Upgrade my Vibrant???? - Vibrant General

OK contract is up and I have a chance for a full upgrade with T-Mobile, would it be wise to use it now for maybe a Sensation, G2X, Galaxy S 4g
Any feedback from anyone who has tested the phones would be great

I tried the Sensation for like 4 days. I'd stay far away from it... If you can wait, rumor has it that the Hercules should be out no later than late September. That's undoubtedly what I will be doing. Apparently no SG2 for T Mo coming.

Is the Hercules the name for the new Nexus. If I were going to get a new phone I would get the Nexus. I personally have a Vibrant T-959 but all my friends have the Nexus. I love that phone and will probably get the new Nexus this fall.

Same in the dilemma as you. Going to wait and see when the prices drop. My vibrant is doing almost everything I ask for except the flash camera and GPS.

Yeah I know that's why I'm hesitating, my vibrant with Trigger 3.3 + Bullet is plenty quick and everything works just right, including GPS (quick to lock & spot on). That dual core processor is tempting on the Sensation but I've heard a lot of mixed reviews of it.

I'm in the same boat and am waiting to see what the next Nexus phone holds. After this phone and the mytouch slide I had before, I'm done waiting for carrier updates and locked bootloaders. Nexus for me from here on out.

Hold out for the Hercules, its a beast!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

I agree on both points. BUT, guys, remember the hype on Sensation? Then when they bit, it had mixed reviews.
"... Sensation is a BEAST of a phone! Tops all others when it arrives in the US!"
Yeah. I heard it before. I'm waiting for a Nexus line or whenever there's a bit better review of the Hercules. Besides, the rumor that the Herc is coming this fall is just pure speculation.
Either that, or wait for the SGS II 1.4Ghz to lower thier prices. Since we'll end up becoming AT&T soon with the merger, SGSII 1.4Ghz version might fit, so it's best to wait out on a lot of things nowadays. Rumor also dictates that the SGS II 1.4Ghz will have mixed bands of TMO and AT&T.
Aaaahhh, rumors. Hate to love them, Love to hate them. I'll believe it when it's on tv or media. Until then, waiting it out really will come to play for my next "Beast".

wait a few months... see what comes out (Hercules)... then wait another month or two for prices to drop and bugs to get worked out!
If we get Gingerbread like rumored, that will add another month or two of enjoyment to our phones... and the Netflix app being released for our phones (works on mine, stock 2.2 + Voodoo KB1 kernel)... HOURS of endless enjoyment to hold you over until the next wave of goodies comes out! And maybe prices to be amazing over holidays!

yeah and the specs of those newer phones still dont meet up to the Evo really. as i said in the other thread, the next show is our last hope i guess. Hopefully it will be something along the lines of using the newer snapdragon chips with DRM and well get netflix. anything less would be a disappointment really.
What in the crap. All these other companies are making superphones and HTC just barely upgrades all these phones? There's gotta be something going on here.......
Rumor has it....

Also if I'm not mistaken, HTC sources all their chips from qualcomm and qualcomm just doesn't have a dualcore chip yet so that's what they're waiting on. Can anyone confirm this?

The full next generation HTC phone is codenamed "Pyramid" it will have 1.2ghz dual core...double the RAM...double the memory...better screen technology...
It sounds like the perfect device to be the new EVO2...but the strange thing is that T-Mobile is getting this "Pyramid" for a May launch. At least according to the rumors I read.
Samsung flat out kicked HTC's ass at MWC. No ifs ands or buts about it.
htc's next phone needs to keep hiding, the longer it takes to come out, the better it will be and the evo isn't unbearable yet
No wonder Sprint had a big event for the Echo. There isn't crap out there that will serve as the next flagship phone for Sprint. One last mobile event to go so hopefully I'll have egg on my face.

Dont meet up to the EVO? What the hell are you talking about? These phones aren't great compared to the new dual core super phones but they are definitely better than the aged EVO.

Let put it all in perspective here. LG, Samsung, and Motorola showed off their v10 and v12 engine cars. HTC add 50 hp to their v8 beast. God help me. Yet, either way anything Samsung comes out with no matter how great the hardware is will be crap. Hence the moment and current galaxy S models that still don't have official Froyo. ;p Sorry I had to take my frustration out on someone.
I have hopes the EVO2 will be announced in March / April. Because Sprint would be silly to keep it too quiet for long otherwise buyers will start looking elsewhere. This Summer some bad ass phones coming out. The HTC Pyramid on T-mobile, and hate to say this but the iPhone5 with 4" screen, dual cote, and a rumored major redesign of iOS adding notifications and widgets. If Sprint doesn't at least announce an EVO2 by June, I will seriously think about that new iPhone5.
It looks like at&t and tmobile will get the nice phones... My mt4g was fast but I prefer my evo.

I do LOVE my EVO, with Myn's RL5 ROM, this phone is a beast, and much better on battery life. But seeing these new devices announced, makes me wonder what we could be playing with soon, I am addicted to cool technology.
I don't want much in an EVO2, mainly a thinner and less bulky device, and hopefully improved battery life, and for sure want GPU acceleration, and a better screen to match something like the Super AMOLED.
But if Sprint keeps quiet on a EVO successor, I will seriously look elsewhere this June. Because come this Summer, the EVO1 will be outdated compared to the other high end devices from Apple, Samsung, Motorola...

