Turn on tablet
I love this, thanks. Also, since there is a Lock button in the top right of the keyboard I was wondering if there's any way to unlock (and turn on) the tablet using just the keyboard. Have any of you found this?

i was wndering about that aswell lol and can anyone use the middle bunnto on there dock, i have it set as menu but it dont work
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using XDA Premium HD app

Question
Is there anyway to re-assign the "browser" hotkey to point to a different browser or app?
I would love to change it from the asus stock browser to Chrome.

Go to ASUS Customized Settings and disable MobileDock Battery saving mode.

How much battery would that use up? I wouldn't think much but as its in the battery save bit I may be wrong, and is it just my middle button that doesn't work ?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Well, you can always try it yourself and see if it's a huge or barely noticeable difference As for the middle button, I don't think the touch pad has it, but it works with a mouse, if you connect it to your tablet.

i never thought about the mouse lol, i spent ages tring to get it to click lmao but im trying that keyboard setting thing so ill see how it goes
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using XDA Premium HD app

I was playing around with the settings it seems that even with "mobile dock battery savings" turned on you have a small window after locking the tab in which you can still use the touch pad or buttons to wake the tablet. But I still can't figure out why it won't unlock after opening it from a closed position. I though they would have fixed this in the latest update. Unless it's not a bug

It's not a bug, in the Asus Customized settings the mobile dock battery savings is automaically on. This means that when the pad goes to sleep it cuts the connection to the keyboard to save power so it doesn't have to power the keyboard when it's sleeping. If you turn mobile dock battery savings off the pad will wake up by a simple click on any key In some cases it might take a few seconds but generally works quite well. One "problem" but that doesn't annoy me is that you have to press the play/pause button twice to pause music. One to wake the screen and one more to actually pause the music. These are just some limitations in android and I don't mind I seriouly love this tablet.
One question, which button is the menu key? I've been looking for an easy way to cut and paste text, people say it's Menu plus X then Menu plus V to paste but it doesn't seem to work :S
Found the menu key guys, sorry, sadly it seems that selecting text and cutting and pasting is one thing this tablet doesn't do too well, but it's not bad either, I guess I'll get used to it

AE Button Plus 2.5....nice on Athena.

For those who are not familiar with this nifty yet inexpensive bit of software, AE Button allows multiple actions (up to 4) to be programmed to the buttons of your Pocket PC...and is perfectly compatible with the Athena.
I really feel the need for this after having had so many buttons on my long gone HTC Hermes.
I've configured some basic functions on mine so far with pleasing results and no incompatibilities so far.
Joystick configuration:
1 click = 'Enter' (no change there)
2 clicks = 'Open File Explorer' (that has simplified things for me somewhat and is very intuitive to use this way as 2 clicks opens a folder and 1 click confirms my selection)
Comm Manager configuration:
1 click = 'Switch on wi-fi' another click switches it off
Long Press = 'Switch on Blutooth' another Long press switches it off
Camera Button Configuration:
1 Click = 'Camera application' (no change here)
Long Press = 'Opens Resco Photo Viewer' (similar category of applications on one button - again intuitive)
OK Button Config: (On device - not keyboard)
1 click = 'Really closes apps' (linked to Wisbar's OK/Close function)
That's all I've done so far, but then I have at least 2-3 more configurations per button if I need it, which has also freed up space on the 'Start Menu' - only 7 choices allowed by default.
It's worth a look if you don't allways want to go through the various option menu's to get to that one or several important apps or folders or to simply initiate something.
Just considering a quick soft-reset by double clicking the Windows key...1 click brings up the cascading menu (wisbar)...would be nice to soft-reset on a double click (but this particular Windows key is usually tricky if at all possible to reconfigure like the other ones).
Anyway just wanted to share this in case anyone else found it useful.
THANK YOU!

