Import .ics file into Android Calendar. - G1 General

My customers schedule appointments on my website. The scheduling service sends an email with a .ics file attached. If I view this email in Gmail on my desktop I get the option to "Add To Calendar", but when I view it either through the Gmail app or the Email app on my Dream I can't open the attachment or add the event to my calendar. My old Windows Mobile phone let me import it to the phone an then synced with Google Cal over the air, I bought the Android phone because I use a lot of Google apps for my business, but I need to be able to import these .ics appointments or this phone is not worth the upgrade. Can anyone help?

I have a few calendars imported into my Google Calendar on my desktop. First up log into your desktop with your google account and view your calendar. Import all the .ics you want and make sure its all working, they should appear as events.
Once that's done, force a re-sync on your G1 mobile and it should appear on your mobile from there on in. Hope that helps.

RE:
Ya. That's opposite of what I want. I don't want to have to open the mail on my desktop/laptop first. I know if I log onto Gmail via my desktop I can add them to Google Cal easily, but I want to be able to open them on my Dream so I don't HAVE to go to my desktop.

Did you find your answer
I am also struggling with the same thing... emails on my android phone do not display "add to calendar" option...very frustrating

There is somethng called ICS Bot on the Android market supposed to fix this, but I have't got it working yet.

Works for me
USing dell streak
Steves version 2.2

Ics bot doesn't work for me using a Vibrant with Froyo. Receiving an error when importing the ics file. "No events found in calendar data".

I've had this issue for awhile, so I decided to write up an app to address it.
It's called "Iscer" and is Free in the market.
Hope it helps,

Just downloaded this. Works like a charm. Thanks a bunch.

Worked for one or two meeting requests, but most of them says no event data... Getting my events from Outlook appointments that I forward as an ICS file. Also, any chance of adding vcs support as well?
Thanks!

Couldn't get it to recognize an ICS sent from a BlackBerry.
Says 'No Events Found'

Hi,
you can try my app Link
i can handle really complex ics files so there should be no problem with you exported calendar.

Hello!
I am also facing the problem of importing ics from sdcard. calendarsync works until the first screen timeout and then it erases all the events for some reason!

I also published an Android App on this topic. It is called Invitation Processor. There is also a free version in the market.
Actually I have done some work on Android 4.0 (ICS) support. Unfortunately I have no real Android 4.0 device, but it works with an emulated Android 4.0.
I would appreciate, if someone with a Galaxy Nexus could give me some feedback.

Thanks for your reply! I think that was easy to fix. I already updated the app in market. Please give this a try.

This should probably go elsewhere but you have no contact details at the market page (http://www.appbrain.com/app/invitation-processor-free/com.marhinri.invitationproc.trial etc), or in app. That is normally enough for me to uninstall and look for another app.
Anyway your fix worked but:
1. It should remember my choice of calendar as default for next time
2. It doesn't handle repeating appointments (creates first occurance).
3. Importing the same appointment twice (accidently) creates a duplicate rather than your app detecting the issue.
Bye,
Dennis

whoa! This actually seems to work!
I downloaded invitation processor on my galaxy nexus. I sent a mtg from my lotus notes client and my outlook client and both worked.
I'll try to do some more testing and let you know if I see any issues, but for at least the simple case I had it worked nicely. Thanks!

Hi, I've been using this for a while now and it works like a dream....but now with the ICS update it's not working at all, it keeps crashing.
Has anyone found a decent replacement for this app, one that will take in google calendar entries from before 2 months ago?
Cheers

Original Android 2.1 Email Client

For those interested in original client available in "pure" Android 2.1 - here it is!
For me it's much more better than the HTC's one.
PS. God give us root to get rid of all that crappy HTC bloatware
What are the advantages of the original email app over HTC's version?
I like its look and feel, htc's one is too glossy. The same applies to music app.
Just try it yourself,it can be installed in parallel with htc one.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Is there anyway to get the app to delete the original emails off the server?
THANKS!!! it is awsome! Finnaly my emailsending works accross IMAP and TLS. With built in HTC email client it not works.
Np
As for deleting emails - don't know if you're talking about pop or imap. In imap you have to delete mail from trash to get rid of them.
Didn't tested this app with pop3, so don't know if tere is an option to "delete from server after download". But I think that there could be no such option to prevent user from mistakes.
But .... it's source is available via source.android.com... and it can be tuned, or feature can be requested.
Thanks, sorted my mail sending across SSL.
The stock HTC mail app is eating up the memory. After 3 days, I had 30 MB of mail data, and erasing all Accounts did not helped. The 30 MB was still there, so I had to make a Factory Reset. Thanks for this app!!
Thanks for this.
Does this app allow searching of emails, in particular Exchange?
I noticed, or haven't found, the search feature for the HTC Mail app :/
This works great on Legend, nice to see a bit of stock Eclair.

