[Q] Experiences with GNote coming from GNexus? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hi Guys, I just bought a Galaxy Note (yay!)...I should have it by Friday. The reason for getting the Note was that my Galaxy Nexus presented signal drops and I had to keep it stock if I wanted solid signal, and well with the Nexus what's the point on having it stock?
Now I absolutely LOVE the Galaxy Nexus, it's the best phone I've had by far...and to tell you the truth I am a little sad to let it go, I love the fact that you can do almost whatever you want with it, it's easy to root, and to mod. I've read that there are some troubles flashing custom ROMs on the Note, but I'm pretty sure that I'll figure it out once I have the Note in my hand, or hands really.
So I wanted to know about experiences of you guys that made the switch from the Galaxy Nexus to the Galaxy Note, are you happy with it? do you miss stock ICS? How do you like Touchwiz?
Thanks!

i have both. i found samsung's gingerbread/touchwiz overlay intolerable so i barely used it for the firsy couple of months. was using the Gnex heavily. i couldn't bring myself to sell the Note becase of the magnificent screen, battery and camera - it had potential beyond each and every phone in the market combined.
Then along came CM9 for the Note and now i can't put it down. It's now has the best of everything - screen, battery life camera - and nothing in the market can come close to offering what it does. the overall experience with the screen really is on another level entirely.
The Gnex is going to be sold soon. The phone was good but the battery was an absoute joke. The Note (now with CM9) betters it in every possible way.

Omersak, can i ask you which Cyanogen ROM you are using, i can find a few in the development section.
And what is the + over an APK ROM ?
@TS
I have my note a few days now, i was doubting between nexus and note, the nexus looks amazing, but it has older and slower hardware.
The Note have great hardware, great screen, and the size is just perfect.
I rooted the Note the second day (reading the forums here all day does strange things with a man )

Um do you mean AOKP?
It stands for Android Open Kang Project
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/21583-what-is-aokp-and-features-list/
I can't explain it myself but found that link.

LOL.... I was going to say I rooted mine on Day 1 within the first few minutes, but after reading your post I'll keep my mouth shut...
Re the OT's question:
I was using the Nexus 1 for almost 2 years, and jumped on the G Nexus first moment it came out. Loved it! Reading my Kindle books was now such an enjoyable experience with the 4.65" screen. Then I started becoming greedy. Why not an EVEN BIGGER screen?
After only about a week, I made up my mind to move to the Note (after many many pocketability tests in the store), and I've been in seventh heaven ever since. What I love about the Note:
- bigger screen (doh...)
- Removable SD!! This was a biggie - having a 32Gb SD card in addition to the 16Gb on board is FREEDOM! Very good for storing all those huge Nandroid backups!!!
- better battery life
- faster (sure, many ppl are skeptical about benchmarks, but 4700+ on Quadrant?!! )
I missed ICS initially, but Gingerbread (with CheckROM and Franco kernel) has been working tremendously well for me, and better (smoother and better battery) than all the ICS ROMs I had tried, including the stock rom that just came out.
Rocket ICS looks promising though, so just waiting for v2 before giving it another go.
Enjoy your Note - you'll never look back, for sure!

Any previous nexus owners?

Anyone have both or been on both and care to share experiences?
Thanks

My mum has a nexus and I've had a chance to play around with it quite a lot. It's a fantastic phone. Ics is buttery smooth and visually appealing in its aosp form. I've always been a fan of the stock android os. But at the end of the day, as great as The nexus is, it's just a phone.
The note is something unique and special. There's nothing else like it. The screen size is perfect. Once you go to a screen this size, you'll never go back. The only minor letdown for me is the touchwiz interface, but let's be honest, its easily changed. Its also the best manufacturer overlay in my opinion. HTC sense and the LG and Sony offerings are dire. Touchwiz is useable and attractive at least.
The nexus is a great phone, but the note is the one for me. It has drastically cut down on my laptop time. I use it for everything. Its also comfortable as an ereader.

