Will N1 receive official update to Ice Cream Sandwich?

I doubt anyone has any actual information on this, but I'm still curious whether you believe the N1 will get an official update to Ice Cream Sandwich, or is it going to die with android 2.3.x?

all signs point to icecream sandwich dropping the hardware buttons like honeycomb, so it seems weird that ANY phones will get icecream sandwich
or if they do, youll have this useless row of buttons there? i dont know

I bet there will be a different version with no software keys for existing android devices.

Google said that Ice cream sandwich will be to integrate all the android devices into a single OS platform. They said that it'll not have any minimum hardware requirements and will work with all android devices. So lets hope all the phone get an update!

If the nexus s gets ics then the nexus one should too, they are practically the same. I think we will get ics

No one can say for sure as Google hasn't said either way.
But, the Nexus One IS still the official Google developer phone, so if I had to make a guess at this point, I would say yes.... unless they plan on launching a new Nexus device with Ice Cream, kind of like they did with Gingerbread... but I think we'll still get it, just have to wait a bit as with GB.
At least I hope. I love my N1 and I still have yet to fine a phone worthy of replacing the Nexus One.

I'm not very sure it will get it. As of GRJ22 there are 17 MB available on the system partition. And there are a lot of APIs to catch up to (honeycomb+ICS)

Not really sure on if it will get official ice cream either, well officially. It will definitely get here through a custom mod.

I hope we get Ice Cream too

They ARE, NOT THE SAME! NOT EVEN CLOSE! yes they both have 1ghz processors and they are nexus phones but that's all they share one is made by htc with a snapdragon processor the other is made by samsung and has a.hummingbird processor. (i should know I have both) even with the same ROM and settings they feel very different... imo...

Everyone except you apparently. They're not even remotely close to the same aside from the fact they're both phones and they both run Android.
They are completely different hardware from completely different manufacturers.

They have similar specs so if the nexus s can run ICS then so can the nexus one is what I meant. I wasn't talking about Samsung or HTC or hummingbird and snapdragon.

If you read MY post I said that it would probably get it. However the crack about the phones being the same was, is and ALWAYS WILL BE WRONG

regardless official or not, i am happy as long as i get to experience the functionality of the new versions.

i'm just hoping our great dev is doing something to port it to our nexus one.

I don't know if HTC will officially support Ice Cream for our Evo's. I just remember the issues that the devs ran into prior to the official release of GB. I hope I'm wrong because it would be great to have. I also wonder if our hardware even meets the system requirements.

ICS is designed to help end fragmentation. It should run fine on the hardware. I doubt htc will support it tho.

If this (http://androidandme.com/2011/08/news/13-things-we-might-see-with-the-release-of-android-4-0-in-q4/) is correct, any phone running 2.3 should be able to handle ICS.

Evo 4g is close to its end of life the only way we could get this is thru roms

It's interesting at least that we may start getting hints as to what lies ahead for both Android phones and tablets. I'm sure the CM folks will end up porting, so we'll likely see it on the EVO 4G at some point.
Looks like it's mostly UI changes though. Wish they'd posted a screenie of the Gmail app changes; I love the app but the look of it is plain and ugly.

I honestly doubt the Evo will get ICS, we barely got GB, and its not like that OTA was welcomed with open arms.

Very very true. But I'm sure some talented devs would love the challenge of whipping up a Rom for the evo. But only time will tell

No doubt the Devs will come through for us, but im not so sure about Sprint and HTC.

Thank god the evo still has lithid developing....otherwise most of the development would come to a screeching halt.

HTC probably won't officially support it, but I don't doubt that other developers could get it running with the sources available. Also, hope there's some hw acceleration. But no kernel version 3 yet?

Considering people have gotten 2.3 running on the G1, I think it's entirely feasible that the EVO could run ICS.
It may not be without it's problems, but I'm sure after some refining it could be perfectly usable.

Call me idiotic, noobie, or what have you; But happened with Honeycomb? Is that only for tablets?

Source was never released (if I remember correctly). So that's why we never saw any roms.

Honeycomb was designed for tablets and plus the source was never released to prevent more fragmentation. Icecream is supposed to bridge the gap between gingerbread and honeycomb.

Looks like it will be coming out around the holidays for the Samsung phones

The Nexus S supports ICS so our Vibrants should run it just fine. A Nexus S is basically the same hardware as a Galaxy S with NFC support. Unfortunately I don't think we'll be getting any official ICS from Samsung. We have yet to even see Gingerbread, although Tmobile also has a say in it. I've already decided to either get the Samsung Hercules or Nexus Prime to replace my age old Vibrant. I'm leaning towards the Nexus Prime simply for first-served updates directly from Google.

