Hi there..
as i can read from this review, it seems S3 has the same autofocus issue as S2..in the 1080p camera demo video you can see how terrible the autofocus is.
Someone can confirm that?
i read that the auto focus was one of the best on engadget, yes engadget, the isheep blog. Stop creating stupid threads like this please,
can someone lock this stupid thread by what seems like a sore one x owner?
autofocus during video recording was some of the best we've seen in any smartphone. 1080p is recorded with a data-rate of around 2.2MB/s, which is very healthy indeed, and autoexposure shifts smoothly and sensibly.
I wouldn't close it, I saw on the verge that the autofocus was a bit crap on the sgs3 when recording 1080p. There is a sample video on the review and you can see the phone trying to autofocus loads.
verge hates samsung, thats why I took em off my favorites and never looked back. engadget while an isheep site, does give an objective review.

Hmm?
"The worst thing about the GS III? No matter how hard it tries, it just isn't greater than the sum of the HTC One X's parts. That's not to say it falls short, but merely to emphasize that times have changed since last year's Galaxy S II, which landed on an unsuspecting world that was largely devoid of predators."

I'm just playing around with you. You really have to look across multiple reviews and draw your own conclusions. There can also be differences between the h/w and firmware on pre-production devices that make them perform differently from each other and possibly production units. The camera's usually a hot button on any new phone so I'm sure both the positives and negatives will be all over the front page a week or two after it's in people's hands.
barry... lol you're still here eh? how are things over at the one x? haven't been there since you started calling me a troll ... with a low post count .. huehue..

yeah, after they had an article titled Why Samsung broke my heart, on their homepage for the longest time, I couldn't handle it anymore lol. off my faves. don't know why they didn't have one called how One X broke my phone lol
the techradar actually says that you can touch to focus while recording video, which does disable autofocus. this is the most sensible thing to do if you have trouble shooting a video.
problem solved

The One X forum is full of whiners, complainers, and nit pickers that no device ever released could ever please. I hope for your sake that they all don't decide to get SGS3's and come over here.
This is a typical example of the deep discussion that takes place to get the most out of the phone.

Just.. unbelievable.
Engadget has close to ZERO fact checking.. and it almost seems like they're actually out to smear the N1 altogether! Check out this rediculous post from the 'engineers' at Motorola, claiming that drawing crossing lines on a device is a good test of a touchscreen's quality. Look how wavy the N1 is! It's MOTO, not Motorola.
its funny that they post pictures but no video, ok we have the video of the first 3, but what about the video of the N1 getting doodled on... are they all using the same app? (that goes for the android phone)
why are we sposed to take their word for it that one pic was taking with slow, full finger motions while the other was tip and medium speed?
i used to go to engadget for all my tech reviews before i buy things but after pickin up this godsend of a phone, i have noticed how little validity or credibility their site has... still shots do not prove actions of precision...
this is an advanced world we live in now, engadget can make a video to bash androids browser speeds yet it cant make a video to prove this simple line test? plz...

LLLLLLLLLOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL
I just read the flash article on engadget and really? the guy specifically said that 80% of the video online uses flash, HOW ON GODS GREEN EARTH COULD FLASH OVERALL BE NEGATIVE?! This baffles the hell out of me, granted there will prolly be more ads on our browsers but i really dont care because having flash for other things is HUGE!
pros- 80% of online video will now be viewable
-sites that use flash entirely will now be viewable
-flash games can now be played
-flash can be integrated 1000 other ways with practical uses
cons- ads on websites
-may be a resource hog down? (doubt it though)
i say the pros definitely outweigh the cons...
It's funny...the Nexus One launch have brought out the true colors of Engadget, BGR, and others. Looks like Google and HTC are doing their job! That and I have lost all respect for Engadget and BGR.

A lot of us have known Engadget are a bunch of iphone licking fcuk heads for quite some time.
Once they get their vibrating iphones out of their respective a$$es, they might see straight again....
Its really disappointing. They also dished the HD2 which I currently use (altho I have a Nexus 1 on the way) and its truely an awesome winmo phone - and much better than an iphone!