At some point I had both the Nexus and the Note, but I didn't want two devices so I had to decide which one to sell.
I ended up keeping the Note. I loved the Nexus, don't get me wrong, but overall the Note had it's advantages.
The nexus is slick looking and easy to carry, ICS flies on the thing- no lags. A lot have whined about the camera, but personally I found it acceptable.
It wasn't easy to choose but after considering that the Note will also have ICS, I chose the Note.
I had the Nexus One (thought I know you're not referring to that one), then upgraded to the G Nexus as soon as it was available. I had considered the Note then, but chose the G Nexus because:
- Developer support and Google support for G Nexus
- I thought the Note was too big
- G Nexus had ICS
- G Nexus didn't have SAMSUNG logo on the front and it looked so cool being all black, and not the mention the sexy curve (hence my name for it was "Sexy Nexy").
So, after getting the G Nexus, I loved it! THe screen was so beautiful - my first experience of a super amoled screen, and I was blown away by how black the black was. And the size - super for reading.
I became addicted to big screens.
Then I started thinking... wouldn't it be EVEN BETTER with an even bigger screen, like the 5.3" on the Note?? I couldn't stop thinking about it. Eventually, I gave in, and sold the G Nexus and bought the Note. These were the reasons:
- Addicted to big screens, and was convinced the Note was not going to be too big (I was sooo right )
- Camera on Note is quite a bit better, IMO. I don't need 'zero shutter lag' that the G Nexus has, esp if it compromises on quality.
- I was already feeling the pinch on storage space on the Nexus, esp with all the Nandroid backups which were as big as 1Gb each! I just bought a 32Gb micro sd card for my Note, and I feel so much freer now!
- Some apps didn't work on ICS. Also I figured that GB wasn't that bad. Heck, I had lived with it and loved it on my N1 for how long? In any case, ICS should be here pretty darn soon, and by that hopefully all the apps I use will support it.
- I actually like having the row of fixed capacitative buttons and hard button on the Note. It is positioned right at the bottom of the phone, so actually, if you compare with the Nexus, it doens't take up any additional space (cos in the Nexus, there's just blank wasted space there). The great thing about having the buttons there is that your 'real' screen does not need to get wasted with the software buttons when ICS comes along - ie., you're getting even more screen real estate than you think!
- Better hardware on the NOte - processor and GPU. I also read and watched youtube reviews that seemed to indicate that the Note was quite a lot faster, and that the battery life is much better. (I can confirm both to be very true! - and see the youtube vid of someone with alpha CM9 on the Note, commenting that ICS feels even faster on the Note than on his Nexus!)
- I still think the Nexus is better-looking, but how far is looks going to get you? Also, I can live with the Samsung logo on the screen
- As for developer support, it was becoming clear to me that the Note was becoming very popular, and was getting a lot of developer support too. So far, it's definitely looking very true.
- Lastly, again - the screen size is so fantastic! I no longer use my tablet (ipad), even when I have both at my disposal. It's just so much easier to use the Note esp when lying down on the couch and reading from it.
If the above helps you, please press the 'THANK' button, thanks!!
I got a Note yesterday. I agree with all of the above. Nexus will be being sold very shortly. All other screens now look too small. Also, the signal seems better on the Note.
So far, only 2 things I don't like on the Note: (1) Gingerbread, but that will be upgraded soon and (2) Touchwiz, but when modded ICS ROMs come out, I'll start using them instead. Oh, and I'm not sure how I'm going to jog with my Note - it won;t fit in the pockets on my skins!
I have Ics on my a500 and love it and know its only a matter of time before the note has it so n biggie there. I also owned q streak when they were out so i lived the 5" screen ans have been craving it ever since . My infuse is nice but i want a unique phone like the note again.
Thanks for sharing guys, good stuff

I had a Galaxy S1 and allways said that my next phone will be a Nexus phone.. >PERIOD<
There I go, 2 weeks ago got all excited and went to the electronic store to buy me the GNexus.. Yeah!
Wallked to the phone section and there it was, the awsome nexus, just waiting on me.. i picked it up. .. Had it in my hand, played with it and then i looked to the left.. Right next to the GNexus was the GNote.. I though.. Hmmmmmmmmmm. ..
After a few sec. Thinking and comparing both on the fly, I decided to go for the note, it fits excacly my needs and so far i dont regret it..
Sammy got me again... Dammn.. ;-) before i got the sgs i actually wanted the N900..
So get what you like, its just for the time being and only a phone..

I had both, kept the Note. Both are good phones. Video & battery life is better on the Note and the lack of expandable storage really on the Nexus tipped it.

