Don't get me wrong ICX is brilliant. Iv'e been waiting since December for the Data Usage to be fixed (3G)...
It must be hard since even Sony have moved their official ICS release from March to this Summer.
When did this happen? I was really looking forward to ice cream sandwhich on my xperia play this month. So we now have to wait longer.

if your gonna drop a bomb like that please tell me you have proof?
I can't remember where I read this but sony said icx will be releases late april or early may.

I'd love to have internet data whilst away from my Wi-Fi too. I'm sticking with ICX anyway as ICS on the Play is still going to have the standard Xperia skin job over the top
OS updates should make the device look completely different in my opinion as it makes it feel like having a new device. That's why I flashed ICX in the first place. That and it confuses staff in phone shops when it looks like a Galaxy Nexus . It should be like Xbox Live when the new update hit and changed EVERYTHING.
Alas, we can't change what phone companies decide to do with their products unfortunately.

I haven't seen this reported anywhere else in these forums but one little post, but I've been waiting for an official miui v4 release for ages.
Now I've seen that g2/desire z isn't supported anymore, this happening from April
THIS IS ABSURD. Milestone will get it and we won't. It says we should have an official update planned and 576mb ram...
I can't think of this anything else than absurd...

I never tried miui so doesn't seem so shocking to me, I've only ever played with cyangenmod, adromadus, some sense and the elitemod I'm on currently, never bothered with MIUI since as someone put it was just an android OS trying to be as close to iOS as possible. And since it primarily seems to be concentrated on themes/eye-candy I don't really blame them, the device is aging.

Nothing at all.
I've tried miui once on an old nexus one and found it too much iosish, but then tried it again and loved it. If there have been newer ones, I would have adviced you to try it, but obviously... If you want, give it a week, and you may change idea. just suggesting
I don't think it matters if you did contact them or not. Don't get me started with HTC I'm totally disappointed with them. I can't believe I'm actually looking into buying Samsung because HTC disappering act. But let's wait and see hopefully we get a offical ICS leak that falls from the heavens. Least not until the DesireHD and other phones with similar hardware gets ICS officially (cuz then can take the 'stable' hardware driver from those kernels/roms).
I don't know if anyone got the memo but the DHD isn't getting an ICS update and being pissed about MIUI not updating due to stability issues is dumb.

I don't read android central since they set the bar for low quality tech journalism. The only way I'd actually believe that article is if he posted a screenshot of the actual interaction with this 'HTC representative". Forgive my suspicion but tech journalism in general and android related journalism in particular is fraught with speculation, hearsay, and outright falsification.
Either way, my point still stands. There are a half dozen other devices using the same SoC as the DHD with an ice cream sandwich update out already. Unless there are very specific technical reasons why they cannot be combed for drivers, I don't see why that has not occurred already.

Seriously dude, I'll believe it when I actually see the zip file of the update myself. Speculation is nothing but speculation until the information we need is actually pushed. I won't bother emailing HTC customer service department because they're going to feed me the same line of bull**** that they're feeding Android Police, Android Central, The Verge, Telus, and god knows how many other people.
Again, my initial point stands. There are quite a few devices already out with ICS on an MSM8255. There is no reason that I am aware of which precludes combing through those driver packages for the bits we need save perhaps this pigheaded absolutism that WE MUST HAVE THE DHD UPDATE that has been spewed out by rote by everyone under the sun, myself included.
I challenge you to start asking around. Why can't we use alternative driver sources? Go bug people more technically minded than I and get a straight answer. All I've heard so far is a big void of silence.

From where did you read JB is an upgrade to ICS?
All I read was that JB was to bring in more performance in addition to ICS features, so that basically means you don't need to be on ICS to have JB.
Think of it as GB=WindowsXP; ICS=WindowsVista; and JB=Windows7:
GB is fast but looks like turd, ICS looks awesome but slow, and JB looks awesome but fast. From that analogy, you can always upgrade from XP straight to Se7en, thus, you can always upgrade from GB to JB granting the manufacturer grants it.

He's more on about the reasons of why Xperia Play didn't get ICS, gaming compatibility, JB won't change that, just adds to the problem of fragmentation.
Hardware/Software that's not supported in Vista wouldn't suddenly work in Windows 7.
Ending point is Google need to enforce some damn policies to stop the android fragmentation, I mean Sony launching phones in 2012 with GB is unforgivable.
Nah there we'l be no official jb for play...maybe other xperia phones but not the play so don't be getting your hopes up
Well. The devs of this forum managed to get touchpads to work properly on ics. So, I think that we should get an official update. If the dev's can make a stable rom with working touchpads, then sony can too! It will also perform a lot better on JB. We should make a petition!

ICS was NOT killed because Sony couldnt figure out how to get touchpads working on ICS....... it was all because of poor gaming performance due to non-updated games.

Yeah, well, people, don't get your hopes up. ICS being slashed off our upgrade list totally slashes off the possibility of having Jelly Bean.
But with Sony saying again the magic word "ALL," don't you think that would make quite a stir again if they abandon the Xperia PLAY, again, for the second time, after just saying ALL? Now that's cow turd more stale than X10 and Xperia PLAY abandonment issue all put together. (Ssshhh, I see a riot coming...)