Don't get me wrong, I love the HD2 as well; however, most people would rate the iphone higher strictly due to the OSes. I've never personally had a problem with WinMo, but it hasn't exactly been forward moving.
I'm still laughing at them about the 802.11N "reporting".
...breaking news...Nexus One doesn't support 802.11N...breaking news....
And they didn't try it? Simple test, would have shown they were wrong and it does support 802.11N, but that would not have pumped up the page views.
I personally dont have a problem with people liking their respective phones. If you like the iPhone thats great. If you like the HD2, thats fine. If you like the G1, thats great too. Hell, if you like the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X then thats just peachy.
What really pisses me off is when you try to use incorrect logic, flawed tests, and biased opinions to try and prove to me that the 3g signal in a Motorola DynaTAC 8000X is better than that of the HD2 (lets just say). This is what Engadget and many other reviewers have done, who after all this bull**** with biased opinions and flawed data are no longer considered reviewers in my opinion.
And it also pisses me off that because most people are ignorant, they take these reviewers words as truth and instead of forming there own decision, testing or doing more research already have a bad taste in their mouth. People should be like the recent TechCrunch article and and realize that just because you are not used to it and that it is different from the norm DOES NOT MAKE IT FLAWED, WRONG OR BROKEN!!!! IT JUST MAKES IT DIFFERENT WHETHER THAT BE FOR GOOD OR BAD IS FOR THE USER TO DECIDE!!!
CrApple must be paying them good money for messing things up with N1 launch. I really hate these fan boy srories poping up every day. I've got HD2 Bold2 and expecting N1 on monday. Every device has its own strength and weakness.
I think iToy user think they have best device and it will be forever. They have been deceived by Apple and whore member of on line media. New hardware of iToy can't be jailbreak any more, game over for now.

This is preposterous. First the web browser speed test between iPhone, Droid, and N1 where the iPhone had clearly visited the page before and was just loading from cache and now this? What a complete joke.
Please stop bashing Engadget for nothing...
Engadget post doesn't say anything about the performance from the iPhone or the Nexus One. Engadget just posted an article from MOTO, without making any conclusions. And, if you read the post at MOTO, then you will know that the Nexus One preformed very good (the same as your picture shows) if you press 'medium' on your touchscreen.
So, please, stop bashing Engadget and read the posts good en entirely!
Wtf. Don't these people have anything better to do than doodling lines? Why are they spending countless hours to rip a phone?

You can't say that engadget hasn't exhibited a clear bias. Their browser test was clearly rigged. That generated a lot of bad press. Almost every aspect of their review focuses on the tiny contrivances they found instead of anything positive. Literally, the phone is twice as fast (almost) as any of the other smart phones out there, yet they could hardly find even a single good thing to say about it.
Everything was written from a "the iphone has been doing it better for years now" perspective.
I tried this myself as well, and my lines came out pin straight even moving very slowly. Engadget is really a bunch of apple fanboys, even from their initial review of the Nexus.
Ive had my girlfriends Iphone 3Gs and my Nexus side by side, and in all aspects I'd rather use the nexus.

The browser test was indeed very poor and totally useless because they only use one website, Engadget.com, instead of multiple websites like it use to be. And yes, I have seen better reviews then this review... But, to say that all the articles on Engadget are 'crap' because they are iPhone fanboys is a little overdone.

No its precisely what it is..crap.
Its liek asking a redskins fan to break down Dallas Cowboy performances.
These guys clearly have an agenda which means the product is irrelevant. Once that happens things become tainted and "crap" is the label most appropriate.

Yep, Samsung Epic 4G.
Not surprising though since I'm very happy with my camera.
As a smartphone camera, I think it's as good as it gets.
it is a good camera
evos is too slow this one is lightning fast
What a ridiculous test. Who runs these websites? Highschool kids? Middle school kids?
They are "testing" cameras while they:
- Take the photo from different angles
- Take the photo with different color clothes on the subject
- Allow the subject to change her hair
- are taking pictures on different days?
- What is this Censor word when talking about camera?? 7 times???
REALLY?!
LOL, these sites are such noobs.

As a person that came from an HTC Hero I can truly say that the Epic4G has made me believe in taking camera shots from a phone again. The 5 Megapixel camera on the Hero just doesn't compare.
I wish HTC would focus on installing a quality sensor rather than upping the Megapixels to make phone look better on paper. Its kinda like overclocking a CPU and Marketing it at that speed knowing damn well it well it would be more stable if it was clocked down a bit with similar performance.

