Calendar sync - Kindle Fire General

I have my KF rooted and the aneroid market installed and running, and Google apps installed. Is there a way to get my Google calendar to sync to my kindle?

Which Google apps do you have installed, do you have your Gmail synced? That should allow you to sync your calendar
Go into your "Account & Sync Settings" and make sure calendar is checked marked

Account and sync settings on my computer? On the kindle there is no account and sync settings. Yes I have Gmail synced on my kf.

as far as i know you have to add GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk and GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk to system/app - set permissions like the others and reboot - then gmail mail & calender sync should work ...

There is an account sync settings app you can get from the market, out it is included in the iffy utility. You also need the calendar sync adapter which you can get from another Android device or the iffy utility.

there are a lot of settings on the kf we cannot access but there is a app on the market called "any cut" - with this app you can link the hidden settings to a shortcut on the desktop - any cut -> new shortcut -> activity -> Account & Sync Settings
there are a lot of others like keyboard, display, search ...

I tried the any cut app and now I have it all.set up. But I think you are right about the apks. Do you know where I can get them? And better yet..... what do I do with them? All I have done is root my kindle and followed the you tube video in how to get the market on my kindle.

I think the calendar files you're looking for might be in the gapps.zip file from this thread. Just follow the instructions.

Here's the sync settings app, install this and then you can add your gmail account and etc
I've also attached the Google Calendar in case you might need it, you can install all of them

Awesome! Thanks. It seems that I am no longer rooted?! Is it possible that while my 3 year old was playing around with my kf she unrooted it? Odd....my android marketplace still works, its just that root checker is saying I am no longer rooted. Will start from scratch in the morning.
Thanks again.

Hmmm, did you have root access after you received the 6.2.2. update?

There's no need to be rooted in order to install the apks I provided. You may have become unrooted because you finally received the newest update, it's possible I don't know if that is why though

How can I login to Android Market with a different Google account?

I've rooted my Fire and installed the Android Market without a problem. When I
first opened the market I logged in with my Google account to make sure everything
worked. Since I got this device for my dad, I'd rather he log in with his own Google
account. I've cleared the app data, and even deleted and re-installed. I can't get
the option to log in with a different google account and it stays with mine. Is there
a solution to this? Has anyone else experienced this?
Without access to the Account and Sync menu, I believe you'll need to uninstall and do a fresh reinstall of the market
I've uninstalled the market and re-installed with the apk. Or is there a more precise uninstall I should be doing?
In the Android development subforum here the long how to install market thread has reference to getting gmail to sync and those posts reference another thread with a link to a Sync Settings app. That will allow you to add another gmail account or delete one in addition to setting up sync items and auto sync. If I knew the post I'd gladly supply it but all I remember is where I found reference to the app.
Then just add your dad's email then subtract yours. Then to market and your set.
Added: found reference in a thread in this subforum on syncing contacts: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19461785&postcount=2

Worked great. I installed "Quick Sync Settings" from the market. Thank you for providing that link.
I just hit "menu" and added an account from the Market. Or maybe GMail. It was pretty simple, really.
The menu from the market app wash giving me the option. Not until I added another gmail account through the sync settings it did.
Hi I have a similar question but just about the amazon app store. I have been using a separate email account to buy apps than the one to buy all my kindles and books. Is there any work around to have both amazon.com accounts logged in or to keep the apps and books installed while I am on my other account or the other?
I have rooted the tablet and have my google market running fine so I might just have to stick to that.
Thank you
Can't you install Anycut from the android market, open it, create new activity, select accounts and sync or whatever the activity is called, and then go from there?
Additionally can you open the Gmail app, menu, accounts, add account...from here, go to the android market and then you should have 2 different gmail accounts to choose between?

Thanks for that. I tried it and it crashes the system. I actually have two account from google on my market, but my main problem is accessing the apps that are registered to my gmail account. Mainly because my kindle account is a separate email and every time you deregister the Kindle it deletes your books or installs the apps.

Anyone figure out how to remove the main gmail account without having to do a factory reset? I made the mistake of putting in an email address I didn't want to have added. I've already tried adding a second GMail account and removing the primary and got the prompt to factory reset.

Rooted fire with Google apps installed. Ive accidentally gotten to the sync settings page when in a Google app but cant figure out how to get back. This does not appear to work for me since the upgrade to Google Play Store, so here's another way I found: Gmail -> Accounts -> Menu -> Account settings
Accts & Sync
You should be able to change all the settings from Accounts & Sync under the general settings.

