galaxy s3 3g signal quite good - Galaxy S III General

compare to my old nexus s, the galaxy s3 is basically 10dBm higher.
i'm now putting two phones together, on nexus s it shows -101~-103dBm
but it shows -91~-93dBm on the s3.
i also found that it's much shorter time to sucessfully making a call, and disable 3g to 2g network is much faster than the nexus s too
i'm in china , both of them are connecting to the same provider and hsdpa network atm
ps:hspap on gs3 is very fast

Nexus 4 bad reception?

We made the switch to t-mobile. In my possession currently I have 3 Nexus 4s, 1 HTC One, 1 Samsung Note 2 and 1 Samsung S4. All are on t-mobile The 3 Nexus 4s are constantly switching between 3g and h+ (and it is literally every couple of seconds you see the 3g/h+ icons switching). The other three are consistently 4g (though I swear they are all h+ based off speed tests). In any case, even when the Nexus 4s are on h+ speeds they are all slower then the other 3 phones on 3g.
I've tried different kernels/roms/radios on the Nexus 4s with no luck. Any suggestions? Nexus 4 reception just bad?
I am also very interested in this. I have been getting pretty bad reception on my nexus 4 in dt houston buildings. Thought an HTC One might offer an improvement.
Sounds like the One, S4 and Note 2 are on LTE and your nexus 4s are on HSPA+ because the nexus 4 isn't an LTE device (out the box). Also, the nexus 4 switching back and forth from H+ to 3G is normal behavior.
Dropping from HSPA+ to HSPA is normal. It's called "Fast Dormancy" and is used to conserve battery life.
If you are already on a custom ROM, try a different radio image (baseband version). Be sure to confirm it is compatible with the ROM first, or you may have other issues.

Galaxy Note 3 radio / modem weaker than Galaxy S2

Just wanted to compare experiences here.
Before I switched to Note 3 I was mostly using my S2, and seldomly Note 1
(The reason I rarely used Note 1 was due its horrible battery life)
Do Note (no pun intended ) I'm comparing reception for AWS band (1700/2100)
So S2 was my main phone until I got the Note 3, the S2 can get great signals even at bad reception areas like toilet / stairwells / elevators inside a building without windows nearby.
However with Note3, I'm sitting right next to a Window and it keeps on losing reception.
Perhaps it has something to do with its power saving feature in the kernel (I'm not talking about the "Power Saving Feature" in Settings)
The reason I believe this might be the case, is simply due the fact that If I initiate a data session then it'll suddenly get signal again, and my SMS / missed calls will come through just fine, but if I let it idle, then it loses network connection and I'll miss reception.
I'm on the Stock ROM, only rooted, no other changes have been made.
Share your experience.
i think i have to agree with you.....my signal is weaker on the note 3 than it was on the note 1 (everything was changed on this one). i'm looking to change the modem as it is still the one that came with it and no updates to the firmware as yet on vodafone uk
I also jumped from s2 to note 3 and I agree, what I have seen also and share it here is that mj2 modem is better in Wifi less power consuming but mj1 is better in carrier signal but more power consuming so I rolled back to mj1.

Significantly lower power combined with immature software. I'd alai be willing to bet the radios weren't the greateston the s2 right when it came out.

When the s2 came out. .. We're taking a few years ago now and things have moved on and would expect it to better now for sure. ...

This is also the first snapdragon 800 device I believe. If you'd rather not wait for them to get the power correct, you can tune it yourself...

Let's not forget about the snapdragon variant of the s3.
Idle power had an extra 0 appended to it and ended up with an idle power draw of 30ma instead of 3ma.
+1 agreed, S2 still had unbeatable radio/modem. On my S3 had installed custom Kernel to matched with S2.

Does the Note 3 have better signal reception than the S4?

Researching a potential device switch, but want better reception than the S4. If the Note 3 is even just a little better I would be fine.
Doubtful , but never had the s4. ..just seems like a lot of varying opinions about signal

My experience from the Galaxy Nexus to the Nexus 6

I previously owned a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon and just yesterday received my Nexus 6. From what I have seen so far (with speedtests) is that the Via Telecom CBP 7.1 (the CDMA chip in the Galaxy Nexus) is the main reason why the Galaxy Nexus is horrible. I was constantly having issues with switching from CDMA to 4G (Again, it could be just my phone). My average speeds on the phone were between 5 mbps and 8 mbps. I have flashed all different variants of radios for the device to no avail with all different types of ROMs from 4.1 to 5.0
In the same area (from work to home) now with my Nexus 6, my average speed is 20 mbps, granted I have had my phone for just a day . It could be that I am also connected to XLTE, but I am not sure if the Nexus 6 utilizes this on Verizon's network. (It does have the XLTE bands for Verizon). Rarely do I drop to 3g on my route to work when I would constantly drop to 3g on my Galaxy Nexus.
Overall the experience is 100 fold better. As for comments on lag and all other sorts of issues, I can live with it compared to the Galaxy Nexus.
galaxy nexus is an old device, of course the nexus 6 will be better in all respects. after the gnex, google also released the nexus 4, and nexus 5, both better devices than the galaxy nexus.

TMO folks, how does the signal strength compare with GS6?

I live out in the sticks, I rely on wifi calling. I am hoping there is some improvement with the modem. Both my GS6 and Note4 cannot make a reliable call here without WIFI.
Curious to know about this as well..

I have better service so far with the S7E on T-Mobile than my S6E. That's for sure. Noticed last night
I'll be back in my office with less-than-stellar coverage on Friday. My Note 5 used to struggle for LTE until recent radio updates allowed it to pull 3-4 bars fairly easily (not in an active Band 12 area for this office). Hoping the S7 Edge can do this too.
Has anyone figured out how to tell the phone to prefer Band 12 over others? I used the same Samsung Service Mode from the Note 5, but the options are laid out completely differently.
My Note 5 had much better reception inside the building that I work. Hopefully an update will make it better.

My Note 5 & S7E has about the same signal strength. But, from speed wise, Note 5 is pulling about 10Mbps faster than S7E (35 vs 25). Also, another strange thing is that Note 5 is LTE towers while S7E is using GSM towers. I couldn't find any switch to fix that...
Side by side with my s6 I'm getting an extra bar on the s7
For some reason the signal is been pretty spotty compare to my Note 5. Hopefully, Tmobile has an update in the works.
Better signal but more important then that is faster connect. A lot of times on my s6 there would be long pauses before ringing. The s7e is much faster.

I've noticed that my LTE signal in the office is slightly weaker than my Note 5, but it still works.
Noticed my LTE signal is weaker in the office as well (Coming from note 5). Hope a update fixes the issue.