I was in your exact situation 8 months ago ,I went for the note :
note over s2:
*much better battery life (almost double the battery life)
*Spen which is nice even if you don't use it for creativity
*ICS and jellybean updates added much more value and features than those of the S2
*screen resolution really makes for great reading experience
S2 over the note:
*Size ,the s2 is just much easier to manage and hold
*screen quality ,the resolution of the note maybe superior ,but the colors of the s2 are just much much better.
* performance: The S2 has an amazing edge in speed and free memory when compared to the note ,the note improved much with jellybean and is almost on par with the S2's performance on ICS now.
I sometimes miss my S2 ,especially the amazing screen and sometimes the speed ,but overall the Note is a more capable device features wise (especially with the jellybean update).
it's really down to what you need and personal preference ,I love my note ,but will likely buy something smaller next time I'm in for an upgrade.

You can still upgrade that Note officially to 4.0.3 or 4.0.4..or you can also flash the latest JB roms after rooting..If i was in ur situation, I will go with Note. Reasons:
1) Big screen
2) Powerful Battery
3) S pen
4) More powerful than S2

if you are to buy it then the first thing to do is update it to either the latest 4.04 or the leaked jellybean, otherwise you will be disappointed with how it performs .
beware of the brick bug though ,always flash from a safe kernel.
Note. More hardware, the screen is much more...screen, s-pen (for me it's useless, but it's a pro for some ones), fits in all my pockets. I love it.

How the hell is it the note more powerful than the S2. It has the same SoC and amount of RAM and it should be slower actually because of the higher resolution.
The Note has a higher cpu frequency so those tasks should perform a lot better. The gpu one could argue about...

NOTE1
Note1 ofcourse, now we are expecting Multi Window which is a feature of Note2 and yet Note1 is running very good on JB even thou there are some bugs.... NOTE1 is totally different from S2, but its your choice. Ilove using Snote App and ofcourse screen resolution is outstanding.. PS: Note is smooth and Creamy like peanut butter on JB (Touchwiz) and CM. . .
note1. i barely use now my s2. s2 has cam issues specifically macro. note1 doesnt have this. although s2 feels faster than note1.
Yesterday I traveled by public transport, I took a place next to a pretty girl, she proudly pulled out her white galaxy s2. I let her enjoy in shes device. After a few moments I start touching my tight jeans and prepare to do something that will make her life different.
She began to pay attention on that special part of my clothing item, like expecting some nasty thing that will happen. After a few seconds I was ready. I pulled out my shiny white Note N7000 out of pocket. In that moment I saw the excitement in her eyes, looked at her and I said, "Do you want to touch it?" She said: "Yes." She fell in love.
She tried every custom settings in it, I showed her my bootanimation, ripple lock screen, 15 toogles, google now, jb leek keyboard with voice recognition, particularly wanted to see the the results of Quadrant benchmark, the new touch cwm6 recovery .... etc.. Alliance Rom Final executed all her demands. Once we reached the destination, she did not understand how the battery is still going on, and she wanted more.
We went to my place, opened a bottle of wine, lay down next to the fireplace, after couple of moments of playing I pull up the S-Pen ... She grabbed that and enjoyed it much better ... The rest is not for each ... Tomorrow morning when i woke up, CPUSpy showed deep sleep over the night for about 7-8 hours, and was ready for more...
HD display on note1, there is no more argue...
Get NOTE...
I have used many devices till date. ONE X etc...
NOTE feels solid in hand. So big and neat and clean.. Am loving it..
Wish it had a dual sim, so tat i can throw away my BB 9900 and use my note for all purpose..
Am loving it. Planning to get NOTE 2...
S-Pen does wonders, If you feel lonely, just take out the S-Pen and start drawing something tat you like...
Am loving it..
In ICS the Quadrant score is 3800 but in JB its at 50XX ( Stock Rom )

I used to have S2 for a year. Have been using my Note for last 2 months. Fell in love with it at first power on and dont miss a single thing of S2. To me Note is the S2 with a bigger screen as I don't use s pen and that makes a big difference in web surfing, typing, watching movies etc. Trust us, choose Note and you will not regret it

Is it worth to buy a Nexus 4 at this time?