I would love to have this feature! I understand WinMob does this on exchange 2007...
I think I overlooked the obvious, pressing the search button!
Didn't give me results for my search, going to look into the number of emails the phone has access to, either copied to phone or on the server. I suspect the string I searched for was too far in the past.
[edit] Shame, only searches sender names and subject line :/
So, i installed this on my incredible and configured it to work with my office exchange account... set it up as push, and it never updated... went into the sync settings and it was in there, but was showing that it wasn't set to auto sync and i couldn't get it to sync from there.. originally when i first set it up, it was able to connect and download my past emails, but nothing after that.. I know i'm in the desire section of the site, so it may just be that ti's not gunna work on my Incredible right now, but i was wondering if root is required to use this?

don't know if i understood you correctly but i can search my exchange 2007 mail from my phone...

thanks alot, this is so much better than sense's version, actually so much stock android 2.2 stuff is better than sense i'm thinking of rooting for 2.2
This force closes when I have an email with an attachment in my inbox, really annoying.
Does it require root?
Does this application require root access or can I install it even if the phone is unrooted? Another question -- Does this get me the combined inbox?

Calendar help.

Is there any way to get the calendar app to completly disable the "My Calendar" part?
When adding new entries in calendar, i have to manualy chose google calendar each time i add a new event. I want google calendar to be the default calendar. I tried only checking google calendar in settings (unchecked My Calendar), but each time i add an event, i have to manualy chose google calendar even though My Calendar is unchecked in settings
I know its probably not a very big deal for some, but i have set up google calendar to sync with phone and outlook, and chances are, ill forget to chose the google calendar when adding an event on more than one occasion
("My Calendar" wont sync in google calendar, so thats why i have to use google calendar)
Any help would realy be apreciated. Thanks!
(PS: My phone is rooted and im using fw JM2 if that can help in any way)
I agree, this is a big irritation. I keep quickly doing calendar entries and forgetting to select google calendar, then when I check on my desktop the event isn't there. I really hope there is a fix for this.

I agree, the single most annoying part of the phone for me !!! We need a fix either from Samsung or the Dev community. Anyone know how to contact the correct departmen tin Samsung for a fix?
Good to hear it isnt just me who is annoyed of this. When you uncheck "My Calendar" in settings, it should set google to the default choice when adding a new calendar entry.
Hope someone can fix this.

Is there a customization what would allow me to record calendar items which takes place
- once every two weeks?
- Happen the last wednesday of every month?
I find the stock calendar too limiting in this aspect, and wonder if that can be fixed.

What the hell was I thinking. Of course I don't have that much patience.
I tried it and yes! it solves the issue. Calendar entries are saved by default as google calender entries. Thank you... (BTW I did it using this "manual")
I guess the same will work with the standard contact application (same problem there)
Thanks for that info!! I will give it a try as soon as i have some spare time

Im not sure, but if you use Google Calendar sync to sync 2-way between Outlook and gmail, then gmail sync against google calendar on phone i think you can do this if you put the entry into Outlook. (Maybe google online calendar has this function aswell, not sure, the Samsung Calendar does not as you pointed out earlier)
The way to do it would be like this:
Add the entry in Outlook.
Sync against gmail with google calendar sync. (This can be done automaticly on different intervals with Google Calendar Sync)
Sync phone google calendar with "online" google calendar. (This can of course also be set up to be synced automaticly from the phone)
This should in theory work
Please give feedback if you try it.
Hey.
Where is TouchWizCalendar.apk & .odex, TouchWizCalendarProvider.apk & .odex, and InfoAlarm.apk & .odex located?
Nm, found it
/system/app for those else who wonder.
But unfortunatly, there is no com.android.calendar.apk or com.android.provider.calendar.apk in the Manage Applications list. (Even though i filtered with all)
Apperantly this doesnt work in JM2
Other people with JM2 have also reported problems installing the APK`s.

