xperia play for sensation - Xperia Play General

what you guys think good move?
xperia play for HTC sensation don't use my play much these days (for playing games via touch pads)

I think you shouldn't. There will be times you'll regret not having the gamepad. Is a bit more raw power really worth it?

Depends, do you pay extra? And you will have to reinstall your whole phone. But it's up to you, the Sensation has some better specs.

am not too fussed about reinstalling apps etc doesn't take too long, i have looked in too it and i think ill be getting one am more techie then gamer. i just wonted some last min persuasion to witch ever.
i think sony have been really slow with getting stuff on here i guess thats the main down fall.
if any one wonts to offer me a good price form my play pm me, i have loads of accessories
PS: i bet as soon as i sell it good things happen to the play haha

I wouldn't take up the offer, why?
I got my RD status here, so I'm not abandoning ship till everyone else has.

I have a sensation and using sense4 atm and I'm planning to buy xp in this week. If u want to use sense ui I recommend you to go either one x or s coz sensation can only use 581mb of ram and about 200mb free but multi tasking isn't that great on it. I had nexus s before sensation, this might be the reason I don't feel much difference coz nexus s uses abt 400mb ram atm due to having great kernel devs. For me xp(especially white xp)is very attractive and I like gaming and the main reason is that my thumbs turned really sensitive due to too much wasting time on touch screen lol

This phone is a piece of crap

I am becoming too frustrated using this phone. No official froyo update till now. Those hacked froyo updates always crash and have bugs. Finally decided to gonna sell this crap. Its good for nothing. Samsucks!!
Few days earlier just saw Galaxy Ace on the web, I thought it to be good choice. But that sucks too even it has adreno 200 gpu it isnt able to play fifa and shift smoothly but can say near to it. Developers also dont pay any attention to thse phones. These mid range Samsung phones give worse performance than my ipod touch.
Finally decided to spend some more money and buy a proper phone like xperia play or xperia x10 mini pro 2. Xperia play costs around 400$ according to rumors on the web. Its worth it and i amsure that it would keep me satisfied for six months. These samsung phones wouldnt keep you satisfied for even a week. Therefore we should a get proper one.
I disagree. This phone isn't piece of crap, theses roms, like lestatious, are good, better than oficial. But if you wanna play games, buy pc!!
Yes, you can't play gameloft games, but you can know that before you bought this phone.
Stop cry, flash lestatious rom and try games like angry birds. There are much better games that fifa....

I can play a lot of games just fine. Either you think it's a pocket sized PS3 or you are plain stupid.. Don't expect top notch performance from a relatively cheap low- or mid level range phone, they do good what they are build for, that does not include full 3D games. (which, again, seen to perform just fine because I tried FIFA and The Sims and both played fine.)
Back to the store kid, and get yourself a PSP or something if you want gaming.

I totally Disagree, and you should know that you get what you pay for. This phone costs alot less than those heavy phones and still packs a punch. I own a desire HD also but i still love my SGS 3. Its cute and does what its meant for.
I little disappointed with speed of CPU and custom stuff which aren't a lot a that moment, but like more of you, I don't think it's crap too.
Of course there are better phones but what you expected from mid-class phone.
Anyway as much fun SG3 brought to me like any phone before.
wow
are you really so angry because of just the phone not getting 2.2
or is it something else in your life which has caused you to rant like this.
For its price this is one of the best phone i have used. true there are some shortcomings but nothing is perfect.
As many have said before me it does what it is supposed to. Phone meant for communicating and some light entertainment.
You cant really compare it to an ipod touch. For that matter even the iphone, which if bought officially in india is still more than double of what this phone costs.
So chill, and dont get so worked up.