Google Calendar

I hope someone can help me. I've rooted, added Gapps without a problem. I just can't get my Google Contacts to show up.
Is there anyway you do this. I have tried a few Contact.apks to no avail. I've set permissions.
What do you all think?
Thank you,
John
You don't seem to be able to use the Google Contacts app, it doesn't work because it has phone hooks that aren't available on the KF (unless there is a tablet specific version which I haven't seen). You'll need to use the built in Contacts app, which will sync fine with Google if you have the sync adapter.
Here is the version I ripped off my phone - GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk, drop this in /system/app, and set the permissions to rw-r--r--
You are my hero. . . for today. Unless CM7 comes out today.
If you have an Android phone, there are a lot of files you can test out in your KF. I moved a couple files from my Droid 3 to the KF to increase functionality. Including the CalendarSyncService.
Slightly off topic but does anybody know what files handle the "Add shortcut" option in the CarDock? I tried a couple of the Application... files but none worked. Thanks!
One other thing to mention that I've found a fix for is that as well as syncing just "My Contacts", it also syncs "Other Contacts" as well. Other contacts are people you've sent emails to that aren't necessarily in your contacts list already. I just didn't care to see these on my KF, so there is a two step process for getting rid of them if you so desire.
1. Tick and then delete all the "Other Contacts" via the Gmail web interface, making sure that any of the ones you need to keep are created in "My Contacts".
2. In Mail Settings under the General tab there is a setting called "Create contacts for auto-complete". Set this to "I'll add contacts myself".
This should clear the Kindle Fire (assuming you have added the sync apk mentioned above) of the rouge contacts and ensure that any new ones don't get a Contact added under "Other Contacts".
Has anyone gotten this working for the Google Calendar app?
There was some sort of Amazon Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk in the system app folder but I overwrote those with the Google ones from my phone. Maybe I need those original files to get it to work? Can anyone pull them from their system/app folder and upload a copy?

Yup, it's working perfectly. Grab the two .apk's from this post and follow the instructions.
Did you rename the google .apks, or just chose to replace the existing Amazon ones when tyring to install? Sorry, I would pull the original Amazon ones for you but I'm at work and left my KF at home. If they're not up by the time I get home I'll put them up.

Here's the CalendarProvider.apk and for some reason I don't have an AmazonCalendar.apk in /system/app. My /data folder is completely empty (unrooted, so idk if that's why it's empty) so it may be in there. Maybe someone else can post that one? If not I'll root again tonight or tomorrow and post it for you.
Sorry, I'm not gonna have time right now. Oh, and btw this is the first time I've tried pulling an .apk off the KF so please let me know if I didn't do it correctly.
It worked, thank you!
Cool, glad I could help.

Btw, I don't care much for it because I use the Calendar most in Agenda view, but does your month view look like this with an orange Android?
Edit: Nvm, there was a copy of calendar.apk in system/app that wasn't supposed to be there and removing that fixed it

Woah, no it doesn't. It's just the standard month view.
tried this and follow every step, still can't get contacts and calendar to sync.
gmail doens't really sync either, have to manually refresh each time. is it because I have an account set up under the default email client?
I have copied the calendar sync adapter and contacts sync adapter to /system/app and chmod 0644 it. then i rebooted and installed calendar.apk normally. doesn't appear to work.
gmail I have the option for sync for my email set to on, but I don't think it's working.
Am I missing something? Market is working fine, apps install normally.
Are you sure that the permissions for the GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk and GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk files in system/app look like this..?

For Calendar: When you go into Menu>More>Calendars are the calendars your trying to sync visible and synced? It took a few minutes for my events to properly load up.
Gmail: From inbox, Menu>Accounts>Menu>Account settings>[email protected] and make sure Gmail is selected (as well as any other google servies you want synced). My gmail was turned off initially. I also made the mistake of thinking Menu>More>Settings was the only sync option for gmail.
Don't have contacts set up, sorry.

My experience is, after setting amazon's default e-mail app,
gmail.app also can use contacts.
But I don't know which one app works.
Maybe either GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk or amazon contacts works.
Does anyone get a grey bar at the top of their Google Calendar that partially covers the first row of dates in the month view and the midnight hour block in the other views? How do I get rid of it?
I am also struggling with calendar sync. My other apps recognize my account (gmail/reader/music), but my calendars don't show up in settings.
Device is rooted, permissions applied, and contacts are synced.

