Galaxy note not going to deep sleep - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

After ics upgrade I found battery backup to be worse.. So to analyze things I purchased betterbatterystats. But it feels a bit too technical to me so I am posting the screenshots here, and will post more if required as what is the cause. Batterbatterystats widgets reports deep sleep duration as 0. Please help!

Back up and format your internal and external SD cards, it looks like the media server keeping you from deep sleep. After you reformat copy back your files and you are good to go.

Search for AudioOut_1 on this forum, more people have problems with it. Solution is to disable touch sounds and vibrations (Settings - Sound). I find them annoying anyway, like the camera shutter sound. Why the hell do we need to emulate mechanical sounds on a device that has no moving parts?

Airplane mode on, then turn off device, take battery out for some minutes, battery back on, turn on, disable Airplane mode.
If this doesn't work, try to see if disabling Data Connection makes your device go to deep sleep.

Probably my deepsleep problem has something to do with data connection, it seems more frequent when i have it on and wifi turned off. But it does happen too when the opposite is true (wifi on, data off).
So what shld i do?

EE03 Bugs

I haven't seen any other threads about the bugs found with EE03. So I will begin tracking via this thread.
Battery usage screen is reporting incorrectly. Does not show correct value for display and shows a very high value for android.settings
Capacitive buttons are not behaving correctly. Seeing different things, some see them not being light up, some see screen goes full brightness when they fade out. Temporary fix is to tie the keyboard timeout under display settings to match display timeout.
3G issues, when turning off wifi, 3G does not always turn on and sometimes need airplane mode to be toggled. Others have reported issues with 3G not turning on at all until a full reboot.
Random screen issues, occasionally flashes full brightness and/or flashes black.
4G issues waking up from sleep mode.
Overall laginess and slow display response
GPS issues continue. If the gps works seems more responsive but many still have issues
Battery drain issues

Actually it is possible. Just think about what you where doing in that 10 minutes? Alot of **** dling in the back ground?
Typed from a man on his phone while flying a plane heading towards the samsuck corprate office.
I flash ROMs themes etc atleast every week or so.... I'm not a epic and/or android newb. Trust me this is not normal. I have looked at this screen many times and display should be at the top if the phone is being used a decent amount. So, how about after 30 minutes of me leaving the phone on my desk screen on directly after a reboot? Should still be this? It's bugged at least for the display portion. I mostly made this thread as a way to track EE03 bugs, but this has to be the first time I have ever seen people jump so fast to defend things as not a bug.
My display is also at 3%. Very well might be a bug. Not an important one at all though.

Was just about to report that. I noticed the same. In addition the timeout can not be changed with the tying the keyboard timeout to the display.

Try tying the keyboard timeout to the screen, that mostly fixes it.
Thank you for creating this thread. Didn't want to sort through 80 pages of thanks, praise and relief over in DEV to see what known bugs I will be looking forward to when I try this.
Do you BONSAI?
Yeah, the capacitive buttons are wonky in this release. Even with my usual setting of tying keyboard light to screen timeout, it seems the capacitive buttons just turn off randomly at times.
Other bugs I've had with EE03: touch screen less responsive (seen a few others reporting this) and even worse 3G than I was already suffering from. These along with broken GPS were complete deal killers for me so I Odin'd back to EC05.

When switching into Airplane mode and then back you lose 3g. If you resart while in airplane mode you will still not have 3g connectivity.
Fix seems to be toggling airplane mode off and then restarting, it restored connectivity for me at least.

Does seem iffy. I tested and airplane mode fixed mine however when I turned off wifi 3G remained off until I toggled airplan mode. If I was guessing, i would say modem issue.

For transformers that dont deep sleep

For those of you that have a transformer that wont deep sleep whether its on or off the dock, doesnt matter you can get a app for that. its called Auto Airplane Mode, and it puts your transformer in airplane mode each and every time you turn the screen off, i have noticed a huge difference in battery life after installing this app. using Cpuspy my transformer went into deep sleep for 10 mins max a night for the last week. installed Auto Airplane Mode and the transformer goes into deep sleep within a min of turning screen off now. I already had the wifi set to turn off when screen is off and everything, the only thing i did was add this app.
app link https://market.android.com/details?id=com.blogspot.donkun3.autoairplane
nice find, works great. Best part is that it turns airplane mode off when i turn the screen back on.
yep i have noticed so far my battery life has almost doubled since installing the app, just nee dto make sur eyou get the correct one, one is automatic the other is you set the time, you want the automatic one. it says it in the description. But this app is great.
Ive also been using this app for the last few days. It works as advertised and defnitely increases battery life.
is it the one made by be1ay ?
I dont get this app, do you basiclly use only for the night? as there's no option to use every time the tablet goes to sleep, just set a time area...

