which is the best rom for a500 and how can i root my a500 on android 4.0.3
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium HD app

The rom that shall not be named is the best one IMO. Not taking away from the devs here, but you can only push so far on modified stock (still think what you guys do out of the kindness of your hearts rocks though!).
As for rooting, you have 4.0.3 or you want to root and get 4.0.3? The processes are different for the different android versions, but check the development forum for this. There are some great guides on how to root from any official version.

Really, dude, both of these issues have been beat to death in literally hundreds of threads. Do a search on the development side of the forum.

don't reply
I don't care if it is the billionth time it is asked, that is why the forum is here. if you don't want to answer don't but don't ding someone for asking.
I have successfully rooted, tried two root tools, I have to look on the other computer to see what the one that was successful was, will try and get back to you on it.
there are many root tools though, don't be afraid to try em... i found to put the tool in the root directory of your computer seems to work best and make sure you use vista or xp, windows seven can be trouble.
am also looking for rom info myself, so if you find a good one let me know....

If is on 4.0.3, there is and easy way to root it. Do file, plug tab, run the app. Rooted.
If you want Roms. Install adb then then apx tool.
Adb install 20 min. The rest in 10 min. Now i can say this because i know. Last week. 1 hr to do each one.

Does it update the kernel? Any problems going from 4.0.3? Are you over clocking with that Rom. Have not been able to find the download link for it, do you have it. I was also wondering when you flash a new Rom do You lose all your apps and have to reload, thanks for info.

I9100G users Unite!

Introduction
I've had my I9100G for more than a week now and to date there's no hint of anyone working on a custom ROM or mod for it. I guess we'll have to resign ourselves to the fact that it's not really a popular model for the regular devs and if we want to get some mods or custom roms on our phones, we have to do it ourselves. I'm currently working on customising my phone, but since I have a day job and little actual experience in Android, it's going to take some time before I can put anything out. So I'm inviting fellow I9100G users to join me in the effort to get some mods developed for the I9100G.
Kernel
Firstly, the kernel. AFAIK, there are two available kernels so far for the I9100G - KH4 (Android 2.3.4) and KI1 (Android 2.3.5). There are rooted versions for both, but as of now only the KH4 one has CWM recovery. In addition, Samsung has released the source code for the KH4, but I'm yet to find the source code for the KI1. I'l like to develop for the KI1, but without a source code and CWM recovery for the kernel, efforts are limited. So I appeal to anyone who knows where we can get the source code for KI1 or can help get CWM on the KI1, please respond!
Mods
So far I've deodexed my phone running on KI1 and managed to get the battery percentage mod on it using the UOT. That one's pretty simple. This weekend I hope to try some more mods like the Advance Power Menu, for one. Once I get that done, I'll share on xda. Appreciate suggestions on what mod we can apply that's useful, but too complicated. If anyone manage to produce mods for your I9100G, appreciate if you could share.
Hopefully once we have a few mods done for the I9100G, we can consolidate them into a custom ROM for our phone.
Let's work together to make our phone better!
I would like to join with little experience on android .
I understand our target is to make custom Rom for the g model, but do you think its we can make it possible to flash other i9100 custom roms with sgx 540 processor ?
Can we have a list of things to start with to acheive that?
Btw, i tried deodexeding and i didn't success. Any advice on this .
Thanks

Hi ss219100g,
We can't flash I9100 custom ROMs into the I9100G. I tried flashing VillainRom onto mine, but I couldn't make it work. Needs someone with more knowledge and experience, I suppose. All I can try right now is try to apply various modes I pick up from xda onto my phone.
So far I've managed to apply the Battery percentage and Advanced Power Menu mods. I'll share them later today. I'm still looking around for the next thing to try. Any suggestions?
For deodexing, I used xUltimate. The link's here:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/xeudoxus/47283-release-xultimate.html
Basically, I copied the contents of /system/app and /system/framework to \origi_frame\ and \origi_app\, run the tool, then copied the results back onto the phone. Remember to delete the *.odex files in the phone.
hi, i one of the new sgs2g user.
i would like to join and hoping if we could ever make some custom rom for this version.
but i still noob bout android, and this is my first android phone.
i was able to root my dzki1 kernel, using insecure kernel and abd command, but unable to flash cwm recovery, is there way to flash it?
and other thing, what is deodex and odex? i try google, but could not understand

i did and that's normal, you get a yellow triangle because you installed an unofficial (insecure) rom or kernel, don't worry about it, it doesn't affect the stability of your phone in any way, it's just for saying that you have intalled a custom feature (rom or kernel)!

