Debranded Sprint LG G6 - Lost APNs - LG G6 Questions and Answers
Hello readers and devs,
TL;DR
Debranded a Sprint LG G6 --> Factory & Hard Reset phone --> SIM card not being read.

Need help getting my phone back on MetroPCS network after a debrand. I will try to be a thorough as I can for SEO robots and to explain as best I can what I did and what I noticed changing.
!!! action --> I debranded (unbranded, sic) my Sprint LG G6 993 phone using the code provided in the forums, hoping for the best.
I noticed the following changed after debranding:
APNs were locked (not able to create new or edit, however the MetroPCS APN was still there)
Sprint logo during boot gone
WiFi Calling option gone (was not working on MetroPCS network anyway)
mobile settings -> network mode -> GSM and Automatic options missing; set to LTE/CDMA
the cellular network connection to MetroPCS was not functioning properly
SIM card error when a phone call was made, no texting either
So, I naturally read through the forums to try to get the phone working properly again on my network. I read the topic Sprint LG G6 (LS993) Dial Codes.
!!! action --> I used the code ##72786# to "Reset provisioning and makes phone reactivate".
After that, I noticed that the MetroPCS APN was removed. APNs still not editable. At this point after reading some more on the forum I decided that I needed to get the phones MSL code, go into the service menu and edit the APNs from there. However, after getting the MSL and going into the service menu area, the APN area would still not allow me to edit the fields.
I went to MetroPCS to see if they could put a new sim card in the phone, hell for all I knew maybe my sim card was bad, remember when I try to make a call I get a SIM card error message. MetroPCS guy tries some things, calls up a service person on the phone, says nothing is wrong with the sim. Tells me to come back in 30 min. I go over to Sprint, give them the phone and tell them what is happening. They say the phone IS unlocked. Then a sales rep tells me that debranding the phone means that it is no longer a Sprint phone and they will not touch the phone. I ask nicely for a tech supervisor. Sprint supervisor says that I should try to Factory Reset the phone. I go home, backup the phone and do a factory reset.
!!! action --> Factory Reset the phone.
Changes:
mobile settings -> network mode -> GSM and Automatic options appear again; set to Automatic
Still unable to add or edit APNs (the APN area options are all greyed out).
!!! action --> I take out the SIM card and put it into my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy On5) thinking well i need a working phone.
I get an error, On5 is not connecting to the network, needs to be activated.
!!! action --> I take out the sim card and put it back into the LG G6.
Changes:
Invalid SIM card error (phone does not detect the sim card)
The SIM card is not being detected by the phone.
I read the forums some more and discovered a post that referenced a LG G6 that was debranded and to get it working again the owner had to buy a Sprint Prepaid activation SIM to re-provision the phone to get it working again on his alternative network.
I downloaded a SIM Card reader and the LG G6 doesnt give me any information on the sim card. If I put the SIM card into my On5 phone and use the SIM Card reader app I can see that my SIM card is okay and all data is displayed properly for the SIM.
I am not really sure what to do, but try to get a Sprint SIM card and put it in to try to reprovision the phone to Sprint and then move it back over to MetroPCS.
Please help what should I do now to get the phone back on MetroPCS?

Debranding?
The boot loader is locked so how can you modify anything on the phone?
First I would kdz back to stock.
That is install the version of software unaltered that should have come with the phone.
I'll leave it up to you to search in the QA section.
Once that is done, confirm the phone is unlocked.
You should need to do nothing more than to drop in the Metro SIM to have it work.
If the phone is not unlocked you will get "invalid SIM" messages.

Firstly, thank you for the read and reply. I was able to debrand the phone utilizing a dial code found in this thread:
sprint-lg-g6-ls993-dial-codes
The thread states:
"##27263# (##BRAND#) - Removes any carrier branding and redetects the carrier based on (NV registry/RUIM/SIM?).
Note: Useful if flashing to Boost Mobile or similar carrier."
After debranding the APN area became un-editable.

At this time there is not a Sprint LG G6 KDZ.

I need to confirm that the phone is unlocked. I did have a conversation with Sprint technician that said it came up unlocked in their system. It could be possible (although I don not know for sure) that the phone's hardware/software is locked and yet Sprint cell network has the phone unlocked in their system. Maybe I need to purchase an unlock service for the phone?

I have the same issued. After "debranding" I can't add a new APN. In my case I do have voice and SMS, but no DATA since I can't add an APN.. Were you able to fix your phone. Please share the solution if you did. Thanks

Im also having the sam issue
The only way to fix this is to insert an active sprint sim card with service and dial ##72786# to re-activate
Since i switched to metro pcs ......my sim service is not active
I gotta find someone

i have the same problem but i select de uicc unlock and works my mexico sim but just only voice calls and text. apn still greyed out and says otasn on apn settings grayed out too. any solution for this ?
Try this:
Dial 5689#*993# ; go to NAOT + NAO Test + NAO CARRIER (Select NONE).
After that you will be able to edit/add APNs

[Q] Unlocked, MMS#3 on AT&T help
I have a galaxy S5 on AT&T that I'm trying to use a straight talk sim in. (Att towers) whenever a sim is inserted into the phone I get "Sim not allowed mm#3". I used a reputable service (cell unlocker) to unlock the device. The IMEI comes up clean as well. I've also changed the APN settings, but it won't connect. I'm trying to port from a galaxy s3.
I would also like to quickly add that the t mobile straight talk sim works just fine, but using that is not an option as the service is atrocious. Another thing, the ATT sim works in a galaxy S4 with no issues. They are both sims for straight talk. Any help is really appreciated, this is baffling me.
Just went into the service menu with *#0011# and in the debug menu i can't actually see a MM reject cause. CARD_ERROR: Unknown and PERSO_FEATURE: UNSUPPORTED are the only relevent info i see here. The phone has been unlocked, is there a way to flash the service menu with ODIN and reset it all to stock? I know this won't lose the unlock, so in the off chance that I did accidentally click on something in there before will the tar.md5 file fix this? I read a post where user sanquante said he had to flash the PDA.MD5 file and it fixed it...I'm assuming he meant the tar.md5? Thanks for ANYONE willing to help. I really could use it.