IF u wanted a gaming mobile phone, Galaxy 3 wasn't a good choice u made.
Screen resolution is too low ...
But otherwise , this phone awesome
And if u want an official update , u better wait for teh ofiicial update while we flash our mobile getting teh best out of it.
There are too many custom ROM's available now.. Who teh heck wants official updates?
If u don't want these custom ROM's, XDA isn't a right place for u ...!
Why teh hell are u here ..!?
May be u'd change u're opinion after u flash u're ROM to teh custom ROM's available here. Give it a try

We hope. 1 Month left until they apparently release it.
But I disagree with the OP. I like the small size, good battery life of this phone. I don't use if for gaming, and to be honest, if I needed a mobile gaming machine I'd get a PSP.
This phone has just the right amount of power so that it performs well and has good battery life.
I think you're fighting a losing battle in the Galaxy 3 section!
if you don't like this phone, sell it.
many people love the galaxy 3, and barqers already said it, but you're fighting a losing battle
Phone for that price is OK, but maintenance from Samsung is piece of crap, that is problem.

Really trying to decide if I should get the SGS 2

I bought the G2x on 4/20 when I came out, I did the payment agreement, where I pay it off it 2 years IR whatever, but I think I still have the option of a 30 day return?
Because I'm seriously considering the Galaxy S 2 almostly purely because I love that the screen takes up most of the phone, rather than the G2x. I also really like the 1gb ram.
It has pretty much everything that my G2x has that I would want.
-Dual Core processor
- 4" + screen
- 8mp camera with LED flash
- HDMI output and recording
I know the huge issue people have with Samsung is the software, but if ROMS come out, which I'm sure they will, then it wouldn't be an issue then?
Something I read online e is that it wont be good for games. Games I play would be like N64 emulator, fruit ninja, doodle jump, robot defense. Would games like that be fine? If so what kind of games are we talking about?
I need a little help in my decision.
I'm also on T-Mobile, so..it would help to know if it is coming out for T-Mobile or would support their 4G bands unlocked?

I know the huge issue people have with Samsung is the software,
You would have to clarify that i have no problem with stock SGS 1 or SGS 2 firmware and prefer touchwiz
but if ROMS come out,
Roms will come out and the phone will be more customizable than stock .
A the devs need to buy or be donated phones and b find time to work on them .
You need to sort out what these issues are for you rather than others .

I had the Optimus X2 which is the same phone just what its called in the UK and have now got the Galaxy S2 and I am glad I sold it, the phone isn't as good as the GS2.
1080P recording on the X2 isn't in the same league as the GS2, its only 24fps and isn't smooth and has no focus of any kind which is rather poor, the one big advantage the x2 has is it has a unlocked boot loader so is much easier to get custom roms out on.
Can't advise you on the gaming side as I am not interested in it, only play the odd game of Angry Birds from time to time but the UK and USA versions of the GS2 use the Exynos processor clocked at 1.2Ggz, and as you said 1gig ram is a big bonus.
People only really have issues with TouchWiz on the GS2 and lets be honest the LG launcher is such a copy of TouchWiz it looks identical but I use launcher pro anyway, another thing is the internet browser on the GS2 is really really good, I personally use a different browser to the stock one but its super smooth can handle full flash enabled all the time and never gets jerky like it does on the x2.

Will there be Xperia Play successor

Hello Guys
I am a samsung galaxy s2 owner, i am contemplating switching it for the xperia play.
however i am in 2 minds i'm thinking to wait for the xperia play successor, which will be a improvement, if there is one that is.
at the mo it looks like xperia play is a disappointment & SE might scrap it.
On the other hand what about the playstation suite certified sector they have recently opened which the xperia play and 2 others tabs are promoting,
does the play have a future.
whats your recommendations guys?

If you want to buy a phone, whichever it is, you must buy it for what it can do now. The Xperia Pay allows you to play games and emulators better than any other phone. It's not state of the art tech, it doesn't have an orgasmic screen, but you can destroy people in multiplayer FPS at your liking.