I've used Galaxy Note II for about 6 months and just lost it in a festival last night
So I use my old Galaxy S II for now. Do you guys think it will be worth to buy a Nexus 4. Is it like using an worse phone than ever?
Because the price of a Nexus 4 is much lower than a Note II.
I know that I will lose some advantages of a Note II such as better camera, larger screen, S-Pen and its features (which I hardly use them), better battery life.
I, however, like flashing custom roms and like the speed of AOSP roms which is way smoother than Touchwiz UX in a Note II. And of course the closed-source CPU of a Note II is not much suitable to do it.
So what do you guys think if I buy a Nexus 4 at this time. Or it would be better to wait for the new Nexus device.
Thx
Don't compare the devices based on price
The hardware will last for a long time, and it will keep receiving the latest updates too
I would sell the SII and put the money towards a Nexus 4*. The Nexus 5 (or 4.2 or whatever...) might come out, and you might hate it. It might also cost £600 pay as you go instead of being cheap like the N4
If you must have the new Nexus when it comes out, you can sell the Nexus 4 and put the money towards the new one
*This may be a little bias as I hate Samsung devices, but it doesn't take away from the fact that the Nexus 4 is great, and worth a lot more than £250
I traded my galaxy note 2 for a nexus 4 and haven't looked back. The phone is more smooth and bloat free. It's unlocked and has a better resolution of 320 ppi compared to the note 2s ppi. You get timely updates from Google and the support on this phone is unmatched. The function I miss is the s pen but you'll quickly forget all that when you start using this phone. Now for me I can't see myself using another phone other then the Nexus 4 because it's so fast and buttery smooth.

Have you noticed any lags on Nexus 4?
My old Note II had a little bit lag sometimes when scrolling through home screens or opening/closing the app drawer.
I have the note 1 and the charger port was going bad so I found a sweet deal on craiglist where this guy had just bought a N4 and he was to much an apple fan. So I scooped it up basically brand new for 300. I have had it for a week and I really do love the N4. It is so fast and easy to root. It will be getting updates for a while as well. I was always flashing AOSP roms on my note so why not just have and AOSP phone.
The only con I have found that I am getting over quickly is the screen size. I really did like the larger screen. However the N4 is not exactly a small phone either but compared to the note everything seems small. That is really the only con I have so far.
I think if your into flashing roms or like AOSP then the N4 is a no brainer.
OK. Just knows the smoothness
Let's talk about a problem (high PRS value)
Is it obviously noticeable for daily usage? I read about the problem and it makes me hesitate.

Hi,
As far as N4 is concerned, I want to tell you that I am using this phone from last 1 month & it's performance is superb.
Also if you will wait for N5, it might not come as cheap as its predecessor (N4). N4 has hardware that will not be outdated for at least 2 years.
So the choice is yours....!! :good:
Just have to say just got my nexus and its great very fast and the battery is phenomenal... At least for how much I use my phone 2-3 hours screen time or less

Agreed.. stock unrooted 4.2.2, I get 18-20 hours with 2.5 hours screen on daily.

The Galaxy was quite popular and it still has much life left. That's why Samsung decided to create a successor...the Galaxy S3.
I agree that you shouldn't compare phones based on it's price. Just so you know when Google sells the phone they don't make a profit off of it. They lose money rather than gain.

yes its still worth it at this moment in time.
Great hardware, great design, super fast and snappy
HUGE development for the phone as well.
Main question should be to yourself, is it worth it to you ?
you got the new htc one and galaxy s4 and note 3 in the future of course these will beat out nexus 4 specs doesn't bring down the nexus 4
is really up to you.
I love my nexus 4 i always got tired of my old phones quick, my touch 4g, galaxy s3, htc one s, etc.
this is the first phone im TAKING EXTRA CARE OF just because i love it so much and im keeping it as long as i can as well.
Its a decision youll have to make yourself
can u hold off a while while using the s2?
or you want a sexy phone ASAP ?

