Paranoid uses CM9 kernel, therefore it is safe.

Looks like Paranoid is CM9 based so nearly no bricking risk there
Kingdriod is based on an official Kernel, so big risk of bricking .
I could be quite wrong here though.. do your own research.

Reading the first few post in the paranoidandroid thread...
The install looks very intimidating for new flashers.
And to complicate things, there is a list of prerequisites and DONT'S. IF.......
So Im freaked out by it all, but do want to install it..
My experience so far is to.. D/L the German XXLPY and install via PC Odin.
Then root, then Speedmod Kernel..
NOW.. the PA ICS hybrid instructions warns against flashing with ICS already installed with certain kernels.....
I got lost and confused...
{Q} Can I just flash PA ICS Hybrid over what I have got already??
or {Q} do I have to go back to GB and a GB kernel first??
thanks for helping out a new flasher.
And dont forget to lecture me to read..read..read.. research....
I know that & but I will need reminders (without links as wel)l...
thanks again,,,

Kingdroid it's pretty bad, it has very very dirty stuff and useless tweaks, its buggy and drive you crazy after 1 day of use.
The idea of that rom is good but "more" not means better so that guys need to do a clean rom instead a rom full of useless crap.

It's not confusing as long as you get the concept right. Just remember one thing.
All stock Samsung ROM are dangerous and you do not want to flash anything over them.
All AOSP ROM are safe and you can flash over them.
So what happens if you are on Samsung official like LPx, LBx, etc ? First, flash a gingerbread ROM with no wipe and then proceed with the usual flash procedure. This applies for ANY ROM that you wanted to flash not only Paranoid ROM.

yeah. they released a flow chart with percentages a week ago. if i find ill link. but based on the flow chart we have ~66% chance of official cm9 (do we really need it though?) we already have a AOKP, Gummy, MIUI v4, nightly kangs, THS and Codename (most of these roms from Stephen.k.spear thanks btw) so in all reality, would the world end with out offic cm9?

Hi Guys,
Did anyone tried KingDroid ICS 1.6 ROM....any review or suggestion?...presently i am on CM9...is it worth flashing to it?
Dear abheshekk,
I am on v1.6 now and it is very smooth&stable... Cm9 is still in its early beta stage and may have much more bugs than tw based kingdroid v1.6... It is worth to flash according to me... V1.6 contains latest ported apps from sgs3 ics rom including toucwiz ux... Call rec is enabled and all spen stuff is working... I am very satisfied with v1.6...

Fool proof instruction from LPF (Ketan)
First get these to files on SD(cant post links, google pls):
CF-Root-SGN_ZS_OZS_LPF-v5.3 (get the .tar since Mobile Odin can not flash .zip)
AbyssNote kernel 4.2 Final RedPill Touch Original Logo (.zip vers.)
and the Kingdroid Rom
Download Mobile Odin(pro) and flash CF-Root-SGN_ZS_OZS_LPF-v5.3
Now Boot into recovery and flash AbyssNote kernel, still in CF-Root go to advance and reboot recovery (so now you are in abyss recovery)
In Abyss first Wipe Data/Factory after that wipe Cache and then wipe Dalvik
Now install from SD and chose Flash Kingdroid rom
Reboot and enjoy GNote

What's the most vanilla ICS rom for Note?

Hello,

For an ICS ROM you need to use an ICS kernel. But Paranoid comes packaged with the kernel. By the sound of it you are on GB at the moment. If it's already rooted, do a full wipe then flash Paranoid and the GApps package from the same thread.
If you are already on ICS, do not do full wipe until you have read up on how to do it.

You can use modded kernels with PA, but only cm based ones like AniDroid/bbq etc.. and not the touchwiz ones like speedmod/franco.
To install, follow what the post above says, or as you mentioned use Odin to go back to gb, root/install cwm, full wipe then install Paranoid Android.

And then there is the faster update cycle of cm9.

Just my two cents: I found PA to be super buggy in comparison to CM9, the boot splash didn't fit the screen and the UI lagged a lot more, some of the apps were great in tablet mode, but CM9 feels overall far more suited to the Note.

If you want a true Vanilla experience install the 4.04 Stock Rom, you will find the there are now a lot of people using it, it is stable, fast and the battery life has improved. There is a large difference between 4.03 and 4.04 official ROMS.
I have been using it since it came out and I find that it beats everything else I have tried. On the down side the 4.04 kernel still contains the EMMC Bug so I cannot do a full wipe without reverting back to GB.

Thanks man. I have been running vanilla since launch and my phone started feeling laggy the past few weeks.
I loaded rasbean w/ trinity, and now this piece flies. I'll pass out thanks once I'm back on my PC. And I'll also try the dark theme below as long as it's inverted.
It's like a new phone. Thanks everyone!

I'm running BlackBean 5 on my 4G with 4.8.3 marmite kernel and it is running pretty darn smooth if you ask me. I love the fact it has the complete dark/cyan look. Saves on battery, easier on the eyes and just overall looks sexy.

Same but with air kernel. Seems smooth, battery could be better but not pressed

I'm going to try the Rasberry ROM, since everyone says so many wonders about it. I was using TSM Update 6 for a few days and was quite happy with how it performs, but it drains alot of battery.
How's the battery consumption on Rasberry?

Do you install a Kernel the same way you install a ROM? Via CWM?
Thanks in advance!

no need to wipe anything when flashing kernels. wiping dalvik before flashing kernels is the same as washing your feet before flashing a kernel, one has nothing to do with the other.