[Q] Facebook contact syncing

Rooted 6.2.2: I have the FB app installed from the market. Is there a way to have the contacts sync with FB like on the phone? Is there a FB contact sync adapter similar to the googlecontacts and calendar sync adapters? I have those currently working.
Thanks
When I installed it the app asked me if I wanted to sync on first run.
Check under settings>accounts & sync. There should be a setting for it there. (there is in mine)

In the FB app I don't have a accounts & sync option. In the sync settings for the Fire there are no settings for FB, only google.
Have you tried removing it and re-installing? When I first ran it after installation it gave me 3 options for syncing... all FB contacts, existing contacts, or none.
Either something didn't install right, or 6.2.2 is blocking a component. I'm running the ICS ROM, and it worked with CM7 as well.

Thanks for the reply. I uninstalled the app, the fb app does not show up for me in either the market or Amazon market. I think when I installed it before I had backed up and sideloaded it from my phone.
Any suggestions?
If you sideloaded it is it still in the /sdcard directory so you can install it again? Or did you delete it afterwards?

Good thinking....I installed it again but it never asked about any syncing options.
If you are on stock its a no go as far as I know. Maybe if you installed account and sync settings but then you a, do not have the actual UI for the settings and b, the contacts app on stock is not the same app used on standard Android devices so neither the settings or the Facebook app you sideloaded will know how to talk to the amazon contacts app. I tried doing this also but then decided to go over to cm7,

I am on the stock rom, and do have the sync settings app installed. There are settings there for google contacts and calender syc because I installed those two sync adapters to /system/app and changed the permissions. Google Talk and Google Sync Settings

I originally posted this in another thread, but in case anyone else is interested, I got the ICS google talk installed on the kindle fire HD. I pulled 4.0.3 GoogleServicesFramework and talk from my Evo 3D and it installed on my rooted fire HD without a hitch. Gtalk works except a few minor things. Apparently the front camera is not supported, so anyone trying to contact you via camera or you trying to contact via camera will cause it to force close. Also voice chat is not functional and will force close. I've had the whole camera app crash out but a reboot brought it back. Regular text chat works with no problems.
My biggest issue is that Gtalk will seem to disconnect when the device is on sleep or out of the app for a period of time. I noticed that when I originally installed gingerbread talk on the kindle fire 1st gen, it had the same issue. I don't know if anyone has input on this on how to fix this issue, I haven't had much luck searching.
I noticed that my gmail app will not actively sync with my account (push mail) and am not sure if this is related to Gtalk losing connection. Everything else works fine, play store, maps, youtubeHD.
I threw in 4.0.3 GoogleLoginService for a complete set and have it installed myself.
I've had no problems but just a friendly reminder, everything done and installed is at your own risk.
If you install GoogleServicesFramework.apk, Talk.apk without a fully functional play store yet and can't log in, you will need to install the play store to sync your account first. Instructions can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893410 Follow the instructions and download the provided apk's on the link page. AFTER google play is up and running, you can update to 4.0.3 Google services and install ICS talk.
I was able to figure out my gmail sync/push problem. It's locked out by the amazon ecosystem but if you use AccountAndSyncSettings.apk, it can be unlocked and the gmail option in settings will allow you to use the stock android sync settings. I believe this is the gingerbread version but has been running on my ICS GoogleFramework. Gmail still has a slight delay over the stock fire HD email app but now if you want gmail fully functional, it works. I've had the notification bar temporarily disappear but appears to be due to a bug in Gmail app. I saw others mention something like this happening in another thread.
Downloaded Sync Settings from the play store for quick access, it allows you to choose between stock amazon settings and the android settings. This only works once you've installed AccountAndSyncSettings.apk
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.francesandmarky.android.syncsettings&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5mcmFuY2VzYW5kbWFya3kuYW5kcm9pZC5zeW5jc2V0dGluZ3MiXQ..
I have yet to figure out the gtalk disconnection issue. Any feedback will still be appreciated.
In the last picture, you can just use the sync settings app from the play store to access and manage your accounts. Mine goes in order of Amazon, Twitter, Facebook, Dropbox, Exchange and Gmail. Email addresses blocked out for privacy.
**** In order to fully activate google sync for the very first time, you need to turn on the sync settings through gmail first. Then you can use the sync settings shortcut app to get to the rest of your sync and manage from there. Again, this was done on a rooted 7.1.5 device with google play account active and done at your own risk.

