Hi,
i contacted sony for the 3 time via chat
now i got a really nice person
he told me 3 things:
We will get more updates (for gb)
We will get the new ps store!
and last but not least: they are going to make a decision next week if we will get the possibility to chose if we want the ics update!
if sony agree they will release ics and we can chose if we want it

Crossing my fingers. I would love to see the 2.3.7 from Xperia S made available to all Xperia PLAYs (even mine, but doubt it, maybe through the PC Suite) Either way thank you very much nickholtus.
I've contacted Sony Support, I am extracting as much as I can lol.
So fare she has no information on the PS Suite. (Edit: She does now, she directed me to the PS Suite Open Beta blog post)
She has denied that we will have an optional update (Bummer, but because UK chat was closed I've contacted US Chat which may be out dated lol)
And she has no details if we will continue to receive firmware updates.

If you should get the same info from anotehr rep @ Sony please confirm it here, that way we can have confirmation from two different users. Not saying I do not believe Nickh post, just confirmation. Thanks!
Thing is we get this kind of information that gets our hopes up high and in the end the result we got from it is NOTHING.
TBH i'm not too sure about the ICS part cause Sony have officially confirmed the Xperia Play wont be getting ICS.
Good work nickholtus! Nice news, hope that'll also happen. IMO, XPlay owners should have the right to decide wether to upgrade or not.
I'm praying right now! thank you nickholtus!!
Edit: btw where can I contact sony via chat? thanks
Edit2: nvm I found it, Sony US still says there wont be no ICS Update
i contacted sony netherlands

I'm with ya
i asked same question to USA support chat and:
"I currently do not have this information and can not make any especulations regarding the future updates that your phone may receive"...
Even without ICS, info about GB updates made me smiling and really happy. And even without ICS, these news are already GOOD!
Fingers crossed! Thanks nickholtus!

I talked to a sony chat rep and the guy was a jackass lol didnt even know what ICS or the Playstation Suite is
EDIT
talked to a new guy this is what he said
"Yes, we intend to release new software updates to the phone, but as for this moment it will not be upgradeable to our latest software ICS4.0"

Wonder how many times you're going to say this? We get it, you don't believe anything Sony says.
I would honestly prefer an updated and heavily optimized gingerbread build with an updated kernel than a crippled ics build.

Sounds like the typical BS customer support feed people in order to get them off the line.
I also very much doubt customer support is kept in the know about these kinds of decisions before they're officially announced.

This is my email to HTC.
"Hello Sir/Madam
You must be getting this a lot, but there is no news on your twitter feed about this problem. I own a HTC Hero and due to being stuck on 1.5(cupcake) I am unable to download a lot of new applications for my phone. Is there a reason we are not getting timely updates? I have not had this problem with my iPhone.
This is making me regret moving over to HTC, if this is the level of service I am to expect in the future. I cannot understand how you put this quote on your site " HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience."
Please give a set date on Twitter or reply to my email address, if we are to expect a update and a confirmed date.
It is a shame about the level of service with the phone, and will be a shame if I have to move away from android because of no updates.
I Hope you do reply( even if it is just sorry we cant help you, just to show you have read this)
Hoping for good news Modo Albans (currently an Hero fan)"
And this is the response I got.
"hi
Thank you for your enquiry.
You will need to put the 1.6 rom on your phone to make allow the apps to work.
this is on are web site.

I would respond to tell them that hero does not have 1.6
Good old HTC perhaps they should outsource there software support to XDA
Email them back saying there is no 1.6 ROM available for the HTC Touch G2 Hero.

Thank you for your enquiry.
I made mistake on that last email.
The hero is on 1.5 and will be left on 1.5 until and if it will go to 2.1.
If and when this is released it will be on are web site.