It worked like a charm on JM2 and now on JG5 .... I followed the instruction quite literally. (rebooted between every step etc etc)
Well, i cant uninstall the calendar stuff since it isnt listed in application manager, thats probably why i cant install the apk`s.

gmail attachment issue question

I had read or hear somewhere that there is an issue with attachments in gmail on the note 10.1 Is this confirmed by users who have one and use gmail or just a bad reviewer. Still trying to decide on Infinity or 10.1 and this is very important to me.
Thanks in advance.
I assume you mean using the stock e-mail client. I don't imagine the GMail app would behave any differently on the Note than it does anywhere else.

Just install a file manager app like Astro and you will be able to attach any file in the GMail app.

I don't have this problem.
No probs with attachments here, neither Samsung client nor original Gmail.
The Samsung client only sometimes won't download integrated pictures in emails like company logos.
No issues for me either. Just bad reviewers.
No he didn't mean the stock email client he meant gmail. Within gmail you only get these options (gallery or dropbox) stock for attachments but you can also send stuff initiating outside gmail using the share options in what ever app your in.
Also as gdirks says installing a file manager will let you choose whatever.

I have to admit that's pretty stupid. In my pics that's GMail being used via ActiveSync and you can see the stock e-mail client has Samsung's My Files app as the number one option. It also gives the option of sending content created in the S-tools. There's no reason (that I can think of) that the GMail app shouldn't behave the same way. At least to your point the problem can be solved by installing a third party file manager.

yes that is correct, installing a file manager like x-plore or solid explorer will work just fine.

Yup, agreed it shouldn't but it's samsung's terrible software design at work here. Maybe it was an honest oversight and they will fix it. I say we pressure them to do so. I'm sure someone will figure out how to fix it soon enough on xda but the whole point is that we shouldn't have to fix things like that, it should work just like stock aosp android.
I really don't want to setup gmail as active sync.
A friend also had the same issue. On my Galaxy Note 10.1 I had a slection for "attach video". Fixed the problem with this app: [I'm not allowed to post links- sorry]. Go to Play Store and search on "Attachments [Gmail Attach]"
I have no relationship with this developer. Cheers, David

Apps that show your MS Exchange calendar appointments

Being new to the Android world having come from the Windows Mobile environment I am perplexed to see how I can display my calendar details from my work's MS Exchange server. I have the emails and contacts working fine but all the Apps and Wiggits I have seen so far don't seem to work for the calendar. Surely someone else other there wants to have their work calendar on their S4 so could you advise me how you have done it? Many thanks in anticipation.

Many thanks. I have actually done that and while it works for email and contacts, the calendar doesn't sync. I has contacted the company for advice but also noted a number of discussions around the wider problem of sync'ing between MS Exchange and Android devices. Would be interested in knowing if there are any widgets out there that show your appointments stored on MS Exchange?
I use my business email via exchange server using the stock email app,
Widget calendar and email works flawlessly,
Sync also does push in realtime

Rats.
Google is your friend. Search for the app with a version number that (according to the Wiki) should run on 2.1
Of course, that's what I did, but you might have more luck. Or (hopefully) someone who is using it will see this thread. There are a number of old threads with app packages attached. A copy might be in one of them. I remember people touting it long ago.
Edit: a search of the forum turned up no old copies of the app for me, but I did run across a post complaining about the wake-lock in K9 and Gmail. If you're not wedded to K9, I use a very simple email app which does not skulk in the background waiting for a connection. That means you have to manually check mail. You might want to take a look at it.

OK, so never say "never". The attached K9 apk file installs on my NST and displays at least the first page I figure that's worth looking at. BTW, on that first page it states that it does not work with Hotmail....
Anyway, give it a whirl.

Thanks!!!
I found an old apk for hotmail and that seems to work (even imports contacts from hotmail)...so I should be all set (re gmail + hotmail)....
Browser (Opera), email (K9 and hotmail), RSS (greader), news (BBC, Engadget,...); readers (kindle; have not tried Google books app yet). a few games (Chess Pro, Landrule, ...), and a few useful utilities (Button Savior, Mathsapp calculator, ...) and the Go Launcher.
Also was a lot of work (finding apk that still work under Android 2.1)....I will probably look into alternative e-readers later this year (such as inkBook Prime and Co)....

Yep, kind of an interesting scavenger hunt at times. There are two packages of apps which might contain something you'd like to try in this thread.
