Hi,
Is there anything I have to do for the GT 7.7 to charge while it's on? I´ve notice that it will only charge when it's off.
I've tested charging via usb and via outlet (2 different cables). I´m using the rom that came with it (as a matter of fact I haven't even rooted the tablet).
Any thoughts?
Which charger are you using? Seems you need to use a correct rated charger (ie the one that came with it) for it. Normal usb power hasn't got sufficient power.
You can trick it into using usb but you need an adapter from eBay

I´m using the charger that came with it. I've tried charging connected to my laptop and I've tried connected to the outlet (at least this last one should work).

Charging using usb port has not enough current (500mA only), unless your computer has a high current output usb port (1A - not many have).
The supplied charger is rated at 2A if I'm not mistaken, and take around 3 hrs to fully charge from empty, maybe more...

It DOES charge, but only when it´s turned off.
It will charge when off if you are using the USB cable
If you are using the cable that plugs into a powerpoint then it'll charge when ever.

I remember on my WinMo phones there was a program to speed up the charging through a USB port. Anyone know of a similar app, hack, what have you for our Heros?
all that ever got me was an overheated phone. and defective batteries

you could try a wireless charger, or use the normal wall charger or get a 3rd party battery.
I use a 3rd party battery, and my phone charges from Dead, to full in under 2 hours. i think my brand battery is a radioshack one but i dont remember, and im too lazy to look lol
If the phone detects that it's hooked to a USB port, it'll charge more slowly because the typical computer port will only output 500 mA. A wall charger typically does a full amp.

No thank you, i dont need something else to carry around. I work next to a computer. it just sucks that if my phone is near dead in the am when i arrive to work it will have to be tethered to the computer most of the day to fully recharge.

yes, thank you. i know. that's why i am asking for a program to trick the device into believing its always the wall charger while its plugged into anything with that program running.

There is no point in "tricking" the device to think it's the wall charger because what you want is the phone to charge up, not to beleive it's charged up when it's not. The usb port will not output more than 500mA. The phone will only charge as fast as 500mA will get you, no matter what tricks we try to pull on them.

Actually, most USB 2.0 ports can unofficially support up to 1000mA (which is indeed out of spec), with the only limitation from the device itself which when in spec will not draw more than 500mA. This is why no2chem's Fastcharge worked on WinMo phones, by increasing the maximum limit on the device.

I don't know where you're coming from, but the phone will indeed pull more current when it detects it's on a wall charger. I specifically remember seeing it in the manual.
Has anybody heard anything new on this matter, I really hate not being able to charge at 1A from a computer USB anymore. 500mA is pretty much useless, especially in constant usage, it pretty much just maintains the current %.
from less than 10% to 100% in about 30 minutes when plugged into the wall...turn your phone off while charging!! itll charge so much faster!!
This was specifically about usb....
I seem to remember hearing you can tweak some usb wires (I guess remove the data pins) so the phone thinks it's on AC but I'd want to have connectivity as well as the swift charging. Otherwise I'd have to have two cords on me, though I wonder if the phone charges "AC speed" while off (since there's no mind to talk to the PC's OS)

I know this does't work, as I have a cable with no data pins (it's a cheapy charge cable only) and it's still slow on a pc to charge.

I have a belkin travel power surge protector with 3 outlets and 2 usb ports on it. The phone, when plugged into it, doesn't detect that it is plugged into AC power and just charges at USB speeds. Anybody know why? Will it only charge at AC speed if it detects the HTC supplied Ac adapter?

But the problem here is with the software not hardware lol, all someone has to do is change the value of "when connected to computer: Charge 1A" instead of "when connected to computer: Charge 0.5A" (simplified of course)

Hey just wondering if I use a AC adapter to charge my Legend via USB, when its plugged in I can't unlock the phone, the screen seems to only recognise touch for about half a second, eg. I can swipe my finger to use the unlock bar but it only goes about half way to the right and the same thing for the mute button, it only goes about half way to the left.
Charging via USB connected to the computer works perfectly but it's just when I'm charging via AC adapter. Thought it was weird - might have something to do with the phone getting too much electricity through the AC?
AC charging works fo' me
It should work the same with or without charging.

In fact, one like that came with my Legend (as well as with my previous HTC phone). Did you guys get something different?
I went out of town this week and made sure to grab my USB cable, but left the AC adapter at home figuring I'd just charge off my laptop via usb. Apparently not... I also tried plugging the USB cord into my iPhone AC/usb adapter with no luck. The only thing I've found is that when you turn off the Tab and connect to one of these devices, a green battery indicator will pop up showing that it is charging. Well, after about 16 hours, it made it from 15% all the way up to 48%. Does anyone know any way around turning it off to charge or why it is barely charging when it is off?

