Having just purchased a TF300T I did some playing around to figure this out.
Mine was originally on WW .17 firmware but in doing an OTA update to .26 my root got messed up.
I used Wolf's downgrade method found here to downgrade to US .17 since WW .17 blob is no where to be found.
little did I realize that US .17 could not receive OTA updates in Canada...
After some messing around again using Wolf's method I "downgraded" to DE .17 to try and get the WW OTA update.
I updated via OTA to .26 and as others have reported, going from .17 DE rooted to WW .26 I was unable to restore root with OTA Rootkeeper.
I decided to go the certain route and used a micro SD card containing the extraced WW .29 firmware and booted my TF300T with it inserted.
A Caution symbol showed up in the status bar and when clicking on it indicated a firmware update to .29 WW and after running it and waiting about 10 minutes my Transformer was on a new clean copy of WW .29 *unrooted*
I installed the Asus' unlock tool, ran it, unlocked and installed CWM (method here)and used it to install XpLoDWilD's simple root.
And there I am, my nice new TF300T on WW .29 Rooted... Wolf and XpLoDWilD are my heroes.
Hopefully my experiences will help someone else.

You forgot to point out that you also permanently voided your warranty as well since you unlocked it. That's important to share as well.

Indeed, and thats why some people (like me) wait for the .17 WW blob.
Cause I dont want to lose my warrenty, over something simple as rooting the device. Cause I dont need a custom rom, and so dont need a custom recovery.
Holding off on rooting for the time being. Perhaps down the line if I see a compelling reason. Rooted and put a custom ROM on my Nook Color out of necessity before. Don't have that necessity with the TF300.

I have been getting this update for my TF101 every few days or so. It downloads an update, then when I click on install update it reboots, starts loading the update and fails halfway through the intall giving me the sad android with the triangle exclamation point. I read on another thread that you have to clear the cache in DMClient, which I do every time this happens. But why does it continue to send me this stupid update? When I followed the previous thread I mentioned, I was able to see that the update was actually meant for the prime, not the TF101. Just wish they would stop sending me an update that makes me get my hopes up for ICS.
Anybody else having this happen?
Maybe you chosen by asus to be a lucky ICS beta tester.

haha, yeah if this is what ICS is going to be like, then no thanks. I am not really having any issues with honeycomb at the moment (after overclocking). But like most everybody else, I can't wait to try out something shiny and new.
Maybe the OP should UNROOT and install a legit ROM in order to be able get the update??

That's probably the way to go, but I've had no luck thus far. I'm on stock Rom with Netformer 1.6 kernel. I tried doing this with OTA Rootkeeper. Unrooted, installed update, got same error. Then rebooted and re-rooted with the OTA Rootkeeper app. Does this mean I need to revert back to original kernel? Everything has been pretty good on Netformer, and it's definitely more snappy than stock.

Which stock ROM are you on? You might be getting the OTAs if you aren't running the latest (8.6.5.21?). The custom kernel probably installed a kernel module that is preventing the update from flashing.
Can you grab the OTA? I'm curious what they are sending you. It will be in /cache/dlpkgfile- you can copy that someplace and upload it. I think these should do it, but PM if you need help with terminal commands.
In terminal, type:
cp /cache/dlpkgfile /Removable/MicroSD/
OR with adb:
adb pull /cache/dlpkgfile
Here's the zip. Maybe you can tell me what this update really is. I guess my current stock Rom version is 8.6.5.19. Sounds like the kernel is preventing me from updating. The real question is, do I want to install any of these updates from Asus? Any disadvantage that you know of?
That file is the US 8.6.5.21 OTA. I lost track of the all the root methods, but I thought that Nachoroot was working with .21. I've never used OTA rootkeeper, so I can't comment on if that will work.
It's kinda odd how you are getting it now? There is a rooted version of the stock rom you can flash via CWM so that you don't have to unroot. It will have the stock kernel and you will keep whatever bootloader you have now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409584
EDIT: doaist has posted CWM friendly versions of the OTAs as well- there are much smaller files since they patch the existing rom. Look in the development forum- The OTA came out around Christmas, so it will be after that.
Thanks for the info. I'll flash the updated rom and see how it goes.

You're running an image that has different hash values than Asus original image has... that is why Asus validation does not work. Hence, you should revert back to the original image Asus provides.
This answer have been given ALOT of times in other threads already.
I rooted mine with nachoroot on the 21 update. It works fine.

I read somewhere on the forums, if you applied an update from asus one time, then you can't get the same again. just flash manual from download site.
I just ordered a TF101 on cowboom today and I'm wondering if I should root it ASAP or allow it to upgrade to ICS and then root. Does it really matter what updated OS will be present with regard to rooting?
Let it update then root it (that's what i did when i got mine a couple of days ago). It's just as easy to root ICS now.