I'm so grateful that you posted this. I was about to purchase Vito Button Manager but the program isn't exactly what I wanted. You can't see the joystick, ok button on device, etc. And I wanted more options, like the four you mentioned here. Great job on providing us with this info....and in my case just in time. Thanks again bro!
So can you program every button on the device? Even the Windows icon button and the browser button?
Thanks from me too. The one thing I knew I would miss from my current PDA (which has 6 programmable buttons each in press and press and hold mode).
Looks like a great alternative.
Great heads up thanks. I'll be adding this as soon as I've customised my Vista-esque, TrueVGA, WA/WAD setup to my liking (spending waaay too long on it!).
Glad I could help guys.
BTW, the 'Windows key' under the 'OK' button (on the device itself) won't let me configure it, so I have now added a 'Long Press' to the Joystick to soft-reset. It works very well and quicker than 'psshutXP' or any other SIP alternative.
Also changed the 'Comunication Manager Button' to:
1 click = Wi-fi on/off
2 clicks = Bluetooth on/off
Long Press = Opens Comm Manager (retaining original functionality)
Note: Had to enable the long press mode of 'Voice Recorder' to = Open Comms Mangr aswell, otherwise it caused a conflict.
How did you get the joystick and the OK button to program? I tried ADD BUTTON but no luck. What hex shows up for the added buttons?
When I did the install I got the 3 buttons plus press and hold, green phone, red phone, left softkey, right softkey, up, down, left, right, enter/action, vol up, vol dn.
Hope this helps.

Lucky for you I'm still up. Ha ha.
Anyway...the Joystick button is already recognized as 'Enter/Action'. Simply select that option and click in the big blank box directly below.
1st Option = 3.'Handle by AEBPlus'
2nd Option = 1. 'Single press' &
3rd Option= 'Press Enter' (this retains the default function)
Then 2nd option = 2. 'Double press' (in the drop down option box below chose) 2. 'Run application' & below that chose 'File Explorer'
Then return to 2nd option drop down box again:
= 4. 'Long press' & in the box below chose;
= 37. 'Soft-Reset your Device'.
That's it!
The OK button should show up as 'Win Key', Button #4075...I have only assigned this to open 'cascading start menu', as this is a system key/button as is the 'Windows' key directly beneath it and they are either complex or presently incapable of being re-mapped.
Hope the above explanation was not too confusing, but it's late and I'm probably functioning on 0.001% of the less than 5% of brain power I'm capable of using at best. lol.
Good luck
Thanks Mackaby007!
I was able to get the OK key mapped as:
1. Show today
2. Ostia (my GPS)
I figure I'll add ilauncher and always be only two taps from the app I need.

There's another button in the menu which selects 'Voice Recording' on a long press through the comms button. This is causing your conflict.
You need to assign control of that function to AEB as well and then assign Comms manager via long press.
So effectively you have to configure that 'long press' function twice! Once in the Comms Button and once for the pre-programmed 'Voice ' recorder, as it uses the same button.
Hope that was clear. Let me know how you got on.
well, I have assigned 'long press' function twice like you said but no effect...
Hi Mackaby007, thanks for sharing.
I am using the Dopod U1000 CHT, loaded the English cab, and always got problem going into the Buttons setting (just hang), need to soft reset and go in again. When I am able to go into the buttons setting, I can only config (under normal windows setting) these buttons
Button1, Camera
Button2, Opera Browser
Button3, Comm Mgr
Button3 (press & hold), Voice Recorder
I tried using BurrOak Hotbutton Plus V3.0, new version, with nicer graphics. Assign HotButton Plus to a button3 (biggest easiest to press) - repeatedly pressing the button will cycle through your jog tasks (I have enable Phone & SPB full screen keyboard).
http://www.burroak.on.ca/hbplus.html
Anyone can provide me the full register for the hardware button, so I can also control other button (press & hold)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys, currently I have only 40C1 (button1, camera), 40C2 (button2, Opera Browser), 40C3 (button3, Comm Mgr) and 40C4 (button3 press & hold, voice recorder)
The AE button plus ver 2.41 onwards cause problem with CallSMS Blocker. If AEB is installed on the device then the CallSMS Blocker causes the phone to hang. The PPC's other functions continue to work properly...Any body faced such problem??

Hi johnnykok. Sorry can't help you with that app. It's the first time I've seen it. Looks nice though.
Having said that, I would imagine that the memory footprint of this app might be bigger than that of AEB, plus I have no issues with AEB, so probably won't even look at anything else.
I usually stick to what works for me unless I come across a problem. Sorry.

