MMS problems - G2 and Desire Z General

I have been having problems for quite a while with receiving MMS messages and sending them as well. I am on a monthly pay as you go plan with no data and i am out of the tmobile network, (roaming still in US) but with my previous phone (sidekick 4g), I was able to send and receive MMS messages if i had wifi calling on. Now that trick doesn't seem to work but once every good while. All I get is the download option then my bars will get that "x" over them to signify no coverage and wifi calling will turn off and after a while start again and no progress will be made in the download process. I have tried having both national and international roaming on and neither seem to make a difference. I havent made any tries to change the apn settings. Could anyone help me solve my dilemma? Thanks any help will be greatly appreciated.

Even though you're on a pay-as-you-go plan, you'll still need data enabled to send/receive mms messages. Otherwise you'll receive the message but never be able to download the attachment. My phone is on a plan without data, but I still have to enable data in order to send and receive MMS messages. I also need a good amount of signal (it has to be practically full signal) for it to go through. As far as my experience goes, you can't send or receive MMS messages while Wi-Fi Calling is enabled. Your signal bars show no signal because your phone is switching between Wi-Fi Calling and mobile radio. As for APN setting, I'm not sure which ones do and don't work. Whenever I have issues with MMS, I look up the values and re-set them.
TL;DR Just enable data and give it a try.

I have T-Mobile as well. If you watch closely when receiving an MMS, you will see that although WiFi calling is enabled, the mobile data indicator will show up and transfer the data.
As far as APN settings are concerned, it has no effect on WiFi calling. If you can receive MMS when connected to mobile data then your APN settings are correct.

The thing is that I do have my data enabled and i do see the indicator showing the data transfer but its usually a "G" and the arrows neither go up or down, but its really strange yesterday I was able to test it out and I was able to recieve an MMS but I tried sending one right after and nothing happened. I will probably recieve the failed to send message later on today. I was just hoping there was a fix to this. And as far as I have seen with experimenting with it, WiFi calling must be enabled for me to send or recieve MMS if not I get the message of could not send or could not download right away

go-phone: mms on unlocked htc hd2 without using data

hey there i have another question, you see im using the NRG rom on my unlocked hd2 and i popped the prepaid/gophone att sim card in and it set everything up for me. so i could use edge to access the web and all that, and send mms messages. but since i dont want to use the data on the phone and just wifi, i turned data off , but then i cant send mms's , so i dont know if theres a way to like mess up the settings on the data settings so that it sends mms's without me having to use data. btw i have the unlimited text option that states i dont need a data plan to send mms's. thanks to anyone who can help.
windows mobile can only send mms over data!!!
my o2 sets two data connections, one for data and one for mms. If i just turn off all data, i cant send mms, but if i use something like 'dialup enabler/disabler' i can turn off one or both of these, hence i can turn off only the actual data connection and leave the mms connection on.

Yes, and tmobile (US) is the same way...you can use MMS (as long as it's on the plan) even if you don't have any other data provisioned on the line.
EDIT: barronedson, I would suggest calling AT&T and asking what settings you need when you want to send MMS without a data plan, if no other members here have any suggestions.

Going On Holiday How To Stop ALL Data Connections

Hi,
I'm off on my hols soon and was wondering how to stop all data connections apart from sms/ mms and calls?
Cheers
Its not quite the same thing, but we live in the South East of England and had a trip to the coast yesterday. My phone picked up a French carrier and then I got a load of messages from TMobile (my normal carrier) telling me how much it was all going to cost.
I tried searching on available networks but couldn't find TMobile uk. So for a few hours I wasn't able to use my phone till we were a bit further inland again and I could reconnect to the TMobile service.
Any idea how to force the phone to stay on your providers network and if not how to avoid incurring silly charges when my monthly plan is all inclusive.
Well I know for SMS, if you go into Settings, there's a check box that says "Roaming Auto Retrieve", just leave that unchecked. Not sure if that's what you're looking for?
if you want stop everything but want use as PDA then just put in aeroplane mode, every communication will be stoped

If it's like mine, the phone should not roam on data while you're out of your own network. You can confirm this though by going to SETTINGS-Wireless Controls-Mobile Networks and check if Data Roaming is turned off. It should be, and if it is, your phone will not use internet while outside your carriers coverage area, but you can still receive calls and texts perfectly fine (and wi-fi will still work too for data without charge)
You can stop all data.. But it will also stop mms. Sms will be fine though. Settings, wireless control, mobile networks, un check MMS and data.

