Ummm
Well the unethical way of update release by Samsung made us all confused.. If they would have released it like their prior updates all regions or more than one region then we might have upgraded our devices. But currently their is only one xxlpy Germany experimental release so I am not at all interested.
If you don't have a particular need to upgrade to ICS, then you should probably wait until it gets released locally, or you decide you have a need.
I personally won't be going back to GB, because I like the better external keyboard support (it recognises the CTRL and ALT keys) and also the USB midi support, both of which don't work in GB.
The UI tweaks and snappier response are good, but they're not going to let you don anything you can't do already.
If there's an app you want to use that is ICS only, then that might be a reason to upgrade too.
LPF (which I have found to be a lot better than LPY, in terms of UI speed and battery performance) is a wipe ROM though, so you need to spend a bit of time restoring everything.
If you wait for the OTA release, it might will hopefully not be a wipe ROM, which might make life easier for you.
HTH,
Rich
Hello,
Personally I've been on ICS for almost a month now and I love it, first midnote than Crisckelo (V2 and V3) but now I love the Kingdroid ROM the battery doesn't die and it looks even better with Apex launcher!!
I could not go back to gingerbread!! I haven't tried the stock ICS (LPY or LPF) but with their bloatware the battery would not suit me !!
I can confirm it reads arabic.perfectly. dunno abt japanese.....the rom is so far very stable nd better looking....pinkish display issue solved 90%.......sd card readng bug sometimes solved by unmountng then mountng.
Thanx guys for responding it means alot for me,,,,,

I personally have gone back to GB (rocket ROM) which in terms of battery and responsiveness is better than any ICS ROM I tried. Also there are apps that don't run well on ICS. I guess in a few months time when all official ICS ota's had been released and the developers have had time to tweak them then ICS will be better.

Say no to ICS for now
DOnt go to ICS as yet...wait for the eMMC thingi to be resolved first man!
After testing ics on gb again and really happy. And for sure that i want go back to ics a long time.

FYI since I never saw that mentioned (especially NOT in Samsung ads, for both the S2 and the Note...)
GB = ONE core used, linux 2.6 non-SMP
ICS = ALL cores used, linux 3.0 SMP, but it enables the superbrick defect bug

We have to look at nexus s first
Officially? Maybe.
CM7 Version? Most definitely.
For now you guys might want to try the ICS Launcher. It's currently taken down from the Market, but if you Google it you can still download it from their website for free...

Beware the ICS launcher - the one I downloaded requested permission to dial out, so I didn't take any risk and deleted it immediately.

Think so. have nothing official to base this statement on but I really think so. i'm not seeing google leaving nexus s on 2.3 without an update to ICS, even with a new phone coming up, and galaxy s has just about the same hardware.

I read somewhere that any device capable of running gingerbread would be updated to ICS
I don't see any reason they won't provide an update to ICS... after all this phone was produced merely about a year ago, and is still one of the best (despite the fact that Samsung completely messed up with the RFS file system...) .
Ive also heard that any device capable of running GB will be able to run ICS, however the only thing that may hold the phone back is the limited ram :/
I do however hope we get ICS!!!

Maybe here ?
"At Google I/O I asked the Android team if Ice Cream Sandwich had any special hardware requirements that would prevent it from running on existing smartphones. They didn’t name specific handsets, but we were told that most phones which could run Android 2.3 would be able to handle the update. That doesn’t guarantee anything for current Android smartphone owners, but we expect Google’s own Nexus One and Nexus S will be some of the first devices upgraded to Android 4.0."
source: androidandme.com
This is interesting too:
"If you are a fan of custom ROMs, then you will be happy to know that Google plans to release Ice Cream Sandwich to the Android Open Source Project. Google typically releases the source code to each version of Android a few months after it debuts on a new device, but they chose not to do this with Honeycomb. Andy Rubin said Google wanted to prevent developers from putting the software on phones “and creating a really bad user experience. We have no idea if it will even work on phones.”
Ice Cream Sandwich will be available for the development community to hack to their hearts’ content and I’m sure we will see CyanogenMod 8 a month after the source code is public."
...............And maybe that Samsung could surprise us with a ICS firmware for i9000...
I think our SGS will get ICS officialy, btw I don't think it will bring any major improvement (as happened with gingerbread).
However it would be better to be updated because some new apps probably will only work on ICS.