Custom rom support is great. Nexus 4 was my first Nexus device and from now on, I don't think I can go back to other phones. I'll be getting the Nexus 5 on release day for sure.

you can´t say that, that´s a lie.
2 hours of screentime on a smartphone on which you can do ANYTHING are absolute CRAP
2 hours of screentime, on a 24 hours day, means that you won´t go from morning till evening.
period.
I just got my n4 last week, and I´m really angry because no one mentions that the battery is CRAP.
the phone is absolutely great, but the battery, as I might have already mentioned, is CRAP.
If you interested in getting Latest updates quickly and great ROM support, just get it.
Else HTC one and S4 would be better options...
Its always worth it as long as the phone was newly released

Relax. It's not a lie, the battery is phenomenal. I use my Nexus 4 the same exact way I used my Galaxy S3, and I used to get 10-12 hours on the S3 tops.
I get 18-20 hours on my Nexus 4 with the same exact usage.
Sounds like you have some bad configurations/apps messing up your battery life.. or unrealistic expectations. One of the two.

You can't say that that's a lie either (see what I did there? )
He's speaking from his own experiences and you have no way of conclusively proving that he's lying and hasn't managed a day with 2 hours of screen on time. For some people the battery life will be more than adequate (e.g. for myself). For others it'll be a huge disappointment (e.g. for you). Try out different kernels and you may be able to improve on what you're currently getting. I, for one, managed 17 hours with 2hrs 40 minutes of screen on time (playing Real Racing 3, that thing is addictive) before the phone reached 10% battery. This was with brightness at 100% and the kernel that comes with PA3+.

I don't think i have wrong settings
Of course, I also don't have any 'battery saver app that kills every single feature of this phone in order to go through the day.
And there's nothing unrealistic in that.
Jeeeez I'm kinda of confused now: i used to know that iPhone users were fanboys.... But looks like the situation here isn't any better

I don't use any app to control my battery. I'm on stock 4.2.2 (not even rooted)
If 18-20 hours with 2.5-3 hours screen on time is not phenomenal for today's phones, please explain to me what is.
For the record no one is acting like a "fan boy", I'm not saying that the Nexus 4 is the best phone in the world or that other phones suck, all I am saying is that it has great battery life based on my experience comparing it to multiple Android phones. Every phone I have ever owned did not get this kind of battery life.

N4 or Note II

I have a chance to exchange my N4 for Note II + $120 C on top of my phone. I don't know what to do. I would really like to have super amoled 5.5" screenn, SD card and stronger battery. The things I don't like is physical buttons, and not a Google phone (updates and freedom of Nexus phones). I have no idea what to do. Should I go for it. What you think? Please give me your opinion.
Do it. Use the $120 towards the N4 8gb.

Decide it for yourself. One thing I hate about the Note(all Sammy devices) is that they get really sticky due to sweat. I have seen my brother's GS3 that it's really sticky to touch. On the other hand, the N4 requires a fragile user. You must have seen the numerous thread about people breaking the phone on the first day. If you are one who drops the phone a lot, then stay away from the N4.
OS side isn't a problem, if you don't mind rooting and modding. Both phones have great dev communities backing it up on the software side.
I highly suggest to try both phones by yourself in a store or some other place and decide it for yourself.
Before I got my Nexus, I was going to get the Note ll. Then I saw it up close, too big to fit in my pockets and a pain to hold. I ended getting the nexus 4, you can't beat it. I ended buying it unlocked because I don't want to sign another contract with ROBBERS. Great specs, great price, timely updates and stock Android.
It falls on the user though. Some people enjoy a huge phablet like a note ll. Depends what you are going to use it for.

I never put my phone in the pants poked anyway. My hands can hold it normally, not to too big. Plastic look is bothering me I have to say that. Compare to N4 look Note II is like a toy. From other side Samsung device like Note II have no others to compare. What else you can take to have super amoled 5.5" screen and similar spec. Nothing really.
I've had both . The note is nice but i think its to big to be a phone for me . The removable battery is nice and I got over a SD slot a long time ago. So for me its N4 all the way .

exactly...
I had the original Note and now I have the Nexus 4. The only thing I miss about the Note is the bigger screen. I don't make a lot of calls, my smartphone is more of a mobile computer, so a big screen is desirable.
The reason I switched is because Samsung (as well as most OEMs) do a horrible job of updating their phones. I've had two non-Nexus Android phones, and I hated that every time a new version of Android was released, I had to wait months or a year to get the update, if at all.
Sure there's always CM, but without kernel source, a lot of phones run like crap with CM. I have the HTC Inspire and battery life was awful with CM. I had the Note and it would randomly reboot with CM because the kernel was a hack because no JB source.
For me, features and stability won out over screen size. That being said, if the next Nexus phone is bigger than the N4, I'll be getting it immediately.

