[Q] Question on bypassing initial startup with no sim - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All I have is a blank sim until i activate it, so right now I have no sim, and have been using it on wifi, but had to wipe everything and start fresh, because it was in a bootloop, so now i lost my root, and all my info. Anyways, it starts up, then pulls up the setup motoblur account for like 2 seconds before the "No sim, emergency calls only" screen takes over the phone. It sucks because I need the phone to activate the prepaid sim card.
Is there anything I can do from my phone, or computer? I have RSD lite, and SDK tools installed, but I am just too new to this to be able to figure anything out myself.

You have to put the prepaid sim card in your phone before you can activate it

I thought you could hold the power button and choose flight mode from the lock screen. Maybe on other versions. Try a non blur rom, Nordic f.i., if it doesn't work.

If u try skip motoblur account ?
push menu and Skip.

That doesnt work, it is a blank unactivated sim

No not on the No sim screen, all you get is the power off option
How do I put a different version on with no root?

no it doesnt work, there is no skip option. if i press menu, the add wifi comes on, before
the screen saying no sim comes up

Maybe you have to activate your sim card via internet first? Try to activate it with some other phone or you have to replace it, see question 11 here.

how do I install a deblur rom when my phone is in this state and not rooted? I have to unlock the phone first since this is an at&t sim

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
Section about how to flash.
For the rom. I think this is a good one:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umt...DNFRYORTNORD_P003_A001_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf.gz
It's the nordic retail rom with no blur setup and apps (you won't need them anyway)
Normaly you can access the power menu (with shut-down and flightmode) from the page that says 'no sim card' and in flightmode you don't need a sim. I would be surprised if you can't use the phone without sim.
What's special about the sim? Is the phone locked to another provider?

[Q] [Help] No network in L5 e612f with other sim but the original

Hi,
I came accross this problem that it's driving me nuts. Any help would be much appreciated.
DEVICE
L5 e612f - originally SIM locked to Telcel Mexico - trying to make it work with Spanish SIM and networks.
Rooted
Unlocked bootloader
Installed CWM recovery
Installed CM10.1 - also tried latest CM10 nightly 7/7/2013 and a stock LG Rom -> I experience the same problem
PROBLEM IN SHORT
The phone is SIM locked to Telcel Mexico.
I thought that rooting/unlocking bootloader/using a custom ROM would allow me to use other SIM but I don't know if I'm right.
Anyway, if I try to sim unlock it with a purchased code, I can't because the phone won't prompt me for an unlock code, either by using a non-allowed sim or using the codes for my phone.
Could this be because I'm not longer in Mexico and I'm using the device in Roaming mode?
For more details, please check hidden text.
MORE DETAILS
The phone will only search for and connect to networks if the original sim is inside. With another SIM, the phone won't detect or connect to any carriers.
If I put another SIM it won't give any error... it asks for the normal sim PIN and logs into the system, but no network is available.
The phone won't say the SIM is not allowed or ask me for an unlocking code it with a non original SIM
The codes to SIM unlock doesn't seem to work, I tried:
2945#*612#
2945#*71001#
2945#*610#
but the dialer returns
'USSD Code running'
and finally
''Connection problem or invalid MMI code'
With the original (Telcel Mexico) SIM everything goes OK.
With an Orange SIM from Spain, the phone asks for the normal SIM pin when I turn it on, then logs into the system and it won't connect to any network.
If I go to Settings - Wireless & Network - More - Mobile Networks - Network operators
a message pops in saying - 'Error while searching for networks'
The same message pops in if I tap on 'Search Networks'
If I tap into 'Choose Automatically' the phone says 'Registered on network', but the signal is still 0 and no carrier is selected.
If I tap into 'Choose Automatically' again, the phone returnns 'The sim card doesn't allow a connection to this network' after a minute or so saying 'Automatic Registration'
Extra data
With CM10 Nightly 7/7/2013 the phone has the same issue even with the original SIM inside
With stock Rom, I have the same issue as with CM10.1 (only works with original sim)
So my questions are:
1) Is my phone SIM locked even after unlocking bootloader + custom ROM?
2) If it is SIM locked, why is it allowing me to log with another SIM instead of showing a typical 'sim locked' message
3) If it's SIM locked, could I unlock it with a purchased code in Roaming mode... if so... how?
4) If I revert to an original Telcel firmware would it ask me for the unlocking code?
5) Tried adb fastboot oem unlock but the phone reboots and gets stuck into the fastboot screen - could this be a corrupted bootloader issue?
Many thanks in advance

Ok, I solved the issue so I'm leaving my answer here, in case someone ever has the same problem.
The problem with SIM lock is that CM doesn't work with the sim unlocking codes.
So to SIM unlock you have to revert to any original/stock firmware, unlock the sim, then you can use a custom firmware.
And SIM unlocking works with roaming... meaning that you don't even have to be in the original country/network to unlock.

