as you can see in the attached screenshots i am currently running 4.0.4 and i don't have the system/vendor/app folder, all my apps are in system/app!
i'm sure that many of you know that the system/vendor/app folder causes many problems with removing system apps using TB, i think that was solved after i ran this:

My arc S never had this vendor/app folder and I did nothing special other than flash the 4.0.4 ftf. Sure this folder isn't for the arc release only?

i have an arc s too, this problem is also for the arc s
Strange. I did a full wipe and fresh install. I wonder why my install is different? Not that it matters I guess.

Guys, this problem is ony for ARC (LT15)

Guys,
The Vendor folder exist on both devices, but on LT15 Firmware the vendor is a partition and include apps, different from LT18 where the folder is only for configuration and is inside SYSTEM partition.
Because of this is that LT15 has a small SYSTEM partition when flash the LT15 firmware.
What I did was flash LT15 firmware, make a backup of SYSTEM and VENDOR folder with ADB and TAR, and then flash LT18 SYSTEM and USERDATA partition only (with FlashTool). This remakes the partition table and resize SYSTEM and DATA partition to ~400mb.
Than after flash SYSTEM and USERDATA from LT18, I format the SYSTEM partition and restore both SYSTEM e VENDOR backup that I make, placing the configuration files of VENDOR partition in folder VENDOR of SYSTEM partition, and moving the APKs from APP folder in VENDOR to APP folder on SYSTEM root.
This worked perfectly, and now I have all APKs in SYSTEM/APP and the partition size of LT18 firmware with LT15 firmware.
@ OverLo4d wen u flashed ur fone using my mothod did u flash with the right firmware for ur handset is all i can think of atm i dont have hands on an arc s to feedback on it my bro was supose to pick one up on the 30th but he went working away and the way u mentioned in the pic is that for the free or paid version of the app as i dont have the paid app either and dont have credit/debit card to buy it..
edit sorry missread the people who have arc s with root locked bootloaders maybe when the links were screwed up when the op was first open u might have downloaded wrong package for your fones, i know it might show on ur handset still saying lt18i but i rooted a neo no problems from 42 to 62 using only arc ftf's and the phone always said the same
i tried on the arc but it still came up with unable to find apk. because i think its only available in donate or paid version ..tried to remove office suite
After updated my 'arc' via PCC to 4.0.4 i realized the vendor/app folder which contains facebook timescape market etc u know.. anyway when i downgrade to 2.3.4 stock 42 with .ftf, i saw some app were still there..
I didnt try formatting to fabric, but ı updated via SUS.(factory reset + update) to 62.. all was ok then flashed 42 with ftf.
Now I have no vendor/app but Im not sure what Im going to do after SUS update the phone to 404 not 0.62 :/
A simple solution is to Dowload the app systemcleanup from market. You can Use this app to move apps from vendor to system or just uninstall them.

Is to Flash Arc S .Firmware on to.Arc.

Ok, i read and this is awesome! Especially for those with 16+GB SD.
Now... has anyone successfully installed it?
Installed & it works great! I now have 3GB "internal" space from /sdext. The true /data is mounted as /sdext & the ext4 partition on my sdcard is mounted as /data
Downloading, will test it

is it possible to use it with stock kernel. Cant flash doomlords kernel... can only boot up with it.

follwed this step,

C:\>adb push 40ad2sdx /system/etc/init.d/
C:\>adb shell
# cd /system/etc/init.d
# chmod 755 40ad2sdx

Rebooted phone 2 times, fixed permissions a few times but still almost every app force closes.

Thanks in advance
why to extract system.sin?
you can use it to retrieve lost files, like apps.
what do we need to have to extract the system.sin?
- winrar/winzip/7zip/etc...
-the latest flashtool
-yaffey
so lets start
first we need to extract the system.sin from the FTF using winrar/winzip/etc...
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
now open flashtool and go to: advanced->sin editor, and choose the system.sin
and then dump the DATA.
note: you need to wait, it might take a while.
now you will get the system.yaffs2
so now you need to open yaffey and open system.yaffs2
now you can do what ever you want with the files,
extract them, replace them...
i might need that
i might need that too
Does it work with latest ICS builds?

if you want to extract the kernel there are guides for that in the dev section.

