Sync'ing and ICS, can it be done? - Acer Iconia A500

I use to be able to sync my contacts and a folder from the desktop, but since i have updated to ICS the tab for Iconia Tab under "Accounts & Sync" is grayed out, and if you go to "add account" the Tab is no longer listed as a option, is there fix for this ?

Bump

What were you using to sync a folder on your desktop? You are supposed to be able to sync with ICS. Are you running stock ICS?

I was stock before the ICS update, and the sync option was not grayed out, then ICS came out i did the upgrade OTA and now the sync option is grayed out.... i have read on other forums of the same issue.
Just out of curiosity check yours and let me know if it is gray'd out as well..
BTW the email sync options still work... but "no can do" via USB

i think you can go to google.com > login > then go to google contacts> download in some sort of file, i did this recently. hope it helps

Could you clarify please? It seems to me that you may be using Acer Sync to sync contacts and that folder but you haven't mentioned it.
If you are using Acer Sync, then it's possible you need to get a new version if possible, though it seems to not have been updated recently.
If you haven't used Acer sync then please go into detail about what and how you go about syncing your tablet.
Thanks.

how about using airdroid?

I have update all software and ever re-set , nothing , all i want is a simple USB sync to my computer...why is Acer making this so difficult to achieve..

Bump, anyone found a way to fix this yet ?

If you're talking about Acer Sync, then you're out of luck because Acer Sync is not compatible with ICS currently. I don't think they will be updating it as I see no Acer Sync on their flagship Android device atm (usually when they have the intention of updating apps, you'll see them on the most expensive devices asap).
My advice to you would be to attempt workaround solutions. I keep folders synced through the use of Box, Dropbox, Evernote and Sugarsync - mostly through Dropbox though as that is easiest and best suits me. Sugarsync may be better for you as that will automatically download the files to your tablet. Dropbox allows you to see the file and download it by using or selecting to download it. I keep my emails and calendars synced through the use of Gmail and Google Calendar.
If your problem is that you don't have or don't want to use Wifi to sync, I'm sure you can find some USB syncing PIM app on the Play Store.
I know, this is probably not what you want to hear.
Good Luck.

Well I have right now ICS OTA 4.0.3 and and use DejaOffice for sincronize whit Outlook calendar, contacts, notes and tasks I left the use of AcerSync since I have Honeycomb 3.2, DejaOffice is good to sincronize via USB and WIFI it´s not free but worth the cost.

Import .ics file into Android Calendar.

My customers schedule appointments on my website. The scheduling service sends an email with a .ics file attached. If I view this email in Gmail on my desktop I get the option to "Add To Calendar", but when I view it either through the Gmail app or the Email app on my Dream I can't open the attachment or add the event to my calendar. My old Windows Mobile phone let me import it to the phone an then synced with Google Cal over the air, I bought the Android phone because I use a lot of Google apps for my business, but I need to be able to import these .ics appointments or this phone is not worth the upgrade. Can anyone help?
I have a few calendars imported into my Google Calendar on my desktop. First up log into your desktop with your google account and view your calendar. Import all the .ics you want and make sure its all working, they should appear as events.
Once that's done, force a re-sync on your G1 mobile and it should appear on your mobile from there on in. Hope that helps.
RE:
Ya. That's opposite of what I want. I don't want to have to open the mail on my desktop/laptop first. I know if I log onto Gmail via my desktop I can add them to Google Cal easily, but I want to be able to open them on my Dream so I don't HAVE to go to my desktop.
Did you find your answer
I am also struggling with the same thing... emails on my android phone do not display "add to calendar" option...very frustrating
There is somethng called ICS Bot on the Android market supposed to fix this, but I have't got it working yet.

Just downloaded this. Works like a charm. Thanks a bunch.
Worked for one or two meeting requests, but most of them says no event data... Getting my events from Outlook appointments that I forward as an ICS file. Also, any chance of adding vcs support as well?
Thanks!

Hi,
you can try my app Link
i can handle really complex ics files so there should be no problem with you exported calendar.
Hello!
I am also facing the problem of importing ics from sdcard. calendarsync works until the first screen timeout and then it erases all the events for some reason!

I also published an Android App on this topic. It is called Invitation Processor. There is also a free version in the market.
Actually I have done some work on Android 4.0 (ICS) support. Unfortunately I have no real Android 4.0 device, but it works with an emulated Android 4.0.
I would appreciate, if someone with a Galaxy Nexus could give me some feedback.

This should probably go elsewhere but you have no contact details at the market page (http://www.appbrain.com/app/invitation-processor-free/com.marhinri.invitationproc.trial etc), or in app. That is normally enough for me to uninstall and look for another app.
Anyway your fix worked but:
1. It should remember my choice of calendar as default for next time
2. It doesn't handle repeating appointments (creates first occurance).
3. Importing the same appointment twice (accidently) creates a duplicate rather than your app detecting the issue.
Bye,
Dennis

Calendar help.

Is there any way to get the calendar app to completly disable the "My Calendar" part?
When adding new entries in calendar, i have to manualy chose google calendar each time i add a new event. I want google calendar to be the default calendar. I tried only checking google calendar in settings (unchecked My Calendar), but each time i add an event, i have to manualy chose google calendar even though My Calendar is unchecked in settings
I know its probably not a very big deal for some, but i have set up google calendar to sync with phone and outlook, and chances are, ill forget to chose the google calendar when adding an event on more than one occasion
("My Calendar" wont sync in google calendar, so thats why i have to use google calendar)
Any help would realy be apreciated. Thanks!
(PS: My phone is rooted and im using fw JM2 if that can help in any way)
I agree, this is a big irritation. I keep quickly doing calendar entries and forgetting to select google calendar, then when I check on my desktop the event isn't there. I really hope there is a fix for this.

