Always be happy with what you have. The way this tech moves you can't keep saying "I'll hold out" because every 4 months something newer will come out, guaranteed.
Just like right now. Will I buy a Galaxy S3, probably. But I want to wait till they show what the US versions will have to make my final decision. Will it suck that Samsung will take forever for JB on that phone, yes it will. But I think the 6 months I have with that phone will out weigh holding on to my N1. Consider yourself lucky you had more time with that phone than I will with with S3 by the time something newer comes out.

Agreed
Actually I am thrilled with the One S. Snapdragon S4, Beautiful screen, fast, smooth, 5100 Quadrants, and best of all solid touch screen and 10 to 18mb read speeds. Rooted and ready to flash first rom--
Still miss N1--but sold--

Too bad iPhone brought Sprints funds down and they are behind the technology.. I don't know why Sprint had to get the expensive iPhone. Now because of that we don't have the HTC One series -.- . Once again Apple had to screw up. If only the damn Apple beggars stopped begging Sprint to get the iPhone 4S we would still be in the top. Sprint was one of the few carriers that got 4G first. Now there's only like very little phones and most are outdated. I feel that the evo LTE will epicly fail. No removable battery, which is a big deal when your running a Dual core 1.5ghz phone with 4G and LTE . And HD sounds. The 200 extra mah may be better than the 1800mah battery , but then again, it doesn't really matter.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA

I swear , if I get the LTE, first thing I'm doing is looking for a battery disassemble guide!
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA

I worrried about no removable battery and no sd slot--but, I don't think it will be an issue. Time will tell. Internal sd gives amazing read/write speeds.

this is definitely good news...

Upgrade my Vibrant????

OK contract is up and I have a chance for a full upgrade with T-Mobile, would it be wise to use it now for maybe a Sensation, G2X, Galaxy S 4g
Any feedback from anyone who has tested the phones would be great
I tried the Sensation for like 4 days. I'd stay far away from it... If you can wait, rumor has it that the Hercules should be out no later than late September. That's undoubtedly what I will be doing. Apparently no SG2 for T Mo coming.

Is the Hercules the name for the new Nexus. If I were going to get a new phone I would get the Nexus. I personally have a Vibrant T-959 but all my friends have the Nexus. I love that phone and will probably get the new Nexus this fall.
Same in the dilemma as you. Going to wait and see when the prices drop. My vibrant is doing almost everything I ask for except the flash camera and GPS.
Yeah I know that's why I'm hesitating, my vibrant with Trigger 3.3 + Bullet is plenty quick and everything works just right, including GPS (quick to lock & spot on). That dual core processor is tempting on the Sensation but I've heard a lot of mixed reviews of it.
I'm in the same boat and am waiting to see what the next Nexus phone holds. After this phone and the mytouch slide I had before, I'm done waiting for carrier updates and locked bootloaders. Nexus for me from here on out.

Hold out for the Hercules, its a beast!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I agree on both points. BUT, guys, remember the hype on Sensation? Then when they bit, it had mixed reviews.
"... Sensation is a BEAST of a phone! Tops all others when it arrives in the US!"
Yeah. I heard it before. I'm waiting for a Nexus line or whenever there's a bit better review of the Hercules. Besides, the rumor that the Herc is coming this fall is just pure speculation.
Either that, or wait for the SGS II 1.4Ghz to lower thier prices. Since we'll end up becoming AT&T soon with the merger, SGSII 1.4Ghz version might fit, so it's best to wait out on a lot of things nowadays. Rumor also dictates that the SGS II 1.4Ghz will have mixed bands of TMO and AT&T.
Aaaahhh, rumors. Hate to love them, Love to hate them. I'll believe it when it's on tv or media. Until then, waiting it out really will come to play for my next "Beast".
wait a few months... see what comes out (Hercules)... then wait another month or two for prices to drop and bugs to get worked out!
If we get Gingerbread like rumored, that will add another month or two of enjoyment to our phones... and the Netflix app being released for our phones (works on mine, stock 2.2 + Voodoo KB1 kernel)... HOURS of endless enjoyment to hold you over until the next wave of goodies comes out! And maybe prices to be amazing over holidays!

