Where do I go from here??? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey people! I purchased my Defy from someone on craigslist. The model is mb525 and I think its already rooted because it has the super user app already on it. I would like to update my defy to the latest problem free rom for daily usage but I really don't know what's done to it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

That's a very basic question, so I would suggest searching and reading, reading, reading.
Moved to Q&A. Please post all questions there.

Find out if it's green or red lens defy.
Find out what kernel it currently runs and what version of Android.
You can try CM7 for installation and you can move along with new ROMS as and when you get experience. PM me if you need help.

You have to read man, and be very careful wich ROM will u flash. Read this Post, it is very useful http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537

Naa...you don`t have tor read that much. It is pretty simple:
1. Check if you have bootmenu already installed (reboot; led should turn blue after a few seconds while moto logo is displayed). If not, just install it.
2. Find out what lens does your defy have (red/green) and what kernel is it using - as premaca has already mentioned. Settings>About Phone> Kernel Version. If it ends up in (...droid)07, 12 or 50 it is froyo kernel. If not it is GB kernel.
3. Decide what rom you want (cm10/9/7, MIUI...etc. Most of them work very good) I can`t help you here. It`s all about your taste. (I consider that cm7 is the most stable and powerful rom at this moment but just by a small margin.)
4. Follow installation guide for each ROM according to what lens you have (red/green). (I am pretty sure each developer described how to install his ROM)
Good luck!

[Q] ROM Manager for Defy

Hello, ok I've rooted my droid using superoneclick like just yesterday and I came across the app while I was checking the app store called ROM Manager.
According to this I wont have to do the complex flashing process which might brick my phone [ this is like my first time doing any of this].
So if I do use this app would I be able to get the stable version of cm9? is it possible and would it work just as well as the other process?
Could someone share a guide on how to go about this please?

[Q] Defy Jellybean CM10 Help!

*Don't respond with comments saying read this or that...
I have read the guides for moto defy mb525 U.S. tmobile and yet i don't understand a thing. I have a bionic and have rooted/flashed/sbf'd before so I have experience but not with this device. I tried understanding from the wiki and beginners guide yet it didn't help me at all. (I'm dumb)
MY Goal: Jellybean CM10 on my Defy
I am currently on froyo 2.2 and I don't understand how to get CM10
I have an original tmobile u.s. defy (Im pretty sure its green lens)
If someone can provide links I can learn:
What should I SBF to?
What should I use to root?
How do I flash cm9 kernel (I heard its the only way to get the CM10 working on a tmobile mb525)
Once I get a recovery I know how to flash and stuff I just want to be guided until I get to clockwork recovery and have the cm9 kernel flashed.
Please help, don't flame....its what makes this community great
Root it with SuperOneClick 1.9 for Defy! it should be somewhere on xda I dont know where use the search function...
Install 2nd INIT it should add cwm

Sorry Sir but its useless to flash CM10(current version) on MB525 coz its being made for MB526(Defy+). Your efforts will be in vein. Why not go for 4.0.4 by Eppy? Latest build is stable as hell!
I read that you can flash CM10 by quark on your green lens defy but of course camera won't work
I got soft reboots. And the current version can't make calls/text.
Go for CM9 its really getting into its groove now

Since you sound new to flashing roms, you shouldn't start off with an alpha rom you have to port, instead, start with an Epsy CM9 or Maniac103 CM7 -- both are stable and a good place to start learning about rom flashing.
***Before you start flashing sbf's, you should read the sbf thread and find an sbf you like that's on the same BL version you're currently on, or if out of warranty, flash a bl6 sbf so you can switch between the GB and Froyo kernels. I'm not going to go into BL versions anymore, but that's one of the most important things you need to learn when flashing Defy roms and sbfs.***
For rooting, I use SuperOneClick 1.9.5. Then just enable non-market apps and install Defy 2nd-Init Recovery, reboot into it, select wipe data\factory reset, then flash cm7 or 9 followed by the appropriate version of gapps. Those steps will soon become second nature, to the point where you can root and flash a custom rom in your sleep.
All the tools and roms can be found by searching the forums. Good Luck and welcome to the wonderful world of custom roms.

2ndboot builds and stock kernel.

Hello everyone, I would like to know if the new 2ndboot builds can be used with the stock kernel by just selecting "2ndinit" from the bootmenu. why would I want something like this? because there are new fixes in those builds but I don't want to use a custom kernel yet, I would feel safer when it's more tested.
(Btw I own a Defy+)
PS: Oh, if this was mentioned in somewhere else in the forum, I apologize for this post, but I did the search and didn't find anything that concretely answers this question.
Thanks .

No you can't use together.
You use 2nd init or you use 2nd boot.

The only detrimental effect with new builds is battery drain. It can be solved by not using zram, swap and ksm ...which in a way gives u almost the same effect of the ****ty stock kernel.

Both MB525 and 526 have the OMAP3630 processor. In MB525 it is underclocked to 800Mhz, while in MB526 it is clocked at 1Ghz.

I am rooted all ready.
The problems I am facing with the original rom now, is that I can not save data or photos on my sd card and I can not use the youtube app, because it says that I have no connection. But i can i browse through the web, check my emails and download apps via play store.
So I've taken the decision, that it is time flash another rom in my device.
Where do I download 2ndinit?
Thanks in advance.
I've finally got CM7 in my android. I love the GUI. It's like having a new phone in my hands.
The next step is to get android 4.x if it's possible.
