How do you get a reboot? On the G1 it was a three key press. What do you do on the G2?

Hold down alt and long press most keys to get an on-screen menu with more symbol options.
example:
ALT + (long press) j = [, {, <
ALT + (long press) k = ], }, >
If you go to the Swype page at http://swypeinc.com/tips-tricks.html there are a lot of good tips for using Swype that are not in the tutorial.
I use Swype when I'm typing something quickly and don't want to open the keyboard. These tips help a lot.
Also, most people probably know this but... The little dots on the bottom of the screen that shows you which home screen you are on... You can touch them instead of swiping to the next screen. Also if you hold-touch the dots it brings up a small view of all your home screens and you can choose one to get to it quickly.

Thank you so much for that! I was wondering how and couldn't get it to work.
It's probably in the manual huh? I never read those
Hanging up phone calls with power button
To me its a hassle not having a hard key end call button. Im not use to it yet but I just found out I can set my power key to end my calls wile im on the phone. I think its perfect.
This is how to do it.
Menu > Settings > Accessibility > You will be prompted to download a reader, just press cancel > Check "Power button ends call" and there you have it!
Not sure if anyone knew this.
if you use Launcher Pro you can actually make those quick keys useful. When you're in the assignment menu choose "Activities" (with the Launcher Pro icon) under "more". This will let you choose virtually any app process to launch with the key. For instance: I have one of my quick keys set to activate the Quick Compose feature in Handcent and another to open up the compose dialog in Tweetcaster. Waaaaaay more useful than just launching an app

Thanks for the tip! awesome!
btw, this also works by just long pressing letters
example:
(long press) e = e with all different accents.
(long press) n = ñ and other accents
The keyboard tip is pretty awesome

my tip. get ADW.Launcher, LauncherPro, or Home++. and useful widgets like the signal strength which lets you know 3G or H network. switch pro is also awesome. make a customizable power control
for those of you that may be unaware:
you can add a Power Control widget to the homescreen (quick access to wifi / gps / bluetooth / screen brightness)...
also there is a Calender widget which displays any upcoming appts & a Google Voice Widget that gives you more functionality than the icon alone.

Hey guys, so I have been using my tp2 for a couple months now and I have noticed some things that could have some kind of App development. I have no idea where to begin with Developing apps and all of that tech stuff, so I'll put my ideas out there. If these things do exist please inform me, thanks
1. Customization of the Mute Key on the back - Personally I have never once touched this button because I dont use the speakerphone that often. My dad on the other hand uses his speakerphone many times throughout the day, but he has still no need for the mute button. Which leads to my ideas of being able to customize it for a push and/or push and hold functionality.
2. A keyboard that is just a D-pad. I tried the "G-pad" app which is supposed to enable to g-sensor to be used for scrolling, but I haven't been able to figure out how to use it properly. I also tried the ZoomAdds scrolling with the Zoom Bar, this is alright, however it doesn't always work for some reason.
3. Im not sure if this one is an app, or just a functionality of the Energy Rom, but i downloaded some apps from the Marketplace and the majority of them dont sort out into the folders in the Energy rom (such as Games, Tools, etc.) Is there an app for this or you can control it from the the settings in the energy rom or something? I didnt install the energy rom on my phone, which is why I know like nothing about it.
I use Keyboard controller for your #1 problem there. I hold my mute button to toggle Wifi on and off.

You can also use rory's suggestion for problem #2 if you want...just map a directional arrow to a long-press of each of the 4 front hardware buttons, in whichever arrangement feels best for you (up/left/right/down, left/up/down/right, whatever)

Definitely. I also have mapped my 4 front buttons to various things...
double press back arrow = CleanRAM
triple press back arrow = Resco File Explorer
long press back arrow = YoMoMedia
triple press home = rotate screen
long press home = iGO8
Im just curious, what is the timeout on the double and triple presses? Like what if i was in a list and i had down set to a single press of the home key, and i pressed it a couple times, and I activated the double press function?

It's pretty reasonable. I was scared of the same thing, but it has never done something I didn't want it to do.
Thanks a lot

Hunting around for solution but surprisingly all seems to be happy with button layouts. Currently my buttons are:
1) Long press SEARCH - dialer One
2) Long press HOME - visual task swither
3) Long press MENU - brings keyboard (default)
4) Long press BACK - ???
Can we assign something on long press BACK? Sleep????
Is there solution for long press MENU to assign something other than coming out with keyboard? I'm thinking about Peoples/contacts.
As for trackball, currently I'm using to wake up with a press. I don't know why but I'm really struggling almost everytime to reach and press power button on top. One more I would much prefer and very happy is to ANSWER calls with a press of trackball while at lockscreen. Perfect!
Many thanks if can point to some directions.
I'm pretty sure similar to the Home Long Press, Back and Menu Long Press are impossible to change system-wide without hacking Android itself (like Home Long Press had to be).
How to clear long press search and assign another app?

Download an app that can use Search Long Press and the next time you press it, Android will ask which app you want to use.

Accidentally found out that while in an app that has fields, pressing and holding the menu button brings up the keyboard - whether you are in a editable field or not.
For example, click Search button, and press Back to hide the keyboard. Now without pressing the address bar, press and hold the menu key - keyboard pops up.
This has been present in froyo too
oops!

TBH, it is kind of flaky. What I ended up doing was using an app to link a long press of the HOME key to SCREENSHOT.
Works much better that way
Swipe up from the home button and use quick memo on the right. It takes a screenshot and then you just press save.

I use the exposed module "Advanced power menu" so when I hold down power, I can reboot, reboot in recovery, power off, or take screenshot....

Now this I likes!!
Nice! Didn't know about the swipe up from home and forgot about the Advanced Power Menu. I was using that at one point and in the process of putting on new roms all the time I forgot to re-engage it.
Thanks for the protips!
Anyone know how to remap the "Home Swipe Left"?
I would like to see voice search there.
Hi All
I've just got a S5 today. Overall I like it a lot however the bloody button res-assignments is soooooooo annoying!
Is there any to re-map the button layout back to the older galaxy versions? I.E.
Press the left button and the menu will activate (I know if I hold it down it will work but I keep forgetting and it brings up the tasker)
Hold the home button to bring up the tasker.
Frustrating yours
Paul

Thanks, I had thought about it but its a new fone and you know what Samsung are like... I'm leaving towards re-mapping the key.
/system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
Anyone know the key number for the left button (Is it 138), what would I need to change to make the default option a menu. I suppose thinking out loud I want to swap the commands over. I.e. I press the key once I get the menu, press and hold I get the tasker.
Thanks
P.
Just long press the left button and the options come up

Your best bet is to use gravity box, as suggested above. You can only change the recents function to menu via the file you mentioned. I believe the rest of the options you want are smali edits.