I think it's a little rash to assume that because Sony use the word "all" they actually mean all of them. What are they supposed to say, "all but the Xperia Play?" Or maybe list out every single phone that they actually plan on still supporting? All they have to do is say, "Well, sorry guys, we tried, but we didn't guarantee that it would work in the first place."
Honestly, stop expecting/hoping Sony to support this phone in an official manner and support the people in the community that have already done much more than Sony was willing to.
Sony should have at least released a finished version of ICS to us devs here but no.... they were scared away by not as many games working on ICS..... Well guess what? It's My phone and I should decide if I want the upgrade. Not someone else. As for JB, they should have at least come out and said "no we won't upgrade X phones". It would get us mad but not mad upset and angry for taking our hopes away...
I think the xperia play, can have jelly beam because jelly beam has more fluid that ics
That magic word "ALL" is for all Sony phones. Play is SE so don't count.
My missis has Experia Arc and guess what no ICS there either bur Arc S has...
What Sony doesn't realize is, if this gets jb, or even ics, the sales will go WAY up! That means more game companies will update! And they can ALWAYS have a
"we cannot guarantee a solid gaming environment, or that pre owned games will continue to run on your xperia play. Clicking 'I accept' will continue the update."
I would update! All I care about is minecraft (which is still gonna update) and emulators!
Point is, Sony is being stupid. We need to tell them that we want a nice, clean update, and that the game makers will follow their suit. And even if they don't, others will MAKE MORE GAMES! The ONLY thing I want other than jelly bean in general is more app space.
I'm pretty sure Sony will come in for us. I'm running a JB Rom and all games work fine. Sony just needs to work harder. Also yes minecraft does update more frequently now so yes they would add support for 4.0+

Just stumbled across this article of how Sony will realese 4.3 to Some Devices, , Sonys still In the game lookin around so if were Lucky then we might get 5.0,
WEBPAGE
Thanks for sharing, here is the article from the link above:
As it usually happens when Google announces a new version of Android, even a relatively minor one like 4.3, all eyes are turned on manufacturers for announcements regarding the rollout of the respective update.
For Android 4.3, the first OEM to step forward is Sony, which announced in a blog post that is working with Google and Qualcomm to prepare the update for several recent devices:
Xperia Z
Xperia ZL
Xperia ZR
Xperia Tablet Z
Xperia SP
Xperia Z Ultra
These all devices released in the recent months powered by Qualcomm processors (just like the new Nexus 7). In addition to the list above, Sony also said that it plans to skip the Android 4.2 update for some devices, and bring them directly to the latest Android 4.3 version. It’s not known yet which devices will get this treatment.
Also, no word yet on the timeline of the Android 4.3 update for Sony devices, but the company promised that more information would be coming as soon as possible.
Two other major manufacturers, Samsung and HTC, were unfortunately less forthcoming about their Android 4.3 update plans. Both companies produce Google Play Edition phones (our reviews: HTC One GPe and Galaxy S4 GPe), which Google said yesterday will be updated “soon”.
As for regular devices, Samsung told Tech Radar that it “will confirm upgrade plans to Android 4.3 to selected Galaxy devices in the coming months”, while HTC claimed to be currently “reviewing Android 4.3 to see how this update fits into our plans”. In non-PR speak, neither company has info to share at this moment.
One manufacturer known for speedy Android updates is Asus, the maker of both generations of the Nexus 7. To our knowledge, the Taiwanese company hasn’t revealed anything yet, though we do expect an announcement in the coming weeks.

Side note, although its nice that Sony always seems to be quick to mention what devices are getting what updates, fast, however this article of course obviously pertains to only 2013 devices, no 2012 and of course definately no 2011 devices.
Actually, some devices running 4.1 may get bumped to 4.3. They didn't say only for 2013 devices.
"We’re also looking at uplifting some of our other devices running 4.1 direct to 4.3 – we’ll share more info / deets / timings when we can, so be sure to follow @sonymobileNews for all the latest."
But yea, no hope for 2011 devices, lol.

I'll take Samsung for my example because I know them.
Samsung will rush their update, they make sure everything works as it should, but the software is not optimized, My S3 would always lag really badly when I updated, it could take 5 seconds for the app draw to load, and they fill it with bloat and update their own apps which also lag really badly. I would prefer to wait another month as see a quality product rather than relive my Samsung nightmare.

To be honest it's this month and whenever they start to roll out the update, it'll be there on multiple servers unlike Samsung or HTC.
Other OEMs haven't started rolling it out completely and Only problem with Sony is that I am afraid they'll update mid-range phones to lollipop.
Plus Selling their mobile division won't happen I guess. They just need to stop producing more phones and just stick to a plan with less devices with more futuristic updates with some cool ads. Unlike boring or stupid ones. and they will rise from this nightmare and will continue to amaze us but I really hope that they'll release Camera features with the next lollipop update

I understand where you're coming from but it's been a Perennial issue with Sony. It's a very competitive industry and lagging behind others does Sony no good. There will always be the expected responses from Sony fans like better to wait for an update which is bug free than one rushed and bug ridden .
Truth is, there has never been an update from Sony that's been bug free and there probably never will be as is the case with all manufacturers.
The good news is they're at least closing the gap. Once upon a time they were many months behind. It's unfortunate because the Sony ui is one of the closest to stock so you should expect it to be one of the earliest.
Software support has never been one of their highest priorities but the new CEO did say they wanted to improve in this respect.

Let's hope so eh!

167 took ages because Sony wanted to showcase the software on the z3 range. That was down to strategy and not software optimisation. The 6 month madness was to blame for the delay in getting 4.4.4 to the z2. Nothing else!

Notice that I've been loyal to Sony since my first phone (w810) and so and so. And I would love to stick with Sony to the very last end but they should make some changes.
I don't know if its me, but the only bug I did have was with the Z when running 4.3: an app couldn't sync with the server, also the widgets stopped working from time to time.
That's all I can remember from the w810, w995, x2, x10, J, S, Z and Z2 bugs