What are you waiting to upgrade for?

Are you happy with your phone still? Are you waiting for possibly a new LTE phone in 2012? Or just waiting on your upgrade?
Just curious to see what others thinking about their phone. My phone still works great, but being the geek I am. I'm itching for something new. The E4GT looks like a sweet phone, and supposedly there's a fix for the LOS that developers got their hands on.
Waiting for something that would be a real upgrade, so far I've been very happy with my evo, thanks to the devs here. Until sprint releases a LTE device that's killer spec wise, & has some decent development going on, I'll stay with my OG. I've had my evo since it came out, and its totally because the devs here keep my evo fresh & interesting.

Yeah my EVO is running strong still, and with the development of ICS. Maybe that'll hold me over? I can't say that if I saw another great deal on an ET4G that I won't pass it up lol. Just have to wait and see.... I wish we had an idea of phones for 2012 and estimates on release dates.

They already said the the first LTE phones wouldn't be out until around june / july. Though they will begin the towers in early 2012.
1. waiting for sense 2.1 = Got it
2. waiting for sense 3.0 = Got it
3. waiting for sense 3.5 = Got it
I guess I'm waiting for my contract to be up. Then I will consider something new, but I see no need right now for what I use the phone for. The next best thing isn't always the best IMO...

My upgrade isn't until August 2012. There should be a bunch of new phones released between now and then. The Galaxy Nexus and HTC Edge or other new quad core phones look intriguing, Iphone 5 (probably not I like the personalization options Android has). As long as we get an ICS rom it will feel like we're running the latest phone though, at least for now.
my upgrade isn't until March, so I'm sure a lot of new phones will be out by then. But if I had to pick right now, I'd either get the GS2 or leave Sprint for the Galaxy Nexus
i cant decideeeee, i dont know if i should get iphone or wait for early 2012 to upgrade
i do want GN not sure if sprint will take their time like they did with Nexus S
for now will keep the EVO going since we have great Devs... and recently swtiched prl to verizon and its working great/better so not sure why switch anyway

I would like another htc phone. Quad core, lots of internal storage and 64 gb card compatible(hopefully ). Some phones due out next year look pretty nice
We're comin from a pure power source.
I need to switch to verizon because I work in places where sprint's 3g service is junk, so as soon as the nexus is released, i'm gone.
An LTE phone (due next year). A quad core phone. Something with just a little more internal storage.

Honestly, it's going to take an awful lot for me to upgrade. There isn't really anything I want to do with a phone that I can't already do with my Evo.
Hardware Acceleration is going to make ICS run really well (even on older hardware), and I expect that the specs in the Evo will allow it to continue on just like a modern phone. Bluetooth, front-facing camera, etc. will continue to make it a contender.
I will be sticking with mine (not counting an accident) for at least another generation until Nexus Next is available, and then consider based on hardware and Android J+.
I would maybe go for that Nexus S (sexy thang). However, there aren't any phones offering me my Death Ray flashlight and kickstand, so...the Evo stays.
I do have 2 bright spots on my screen though, which is annoying.
Im due for upgrade on 2 evos around February. The only thing I really like is the samsung s2..
That phone will probably be 99 but the time end of Feb comes around..
Who knows though, I may just hang tight without a contract..
Waiting for my contract to end. Hopefully network will be working better by then.

Large upgrade for others? ^_^

I'm upgrading from a Sprint Evo 4G and I'm blown away when I compare the specs of the two phones, regardless of what Samsung throws out in the next few weeks I'm getting the One, HTC build quality just blows me away, my Evo 4G lasted 2 1/2 years or so and the battery charges like new, and the phone is 95 percent mint condition, with the tiniest scratch on the screen from a drunk accident.
Who else is making a drastic upgrade and from what model?
I'm upgrading from an iPhone 4 I've had for 2 and a half years so this is big for me, especially since I'm moving over from iOS to android. I can't wait.