Actually the best phone for 2011 will most likely be the Nexus-3.0 due out at the end of the year, it will ship with the newest Android OS, and have some amazing technology from what I hear. But if it is for T-Mobile only, screw that, their service sucks by me, and really blows inside buildings.
I hope the Nexus-3.0 is as future proof as the Nexus-One was, it came out with hardware that was like 6 months ahead of it's time. And I have heard that Motorola wants to get in on the Nexus game.
I am still thinking the top phones for 2011 will be;
- EVO2
- iPhone5
- Nexus-3.0

Lg2x over vibrant?

So the release date for the us lg g2x for tmobile hits online store on the 15th of april and in stores 20th of april. With my contract expiring, should I get the lg g2x? I love the vibrant but I feel its time to move.on..

I think I'm going to wait and see how the dev scene for the 2x is and what the official specs for the htc pyramid are before I choose.
I am not very impressed with the display and camera of Optimus 2X which is essentially a G2X
G2X is cool but I still want to wait to see what the Pyramid has to offer.
It would be awesome if Samsung made the Galaxy S II a G-Series phone.
I would wait for the pyramid.
Im going to pick this one up just to sell it when the galaxy s II come out. Im sick of my vibrant as well...
Is the pyramid for tmobile? If so I'll wait. I also heard the sgs2 is quite expensive
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
I'm waiting for the pyramid. No more Samsung for me.
Pyramid is going to have a locked bootloader which may take a long time to crack. I'd go with Samung/LG or anyone who supports open architecture.
G2X is surely tempting but I'd wait for a review to compare camera samples gps lcd etc.
The review from gsmarena for optimus2x doesn't look like camera and display are anything special...it says the lcd is not as good as iphone 4 despite using same technology and teh camera has a blue tint/less saturation and colors don't look very appealing.
Nevertheles, LG has put out a solid device and definitely heading in the right direction.
I'm considering this also. I'm kinda tired of the vibrant and if you have a family plan you can use the other lines upgrades for smart phones if you go through radio shack.

lol good grammer!!!!!!
well the SgS II is my option... honestly yes samsung is ****ed up on how they release updates/sources for there phones but SUPER AMOLED! your ****ing high if your gonna give that up... my brother has a Droid x.... i had a HD2 and then a HD7 and after 8 months of my vibrant i wont switch to LG/HTC... . and **** HTC ohhh cool you get updates sooner but the boot loader will take a few months to crack... it took a month just for them to crack the droid X ( let alone the 4.3' screen on that droid ****ing blows... big LCD no clarity?)
**** any think other than SuperAMOLED!
the galaxy s/SGS II's are the BEST phone for your money and proven to preform... ive soft bricked my phone several times learning how to flash/mod
my brother had to get a 500 droid after he bricked his....
if your sick of your vibrant give it to me.... or atleast consider SgS II
as for the cost of the SGS II its most likely gonne be 500-600 bucks WITHOUT CONTRACT/UPGRADE... so more in the 200-300 range.... Gx2 LMFAO my old nokia flip phone has a better camera and screen...
tmobile may not get the galaxys2.
the g2x has only 512mb of ram. the pyramid has 1gb.
so i can see waiting.
unfortunetly i have the money now.
so if apr 12th doesnt include a world release of the pyramid i may have to go g2x.
the screen is comparible to samoled.
not quite as good but still just slightly lesser.

im considering this phone too. Samsung GS2 might take a while for T-mo since they have to add the bands for t-mo's 4G and with the update history samsung has, not really excited about it. The HTC pyramid interested me before, but now i could care less about it. The G2x will have vanilla android, which they stated they chose vanilla android in order to get updates out quickly, so we'll see how that goes. I dont have to renew till november, so we'll see what happens. I just wish the G2x had the NOVA screen. Maybe by the time I can upgrade they'll be more options.
You could get Thrill 4G, it has NOVA screen and 3D recording. It also has OMAP which is faster than Tegra. You'll need to buy it off contract when ATT releases it,

I'm waiting for Intel's i7 mobile to come out... last I heard it is due Q5 of 2011. The first phone featuring the processor is going to have active cooling with running fans. The prototype looks bad ass. It's like a classic American muscle car with a large vent/intake on the hood for its turbos, except on a phone.
For all those people who want to upgrade, but still have a while left on their original contract....
If you call up customer service, and tell them you are thinking about jumping ship, and want to know when your contract is up, they will usually allow you an upgrade, and restart your contract the day you buy the upgrade. I've done this twice now, and I'll do it again when the lgx2 comes out. (you have to do this with customer service, and not at the store. I called up there and *****ed about my vibrant's gps, etc, and they said I could do an upgrade if I wanted.)
I would if I could

What phone to get next? (buying tomorrow)

Hey.
I have samsung vibrant right now which is a great phone, so I am going to keep this phone but also get another phone to use on daily basis.
What are some of the good phones that are better than the vibrant and has good support?
Please share your opinions.
Thanks.

not tmobile, i mean any phone which are good nowadays and better than vibrant
You could give HD7 a try, solid phone but lacks that support Android has ATM but you wouldn't mind that since you're keeping your Vibrant.
There are a lot of great new phones coming out. I'm considering going to Verizon for one of the new Droids coming out in the next couple months.
the LG G2x will be in stores on the 20th, online the 15th. Wait til then at least.
Get the red one!
Atrix or g2x. I'd wait for the g2x in five more days personally. Unless you want to support motorola's choice to lock boot loaders. Those are the only two phones that are faster than ours.