My Telcel 612F is on original firmware with an orginal sim but when I dial 2945#*612 nothing comes up.
I heard you can flash an unbranded firmware to unlock, but I can't seem to find an unbranded firmware for 612F.
is there a way to unlock this phone?

Hi
I flashed the firmware from this website - http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=12
And it worked like a charm. I used v20A. Also check the code which is 2945#*612# and then the dial button.
Good luck!

There are some many 20A verison. just flash the same company as your own cell?
I have a Telcel so do this one? TCL/TELCEL(MEXICO) 20A LGE612F 356.47 MiB 1577

Hi metriod... that's the one that I've flashed and worked for me. It is branded to Telcel tough, but after sim unlocking you can root and install any mod of your choice.

A question you got the unlock code from the SIM directly with your carrier or with any app in particular?
Thanks in advance
Una pregunta donde obtuviste el codigo de liberacion de la SIM, directo con tu operador o con alguna app en particular?
De antemano gracias, si no esta bien en ingles, es la traduccion de google
Finally it works!!!
This worked for me as well, I spent a whole day triying to fix this issue, aparently THE ONLY WAY THAT THE UNLOCK MENU WILL COME UP is by using the 250 TCL/TELCEL(MEXICO) 20A LGE612F 356.47 MiB firmware.
I wanted also to share some knowledge that I gathered today.
After you flash this firmware, you will not be able to downgrade to any V10XXX.kdz. This includes the one that unlocks the bootloader and enables clockworkmod recovery menu V10D_unlock.kdz. The only way that I´ve found to overcome this was by using a kdz file designed to downgrade, is called V10D_downgrade.kdz that I´ve found over the net. I have a mediafire link but Im not shure if I can post it here.
DO NOT GET SCARED IF YOU CAN NOT GET INTO DOWNLOAD MODE no more (I almost cry), this is also caused by this firmware, instead of pressing vol+ and vol- while connecting to usb, just press vol- and connect the usb cable the use the V10D_downgrade.kdz if you want to downgrade or simply install cyanogen mod.
Regards.

I offer a little more knowledge from what bafler said, for someone that can't downgrade the firmware from 4.1.2 original stock v20 to 4.0.3 stock v10, the trick is to root and install both CWM and Bootloader, then install a CM based rom, wait until its finished and booted up, enter in CWM menu and install a v10 baseband patch to downgrade it, see this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275969. Before that patch and doing some full wipes, you can flash the original stock firmware based on ICS with KDZ, using with the phone off Vol+ and Vol-, and connect the USB cable.
Hope it can save someone, was the only method that works for me. So sorry for my english, im from chile.

HELP! VOLTE/Advanced calling

I have an unlocked version that I converted to verizon by changing the CID and flashing the stock verizon RRU. For some reason I cannot activate advanced calling on the device. VOLTE calls will not work as well. My SIM is from a VZW s7 edge with advanced calling enabled that works fine on it. When i swap the sim to the HTC and go to the advanced calling it wants me to activate then says it is already activated on my account but will not make volte calls.
Anyone have any suggestions? I've reflashed etc. Removed advanced calling etc. If i removed advanced calling from my line, then try to activate it on the HTC it gives me an error and wont activate through the device. I assume because its not in their system.
Can i force on VOLTE? Should I have put the sim in later or something?

I had no luck with the methods above. I even went into the store, the issued me a new sim. I told the guy about the phone and how it was unlocked but It had the official VZW software. He helped me out but we could still not get VOLTE to work on the Unlocked version of the phone. We tried removing it from my account and readding etc. No luck. Looks like I'm just going to return it and maybe buy the VZW version and have Jcase s-off it/bootloader unlock it.

There's probably something wrong with the SIM tray.
in that case can i simple change it?
i forgot to say an important things, when i boot the phone, the phona asks me the pin like usual
Is the phone asking for the sim pin or phone pin? If it's asking for the sim pin, it could be a software problem.
You flashed the latest stock rom using desktop Odin?

If i try to make a call it say "non registrato sulla rete" that means "not registered on the network"
in settings, if i manual select the network, the phone try to connect but after few moments say "this sim cannot connect to the network" or something like that, but the same in another telephone works!
Is the phone asking for a sim pin or network unlock pin? Does the phone show the correct imei? Could the phone be blacklisted?