Wow, this is a great app, I'm trying it on my phone as well. Thanks for posting this! Oh, you want the one from DON. That's the one that's automatic
This is indeed a very great app, really useful. I think there are 2 apps with the same name, one with a timee schedule and another one which kicks in when the screen is locked.
The auto lock one: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.blogspot.donkun3.autoairplane
sorry bout not posting which one but the one that patrick posted is the correct one, its automatic you dont really need to do anything at all.
Thanks for the app notice. It works really great, after the last update my tablet wont go to deepsleep while it's docked but with this app it works fine again

i've installed it last night and this morning after i woke up i lost 7% from the dock battery, cpuspy shows it's been in deepsleep for 9 hours so to my knowledge it's working fine.
btw: I think time for charging the TF (no dock) hast improved as well using this app - when it's in sleep mode
I never had a problem with the tf sleeping did a couple of times but a reset fixed it
I thought i would try this app my average for a night was 65-70 % deep sleep i now get 85-90% deep sleep thanks for sharing this post

Uhhh at wifi and networks there is a section called wifi disconect policy. You can set it to disconnect wifi when your screen powers off. No need to install any apps
tested auto airplane and i'm not sure it worked, put the table to sleep and docked, after 16 hours the keyboard/dock lost 60%, 60% while asleep that can't be right, my netbook lost nothing

msm_hsic_host still present on kitkat android 4.4

Hello guys, i think everybody update their phone to kitkat, and all knows about the battery drain caused of this wakelock related the modem (3g network) . For example when you are connected on 3g the battery drain alot also on deep sleep and its not good.
I heard that qualcoom has investigate in this issue but there is nothing new to fix it. So im asking everyone who have this problem if there is a new fix or something like that, also because there was an hudge update (ANDROID 4.4) but the problem almost for me, is still there. How could google release a new firmware without an hardware revision? this bug is present from android jelly bean.
If someone knows how to fix it please let me know because i can use only 2g to arrive at a day of battery usage with data connected. Thank you advance

Oh ok i will try, do you mean disable location under geolocation setting ?
As far as i've read about it, this will never be really solved.
It's some sort of a high speed interconnect between the cpu and the radio and these devices simply have to communicate. Some other soc's have the radio embedded, but the Mako doesn't.
Allthough it shows up as a wakelock, it doesn't really consume that much power.

This is absolutely right, some developers confirmed that. It's not possible to fix. But it's draining much battery, that's why I never use 3G/H.

thank you
Basically what I observed is:
When I stay at home all day on WiFi this wake lock will only add some minutes.
When I'm at work driving around a lot through lots of different mobile cells with varying coverage and signal this wake lock can add to up to 2 hours per day for me.

Buddy there is no a fix because this wakelock is caused from crappy radio interface of the nexus 4. You basically can use 2g istead 3g, go on setting and disable geolocalization and put it from device only, then go on account settings tap google and disable unwanted sync. This will help a bit but keep in your mind, in this phone when 3g is on battery will be crappy in all cases ?

If you can't find the source of the drain try a factory reset.
We went through so many threads like that, my man.
Do a search.
For the headup, assuming that you have already turned off Android location access, turned off Google location access, turned off auto-sync (I know you said you needed it but just for now, off it), turned off gps/mobile networks, do the following
a. disable Knock On/Off feature
b. disable CIQ (if you don't have CIQ, then ignore this step)
Note: do one by one and make an observation how the battery life behaves after each change.
Oh, btw, reboot the phone, say, right after unplugging the charge.

you should know better than to give stats.... standby hours and battery life is varied alot by user, ambient temperature and etc.
OP if you feel thats not right, flash another rom see if it help, I'm using energy rom, its good for me so far.
Try remove some bloat and apk with titanium... A regular user can often remove 100 apk from these roms! And use bootmanager and greenify! Greenify is must have!

Don't hope, fix now.
If I was you, I would backup all my important personal info on the phone and factory reset it.
I would do those tricks one by one w/o installing any app yet and see how the battery fares after each charge.
General speaking, we need to understand the root cause and find the solution from there, if it needs to be rooted to fix the problem then you root it otherwise, blindly rooting and assuming everything else will fix isn't the right way to debug.

Does anyone else have this kind of problem? Went to sleep with 100% battery and woke up after 8 hours sleep with 75%. This is definitely not normal. What should i do?

That happened to me yesterday actually. I'm not sure if it's a "drain" though, but def popped up after the 4.5.3 update for me. Still got 4:30 SoT..

Same here. I also can get good SoT but android system take's all the juice if screen is turned off.
I have the similar drain too. Using Oos 4.5.3 I'm trying to figure it out.
If you're using ExperienceOS, this issue is fixed in the latest 4.0 build

Go root and get a wakelock detector and see what is actually draining your system.

Of course you can flash a ROM lol. Another option is the very well know BetterBatteryStats. Which has built in wakelock detector monitoring as well as a slew of other battery monitoring functions.

Actually i tried to boot to safe mode and checked if that works. I was able to put it to sleep, so im just trying to figure which app is causing the wakelock.
Try to clean cache and dalvik in recovery and might be re-flash your OS.
Mine, rooted on stock OxygenOS 4.5.3 loosing 0.3% per hour over night when phone is idle (on LTE always, I have a good signal, also no GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi scan etc.).
PS: Android will try to "report" back to mother-ship time to time and if there is bad connectivity it might get stack in re-try loop eating to the battery. Unless you are in airplane mode then it should stop... but I would not count on that.

When you root there is an app called wakelock detector free. Works great.

Yeah i have used those apps.
I figured out the app that kept my phone awake
This looks promising.
I'm going fairly strong myself
I've seen this happen on every phone I've had in there last 5 years. Factory reset it.

Wakelock detector and BBS both are not being allowed by the system to analyze data. No idea how to fix this.

BBS actually started to work once i uninstalled Wakelock Detector. Coincidence I'm sure, but I lost the entire day of data at this point. Already at 25% battery.
on oneplus chinese forum also many ppl complain more battery drain after last system update yesterday
Only one hour of screen on time