After working on this issue all day and reading various information, I may have found a workaround to keep Gtalk signed in while the device is asleep.
After testing, I had found that Gtalk would still receive messages on a few minutes delay with the screen off. The message will be there but when turning on the screen and going to Gtalk, the interface would still display as "signed off" yet to others, I would be seen as "idle" and I would still have to log back in.
There was a missing link somewhere but I couldn't pin point it. Hoping eventually the devs will look into this issue and fix everything, including camera and mic support.
Currently, the work-around I figured out was to install Google+ app and sync my account. The app will keep the link open and no more unwanted log outs. I can't say how this will affect battery life at this time but Google+ is a widely used android app.
What seemed to work yesterday with my gtalk staying active decided to quit on me today, so back to square one. Still looking for any input on this matter.
Edit: right now this appears to be a slight bug in the gtalk program. The user is still signed in and shown as signed in to others on the gtalk list but the app on the kindle will need to re-login.
Thank you so much for your posting. It was full of tips and information. I was able to install the Google sync app and now my Google Voice application works. Before, it wouldn't even log be in. Now I can text from my Kindle HD. Thanks to you. You rock man!.

You need to go into gmail and enter the gmail settings. From there you can turn on sync.
Click on your email address there and the sync option to turn on will be in there.
I tried that way, but in my case not like the way in your picture, your system prompts an option so you can choose a sync setting app to change. When I touch my email address there, screen blinks then go back to gmail settings. Mine is 7.2.1.

Were you able to install it? This was done prior to the patch and I don't have this device anymore. You can try moving the apk to system/app, permissions rw-r-r and try installing it there.

I was able to install it from google store and did try to move app to /system/app. Still not work. I even downloaded and tried to install 5 different accountsyncsettings.apk from somewhere else but none works.
I even use nookcolortool from which I should be able to open account sync setting but failed.
I would have to give up.

I can't get Google Voice to sign in to my gmail account. The latest update requires to to re-sign in and it just keeps staying on the "signing on" part. Any advice?
maybe you can try copy voice.apk to system/app , then install it from there.
From my trials these days, gapps always get some troubles. So far in my device, I did root, then copy 6apps including superuser.apk, googleframework.apk, talk.apk, vending.apk, networklocation.apk, googleloginservice.apk to system/app, and after that I do a factory reset to let system reinitiate. My strategy is different from all current discussion in the forum. This way you have all basic apps and you can always do factory reset in future without redo root.
Based on this basic system, I downloaded from other internet sources and installed gmaps, play store, gmail, voice in my fire hd. So far all of them work well, except gmail can not sync automatically. Also no way to put in contacts and calendar.
I now am looking forward to safestrap.

Word of warning: I installed this accountandsyncsettings.apk and the sync settings from these directions. But my Kindle Books were no longer sync and most of my books didn't show up on the Kindle HD anymore. I ended up doing a factory restore.

Got everything working - except Talk! It just closes down before even starting. Play, Google+, Plus Messenger, all is well. Ideas?
Are you using the correct talk version with your Google services? The ones I posted is ICS, there are older services and talk files floating around that may cause incompatibility.

Lots of problems
I am hoping someone can help! I have a 8.9" Kindle Fire HD. It's rooted, the Play Store is installed and working OK, Maps works OK, and Google Voice works OK.
BUT - I can't get GMail to work. It says "Gmail Has Stopped". (Not, "Unfortunately, GMail has stopped.")
And, I cannot get the Sync Settings App that you mention to work either. Like GMail, it opens for a split second, then closes.
NEVER MIND...found the correct one. that fixed it

My gmail can not sync as well.
The way I am using is to utilize Amazon email app. But when you go through setting, choose exchange rather than gmail. If you have iphone or ipad, that is the way apple has to do for gmail. I got gmail and contact sync working well with no problem.

I have a problem with Gmail and Talk. I have two accounts on Play Store. One address with gmail.com extension and other one has a different extension but it is configured on Google Apps services so it is based to Gmail. When I add this address to Gmail, Gmail stops working. If I only add to @gmail.com address Gmail app works. Is there any solution for that?
P.S. On my Galaxy SII, my both address works without any problem with any Google apps.