S8 unlocked but no service
I bought used S8 that had clean IMEI (not blacklisted), it was locked on Sprint and with financial eliglibity. Before I got it unlocked it didn't recognised any sim card, after unlocking it did regular setup on my ATT card with all the ATT apps but it doesn't have service. Then I tried with Verizon SIM and it did the same, regular setup but no service. What do you think what's the problem ? Phone build number : R16NW.G950USQS3CRE2
Is it rooted, and if it is, have you uninstalled any system packages If not, try a factory reset and making sure the sim is active and APN settings are working and you have chose a network

Click to collapse It's not rooted, I did remote unlock with unlocking service and they flashed original firmware on it, nothing should be messed up. I did factory reset few times as well as network reset. I double checked APN info and ofc it's setted up together with card. I forgot to mention that phone is not showing up IMEI, actually nothing when I type *#06# in dial
that mean you lost imei ....flash factory firmware by yourself...it will do the trick

I'm using ATT and my phone was locked on Sprint, so I flashed Sprint firmware and It's the same. I put the SIM card in, it did ATT setup and all of the apps from carrier but it's still block sign instead of signal sign in top right corner and airplane mode is light blue (not usual blue like when you turn it on) At least this time it's showing up imei in dialer I couldn't find ATT firmware, if someone knows there's my build number in first post.

My ph is lg v20 ls997!! I dont know its ver, bootloader, lock or unlock i only know android 7.. and i use gsm network (not sprint)(before use when power on its show hand free activation) ?? Yesterday i update to oreo from ota update!! After Update successful all are smooth but simcard show invalid sim and i cant do anything!! Can u guys solve pls bro!! Sry for my nub english ?

Well, you are kinda boned. There is no LS997 KDZ so you can't downgrade, and you can't use the VS995 KDZ since you are ARB 1. Lesson learned, don't ever take an OTA update -- period -- rooted or not unless you are not rooted, AND you are using a carrier branded phone ON the carrier it was intended for. -- Brian

I have the same issue. Downloaded the update and now invalid sim. Can't use phone txt or internet etc. Nothing mobile. Is there any fix for this? Who's fault is this? If my phone is now destroyed, can I get somebody to replace it? LG? Android? Phone was sprint. Used with cricket for around a year until this need the other day. Neither carrier knows how to fix. I didn't update it while it had the sim inside, and I factory reset after Oreo update. Try toggling network mode in settings to LTE/GSM/WCDMA and between CDMA/LTE + EvDO, but keep it on LTE/GSM/WCDMA. If you didn't properly unlock it, this may be the reason. If you can also see the CDMA Subscription option, set it to RUIM/SIM from NV. You could try DFS CDMA Tool 14 to change this if you can access DIAG mode from the hidden menu. I'm thinking the Sprint-TMobile merger (will be T-Mobile) will result in horrible OTA unlocking methods like they do currently instead of SIMCK, NCK, NSCK, or SIMCK. They'll likely rebrand the LS997 to T-Mobile and introduce their OTA unlock. For now, try this: Go into the phone dialer and type: 5689#*997# Go to Field test > Modem Settings >RAT Selection > SELECT: GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto If it doesn't work, select LTE/WCDMA, then toggle back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto If it still doesn't work, remove the sim and try these steps above without the SIM, then retry. Don't forget to update your APN settings for your carrier.

Go to the Sprint store (a legit Sprint owned one) and either get a compatible sim or have them fight extra hard to activate the sim you currently have...and idk if your still with Sprint or not... ---------- Post added at 06:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:10 PM ---------- Also if you have the receipt you can try and get the sim unlock code from Sprint but since your not in a contract idk if they will give it to you...
Sprint does not have unlock codes. All you have to do is chat with their international division and they'll uicc unlock it for you. This is important. Ask them to lock it from their end then ask them to unlock it. If your Sprint phone is paid off and clear then they will unlock it for free to use it on TMO or at&t

Verizon s10+ can't edit APN
Trying to use straight talk in Verizon s10+. Adding apn is grayed out. Any help is greatly appreciated.
In order to unlock the APN menu on a Verizon phone running Oreo, I had to insert a friend's T-Mobile SIM card and it let me change the settings. The new settings stuck after removing the SIM and reinserting the Verizon MVNO SIM card. Otherwise, it would not work.

Click to collapse it works just fine on combo and even stock vzw afterwards if you enable keystr and hiddenmenu on efs partition while on combo
to add, if u kno how and have the files i recommend not changing the mps and omcnw codes as they will stick when going back to stock and u might need to start over lol the attached screens are from a vzw g975u
How to flash J7 SM-J737U To T-Mobile? Or one that does not have a sim card check on
Sorry if this is posted somewhere, but I could not locate it. I bought a consumer cellular SM-J737U, which runs on att and tmobile towers. When I inserted the t-mobile sim, it prompted me to reboot for network change. I did, and I have full LTE for a few seconds then I got an error message saying this is an invalid sim, contact consumer cellular for help. So I know the sim works because I had full connectivity on there. What do I need to flash to goto stock J7 stuff so I can use my tmobile sim? I tried another sim and the same thing happened.