Looking at the leak that could have just been edited GB, I mean any of the devs here could have made that.

lol that sucks but this phone is not too bad compared to new phones ive had mine for a while but im still satisfied with it, ive had honeycomb run on my vibrant, not fully functioning but it runs so why not ice cream

We dont even have (official) GB fully functioning, so I wont think about any further for vibrant

I could really care less about Ice Cream Sandwhich for the Vibrant. Update is released in December, we wait at least 6 or so months for CM8 to be stable, the new update may pose new problems upon the existing ones, and by then the phone is 2 years old already. Touchwiz already offers GPU-acceleration in its launcher and browser, and for the most part, the current Honeycomb GPU acceleration is still lacking compared to that of iOS or WP7 (app drawer, screen rotation, and homescreen animation still lags a little). Not really expecting much of ICS.

No uhh not really its suppose to make android one cross all platforms so transition to new version should be much better than it was for CM7 an there still gonna update international galaxy s we will see ICS soon cuz u can port over since its so similar an Google yet to fail me except for Gingerbread

actually its pretty much fully functioning ever since they got gps somewhat fixed last month now its really good compared to build 1 when i used that

For me gps works when it wants not when i want, its not what i called fully fixed. I always get back to froyo after using cm7 for a week.

Yes, it is going to make Android the same across all Nexus branded platforms. Touchwiz, Sense, and Blur are not going anywhere and the manufacturers still have to modify ICS for each individual device. The Galaxy S is done for official support, period. Samsung is not making any more money from the original Galaxy S compared to the SII; most owners of the original have or will already have switched devices so Samsung has no true need to update the international version. Google's 18 month update suggestion was what it was, a suggestion, and by the time December comes, the Galaxy S is about 18 months old anyways.

I tried multiple builds and just couldn't get reasonable battery life. I got tired of charging through usb at work. With my usage and location I get about 24 hours on undervolt 2.2 builds.

Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich coming for......

More ICS News are coming from Samsung mobile, the Latest rumor informed that Samsung Will Upgrade all Gt-I9XXX series to the Android 4.0 Ice cream Sandwhich in the Upcmoing period Which Includes Samsung Galaxy S, Nexus S and Galaxy SII, Google also announce that all android smartphone which already got official 2.3.3 update will also work with ICS like any other Update. But we Still waiting to get an official announcement from Samsung. Mostly, Samsung Galaxy S will get the same ICS version of the Galaxy Nexus which is 4.0.1 but I am not sure about the touchwiz UI of samsung

Somator, why do u take every thing so negatively. Its a glimmer of hope for sgs isn't that good.
Also Matias duarte said that most gingerbread devices will be able to handle ics but here the site is saying that Google believes that all 2.3.3 devices can handle ics properly.
But isn't that opposing their own announcement that nexus one wont get ics. Its either the news is fake or Google are not sure themselves or are rethinking on nexus one.

guys i wanna ur recommendations about new ics ice cream sandwich... is it worthy to update? Last week i was very close to installed on my gonte but i told myself i should Ask u guys before do it. And i have some questions i didn't find any answers ....my questions are... can i read arabic and Japanese languages on it. Or i should waiting for arabic ics ? and i'm suffering from pinkish and greenish on white background is it still in ice cream sandwich too or isn't existing any more....

Ummm
Well the unethical way of update release by Samsung made us all confused.. If they would have released it like their prior updates all regions or more than one region then we might have upgraded our devices. But currently their is only one xxlpy Germany experimental release so I am not at all interested.

If you don't have a particular need to upgrade to ICS, then you should probably wait until it gets released locally, or you decide you have a need.
I personally won't be going back to GB, because I like the better external keyboard support (it recognises the CTRL and ALT keys) and also the USB midi support, both of which don't work in GB.
The UI tweaks and snappier response are good, but they're not going to let you don anything you can't do already.
If there's an app you want to use that is ICS only, then that might be a reason to upgrade too.
LPF (which I have found to be a lot better than LPY, in terms of UI speed and battery performance) is a wipe ROM though, so you need to spend a bit of time restoring everything.
If you wait for the OTA release, it might will hopefully not be a wipe ROM, which might make life easier for you.

Personally I've been on ICS for almost a month now and I love it, first midnote than Crisckelo (V2 and V3) but now I love the Kingdroid ROM the battery doesn't die and it looks even better with Apex launcher!!
I could not go back to gingerbread!! I haven't tried the stock ICS (LPY or LPF) but with their bloatware the battery would not suit me !!

I can confirm it reads arabic.perfectly. dunno abt japanese.....the rom is so far very stable nd better looking....pinkish display issue solved 90%.......sd card readng bug sometimes solved by unmountng then mountng.

I personally have gone back to GB (rocket ROM) which in terms of battery and responsiveness is better than any ICS ROM I tried. Also there are apps that don't run well on ICS. I guess in a few months time when all official ICS ota's had been released and the developers have had time to tweak them then ICS will be better.

FYI since I never saw that mentioned (especially NOT in Samsung ads, for both the S2 and the Note...)
GB = ONE core used, linux 2.6 non-SMP
ICS = ALL cores used, linux 3.0 SMP, but it enables the superbrick defect bug