I came from the Note n7000 as well. Used my phone in the same manner, as a mini PC. However, I wouldnt go back to the Note. It all depends on your needs for the phone. If you want a better camera and a media device due to the large screen. Then ya. However, if you prefer excellent battery life on a phone with a global community of great developers then stay with the n4.
PS remember Nexus 4 will get updates much faster than the note 2 and you wont get asked/mocked/ridiculed CONSTANTLY about having such a massive phone and explaining to others why you have it.

i gotta say though the note 2 is lacking in the "original development" area. there's lots of ports and touchwiz based roms but for an aosp, there's much to be desired.
cyanogenmod was onboard until relatively recently then it stopped. it's up to a few to really keep it up and so far, it's all been nightlies and no stable releases.
i just gave up my note 2 and had to come back to a nexus 4 because of the lack of support. gs3 or gs4 probably has proper support.
Having both the N4 and the NII I'd say emphatically the Note II is worth it. No picky, fragile sim card tray. No fragile glass back, poor reception, slow mobile data.
The Note II has a 2-3 day battery, gets a signal where the N4 can't, and has a beautiful display.
The best thing about the N4 is the price and it's a Google device. For $120 anybody would be nuts to choose a N4.

Is nexus reception that poor? I need to decide between those two phones. One big drawback for me is mali400 in note 2. I think that adreno 320 is more futureproof. Could you tell me about camera quality on nexus vs note 2? My brother has note 2 but unfortunately i dont know anyone with nexus 4 to compare them.

Camera in note2 is far superior in focus IQ and speed. Low light images are better on the note 2. I also used to have one.

Depends on your needs! For instance, a friend of mine is a designer, she loves NOTE2.
Thank you everyone. I will stay with my N4. I just can not stand physical buttons, cheap plastic and huge price differences. N4 is better device except sd card and smaller screen. The only thing I would like is 5.5" but everything else is step back for me. Not even mentioning the community for N4. So much stuff to choose between. With Note 2 after having N4 I will feel like having old device and stick with what I have. No way, not me...

My N2 for a Nexus 5

My brother bought a Nexus 5 and he doesn´t like it. He said if I want we can change (my note 2 for his Nexus 5) and despite the bovious prices difference what you do in my place? I am very satisfied with my Samsung and will put a new rom to give a extra live (it has official 4.4.2).
Thanks and sorry for my bad english

If you can compromise with battery life and screen size then go for it. Snapdragon 800 will blow your mind. Camera is also not that great in N5 but it'll do the job just right.
I say go for it.
I don't know if that is a good idea, I'd keep the Note. You can't really compare these 2 devices in terms of Performance. N5 runs stock, N2 runs TouchWiz. Stock Android is and will always be buttery smooth. TouchWiz can also be quite smooth and that stuff but yeah, it is a skin of Android which might be not so smooth and fast all the time but with KitKat, it's pretty fast.
N5 has a really small battery and the Note 2s battery blows the N5 out of the way. N5s display is LCD and the N2 has a SAMOLED Display but lower PPI but anyways, think twice, seriously. I had the Nexus 4 for 2 months and I missed my Note 2 so much, the Nexus 4 was really crap compared to the Note.
Just my 2 cents.

Never ever, cause Nexus may be fast, smooth and other pleasant things, but in fact and from my point of view: BORING
You can have pure Android experience on Note 2 too (AOSP-roms), but you'll never feel the flexibility of having S5, Note 3 features or even Note 2 S-Pen on a Nexus.
If someone would donate me a Nexus I would sell it to even get a second N2.
Thanx for the answers; it´s really hard to decide and the phones can´t be compared. The only way to both be satisfied that I can think now is, I change with him, sell the nexus and buy a note 3... Here in Souht America the prices are very different (almost twice the price for a nexus 5 new to one used N2).
Ok i own a galaxy nexus right now, about nexus devices being boring is a fact they are, but when that happens u just swap your rom, this week i will have my note 2 back, however i will not sell galaxy nexus for now
The advantages
galaxy nexus
always updated,
butter smooth,
a lot of customization,
The disadvantages
no memory card,
recovery problems, cause of internal storage(once i ve done a full wipe and i had no rom on it, a big mess)
note 2
big screen (major advantage)
battery
sdcard
disadvantages
serious software problems(SDS)
my final veredict is, if you are a flashoolic and u just love custom roms, go for a nexus(of course you will have to say goodbye to battery and screen) if u just dont like to flash roms that much and u seek more for watch moovies or play hd games stick with the note,
keep also in mind that u can sell the nexus and buy a note 3 with some more money