Keep the Galaxy II, that is all I need to say.....
Depends what you like to do with your phone.... Touchscreen gaming??? Give me a break.... That's like using a computer without a mouse... Yea its possible with just keyboard but not the best experience. Dual core phones that are out now are fast but by the time they start optimizing good games or programs to dualcores, the quad will take over. You can't chase technology unless you are getting a new phone every 6 months. Get the play now if you are a gamer, i promise you would love it. And if you are not a gamer, get a nokia flip phone. It makes calls and texts without dual core, and the battery lasts more then a week without charging

There might be a successor there might not? Either way it won't change the experience with the sexplay. It really won't make any difference at all cause it's in the future and if you can't appreciate what you have now and keep chasing the newest and presumably best you'll never enjoy what you have. It's a gamers phone and that's it's purpose and it does its job really good. If you're not that much into gaming there's better phones out there that will suite your needs.
The sexplay as a phone alone is ok and as a gaming phone just plain awesome. It can the things most other android devices can do and then it just tops it with a gamepad.
I defo wouldn't wait for a successor i would by now and then trade in for the next sexplay when or if it comes.
I think it will come and i already think this device is a sucsess.

Personally I'm glad that SE had enough decency to at least ship the thing with Gingerbread...look at Motorola and LG. And you're 100% correct about being happy with what you have. At the rate new Android phones are being released we're likely to have a phone with a Sandy Bridge i7 by next year.

Agreed. Weak display and low app storage hurts the Play, compared to the SG2.
That is unless old school gaming is about 80% of what the OP wants. Then the Play is tops.
don't see why everyone is giving out about the Play's display, apart from the brightness I think it's beast!
There is nothing the s2 can run that the play can't... That's all I gotta say. There isnt a need for a successor if this one can run everything out there.
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Let's be honest guys, it is all about the gaming with the Play. The screen is not super AMOLED, granted, but I have no problems with it, even in sunlight. No phone is great in bright sunlight, so that argument is a non starter really. Dual core? No, but like the PC world, how much software is currently being written to exploit this, there can't be much yet, surely? It's horses for courses. You want a big display, don't get the Play. You want a physical keyboard, don't get the Play. You want a brilliant gaming phone, not just contest, get the Play.

App storage is not a problem if you root your phone, and even if you don't It will still hold a lot of Apps if you manage it properly. Most of the time people behave like kids in a sweet shop, download every app they think they might need and only use a small subset of them.
The screen on the Play is the best of the bunch of my phones.
I thought I would be playing mostly emulated games but I have been pleasantly suprised by the support GameLoft & others are giving to the Play.
If you like playing action games on your smartphone there is no alternative to the Xperia Play on the market.
Infact the phone is very snappy Android Phone.

Why People Searcing A New Phone ?

Hi Everyone,
I saw a lot of posts in Xperia Play section like " I will buy a new phone. I will switch my Play. " I know, the reason is ICS update. But, If we get ICS, we will never use it smoothly, right ? Ice Cream Sandiwch was came a lot of Xperia. But, which Xperia can use ICS smoothly ? Let's assume that, we got ICS. ICS uses a lot of RAM. (Let anyone accept this, please!) And ICS isn't a gaming friend. But Xperia Play is gaming phone. I mean ICS is not for us anyway. What do you guys think ?
hmm, older phones with similar or worse specs can handle ics well, like nexus s,htc one v (same chipset, 512mb ram)
The problem with ICS is the gaming aspect, not hardware limitations.
Sent from my R800x using XDA
People are too spoiled these days. Once they learn that a newer version of ANYTHING is coming to their device, they absolutely HAVE to have it. And if a company decides to back out of its promise (like Sony did with ICS for Xperia Play), people will cry on internet forums and some even decide to get rid of their phone in favour of another one that can run ICS. Though they somehow ignore the fact that doing this, they lose the BIGGEST advantage Xperia Play has over any other phone - physical controls.
My next phone will be Sony Xperia U SK25i
Getting it near Xmas and will keep my play

