[Q] Am I using the right Kernal? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I've been flashing various CM7 and CM9 ROM's onto my defy for awhile now.
After time I have always started running into deep sleep problems, which always starts requiring a reboot to get it going again.
Im not a heavy app user, and do use task killers. However something that has often confused me is am I using the right Kernal?
I have a green lens defy currently running "CM9-NIGHTLY-120602-Defy.zip"
I've attached a screen shot showing which Kernal I have currently flashed.
Would someone please be kind enough to tell me whether it is the right kernal to be using and if not link me to the right one?

Thanks!

I thought only gingerbread builds had deep sleep (2.3.6)?

Might work on ms2ginger with greenbreadmod but I don't use ms2ginger so I wouldn't know 100%.
I know gingerspeed has it but none of the greenbreadmods work for gingerspeed so you would lose the camera

[Q] i9000 2.3.4 keeps rebooting

as above
i recently upgraded to 2.3.4 and it sometimes turns itself off and reboots while in standby.
any ideas, thanks
Did you tried reflashing? Maybe that solves it...
Another idea is to try a different ROM...
Thanks. i may have to, was using darkys 10.1 might go back to it
This is a common issue with GB roms (stock and custom). there is another post with a poll on the first few pages. Maybe add your feedback there.

I have got the same Problem. Now i have f1 V6 rom with Gakaxian Kernel. All problems are gone.

Well the problems generally take 3-5 days to start, has it been that long?

thanks guys.
rebooting problem is getting worse, whats the best rom for my gt i9000
I experienced this problem as well. Now I'm running stock JVQ with Galaxian kernel @ 1.2Ghz. Not happened to me since then.
maybe hardware wrongs

[Q] No connection, no battery?

At first, my phone went almost brick. Booted only without battery, in charger. So then I was able to change back to the original rom. After that, every custom rom I try, shows at notification "no connection" and there is a question mark on the battery. Whats wrong with this phone?
edit: Oxygen is working. Cm7 and Miui are not. They wont even ask pin code, which I think is the cause...
.32 or. 35 kernel? In otherwords have you updated to official gingerbread?
Sent from my u8800 using my toes
Btw, same thing happened to me. Also thought that i had bricked my phone, but got it unbricked using 2.3.5 official with cord plugged.
Sent from my u8800 in summer of 69
It says 2.6.32.9. So I should update 2.3 and then flash custom rom?
Other choise is that you could install .32 version of cm7 at the moment it is most stable cm7.
Sent from my u8800 without hands
Look for 111128-32final it is in development section. .32 kernel is not working in new cm7 & miui releases.
Sent from my u8800 with eyes wide shut
Thanks a lot, just upgraded official gingerbread and then flashed miui, works nice!
No problem, we all are here to help. I have been helped so many times that I want to help when ever I can. ^^

[Q] Battery Life on CM7.1 Stable

Hello,
Using CM7.1 jordan stable on my MB525 Red Lens. Everything is working perfectly, but i have some pretty nasty battery uptimes. I charged the phone to 100% last night, the moment i unplug it i already have 99%, and after 8 hours spent with the phone unplugged while i was sleeping overnight, it went down to 46%. Any ideas as to why this happens and what i can do to tame it?
Thanks.
This is nasty.did you calibrated the battery after you installed cm7?
I too have red lens and running 1403 quarx defy + build with Walter 4.5.3-109 kernel which gives best battery life. The same kernel is used in ms2 ginger 3.0 which is known to have best battery.
Sent from my MB526 using XDA App
Running kernel 2.6.32.9-gb08c3c8, EPU93 baseband. I have not calibrated, but after reading around on the forums it looks like it's not much use. Or is it? I installed the calibrator, i will let the phone power down completely and then will charge up to 100% and recalibrate. Any other advice that might be useful?
Thanks.
Since your defy is red lens I would suggest you to flash defy + builds. You can use latest quarx 0316 cm72 defy + build and flash walter79 4.5.3.109 kennel.that would give awesome battery life and at the same time you are on beauty of cm7.
For quarx builds, get it from http://quarx2k.ru/cm7-nightly-defy+/
For kernel just see the ms2 ginger thread, there you would find 4.5.3.109 and zip file which can be flashed by cwm.
Btw, earlier releases had problem in booting with that kernel which quarx fixed on 0316. If you flash earlier cm72 releases, then flash 4.5.2.109dht22 kernel, which you can find in the same ms2ginger thread.

Can i flash the Kernel you suggested on my current CM7 without flashing CM7.2 for Defy+? If i can, what will the effects be? Will it mean any changes in my settings, applications or any other thing, or will it just improve certain computing aspects?