Kindly disagreed:
SDS is mostly a myth and overrated (whenever phone freezes, people start crying about SDS)
I can port nearly every device on Note 2 but no Touchwiz rom on a nexus (just take a look around Dev forum and my signature).
So, for flashoholics like me there is only Note.

Respectfully disagreed,
I am a regular follower of XDA and some sites and flash many things just even to try sometimes. I also get bored easily with regular software and like to try new ways of using the phone.
If you like to use Note 2 "as is" then it is still a great phone (even greater than some newer phones). However trying new things with that phone is not about discovering what's new on the developers' world, instead it is mostly about "trying a new cure"..
I recently updated my Note 2 to 4.4.2 and then broke my warranty out of curiosity. TW KitKat is really good for people who are looking for a good phone. But then I went for Paranoid Android. The next thing I was looking for to flash was a camera cure because of the problematic camera. After that got solved, now my WiFi is not turning on without a restart and there is not even one person who mentions it on the main topic (I will, but...). In addition to that there is very low volume problem of the sound recording (whether it be a video or just voice) and there is no solution to this either.
I had bought a Nexus 4 and given my Note 2 to my sister. After 5 months she wanted my Nexus and offered my Note 2 back. I couldn't say no cause she really wanted it. Now I have two data coming from two different persons, one is a flashocolic and the other is just a user who likes iPhones etc. The one thing in common is that they both prefer the Nexus.
Because there is really a solution to everything on the Nexus world, software-wise. But here, on Note 2's world, it's like yesterday that the devs were reprehending people with complaints by saying "do it yourself if you can!!!" out of the anger to Samsung not sharing sources.
There is solution to Nexus battery problems too (you could call that a problem only after a Note). Just buy a power bank and you'll get even more battery time than a Note.
On the camera wise, Note 2 is really good. I believe that is the only thing without a solution for a Nexus device. A Nexus sometimes can match with Note 2's camera but never outdo it.
For every other thing you want or you might wanna have in the future, a Nexus is a better and more open possibility..

Can i ask you how many notes2 have u had?
well i had 2 and both died in the night, i couldnt do nothing, `
so please dont tell me that sds doesn't exist, "i had nightmeers about it ahah"
now im getting my note 2 after a Motherboard replacement.
and whats this and this
I do not want to convince anybody. It is only my point of view at the beginning of developing own roms and the possibilities with this ancient device are still outstanding. Certainly better is the Note 3 and the upcoming Note 4.
My dream is Xperia Z2 on Note 2 with S-Pen features and hopefully soon...... :fingers-crossed:

I am supporting on several forums and in many languages and I have seen SDS in realty.
BUT and that is also true: If thousand users ask, if they maybe have SDS cause device seems to die, always freezes, bootloops aso. there is not even one who really suffers from that issue.
And at last your links to Sammy roms on Nexus: You can't be serious to compare that kind of stuff with the abilities of S-Pen.
Kind regards

REALLY!?!?
THIS IS A DEVICE FROM 2011 with these specs
can u tell me what was the first device receiving a port on htc sense 6?
well let's see if note 2 gets first android L than galaxy nexus?
i'm not triyng to convince anybody either, i'm just seiing things as they are, and note 1,2 and 3 are devices with remarcable specs on hardware, but in therms of updates and customization u know who rules.
I have my N2 for about a year and half, and never ever been in trouble with it: good battery life, specs and apps, but to tell the truth I use the s-pen just a few days... It´s like new in this moment as I recently installed the DN3 (awesome rom).
Please, who has the Nexus 5, what is the estimated time of battery (use my N2 without bluetooth disbled only and supports a entire day) and what can be done to enhance it?