The version of ICS does matter. The TF101G (the 3G version) of ICS is not currently rootable. Based on that, the next update of ICS for the regular version TF101 will not be rootable either, and, if the new thread someone just started about a new OTA firmware update becoming available now is true and if you hadn't updated to ICS before now, it may be too late to do so and still be able to root it.
In that case, instead of OTA, you'd probably have to root on Honeycomb, install Rootkeeper, use root to install a custom recovery, use the custom recovery to install a rootable version of ICS [because many, including myself, somehow lost root when upgrading from Honeycomb to ICS], root ICS if unrooted and unrecoverable from Rootkeeper, doublecheck Rootkeeper, and then hope the next ICS update does not unroot and block Rootkeeper [which is where most of us are now].

This sounds like I could be in for some trouble. I'm not the best at rooting(was able to do my Evo4g and Nook Tablet) but this seems like there are quite a few little details to it. Can I return the tablet if I am unsuccessful at rooting or will I void any return because of it?
Since you bought it through a kind of second hand store I don't think they will know the difference between a bad root brick and just an actual brick so you "should" be able to return it, but technichally once you begin the rooting process your device warranty should already be voided.
Although, a new update just came out today and if it does everything that it says it does you may not need to root to have a fully functional device.
Cowboom has a very easy return policy because they know they are dealing with returned goods (from Best Buy). All you have to do is send them a request for an RMA, and they'll send you one promptly. Just be sure to do it within the allowed return period.
It's too bad you didn't update to ICS prior to last night's update being released. It would have been so much easier to root ICS that way (using ViperMOD), but now the latest ICS is probably not rootable for the time being. If you update OTA now, you (probably) can't root, so decide first before letting the OTA updater do its thing. Or go the longer Clockwork Recovery route I mentioned above for root.
I have decided i no longer care to have a rooted tablet. I have a B7O TF101 with SBKv2 and the idea that I don't have the ability top use nvflash has been holding me back from flashing custom roms. So many times there are issues with custom software and I don't wanna end up with my tablet bricked, there is no other need to have root, it's keeping me from installing OTAs when they come out. I don't wanna sound like I'm whining about it but really im justsick of having half functionality. So I'm gonna unroot. I have several phones I can use to fulfill my ORD so what's the easiest way to unroot a B7O on .11?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
IF you have CWM, just download the official firmware from Asus.
Flash it via CWM and you'll be unroot with stock recovery.
Like an update? The reason i havent upgraded to .17 was because I read that it wouldn't upgrade properly if you were on rooted .11. I've had the option to install the update since it was released but didn't want to brick it.

Why unroot when you can temp unroot with "OTA Rootkeeper"? You can always leave it temp unrooted, but it will still give you the option to change your mind.
Has anybody tried to root or been able to root the NEW transformer? Its the one to replace the prime. I see that its competitor the ACER A510 has been rooted already and it came out after the TF300. Both have ICS.
Someone said that they tried to root it like the previous transformers and it did not work. Is this true? Anyone working on it?
If you accepted the ICS update (like I did....Doh!!!) Then it appears you're gonna have to wait a while until they crack the newest TF201 update. Very likely that whatever solution is found for the current TF201 will work for TF300, too.

Can anyone help me please.
I bought a 2nd hand rooted a500.
successfully flashed to a near stock 3.2.1, but then decided that i wanted to return to stock in order to get OTA updates up to ICS. With a little help on here I managed to flash one of the stock 3.2 roms from vache.
system now
android version = 3.2
kernel version = 2.6.36.3+
build number = Acer_A500_7.006.03_COM_GEN1
as was the aim, however I'm not recieving any OTA updates, system update claims tablet is up to date!
Has anyone experienced this too, or got any ideas where i'm going wrong

Have you installed the incona tab update enhancement from the play store
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the reply, yes i had installed the update enhancement from play store.
I have now solved the problem so i thought i'd share what i found.
The problem I had:-
I was rooted, but wanted to go back to stock to try the stock OTA ICS. I flashed a stock 3.2 full package from vache's page. The one I went with was 7.006.01_com_gen1. Carried out successfully, however no updates available when doing the system update search. waited a week still nothing, even tried factory reset to clear everything out.
Solution:-
I got impatient so flashed the unstable 3.0.1 rom intending to root again.
before rooting i tried flashing other stock roms (no reason it shouldn't work i reasoned). Successfully flashed full package 4.010.38_com_gen1 (vache's page). tried OTA updates from there and it was successful!!
OTA'd to 7.006.01, then 7.014.01, then on to ICS
Conclusion:-
the difference appears to be the version of android 3.2, I can only assume that 7.006.03 isn't supported in the UK where as 7.006.01 is. If i'd flashed that one in the first place I assume the updates would have worked.
Hey, can you point me to the files and instructions on how to get this done? I rooted it to 7.006.05 long before using thor rom I believe. Not very familiar with the rooting game, but I'm still unable to get ICS update OTA.
FYI, Acer a500 8gb model US.

My understanding from reading around a few threads is that OTA tends not to work if you are rooted and/or running CWM. Not sure on process of un-rooting as i've not done it. But i'm guessing one solution would be flash a stock version of same rom, then do OTA updates.

If you rooted via CWM its really straight forward, I followed these instructions

just follow 2. and/or 3.
I want to keep root and go to ics. I know I need to install ics bootloader but have not found a solid thread yet, at least not one that I can flash. Anyone that can direct me to a proven method from 3.2 will be appreciated. I am rooted and gave custom recovery installed cwm.