Debranded Sprint LG G6 - Lost APNs

Hello readers and devs,
TL;DR
Debranded a Sprint LG G6 --> Factory & Hard Reset phone --> SIM card not being read.
-----
Need help getting my phone back on MetroPCS network after a debrand. I will try to be a thorough as I can for SEO robots and to explain as best I can what I did and what I noticed changing.
!!! action --> I debranded (unbranded, sic) my Sprint LG G6 993 phone using the code provided in the forums, hoping for the best.
I noticed the following changed after debranding:
APNs were locked (not able to create new or edit, however the MetroPCS APN was still there)
Sprint logo during boot gone
WiFi Calling option gone (was not working on MetroPCS network anyway)
mobile settings -> network mode -> GSM and Automatic options missing; set to LTE/CDMA
the cellular network connection to MetroPCS was not functioning properly
SIM card error when a phone call was made, no texting either
So, I naturally read through the forums to try to get the phone working properly again on my network. I read the topic Sprint LG G6 (LS993) Dial Codes.
!!! action --> I used the code ##72786# to "Reset provisioning and makes phone reactivate".
After that, I noticed that the MetroPCS APN was removed. APNs still not editable. At this point after reading some more on the forum I decided that I needed to get the phones MSL code, go into the service menu and edit the APNs from there. However, after getting the MSL and going into the service menu area, the APN area would still not allow me to edit the fields.
I went to MetroPCS to see if they could put a new sim card in the phone, hell for all I knew maybe my sim card was bad, remember when I try to make a call I get a SIM card error message. MetroPCS guy tries some things, calls up a service person on the phone, says nothing is wrong with the sim. Tells me to come back in 30 min. I go over to Sprint, give them the phone and tell them what is happening. They say the phone IS unlocked. Then a sales rep tells me that debranding the phone means that it is no longer a Sprint phone and they will not touch the phone. I ask nicely for a tech supervisor. Sprint supervisor says that I should try to Factory Reset the phone. I go home, backup the phone and do a factory reset.
!!! action --> Factory Reset the phone.
Changes:
mobile settings -> network mode -> GSM and Automatic options appear again; set to Automatic
Still unable to add or edit APNs (the APN area options are all greyed out).
!!! action --> I take out the SIM card and put it into my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy On5) thinking well i need a working phone.
I get an error, On5 is not connecting to the network, needs to be activated.
!!! action --> I take out the sim card and put it back into the LG G6.
Changes:
Invalid SIM card error (phone does not detect the sim card)
The SIM card is not being detected by the phone.
I read the forums some more and discovered a post that referenced a LG G6 that was debranded and to get it working again the owner had to buy a Sprint Prepaid activation SIM to re-provision the phone to get it working again on his alternative network.
I downloaded a SIM Card reader and the LG G6 doesnt give me any information on the sim card. If I put the SIM card into my On5 phone and use the SIM Card reader app I can see that my SIM card is okay and all data is displayed properly for the SIM.
I am not really sure what to do, but try to get a Sprint SIM card and put it in to try to reprovision the phone to Sprint and then move it back over to MetroPCS.
Please help what should I do now to get the phone back on MetroPCS?
Thanks,
Trumpet

Debranding?
The boot loader is locked so how can you modify anything on the phone?
First I would kdz back to stock.
That is install the version of software unaltered that should have come with the phone.
I'll leave it up to you to search in the QA section.
Once that is done, confirm the phone is unlocked.
You should need to do nothing more than to drop in the Metro SIM to have it work.
If the phone is not unlocked you will get "invalid SIM" messages.

Firstly, thank you for the read and reply. I was able to debrand the phone utilizing a dial code found in this thread:
sprint-lg-g6-ls993-dial-codes
The thread states:
"##27263# (##BRAND#) - Removes any carrier branding and redetects the carrier based on (NV registry/RUIM/SIM?).
Note: Useful if flashing to Boost Mobile or similar carrier."
After debranding the APN area became un-editable.

I need to confirm that the phone is unlocked. I did have a conversation with Sprint technician that said it came up unlocked in their system. It could be possible (although I don not know for sure) that the phone's hardware/software is locked and yet Sprint cell network has the phone unlocked in their system. Maybe I need to purchase an unlock service for the phone?
Have you tried this thread? https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g6/help/mobile-gsm-data-issues-unlock-t3625705

Turn off enhanced 4g...
Also...
It appears your carrier does not have LTE? If that's true try cycling thru the mobile network toggles in that same menu

Does your carrier support 3g?
Try switching preferred network type.to that... Or 2g... Let's get it to connect first...

Is this an old sim card?
What variant do you have according to the bootloader?
Try removing your sim card... Boot the device... And see if the mobile radio can turn on with no card installed...

sim card out , mobile radio can turn on but you go back and enter to phone info again , it's off

Did this happen after you updated to 9.0 Pie? Because My phone (Sprint model, flashed firmware to unlock) didn't recognize mi SIM after I took the update.
Where did you buy the phone? Are you absolutely it sure it was not a Sprint phone?
Anyways, I had to flash back to an old firmware, flash a couple of modem files, and now my SIM is recognized again.
I did what this gentleman did...

sprint lock shows "invalid sim" if i'm not wrong , mine is unlocked version and i did ask sprint "i will attach their reply"
had issues calling only certain people and as someone metioned i tured off the " enhanced 4G" and it works fine now, my carrier supports it but it seems buggy...maybe need a we need "official carrier" for it tot work right.
im personally on Tmobile and everything works fine now. I guess its called HD or advanced calling that i had to disable. i attached screenshots. hope it helps someone