I don't think so, if it's ext4, then the output file should be system.ext4 instead of system.yaffs2, it also happens to ST15i ICS system.sin, and ext2explore can't open it too (so, it isn't ext4 for sure).
Maybe, yaffey doesn't support sony ICS yaffs2 disk image?

it doesn't matter if its ics or not, and i tried myself on ics.
if yaffey can't open it than maybe the file is corrupted.
can you get a screenshot of the error or write it?
As you can all see on the first post, the content type field inform you about the type of data embedded into the sin file. As far as it is yaffs2, everything should be fine (I never had any issues with yaffs2 images). In case it is ext4, here begins headache sometimes it works and image can be loop mounted under linux for example. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you can view folder structure but as soon as you try to edit a text file (.prop file for example or one in etc folder), you get a completely corrupted file.
The problem is not with extraction. It is with how sony deals with ext4 filesystems. I didn't figure out yet how to make it work all the time.
If the content type is elf, use the Advanced->Elf Extractor to unpack the content. You can try with kernel.sin for example and I'm sure you will recognize some things once extracted

I know that, system.sin from GB was extracted without any error, I faced the problem only with system.sin from ICS.
both system.sin from GB and ICS (ST15i) after were dumped using flashtool are system.yaffs2 (the content type field also showed yaffs2).

The error I've got is exactly the same as mxsam4's screenshot.
I don't think that it's corrupted since the ftf file was flashed fine into my phone (I extracted system.sin from it).

This is the latest Jelly Bean Leak.
Lots of the users couldn't install the OTA, so here's the full version.
How to install:
Extract the zip in SDCard --> clockworkmod --> folder (for example JB) --> files here
Go to CWM --> Backup & Restore --> Restore from internal storage
The ROM is NOT rooted.
You should root it yourself.
Enjoy
MODEM XXDLH4: http://developer.clockworkmod.com/downloads/51/3572/radio-LH4-i9300-signed.zip (thanks to Cyanogenmod)
Please say thanks If this helped you!
Edit: I recommend you to wipe dalvik cache, battery stats & cache partition before you run the rom (for best smoothness and no FC)
Edit 2: If for some reason you can't find clockworkmod folder (to restore the backup), make a new backup and then replace the files from your backup with the files from the ZIP I provided.
Edit 3: MD5 checksum mismatch only happens when you try to install the whole zip file which is wrong! Extract like it's stated in the instructions.
Edit 4: I use some settings on stock that makes it faster for me:
- Disabling all animations in developer settings (or at least 0.5 to windows animation)
- Deleting all widgets from the homescreen
- Disable S Voice launch by homescreen and voice turnon (drain battery)
- Freezing/uninstalling all stock bloatware (with Root Uninstaller Pro) [AllShare, Google+, Yahoo News, Weather, Samsung Apps, Video Hub, Music Hub, etc etc]
- GPU rendering
490 MB Free RAM at final
Edit 5: You can restore this backup on every rom you want.

Please can you help a noob - ROM seems extremely small
Hi I have been hunting for a tool to do a "complete" backup of my S3 so I can restore it in one go after playing with other ROMS and get back to Stock easily. So seeing this looked fantastic. I have run steps 1 , 4 and 10 .
The ROM i get is only 27,161 KB , and as the stock rom I flashed was over 1 gb I wonder if I have done something wrong and I am afraid to try flashing this with Odin . Especially when I did a NANDROID Backup from S3 Toolkit and this is 1.6gb .
Any advice would be well received .

You forgot step 5! configure tool, compile and install zlib and compile ext4_utils, and got empty image system.img...
is there a chance of a port to cygwin?
I like how the title says it supports any device and then the first post says it supports less than 10 devices.
Creating .tar.md5 will create images that increase binary counter ?
Edit:
Only with custom recovery

Hi and thx for a great tool
1. Any chance when I run 6. that it stops when it is mounted and I can edit/add content in the output.img before it creates a system.img?
Would be nice to be able to edit before system.img
2. Possible to edit a factory system.img that I have on pc?
Thx for your time

It's just a ROM converted from offical ftf with pre-root and recovery, so I guess there should be no problem on LET.
thank u for the working,but i still waiting for the one step root method

Okey, let's try.
Tried to update from CM12 with the procedure. /system wasn't updated at all by the installer.
If I may ask, which SuperSU and recovery ZIPs did you use for creating the PRF? I already downloaded an unrooted one and on a slow connection like mine I'd rather not redownload another one. I'm willing to go through the process myself.
not sure i understand - why do i have to flash with flashtool after....? and does this work on locked BL?

Why flash FTF (,on right side uncheck DATA if you don't want to format internal storage and check SYSTEM & BASEBAND in exclude column). What happen if flash zip and don't flash FTF?
where's the ftf?

Cus I didn't add kernel etc in the zip,it only includes system
So we need to flash them by flashtool.and yes I'm on locked bootloader

In the second line of the thread
So, do I have to download the .ftf from "this FTF"? Would it work any other .ftf or does it have to be that one?

system is mounted on r/o-r/w?