Yea, the test was absolute garbage, but I do believe that the Epic has the nicest camera of all of those phones they tested. They could have easily taken pictures of stationary objects like fruit while placing the cameras sitting still in the exact same place. Same for the contrast shot of that chicks face. Put the phones on a stationary surface so they are not moving, and then take the pictures while telling the subject to be as still as possible.

Hi guys and gals,
got my Xperia Z today and am really disappointed with the display viewing angles. Just wanted to share a few shots with you for comparison.
(Don't hate me for the iDevice, it's a business phone, didn't have a choice  )
The bad thing is: you really notice the color distortion at normal use. While looking up front, everything's fine. But tilt in any direction and you immediately see the problem. Didn't expect the 4x display to be so much better, minus the resolution. Maybe I just have caught a "bad" Xperia, but... meh. Guess I will return it and wait for the X-Phone or so.
I read on a german site that users are reporting a great variety in display quality, this is really a bummer on a flagship smartphone.

to be fair, not every one has the same expectations and preferences so if you really want good viewing angles this is not the phone for you or if you feel you miss out when other phones have better viewing angles, this is not the phone for you. in the end of the day Sony could have prevented this by using a better panel.

Such as DDR2 Ram on the HTC one instead of DDR3. Not to mention low GL bench scores and the the camera not necessarily living up to the hype.

Nobody looks on their smartphone in the exact same angle 99% of the time. Do you hold your smartphone straight before your eyes when you look at it? Because that's the only angle the colors are shown correct. The slightest tilt will result in distortion and this ist f*ing annoying.

Compare the icon colours of picture 2+3 to the colors on picture 1. Obvious.
Since there are no colours on picture 4, take a look at the software button bar and compare the lightness to that on on picture 1. Pretty much different, I don't think it looks too great.
edit: also compare the software button bar on pic 2+3 to pic 1, it's almost as "nice" as the display on my Archos A70.
Wow XZ screen looks really wonderful at first pic, which the same viewing angle I use 99% of the time

Japanese vs European screen
Japanese is better (disregarding grey navigation bars on Euro models)
I believe everyone rates this phone highly, so why has cnet gave this phone a 4 out of 5 rating??
Can't post a link as I'm a newbie...

hahaha, point to be noted, your honor!
i have never seen this many positive reviews for an HTC phone. some are calling it the best designed smart phone ever made.
not every review is going to be positive. and i wouldn't necessarily call 4 out of 5 stars a bad review.
It's still better than the Verge's abomination.
4 out of 5 is terrible tbh, phones are subjective and the main criticism for HTC phones is Sense... which I prefer to any other oem ui and asop by far, loved it since my touch pro
I wouldn't call it harsh. Here's their highlights and low-lights.
The battery and storage comment shouldn't really surprise anyone. So far,the camera's received mixed reviews with some reviewers being more impressed than others. I can see BlinkFeed being a "love it or hate it" proposition which is really in the eye of the beholder and everyone won't like it equally. The comments about scuffing are concerning. They loved the display and design which I think will be pretty much a universal theme.
Here's the review...

Blinkfeed is cool, when you like to read a lot of news and social things like Facebook, which i do often when i have job school
Camera is good, ok Lumia 920 beats it, but who cares. Its good, not negativ.
No need of expandable storage if you have 32 GB, in my opinion.

I kind of agree with all the points.
BlinkFeed is merely a user-preference, but ability to remove it should be an option.
Then read their xperia review and go mad.

......also "Camera doesnt Impress", sounds more neutral than "Bad" to me, it's not a bad thing, it holds its own in most aspects of picture and video taking especially considering its stsbilisation function.
Actually I dont think any of those "Bad" points are really valid to potential buyers or the more tech savvy.
I think he is speculating about the black and scratches. I'm pretty sure his house keys are not made of gold (it's too soft and expensive compared to brass). Also, the black isn't painted on, it's anodised. I rate the review less than 4/5.
The camera might be a little gimmick but.. i wouldn't say 4 out of 5 is bad..Plus thats only one review.. im sure you not going to let one review be the deal decision maker for you.. i can only see myself taking a star away for the way HTC handling the release.. but that has nothing to do with the phone.. that's just bad PR

Camera is hardly gimmicky. Everything done is actually for good reason.