It's not about ICS itself, it's about Sony not keeping promises: ICS, PSP games etc.
Speaking for myself, The Xperia play is a good phone, not great, i bought seeking for game specs on a phone, such as you would by a pc for games, you would think it would have alot more then any phone, but in fact it had less specs the only thing it has is physical controls, but in may games you can switch your physical keyboard to make it a gamepad or add a usb gamepad to work with it, so it really doesnt give you such a difference, im always laggy on games and even on the homescreen some times, ICS on the rom from keiran im running much better then on the 2.3.4 official firmware, thats why im going to leave behind the play.
Besides the fact of sony backing up on releasing the ICS which i've been expected since they announce it

sony should just release the sources for their touchpads, this would be great, and we can finally switch to roms like cm9 and aokp with touchpad support!
Well, for me I'll switch back to good old HTC with the One X this time, only reason I bought an SE Xperia is cause of the gamepad and so far it's been a real good experience. I don't care about the ICS it's ugly. One X with MIUI rom I'm looking forward to.
As someone who had a Galaxy Nexus and used a USB OTG cable for my USB gamepad, the Play is a savior. I thought I'd be all set, but it prevents you from charging the device at the same time. Plus you have to prop it up somewhere. It was really annoying. Nothing beats physical controls, and this thing runs emulators like a champ. No complaints here.
The fact that I know for as long as I have this phone I need to stick to the same version is depressing. Since I cant unlock my bl I can't install the epic Roms. Thats the only reason I no longer want to keep my phone, id rather a regularly updated one. But I'm not selling this phone yet. I'll give it awhile.

Why can't you unlock? At least you don't have to pay like R800x users.
I also still like the play and as I got no extra money, I won't be able to switch to another phone in a while.
That it's not getting update to ICS is for me on the one side noot so much important...
But on the other site... I simply hate getting lied right to my face, and thats what happend here. I bought the phone with SONY's promise it will get ICS in April and now it doesn't.
Thats actually ground enough to sue them because they tricked you into buying it with false promises.
Highlighting that aspect from another side - They are not keeping their well documented promise to update to android 4, that means my phone is missing all the functions an android 4 update would have brought -> Underperforming phone / phone with missing functionalities, as they promised to update and now do not. Should be enough to get some money back as you do not get the full functionalities you actually bought by paying full price...
tbh. I'm just pissed of at the company right now... Sony (we) make. (You) believe
I got the galaxy 3 and I'm not looking back.. Best phone I've ever had

Sony dropped the ball long ago. The play is my last Sony phone. There's just so much better options now a days.
Support for the play didn't even last 1 year, my money is to important to throw it at a company who isn't in for the long run.
Buying into Sony these days is like buying into rim. A costly error when you can do so much better.
I hate to say it but this is a throw away market, problem is some companies treat there customers the same way.
why sony didn't give us ics:
it is not for touchpad support as they already got that fixed.
it is about the gaming performance.
i have contact with a sony dev and he said: game developers wouldn't update the games with touchpad support for ics, because they don't earn enough money from xperia play users. as i completely undertstand that because this is a game phone.
now people says: why doesn't give sony us something else as compromise? they do! they are helping the freexperia group with fixing things and they see what they can do else (with fxp) for ous
If we ever get Jellybean for our "Play" and gaming comes back... then can we question Sony for their lack of support?? I agree that it is not just about the gamepads and that ICS isnt as smooth as GB was for gaming, but now what do Xperia Play owners do? We must stay with GB basically outdating our phones(by far). I know its not all Sonys fault but we lose more then them seeing how we paid for our phone. Jellybean=working games & touchpads....what do you think?

I don't think people dislike the play. But are grumpy because it kinda flopped in the market. And there's multiple things that caused it too.
But that's what xda is for, to make the best of it. And yes I like it for the game pad, the phone itself may only be middle of performance vs other Android phones but whatever.
Wow, definitely considering this device now, If its announced at IFA the Xperia s will ultimately be dumped as the flag ship.

Just sharing. As of late I feel that Sony's phones seem way behind the competition. But by the looks of things this phone looks nice and seems to have some power behind it....

And...to me.. I really like the clean look. Would I give up my Xperia PLAY for that...hell no.

It is kinda nice looking, I like the smooth simple design. But your right, giving up my play for anything else is pretty much not gonna happen.
I will re house my phone once a year before I get another device!

i cant really unterstand what people have against the play. mine runs very smooth with custom rom. Gaming is good(i mostly care for emulators) and the overall expirience is good. My girlfriend got a S2(as i did 1 year ago) and i dont want to trade. I just love the gamepad.
The camera is not that good and the ram could be more but thats the only complain i do have now...