SMS and MMS are free anyway to recieve as the OP already posted he doesn't mind these working abroad, i just got back from the dominican Republic and as long as you untick data roaming in "Mobile network settings" then your good to go

[Q] T-Mobile APN settings w/o data plan

Hey guys i just got a atrix 4g unlocked for tmobile running cm7. I do not have a data plan but i do have unlimited messaging. is there any apn setting out there that allows me to send and recieve just mms and no data other than that. how would i go about configuring my phone to do so? i would really appreciate the help. its really annoying having to toggle the data on and off whenever i recieve a picture message.
You could just call tmobilr and have them disable the data. Then no overage and no toggling every 10 seconds
so that wont shut off all my data? because i know you need to have data enabled on the phone in order to download the mms.
They wont charge you for data use on mms if you deny data at all. They will make the phone a calling/mms/SMS only then. Wifi would be your phones new friend.

Google Hangouts Roaming and How to see network information when Roaming?

I'm roaming in the Caribbean with the nexus 6p. I get data, but i can't send text messages. I do get text messages from people but whether i try to reply or send a new message, it always fails. Does anyone know what the issue is? E-mail works fine, as does Facebook messenger.
Also, how can i tell the quality of my connection or if its 2g/3g/4g when roaming. All i see is a network bar with a small r next to it, not the usual 3g/4g/LTE icons etc. Is there a particular setting for this?
Lastly, i have wifi calling enabled but i have no idea if its connected and working or not. Is there any way to tell when its activated and when its not so i don't incur roaming fees when calling home?

T-Mobile MMS over wifi

Is anyone else having issues with MMS not sending over wifi? On my S9+ whenever I'm on wifi and have wifi calling enabled, my calls, text and mms all send when on wifi even if I have no signal. The OP6T doesnt seem to be sending the mms. Any ideas?
I personally haven't had them not send, but when I was on wifi only (airplane mode with WiFi on), it took a minute to send.

Seems to be working okay for me, i also have wifi calling enabled and don't seems to be having any MMS issues,I have the stock messenger disabled and I am using the google messages app for messaging if that matters or not I don't know.maybe try going into apps and notifications and select see all apps then check under the three dots to show system and clear cache and storage under MmsService and see if that helps.
Sending WiFi through mms on T-Mobile is always iffy unless you're using an old S7 which has RCS support. Or you're sending to another T-Mobile user using the old RCS support.
It might work with your S9+ but it's not always consistent and in the background it will use the mobile data over WiFi, despite your WiFi calling settings.
It's not a phone issue, it's a carrier issue.
My solution was to get a cellspot from T-Mobile. They're free ($25 deposit that turns into bill credits after one month).
I just tried it sending messages to my wife's phone. I'm on T-Mobile USA.
Airplane mode on, wifi on, SMS sends fine. MMS sends fine.
Don't know what to tell you. International version of phone too (aka not the TMO variant).

Ironically, it's the opposite for me. I HAD this problem on my Notes, but I don't have any MMS problems on my 6t. I agree that it's just a TMobile issue.
Works for me on the 6t
Thanks for the posts guys I figured out that it's random for me, which lines up with it being TMobile like you all suggested.
What fixed it for me is turning on airplane mode and then just WiFi. This works 100% of the tests for me, vs just turning on WiFi and waiting to make sure WiFi calling had kicked in. Stock one plus messenger app btw