I agree, the single most annoying part of the phone for me !!! We need a fix either from Samsung or the Dev community. Anyone know how to contact the correct departmen tin Samsung for a fix?
Good to hear it isnt just me who is annoyed of this. When you uncheck "My Calendar" in settings, it should set google to the default choice when adding a new calendar entry.
Hope someone can fix this.

Is there a customization what would allow me to record calendar items which takes place

- Happen the last wednesday of every month?
I find the stock calendar too limiting in this aspect, and wonder if that can be fixed.

What the hell was I thinking. Of course I don't have that much patience.
I tried it and yes! it solves the issue. Calendar entries are saved by default as google calender entries. Thank you... (BTW I did it using this "manual")
I guess the same will work with the standard contact application (same problem there)
Thanks for that info!! I will give it a try as soon as i have some spare time

Im not sure, but if you use Google Calendar sync to sync 2-way between Outlook and gmail, then gmail sync against google calendar on phone i think you can do this if you put the entry into Outlook. (Maybe google online calendar has this function aswell, not sure, the Samsung Calendar does not as you pointed out earlier)
The way to do it would be like this:
Add the entry in Outlook.
Sync against gmail with google calendar sync. (This can be done automaticly on different intervals with Google Calendar Sync)
Sync phone google calendar with "online" google calendar. (This can of course also be set up to be synced automaticly from the phone)
This should in theory work
Please give feedback if you try it.
Hey.
Where is TouchWizCalendar.apk & .odex, TouchWizCalendarProvider.apk & .odex, and InfoAlarm.apk & .odex located?
Nm, found it
/system/app for those else who wonder.
But unfortunatly, there is no com.android.calendar.apk or com.android.provider.calendar.apk in the Manage Applications list. (Even though i filtered with all)
Apperantly this doesnt work in JM2

Facebook will not sync with contacts

Just got my new replacement DX, having trouble. I got and add my facebook account to try and sync. When I go to Contacts>Menu>More>Manage Accounts> and click my facebook account, it has the login and says "remove account" then at the bottom it says OK and Cancel. OK brings me back. When I click on the google, it lets me sync.
How do i sync all of my facebook contacts if its not letting me?
Open your facebook app and go menu-settings and at the bottom should be sync contacts.

Thanks! I was having the same problem.
When I open the FB app then scroll down in the settings the last option I see is "Other Settings" but I cannot scroll down to it. It is like that is the end of the menu. I see no setting to do this All my contats still show their original picture when I first setup my phone and new friends do not get added.

There's no need to be rooted in order to install the apks I provided. You may have become unrooted because you finally received the newest update, it's possible I don't know if that is why though

[Q] Chrome's tabs doesn't sync with Nexus 7

Hi,
I can sync all I want from my chrome account from a desktop to another, but the tabs sync just doesn't work (when the bookmarks are syncing very well).
When I try to activate the Android Chrome preference "Open tabs" in the sync section, and I come back, the option just unchecked itself. It used to work perfectly, and as I remember, I did not change anything to my tablet, computer or Google account. Everything is up to date on both my computer and Nexus 7, the OS and the Apps.
Did I miss something?
Hope that I did post in the good section. If not, i'll be happy to move this thread.

Identical problem here. My last sync appears to have been 3 days ago —*I suspect a recent Chrome update broke it. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting my account from both desktop Chrome and Nexus Chrome with no success. My Galaxy Nexus is having no problems.

Tired the same things, still no luck. You have no problems with you Galaxys Nexus, I suppose you have this issu on your Nexus 7?
Yes, my problem is with the N7.
Same problem on my GS2
I've had this same problem on my SGS2 running cm10 for more than 2 weeks now. The open tabs sync settings option keeps unchecking itself. I've tried disconnecting my account on both my PC and GS2. I've even deleted data and reinstalled Chrome to no avail.
I think we'll all be very relieved to know that it's Google's fault. I can't post links, but Ars Technica just wrote an article on it titled "Why Gmail went down: Google misconfigured Chrome's sync server"
FIX
It doen't answer the question, but it solves the issue.
Following this procedure ended up fixing the problem for me:
- Export your bookmark, just to be sure
- Sign out from every Chrome client you have (desktop, android...)
- Go to your Google Dashboard
- Erase all the sync activity
- Wait for it to finish (a couple of minutes should does the trick)
- Log back in
- Import back your bookmarks (it shouldn't be necessary)
The tabs are now syncing.
Note: if you type "about:sync" in the omnibar, it should give you the errors about the sync function.
Hope this will work for you too.
Solution
Here's the solution that will fix your problem.
Follow the instructions below, do not skip any steps.
Desktop Chrome Settings
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Advanced Sync Settings
3. Choose either Sync Everything or ensure Open Tabs is ticked
Android Settings
1. Go to your System Settings
2. Under Accounts, go to Google
3. Select your Google Account email address
4. Ensure Chrome is ticked
Android Chrome Settings
1. Go to Settings
2. Under Basics, click on your Google Account email address
3. Tick Chrome to Mobile
4. Click on Sync
5. Choose either Sync Everything or ensure Open Tabs is ticked
Now, the tabs you open in your desktop will be available on your Android, under the Synced Tab (at the bottom, next to the Favourites (star) tab).
The tabs you open in your Android will also be available on your desktop, under Menu -> Recent Tabs.