If the camera isn't, the term "Ultrapixel" is.
It's not new at all. In fact, the N82 and N95 from over 5+ years ago had both larger sensors (~1/2.5) and larger individual pixel bins than the new flagship from HTC.

Of course, but how else are you going to explain to "educated" consumers that 4MP is better than 13MP?

It IS the best designed smartphone ever made. The previous title goes to the HTC One X in my opinion.
From what I've read, there's something symptomatic in CNET review: they put as a negative point the fact that the phone doesn't have SD card or removable battery, yet that point is never raised when they describe iPhone.
All the fake hands-on video's on youtube are pretty lame. If you see real hands on video of the nexus 9, post them here.
Looks like the verge has a short one up

Whats considered a fake hands on video? There are many legit hands on videos of the Nexus 9...
Looks like you just want a thread

Thanks for the video. This just made things more difficult for me since I'm back to contemplating if I should've chosen white over black....
Here's another:

Just wish these one of these hands-on reviewers commented on the texture of the back. We still have no idea if the back of the WHITE Nexus 9 has a plastic matte finish or a soft-touch finish.
Just wish there was a decent review!

Did anyone notice the Volta app thing in the video from the verge? I wonder if its a google app for project volta or if it's a 3rd paty app
Lol, I've been a LONG time member even if I don't post much. I'm simply on the fence and want to see as many actual hands on videos as possible to help in my purchase decision. If you head over to you tube and search for "nexus 9 hands on" it's pretty easy to see why I made the thread.
I'd like to see one with the keyboard.

There are only about 4 known hands-on videos of the Nexus 9 and 2 of those are in Vietnamese. They interesting thing is that the Vietnamese ones are the most in-depth. The other two are hands on video from Techcrunch and TheVerge where they were only given a very limited amount of time with the device at google.
When he says fake videos, he means the hundreds of videos on youtube that are just either duplicate copies of the same videos, slideshows of pictures and specs, or videos not even related to the Nexus 9. They are basically "clickbait" videos by Youtube uploaders that want views.
Android Central posted a 4 minute hands on video:
the verge's review is just so sad, seriously, you have a nexus device for a one minute review?

You are aware that The Verge's video was not a "one minute review", right?
1) It was a hands-on
2) It was a video with a time-limited constraint, most likely at Google's premises, unlike Android Central's hands on that came two days later and without such time constraint.
Just sayin....
Verge sure as hell ensured that the short amount of time is used to express their own disgust towards products that are not made by Apple in every sentence throughout the hands-on.
They succeeded in doing so.

I think you're overreacting. The worst thing he said about it was that it was a bit thicker than the ipad and that it was an inbetweener device between the ipad mini and ipad air due to its screen size.

I don't like the subtle boredom in his voice, like he's forced to do the review.
Stuff like "well yeah, it's an ANDROID tablet [...] MAYBE that's what you're looking for"... come on.
Seriously, they should go back reviewing to their super-duper premium iPads that have no flaws at all and giving it 11/10 in the scores.

It is because of inflammatory statements such as this one that invalidate your other claim of him sounding bored which may be very well the case, but due to the typical "Android fanboy"-hyperbolic claims, you're making it harder for the rest of us when we intend to make an actual criticism.
The hands-on done by The Verge was not an Android bashing party, nor an iPhone praising celebration as you're making it sound.
Of course the last sentence was over the top as Im pissed off by the way certain reviewers dont even try to hide their bias ..
Seriously I don't know what to think. I've owned android tablet since the Folio 100 something like 4 years ago and now I got a Note 2014 but ...
It's a pain in the update, just look at my last 4.4 update :/ should I think about getting an IPad on will this one be the one ?
Thx for the vids

Maybe some people just have smug sounding voices. We should just accept reviews at face value based on the content of their words, not by their tone. If anything, the guy's opinions were pretty objective, moreso than any i've seen on the Nexus 9. Lacking in both criticisms and superlatives.

What exactly about the Note 2014 was a pain to update?
I've owned 3 Nexus devices (4,5, and 7 2012) and they were a breeze to update. Just had to wait a week or two for it become available OTA.