Well seeing as it has a 7000mAh battery, just about any run-of-the-mill USB charger isn't going to cut it. The amperage would have higher as well. Now i would hazard that an iPad charger (10 watts) would probably work just fine vs an iPod charger.
Your laptop's USB port isn't providing enough juice to charge fully. With the screen off it will only trickle charge and very slowly at that.
You'll need at least 5 Volt 2 Amp chargers.
You can also try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14890063&postcount=16
Or this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/190522553195?ru...ee-All-Categories&_fvi=1&_rdc=1#ht_3085wt_905
I've ordered both last week but neither have arrived yet. I'll report back.
You need a 5vdc supply that will provide 2A. 10W, not 5w as the previous post said. That adapter on ebay won't help the charge, it just disconnects the data line so it does not change its mode when connected to a computer. There are a lot of power supplies that will work and even more that won't, just made sure it supplies 2a. If you want to charge off your laptop then you will want a Y adapter similar to what is on usb powered hard drives but even then you will need to use 2 usb 2.0 or 3.0 ports and will provably only get 1a out.

As we know that we can not charge tab 2 via usb when connected to pc.
But there is a way:
do not insert whole usb to port at once.slowly insert the usb(connected to tab) to port(of pc) upto its approx 1/2-3/4 portion.you will see charging symbol on tab battery icon.it may take some time to figure it out.but it works.....
Note:it works on p3100 for sure and may work other models.
ENJOY!do not forget to hit thanx button...
a video demo how to do this should help :cyclops:
it works! thanks for the tips

I wanted to add a clarification: when plugged into USB the notification popup indicates "discharging". But in fact it is charging, because the % charge goes up (slowly) with time.
The trick mentioned in this thread may make the tablet show 'charging', but I doubt that it makes any difference to whether it is really charging or not. The charge rate is determined by the max amps of the charger. The supplied Samsung charger is rated approx 2A; if you use the USB from the iPhone charger it is approx 1A (if you have USB 3.0 ports, that is also about 1A); but USB 2.0 gives you only 0.5A.
As said...charging over USB is painfully slow (2,5-5W). I prefer to charge it with the original adapter (10W )

The tablet or phone will sense if the connection to the charger is AC mode or USB mode, if AC mode is detected then the tab will pull up to ~2.1 depending on the available rate from the charger, if USB mode is detected than the tablet will only draw ~0.5A.
The way the charger is configured will let the device know if it is an AC mode charger or if it is an USB mode charger.
By shorting pins 2 and 3 together on some chargers/cable the device will detect AC mode and it will pull more current.
I have a 1A 12V car charger that was wired for USB, an android device will see it as USB and pull only 0.5A, but an Apple device will pull the rated 1A. I shorted pins 2 and 3 and now android devices pull up to 1A, I am not sure but I think it is no longer compatible with apple devices (I don't own one).
It will say that it's not charging when plugged in via USB, but if you have it plugged in, it will charge, slowly. It takes forever if you're anywhere close to having a dead battery, and if you have wifi and other stuff turned on, it will take even longer but it should work, no tricks needed.
Thanks! Works on the 3113. It's shows charging and doesn't show as media device on the laptop. Nice find.
Hi.
I have a couple of these usb adaptors, see link below, I bought them years ago for the original 7" galaxy tab but i never used them.
If i plug my tab2 into an usb2 port i get the red cross on the battery icon, so i tried one of these adaptor and my tab2 is charging from an usb2.0 port on my notebook and according to battery monitor widget pro at 14% an hour, and i have a lightning bolt sign in the green battery icon.
I did a search for the adaptor i bought and i think i have found it for £6.50 each, see link below.

I am having trouble charging my tablet. When the tablet is on, I am unable to charge with either the POGO or USB cable. I have also tried other wall chargers for cell phones. I was not using any roms, but had tried out the ktmantra kernel. I have since wiped my tablet using a factory 4.2.2 image from google and am still having the charging problem.
The only way I am able to charge is by charging with the tablet off. It also takes ages to charge (12+hours). Any ideas on what could be causing this? When I plug the POGO cable in, it says it is charging, but the battery percentage continues to drop.

I've readed some comment on another forum from an user that has the same proble, but for him it takes about 10h. Not sure what's wrong.
Are you not able to charge at all or just very slowly? I just noticed that my Nexus is charging very slowly with the Pogo cable I purchased. I may try going back to the usb cable to verify that the problem is with the cable and not with the tablet.
I was getting very slow charge rates with my usb charger. Around 12 hour charge times even when completely powered off. Anyway, my problem was with using a USB extension cable. Since I started plugging it directly into the wall I've been seeing charge times in the 5-6 hour range. My iPad never had an issue with it, but whatever! You might also try a different wall outlet.

I cant seem to solve this problem. I have tried using pogo and usb cables with two different chargers. I have also tried using different wall mounted phone chargers. I am not able to get any positive charge while the tablet is on. Using the battery monitor widget, I used to see a +1800 charge with the pogo, and a bit less with the usb cable. Now, the highest I get is -500.
I am only able to charge when the tablet is off, although very slowly. I had it charging all night, and it is now at 60%
When I plug the pogo cable in, the tablet will say it is charging, but it really isnt doing anything.
Any ideas?

The N10 charger is a 2 amp charger and most phone chargers are 1 amp chargers. The N10 will charge slowly with a 1 amp charger if it is powered off, however it needs 2 amps to run the N10 and charge at the same time. Also I have found that not all USB cables are created equal, you may want to try another usb cable. I do not know anything about the pogo chargers. Hope this helps.