I'm upgrading from a Samsung Vibrant. I would have kept the device because it was actually good enough for me. But I damaged the LCD cable and now it displays red-tinted colors. This, and some previous problems like a (very) scratched screen, SD card slot half-broken, GPS never works, camera lens missing....
Well, I think I need a replacement

Also Android has come a long way since the time i got my iPhone 4. Can't wait to root my device when a root becomes available. Yup, a lot of my friends still don't believe my mytouch is running the same OS as them and in some cases still very much powerful. If it wasn't for the One being announced, I probably would've stuck with it for a few more month maybe another year. But the One sold me.

Same case here! I went to the town in Liverpool to have a hands-on today. I must say the phone is stunning, and without any doubt captures amazing photos, let alone the extra capabilities to shoot slow-motion videos and sequence shots and the ability to edit them thereafter. Boomsound is not only decent, it is so loud that it could easily fill up a small reading room without any assistance of external speakers. The sound is, of course, crisp and clear.
Ever since the phone is rumoured to release i have been monitoring its progress. Have to regrettably admit that i have never been that hardworking in my studies. HTC One definitely lives up to my expectations, in fact it surpasses them.
Ordered the Silver once i got back. Now I'm dying to get it.
Upgrading from the HTC Incredible S myself, there's nothing actually wrong with the phone, and nothing on the market was even remotely luring me into buying it until I saw the HTC One. I am completely sold on it, never been a fan of GS3 (sure, awesome specs, but I really didn't like the way it handled/felt)
My biggest problem is picking the color, I absolutely adore both black and silver, so I picked the silver out of a coin toss
Upgrading from my HTC sensation. While it served me well, I can't resist the HTC One. Was nowhere near as interested in last year's One-X series...have to say that I'm genuinely excited and counting the days until my pre-order arrives.
DHD all the way! I'll still be keeping it

I will be leaving my trusty 3VO. Though not a huge upgrade, it's still quite the upgrade, and I'm especially liking all I've seen about the upgrade in the camera! I will miss my familiarity, as I changed my digitizer twice and my wife's once, and REALLY miss my lack of volume down button (from the 1st digitizer change)...
I'm coming from my (nearly) 3 year old HTC Desire.... Can't wait! got the black version on pre-order.
Upgrading from MyTouch 4g Slide. It all started when the digitizer got broken into pieces had it replaced then a few weeks it totally shut itself down permanently. Right now am using my HTC Sensation so yeah a big upgrade for me.

Well played HTC

We'll have to see what Samsung can bring in a couple of days but so far the One has smoked every other android flagship this year in reviews and benchmarks, and is also getting a ton of free interest and attention from the tech media. Great job in 2013 from this company

As for SD and BATTERY, I find that I don't care as much as I thought I once did. With 32gb or 64gb is more than enough. Battery life is decent enough now (except power users like myself)
My wife in an average tech consumer and it's the first time she's excited for a phone release. In her case, the ONE fits all her needs well and above. Save goes for most of the average consumer. Put the 2 phones side by side and which one catches your eye the most. The average consumer knows little too nothing about specs.

First of all 32gb is enough.
For Removable battery I can say my friends 6 month old s3 battery doesn't work as it should. He loads his smartphone all the night and doesn't get a full charge.
At least for non removable battery u get automatically 2years on guarantee for batt. So please tell me now where is the disadvantage? There aren't also 95% or even 60% of people who carry a 2nd batt.
People who complain (not all but most of them) just see there isn't a sd and a non removable batt and say no I don't want that. But they don't even carry a 2nd batt or like my gf they don't even buy a sd on a 16gb s3....

I'm not surprised s4 is just a bigger version of s3 and slightly smaller then note 2 but just as ugly. Lol
Waiting for htc one delivery.
At first I was pissed about a non removable battery and no SD card on my one x but I've since then gotten used to it. Its not as bad of a deal as people make it out to be.32gb should be more than enough on your phone. You don't need to store 174673 HD movies on it...
I really want the one but I swore to myself I wouldn't buy another HTC until they change the way they treat devs and users who want to unlock their devices. I'll hold onto my one x till HTC changes or till a new phone catches my eye that's not all plastic like the s3 and s4 probably too. I would buy Sammy since we don't have to deal with this s-off crap but can't spend $500+ on a plastic phone.