Kingdriod is based on an official Kernel, so big risk of bricking .

The install looks very intimidating for new flashers.
And to complicate things, there is a list of prerequisites and DONT'S. IF.......
So Im freaked out by it all, but do want to install it..
My experience so far is to.. D/L the German XXLPY and install via PC Odin.
Then root, then Speedmod Kernel..
NOW.. the PA ICS hybrid instructions warns against flashing with ICS already installed with certain kernels.....
I got lost and confused...
{Q} Can I just flash PA ICS Hybrid over what I have got already??

thanks for helping out a new flasher.

It's not confusing as long as you get the concept right. Just remember one thing.
All stock Samsung ROM are dangerous and you do not want to flash anything over them.
All AOSP ROM are safe and you can flash over them.
So what happens if you are on Samsung official like LPx, LBx, etc ? First, flash a gingerbread ROM with no wipe and then proceed with the usual flash procedure. This applies for ANY ROM that you wanted to flash not only Paranoid ROM.

Best ROM in your opinion on the nexus 7?

HELP! I am trying to root and install a custom ROM for the first time, I need some options. Thanks for looking.

Get paranoid android. Thats the best for me as you can have tablet mode without breaking the market or apps
You can also specify tablet/phone mode fo any app you have, and change the dpi.
Very good, solid ROM too
Nexus 7 rom to remember....
I personally like Codename Android, haven't had a problem. I tried few other roms and i always have a problem with nfl rewind app i cant seem to fast foward or rewind. Even the latest aokp rom build 2. Don't have that issue with Codename, its a great rom.

Paranoid Android suits all my needs. I did some tweaks though.
Using motley_noGPUoc_1.1.1 Kernel. In combination with Jay's tweaks my N7 runs incredibly smooth and stable.
You might encounter a weird 'screen black out' issue - flash this if you're using a CM10 based ROM like Paranoid Android.
And I'm using Apex launcher.. but this is just my personal preference.
I agree with the other posts, Paranoid is wonderful. Using the hybrid mode and the ability to set a custom DPI per application really makes things look great on the Nexus 7.
Someone had said to me why flash a custom rom if you have a nexus device which has the same user interface.
I was using Cyanogenmod on mine then I flashed back to stock and just set Apex Launcher on top of it.

No, you have to unlock to root. I don't believe that a nandroid backs up media files like videos, but I could be wrong. I thought the toolkit by Wugfresh had a "backup media files" option. I'm pretty sure you can use ADB to backup files as well.

Best Advice for New Nexus 10 Owner

Well, my Nexus 10 is in the mail direct from Google! Believe it or not, they were actually the cheapest source for the 16GB model. I not worried about storage space since I have 32GB now on my phone and max out at about 4GB.
At any rate, I am both excited and nervous. I have had a Samsung Nexus phone for about a year and super happy; however I have read horror stories about this tablet (not connecting to WiFi, random reboots, etc.). So, where should I start?

However, if you decide to install a custom rom or use the root to run apps such as LagFix or delete bloatware, you will definitely see an increase in performance. I was like you, wondering if rooting is worth it.. once I did it, I haven't looked back. It's so much faster!

That all depends on whether you want Asus apps and features, or the latest version of Android with a little more customization. Personally, the fastest stock rom I have used is CROMi-X, which can be found in the development forum. v5 was recently released, which is based on the latest source from Asus. Definitely good to try that rom out if you are a first timer, there is plenty of support and you will find the speed boost to be really nice.
Then there's Cyanogenmod 10.2, which is quite stable on the TF300 now and it is what I am personally using. It doesn't include any stock Asus apps at all, it is based off the official CM sources. To be honest, the performance with CM10.2 is really quite good and there may be some kernels coming that will allow us to even overclock :good:

I second that. I was too tired of the laggyness with the stock rom. So I flashed CM. Now I have no idea how did I stand stock rom for almost a year.
Sent from my TF300T using Tapatalk 4
I'm currently on CM10.2 and there is like a new tablet for me. it runs really smooth.
I am currently on Paranoid 3-99 and I support the it feels like a new tablet argument in full mode.
So I highly recommend rooting it and going for a different custom ROM paranoid and cm are the best so i highly recommend using one of them good luck and enjoy the new experience