Try version 2.51 That's what I'm using. C if you still get that conflict....if so, write to the developers as they are pretty good and will try to incorporate a fix by the next release, but try their latest version first.

Asci...you have to assign the long press function to 2 different buttons.
1st button is the comms button (above the power button)
2nd button is the same button physically, but it's the long press function that Windows has assigned to it, which is 'voice recorder'. That virtual button is in the main menu and has an icon that looks like a cassette. You have to configure that button to allow AEB to handle it first, then assign the long press function of it to open comms manager.
If you don't do it this way, there is a conflict because windows has assigned that function on a long press and you have already assigned a function to that using the comms button....it's all a bit confusing.
See the images below. Hope this helps.

Also, doesn't the Athena/x7500/Advantage come with a Task Manager that allows for this functionality already? Start, Settings, System...then click on Task Manager.

TP2 button remap?

Just got this phone and I really like it so far...but I really miss the Dpad and arrow keys..can anyone point me in the direction of a good button remapper? I was thinking about changing the End key to an Enter key if possible.
I use VolDpad to replace the dPad using the volume control hardware keys (see the first post in the sticky thread in this forum). I've seen posts about remapping the keyboard keys, but that's not something i've looked into.
As a side note, I've remapped the PTT button using the defult Settings -> Personal -> Buttons path (Tilt2) and Advanced Configuration Tool will allow a fair bit of key remapping (menu -> more settings -> somethingorother) -- sorry, too lazy at the moment to find the link to this app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554240
Don't bother with VolDPad and use the keyboard remapper linked above. It's much more configurable and it works with all apps (eg, click and hold with VolDpad did not work in Opera Mini and using it in my call history caused it to scroll endlessly, requiring a hard reboot). The keyboard remapper program lets you configure ALL keys including the volume buttons and the end & enter keys, so there's no point in using VolDpad.
I have:
Vol Up click - up
Vol Up dbl click - left
Vol Up trpl click - back
Vol Up long press - repeat up
Vol Down click - down
Vol Down dbl click - right
Vol Down trpl click - select
Vol Down long press - repeat down
triple click Home - toggle bluetooth
triple click Back - toggle wifi
long press Back - vol up (this basically enables the volume control with I can raise and lower with the up and down keys mapped to volume keys)
FN + C - ctrl C
FN + V - ctrl V
FN + X - ctrl W
FN + Z - alt F4
FN + Q - close open window
FN + Mail - Alt Enter
It's really an amazing app.

If you go to the Swype page at http://swypeinc.com/tips-tricks.html there are a lot of good tips for using Swype that are not in the tutorial.
I use Swype when I'm typing something quickly and don't want to open the keyboard. These tips help a lot.
Also, most people probably know this but... The little dots on the bottom of the screen that shows you which home screen you are on... You can touch them instead of swiping to the next screen. Also if you hold-touch the dots it brings up a small view of all your home screens and you can choose one to get to it quickly.

Hanging up phone calls with power button
To me its a hassle not having a hard key end call button. Im not use to it yet but I just found out I can set my power key to end my calls wile im on the phone. I think its perfect.
This is how to do it.
Menu > Settings > Accessibility > You will be prompted to download a reader, just press cancel > Check "Power button ends call" and there you have it!
Not sure if anyone knew this.
if you use Launcher Pro you can actually make those quick keys useful. When you're in the assignment menu choose "Activities" (with the Launcher Pro icon) under "more". This will let you choose virtually any app process to launch with the key. For instance: I have one of my quick keys set to activate the Quick Compose feature in Handcent and another to open up the compose dialog in Tweetcaster. Waaaaaay more useful than just launching an app

my tip. get ADW.Launcher, LauncherPro, or Home++. and useful widgets like the signal strength which lets you know 3G or H network. switch pro is also awesome. make a customizable power control
for those of you that may be unaware:
you can add a Power Control widget to the homescreen (quick access to wifi / gps / bluetooth / screen brightness)...
also there is a Calender widget which displays any upcoming appts & a Google Voice Widget that gives you more functionality than the icon alone.

Hi
Any solutions?

Still nothing really. I found some mouse shortcuts though. Two figure double tap brings up the voice commands. And two figure tap and hold brings up the task manager. It's finicky though. Esc some times brings you to the home page.
Still looking for a good solution.