No don't flash that kernel which leads to boot loop on cm7 stable which uses froyo kernel. I assume you have froyo kernel now correct.
Kernel won't change any computing aspects nor will change any settings, you don't find any noticeable difference as far as the system goes.
Sent from my MB526 using XDA App
Correct. 2.2.2 CEE as base. Any other kernel you might recommend for this base and CM7.1 stable? Or any other battery calibration suggestions, way to make it last longer?
Well on froyo I don't have one to recommend. GB builds give better battery life and we have alternatives.
I was with cm7 fire quite some time but didn't like battery life. Then I moved to ms2ginger, battery life was awesome but then it's stock, missing cm7.
Now finally I have mix of cm72 with ms2ginger kernel, loving it.
If you have nandroid backup of original stock froyo and gives better battery life then try restoring it's 'boot' through cwm recovery, please nandroid backup the existing 'boot' before you do this, just in case if you stuck in boot loop, you can restore it back.

I was using the MS2Ginger 3.0 based rom by walter79 and I got wifi issues with my office wifi not working.. I then flashed to cm7.1 and though battery life is not that good, wifi works smoothly...
I will try the cm7.2 with ms2ginger and see if I get wifi issues with that as well.

Where do I go from here???

Hey people! I purchased my Defy from someone on craigslist. The model is mb525 and I think its already rooted because it has the super user app already on it. I would like to update my defy to the latest problem free rom for daily usage but I really don't know what's done to it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Sent from my MB525 using xda app-developers app
That's a very basic question, so I would suggest searching and reading, reading, reading.
Moved to Q&A. Please post all questions there.

Find out if it's green or red lens defy.
Find out what kernel it currently runs and what version of Android.
You can try CM7 for installation and you can move along with new ROMS as and when you get experience. PM me if you need help.

You have to read man, and be very careful wich ROM will u flash. Read this Post, it is very useful http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
Naa...you don`t have tor read that much. It is pretty simple:
1. Check if you have bootmenu already installed (reboot; led should turn blue after a few seconds while moto logo is displayed). If not, just install it.
2. Find out what lens does your defy have (red/green) and what kernel is it using - as premaca has already mentioned. Settings>About Phone> Kernel Version. If it ends up in (...droid)07, 12 or 50 it is froyo kernel. If not it is GB kernel.
3. Decide what rom you want (cm10/9/7, MIUI...etc. Most of them work very good) I can`t help you here. It`s all about your taste. (I consider that cm7 is the most stable and powerful rom at this moment but just by a small margin.)
4. Follow installation guide for each ROM according to what lens you have (red/green). (I am pretty sure each developer described how to install his ROM)
Good luck!

[Q]Daily ROM Updates

THIS THREAD WILL NOT LEAD YOU TO ANY UPDATE OF ANY ROMs....
Hi everyone!...
I wanted to ask which ROM should I install...I KNOW THERE ARE SEVERAL THREAD ABOUT "STABLE ROM"
but the thing is that they are very old and at present m on CM10 the 26.05.2013 built....also tried CM10.1 of 7.06.2013 built the thing is that CM10.1 is very sluggish (what I felt)...n came back to cm10 26.05...but yesterday when I was using Google Maps it shutdown and when m trying it to boot I'm stuck on the CM logo...
the question is
"DO I GO WITH CM7.2 AS CM9 IS DISCONTINUED TO DEVELOP...AND CM10/10.1 IS NOT THAT STABLE...I CAN NOT AFFORD TO WIPE MY CELL FOR UPDATE/CRASHES SO I NEED A STABLE ROM ON WHICH I CAN STAY, ALSO NEED A GOOD BATTERY PERFORMANCE"...
MY USAGE:
* I USE MY CELL FOR INTERNET SURFING,
* WATCHING YOUTUBE,
* PLAYING GAMES (VERY LESS AND VERY SMALL GAMES NOT LIKE TEMPLE RUN/SUBWAY SURFERS),
* MAPS,
* TWITTER...THATS IT...SO PLZ UPDATE MY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ROMs..
Don't worry.. CM10 is stable enough for all that, just don't get 10.1..
CM10 is very good, go for it

Sent from my MB526 using xda app-developers app
After downloading put those files in memory card....then go to recovery....and wipe cach/data/dalvik-cach/battery stats....and after doing all this flash the files....after flashing againg wipe the same things...n reboot thats it....no battery drops....no bugs....enjoy pure performance

CM10/CM10.1 are both extremely stable. To the point where CM10.1 is my main ROM; however the battery life is very bad, I get about 6h with 3G always on, but with 2G only you'd easily get a day

Well Cm10.1 is stable for me. If you only use 2G then it won't be much of a problem since your battery wont drain too fast