Heh, true that. I guess most people are just using stock roms, maybe with a custom kernel. This phone works fine the way it is actually, there are just some little flaws that can be fixed with a couple of hacks, and some colours which are a bit out place, but we have some nice themes after all.
Aosp roms are blazing fast tho, really unrivaled in terms of smoothness if you wanna play games...the problem with those is that they aren't 100% bug free as the ones i was using on my Desire, so i find it hard to use them as a daily driver for more than a few days every now and then on this particular phone.

I prefer Samsung custom roms because they are so freakin smooth. Excellent stock browser, I love TouchWiz and the launcher, superb camera interface, and an awesome video player app.
Hyperdroid all the way-official ROM of the 2012 Olympics.
You guys wants me to add more poll items for Custom Stock ROM ?
I'm trying out omega and liking it so far,
Reason why the large distribution is because really, the phone works as is pretty well. It just needs a few tweaks to get rid of that garbage late night battery full alert and a couple other things. Since most people are looking for stock + tweaks, there's a lot of different tweaks available.

I agree with this, but the amount of resources and testing at google's disposal far outweighs that of your average rom builder.
Not only that, but I'm positive that Google has specification and performance information on the phone's hardware that the average ROM developer will simply never have. I agree, custom ROMs are fun to play with, but for everyday use, you'll never beat a stock ROM.

I'm on kang 15 and steve.garons latest kernel. You and I have very different opinions of stable. Mine is top notch. No hiccups. If u want to wait, by all means, I was...then broke down and the current roms are fantastic.
It takes less than 5mins to root, make a backup, copy that backup yo PC, then unlock boot loader and flash a new rom. If u don't like it, there always that backup you can restore. Too easy to sit around and complain when there are alternatives
I'm always finding things that don't work on custom kernels and it drives me insane!! I'll try to show someone something cool, and it takes me 15 minutes just to get it working, then I just look stupid because the rom I have isn't compatible with ___, or it's missing ___ (fill in the blank)
Yeah, they are fun to play with, and it's nice to have the cool mods & tweaks that come with them, but when you want your phone to "just work" then there's nothing better than a nice stable official rom that does everything you throw at it. speed & extra performance is great, but stability and compatibility outweigh those every single time, imho

You do not need the ROM released in your regions to install. Most of them are fine, unless you want languages specific to your region.

Well....it's a matter of choice really!
I used to use cm9 because cm10 has a memory bug that requires you to reboot the phone once in a while...
I switched back to stock though...
For me it's better than cm because my music sounds better on stock, the camera is much better and also it has great deals in samsung apps!
For example you can get Modern Combat 3,Asphalt 7,Shadowgun and Virtua tennis all for free!
Try using foxhound ics ron which has reached a final stage and is perfect!
I use that combined with siyah kernel and i am a very veryyy happy man!
Try it and you'll remember me...
I wouldn't recommend using jellybean leaks because they are buggy....never the less the official update will come very soon,i think you should wait a liltle bit!

Ill keep it in mind about the ICS one. Also Ive seen reports about the CM10 being ASOP. And that its smooth as butter without a memory problem. However if you are saying stock is nice. Idk, hard to say lol. Well wait, no I may not stay with stock. Anyone know if stock has cifs.ko support in its kernel? That to me is a vital part of any rom I get.. and with a device with HDMI output.. yea, network files for videos is good. (And not just DLNA)
Yea if I used my G1 for 4 years (Along with others in my sig for playing around with) then I can only imagine how well this device will serve me. Also I should be able to use Splashtop 2 or Splashtop HD shouldnt I since this has a high resolution?
Edit: Wait so this isnt the right forum for T-Mobiles S3? (Curse you google xda search for forum section)
Search the original android development for cifs.ko mate...
Now if you want hdmi like me stay away from aosp...
It's not supported and most likely never will be...