[Q] Get N4 now or wait for N5

I had bought a N4 in January this year and gave it to my cousin last month. Now I'm using her aged Galaxy S and need to upgrade sooner or later.
The N4 still looks to be the best phone for my needs, but I'm also intrigued by the possible N5 in a couple of months.
Shall I get the N4 now or wait for N5 for 2-3 months?

Either way you could probably wait for the N5 come out before you decide on anything because if you get the N4 it'll be cheaper when the N5 is out or get the N5 if you decide you like it.

LTE is easily achievable for someone with technical skills. I also don't really like the battery and the lack of an SD card.
NExus 4 is still a good phone. I got one about six weeks ago and it's great for me.
It all just depends on what you want and how long you are willing to wait. I have no idea when the N5 will be announced, but if you think you can wait for it to come out, then wait. Even if you decide you'd rather go with the N4, then you can get it cheaper when the N5 rolls out. Either way, if you wait you win, you either get the newest device or you get a still pretty good phone on the cheap.
Of course, if you can't wait, you are still getting a pretty good phone in the N4.
In my opinion, in the end either way you come out with a pretty good phone.

LTE is easily achievable for someone with technical skills. I also don't really like the battery and the lack of an SD card.

LTE only works on band 4 which is rarely used in the US except on T-Mobile. AT&T only use band 4 in a few places. This is not a LTE phone for 99% of people.

I love my N4 but it is lacking in hardware compared to many of the latest phones. I will certainly be updating when the new Nexus comes out later this year.
I'm now on my 3rd nexus 4 because the Sammy s4 and the HTC one just didn't do it for me. After I brought them .
The nexus 4 won't be outdated for a long time. All this jargon about more cores...ghzzzz...ram.... Etc will make nothing any more then what it can already do. The n4 runs like a gem. My battery is lasting more then 22 hours. Screen is perfect. Memory is suffient. Ram is fine. Speed is awesome. Camera is great with some tweeks. Lte runs fine.
The only reason ppl change soon is because of advertisement and bigger numbers mean better ... Comparing my n4 to an s4 I had its so much more smoother and better on most tasks.
Hell even the galaxy nexus is still a cracking phone.
Get the n5 if you feel it will bring more into your life. I can bet most of its features will be portable asap....
Either way a nexus is a great phone.
Regards

The biggest gripe about the device is probably the storage. Hardly getting by with the 16gb since I use it for music as well. Have about 1gb of space left which I reserve for downloading roms and whatnot and I barely have any music stored on it. Lack of LTE out of the box was also a pain for a couple months before I decided to go on XDA forums since I am on T-Mobile. If T-Mobile is in your area and you have good coverage, no reason not to switch to them since they don't have contracts and have the cheapest unlimited plan. Either way, just wait for the N5 announcement so you can either get the N5 if you decide that you want better features right out of the box or get the N4 and save a bunch of money.
Grow up.. do a market research and decide for yourself.. seriously.. ppl want everything told to them these days..

N4 was good but is actually dated now, IMO.

What exactly is outdated?!
Two things that You can get "better" with newer phone:
1) FHD screen (why do You need this? N4 screen is HQ allready)
2) More pixels to camera (and as You know - more pixels doesn't mean BETTER camera)
Nexus 4 is great phone but you can think htc one or s4 if you have money to buy them.

This is why I'm starting to hate the android mainstream community, all you talk about is the Latest HTC or Samsung Device and brag about specs...those are not the only phones available,..I don't know how apple people stand that **** either

My two cents. I knew about the moto x, and possible nexus 5 but I went with the nexus 4 because its well-known inside and out. Pure Google, or nodded Google for us modders, and its half the price(or a quarter of the price through T-Mobile) than the "latest and greatest" which honestly aren't that great. I get in the 20k mark on antutu, only to be beat out by the one and s4. The camera isn't that bad, and its loads better than some of my older phones, and most importantly no skinning or waiting for updates.
The nexus 5 honestly will probably be slightly better but I love my nexus 4. I'd say go for it now as the new phone may have another guarded Qualcomm chip. At least this one isn't so guarded.
