while having them synced to fb without showing full name.

You need to display ALL Facebook contacts temporarily. Then you can join any that have differing names and then hide the rest. In contacts hit the Menu button, choose Display Options, tap on your Facebook account user name, choose All Contacts, and then choose Done. Now all of your Facebook contacts should be visible. Once you have joined any that need joining, go back and uncheck All Contacts to hide the rest.
thx for the help. I FNALLY got it to work after.
First I deleted my gf completely from google contacts, then I imported all contacts from facebook, she still wouldnt show up. Dunno why that was. I had to delete my facebook sync account and add it again then I got her up and I could join the two.

Keep facebook contacts from showing

I know there must be a setting for this but for the life of me I don't seem to be able to find it. I had to wipe my phone and flash it again today. Now when I go to make a call, it is not just showing my contacts that I sync with my pc but it is also showing my facebook contacts. Keep in mind this is in the phone app and not in the people app. How can I stop this from happening? I am on the fresh 2.1.2 rom.
In the address book, click menu, then view.
Assuming that you have your facebook contacts syncs checked, go to menu, settings, accounts and sync, and uncheck facebook sync. You should be good to go.
Dave I still see my facebook contacts in the phone app how about you OP?

Try removing the facebook account altogether in manage account section (within the account and sync settings). That worked for me.
In the people app I have only the phone contacts selected. Where I see the facebook contacts is if I am in the phone app and I start scrolling through the list from the phone app or if I create a shortcut that is Direct Dial. In those 2 cases it shows the facebook contacts eventhough in the address book the google and facebook contacts are not checked.

What got rid of my facebook contacts is if you are looking at the main screen, you go to menu, then settings, then accounts and sync. If you have facebook at all in that menu, remove it completely. None of my facebook contacts comes up any more if I'm in the people menu or phone menu at all.
That's all I know.

Syncing the contacts also sucks when you text. it list all the fb contacts in there....

[Q] Facebook Contact Photos - Don't show in SMS App on Eclair or Froyo? - Annoying

What does a guy have to do for the Facebook contact photo to show up in other Android apps that display contact photos like SMS?
If I apply the photo to a contact from local storage it will show on the SMS app, but I haven't found a single Facebook contact photo that will show in SMS. Why?
Is there a trick to getting this to work? I'm finding its the same on Froyo DK17 release for Epic and stock DI18 Epic.

FIX ACTION:
1. Delete the existing FB account from Settings -> Accounts and Sync
2. Select your FB account and hit button "Remove Account"
3. Go to home screen
4. Open Contacts application in Android
5. Menu option to "Get Friends"
6. Hit "Add Account" button
7. Add Facebook Account
You'll have to go back and open Facebook application and authenticate to that separately.
You have to actually end up with two Facebook accounts under Settings -> Accounts. One is for the Facebook application and widget. The other is for the Andriod Contacts and Calendar apps to sync tightly with FB.
I had the same problem so I unlinked my Facebook friends from my contacts. Now my contacts don't have a picture at all! If I edit them, the previous picture shows up but when I finish editing, its not there.

I don't know about 2.2 as I have not been brave enough to flash a rom yet. However, I just resolved this problem about a week ago on 2.1. What I did was delete all FB accounts on my phone, After that go to the facebook widget, it will have you sign on to FB. Do it. Now go to your contacts and long press on someone. Go to get friends. You will then have to login to your FB for that. Do it. Link your contacts if needed. For some reason the order in which you do this matters. It's freakin' stupid.

Thanks alfiej - that did the trick. It's the same in Eclair as Froyo. You have to actually end up with two Facebook accounts under Settings -> Accounts. One is for the Facebook application and widget. The other is for the Andriod Contacts and Calendar apps to sync tightly with FB. And you're right, looks like the best way to add it is through Contacts "Get Friends" option. That synced up the contact data AND grabbed the FB photos for my contacts! Woot!
i prefer not to rely on the system to pick the photos as it tends to mix them up horridly, i use an app called syncmypix in the market its free and lets you pick or can do a smart scan
Same here...when you install the one made by the facebook app tell it not to sync. Go to the sync settings and add the facebook one at the top. Then go through and join your contacts. Works like a charm then.
No prob, glad I could actually help someone. And good looking on the sync app, I am going to have to check it out. I'm tired of baby pictures in my contact list lol
+99 on syncmypix!!! Sweet high res goodness for my contact photos! I think they even synced to my corporate exchange contacts after updating on my device. Thanks shabbypenguin for that tip!

CM10 + Facebook sync

Do you have some way to sync facebook contacts with milestone 2 + CM10?
i try update app from market, check the option to sync contacts, but nothing happen, search in foruns and got just the answer use motoblur, but CM10 dont have MOTOBLUR.
what is the best way to do that?
Try the app 'facebook contact sync' from the play store. works very good on my phone. The only problem is, if people have different contact names on your phone (not facebook username) you need the facebook-id. Haven't figured out yet how that works.

just don't open the "Contacts" app, open "Phone" and switch to contacts. There will appear only your contacts with number.
Contact Picture Sync (from sbla games) is an interesting app, instead of automatic an regular syncs, the app creates a one time list where it try to find correspondent matches, then you review the list selecting FB and the correspondent local contact, then download the full sized pictures to local contacts. The app can save the list for the next sync.