Check out that shocking grammar! Guy should get sacked.
That is a generic response I would expect from someone like that. They will not be caught unofficially announcing a release of 2.1
I have a funny feeling they doing it to suprise people unless there is major problems with this ROM on this type of phone. Lets just wait and see who knows we might be in for a suprise

I know that this dead horse has been beaten enough already. But I thought Hong Kong Sony Ericsson X10 users may be interested to hear that the Android 2.1 update is scheduled to be released in September, along with a second a marketing campaign push for the handset.
Before you ask me about the source, I'll tell you now that I cannot share it.

As far as I know, they have said that the release will be Q3 and onwards. There was no official mention of September, only an assumption made by us. Please correct me if I am wrong.
No, I cannot give you a source because the information is not available in the public domain. This information was passed in confidence between Sony Ericsson and a mobile operator.
I thought it'd be nice for me to share this information with you guys but if it's causing so much distress, I have no problem keeping it to myself. Frankly, it's not worth risking my job by posting a confidential e-mail here.
You are welcome to ignore what I post (and you should take everything on internet with a pinch of salt), but the last time I did something like this, it was pretty damn accurate - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725008.
Have a nice day.

I work with a Pony and can confirm 3 came out
Q1 -> January, February, March
Q2 -> April, May, June
Q3 -> July, August, September
Q4 -> October, November, December
So, if it will be out int Q3, it will be released in September, everybody knows that...
Oh btw August is nearly over so there is no other possibility than september...

I've received quite a handful amount of PM's regarding the new SO-01b update that it wasn't up to their expectations regarding UXP revamp or improvements. The SO-01b update is "not" what SE planned to update. It's version is still 2.0.1. Please note that the update is not what has been planned nor is the one planned canceled. Everything is still on schedule, and you will all receive your next big update to 2.1.A update soon. The final test firmware has already begun internally a few days ago, so it will take a while before it exits testing period. Please be patience guys
P.S. Anyone read the Vivaz 2 article? I can only laugh

Yes, it should be supported in 2.1.A, but NOT 2.0.1.B. I'm sure there will be people who misunderstand that. Thanks for the confirmation from your location
Thanks for clearing this up. Is it possible to give some more info on the contents of this update?
In Japan there is a rumor that SO-01B will not plan to update to 2.1x.
So I think 2.0.1.b.0.19 update is final update to give us MT for SO-01B.

Your title says for "non-rooted" users. So if you are rooted and running stock SE you will NOT get the update?!
I think he still thought that the new update couldn't be root.
It's for those who dont root thier X10
No, I did not meant to say if you are rooted then you will not receive an update. It's definitely not true Most of the rooted users are probably already on the clean roms or even 2.2 roms with MT enabled throughout. So I don't know if you guys would be interested in the new update

@unknown13x- What exactly is the difference between the Hallon and the Arc? Given the Hallon article by MR, it seems that we are going to pay a premium on the Arc for inferior features. The hallon has a front cam while Arc doesnt. Everything else is the same.

Hey friends!! Like all of you i wanted to know if our beautiful device will eventually receive an update to Gingerbread 2.3 in the future, so as we (Pocketdroid) promised to contact SamFirmware. We got our answer and they said such update is "NOT planned," for Samsung Galaxy 3 Apollo (GT-I5800).
Short and precise answer from them which is very disappointing but at least now we know what to expect. Check the screenshot I've made with SamFirmware answer via Twitter account.

Humm, I don't know, I hope I'm wrong, but I see it pretty clear (No Gingerbread). Let's pray for CM7 port...
I think everybody expected that there will be no official gingerbread update
doh! very sad 2.2 sucks
that was expected, not surprising at all...what is sad is that many much inferior phones have got gingerbread...
I can understand Samsung but I'm very disappointed.
But why should they bring Gingerbread to our "low level" phone and support their expensive phones on the same time. They just want to sell their expensive phones so in their mind if we want Gingerbread we should buy a more expensive phone.

Exactly, that's the point. They provide a few updates in the first months/years of the "phone life", and then, all of their resources goes to the new or more expensive phones, and If you want the last Android version, you have to pay for it... in the form of a brand new phone. That's bussines. And it sucks