lets hope so, i will get mine this week
That´s right, the community of N2 is strong and with no doubt we will have the Android L... Well, let´s study about this negociation N2 x N5...
I guess I am losing some arguements here..
For those who believe S Pen is on top of the "advantages list", that 1024 different pressure senser is only functioning for some of the Samsung built-in apps and an all called Papyrus (as far as I know). Besides, as a person who losev to draw/sketch (and take notes with hand writing) I have now 2 options; a Nexus 7 with bigger screen and a good touch-pen (which can be bouth seperately from anywhere) or my Note 2 with a special pen but also with a smaller screen. I ca nassure you, bigger screen has the advantage here so IF you are into professioanal drawing with all the bells and whisles of that pen either buy a pen and touch-mat set for your laptop or get a Note 10.1. Note 2 (or any 5.x " sized place ) is only suitable for small sketches and hand writing notes which gives nothing to the pressure differentiation. So, basicly it's a feature and it's there. Of course I am note taking it as an disadvantage, but it's not a choice changer.
For those who picks the battery life as a winner; that is definetely true. If you want all your time in one housing any Note phone is a way to go. But if we are calculating the total volume, than a regular phone with an external battery or powerbank would be almost same.
For those who enjoy the big screen and out ir on top of the list; now that's unique. however it's hard to write with one hand -say, on the bus- no matter how big your hands are. And when you are confortable to use the dervice in any way you like, only than the screen size comes as an advantage. But -like in the pen situation- if yo reallty want a bigger screen, this is just a big phone, not a tablet.
One more thing with the screen, it's one of the best screens Samsung has ever made. But today every brand is giving bigger screens to their devices and the colors are much better on most of other phones. Please don't tell me AMOLED is the future with it's super blacks of infinite contrasts etc. Any Xperia screen, or any of he last 2 Nexuses have better screens and much more accurate color reproduction. Even though Samsung has given us 4 scenerios to choose, there is no "true" color choice there. And there is no true whites on that screen. So, black is just one color (which Samsung also fails to give us, look carefully and most of you'll notice that blacks are not same everywhere on the screen) to brag, but all the other colors are unrealistic.
For those who wants to give the credit to the Wolfson sound chip, now that's correct Nothing to say here. Quallcomm is just getting warmt with their new SoCs on the music busniess and we all know HTC's afforts are mostly for advertising.
And also the camera, maybe the best of it's time. Sadly it is bought from Sony but all the camera software and HAL is completely re-written by Samsung and not shared to the public. So any AOSP ROM lovers has to deal with problems on the camera (I believe, the devs that made to this far created a miracle, not thanks to SAmsung of course)
And about ROM porting; IF TouchWiz is so good why need for porting frıom other ROMs? AOSP is so "empty" for some people so they port other ROMs to Nexus phones or they create AOSP for other phones so they can be clean and open. But why port Xperie and Sense ROMs to a TouchWiz based and un-shared device? I guess deep down we all know, no matter how much goodness it contains inside, TouchWiz will make everyone bored and feel unprofessional?
And the Samsung build quality, I wish there was a way to ignore this.
Please don't misunderstand me. I love my Note 2. It would be an incredebly better and longer lifed device if Samsung shared more about it. But I don't see ant of its features as unique and irreplacable. And Nexus 5 has a bigger family with an easier life for an average XDA follower (or for just a curious person)
Probably will change the devices until wednesday and return to post my impressions. As my brother wish a lot since I buy the N2 and the difference in prices here I can´t say no. In last scenary I´ll sell or change the N5 for another phablet... thanks to everyone who asked and post comments.
I'll take N5 if I were you because I prefer stock!:good:
take the N5, sell it, buy another N2, keep the profit.
dude i have both nexus 5 and note 2(both active usage) with kitkat
FOR ME ,i love the nexus 5
nexus 5 is more compact,light ,performance beast,nice and fast ui,quick updates,high res screen without oversaturated tones,nice camera(with hdr+)
BUT
if battery life is really what you need then go for note2 ..i get about 22hrs-23hrs of usage with a bit less than 3hrs screen ontime with nexus 5
with note 2 i get just a bit less than 2 days with the same usage
but nexus 5 has heating issues
note 2 has expandable memory which might be a big deal for some people(me),and much louder speaker, big screen size
...go with n5 but if u need battery, expandable storage, and s-pen..and lag then go for note2