Wait for the Pyramid.
Atrix or g2x seconded..
G2x looks like a good choice, hope they get a strong dev community.
Evo 3d or sgs 2!!!
I'd say the G2x but then the SGS II looks pretty good. Yet its still going to be a while before the SGS II is released, so yeah the G2x. I sure do like the G2x i'll wait maybe a month after the release to see who the developers are on it and if it gets rooted.
I think it was androidcentral where i saw that thay have it rooted already. Also with CWM recovery. So no need to worry bout' that.
Edit: its the optimus 2x but same phone.

Yeah wait for the LG 2X (G2X) because Paul from MoDaCo has gotten it rooted, CWM Recovery and there are custom roms. Plus djmcnz from the Nexus One forums has one and he makes great ROMs IMHO. The atrix doesn't and won't have advanced dev support thanks to Motorola.

thanks for advice will probably wait for g2x
Ive heard bad reviews on the atrix, I would wait for the g2x I have played with it alot, its really nice and I plan on getting me one. Graphics are great, 3d graphics (w/ glasses of course) it even has a mini hdmi port. There is another vibrant coming out as well the vibrant s2.

Torn about the Photon...

Well, I FINALLY ditched my Heroc and bought a NS4g on sunday and I'm in love (aside from battery life :-/). Now I've been reading up on the Photon and holy crap! HW wise, it's freakin killer.
But...
I'm concerned about not having root for god knows how long (or CM7), the screen not looking as good as the NS and the camera not being as good. Am I being paranoid?
Looking for opinions and info on this.
ZANKS!
It'll probably be rooted release day. As far as CM7, not sure if you've heard of second init but its a way of running aosp over motos locked in kernels/bootloaders. The Droid X and Droid 2 now have CM7 thanks to second init. Its just a matter of whether a Dev takes the time to make it happen. Can't count on moto to unlock it so hacking will be the way.
Spec wise, the photon will be a beast. It has a pentile screen but its still very nice. If you want to get a feel for what the photon will be like, go to best buy and mess with an atrix. Almost same specs.
Sent from my Evo using XDA App
eh its not all its hyped up to be.. read some stuff about the tegra 2, my buddy has the atrix and its not this crazy super faster dual core
what kind of ram? ddr2?
Thanks for the input folks. Mikeyinid, I was unaware of second init but it sounds promising. IDK, I might just pick it up and try it out for ~2 weeks (I'm only gonna be 2 weeks in to my 30 days when it comes out). Also, I was told by sprint that you can cancel your plan, get a 100% refund and start a new plan to restart the 30 days the same day . So, I am gonna at least give it a shot...
Also, anyone have any suggestions about battery life? I wasn't happy with the batterytweak.sh and juice defender didn't really help that much. Wanted to work on UV but proton caused a reboot and setcpu doesn't have recommended settings.

Motorola has great build quality, but as stated already in this thread the tegra 2 is pretty bad. If you like the nexus, you should consider waiting for the samsung gs2 coming sometime later. (rumored for late August/early September for Sprint. It should have either the exynos could or the Mali gpu, both of which blown away the tegra 2. I'm holding out for that because it fully meets my requirements.
- dual core
- hdmi out
- super amoled plus
- best camera for phone on market
- comes with gingerbread
- (most likely) unlocked on release day.

If we're going to play the waiting game then you might as well wait for the Nexus 3. Dual cores don't mean anything if the phone's software OS isn't optimized to use dual core.
Ice Cream Sandwich + Nexus 3 = ?????????????

Good luck waiting on a carrier/manufacturer for updates. Knowing carriers playing the cat and mouse game with the manufacturers with Samsung. Oh boy you're going to regret it.

I don't see the Nexus Prime coming out anytime soon, seeing as the Nexus S is heading towards AT&T. One can hope, but it just seems like the SGS2 is a better choice purely dependent on the release date. (within the next two months).

^^ THIS.. Never buying a non Nexus phone again. Poor Epic owners were supposed to have Gingerbread months and months ago. To this day they have no official release builds but just constantly get conveniently leaked development builds of Gingerbread instead. The Froyo release for the Epic was ridiculously late by months and months. The snails pace and constant ridiculously long delays of promised updates drove me away from phones that depended on Samsung to update them.

Who ever said Nexus prime? This is all rumors. But it will be guaranteed by later this year during the holiday season there will be a flagship phone for Ice Cream Sandwich by Google.

Nexus S2

Who knows? The one thing thats absolute is definitely a new Nexus phone coming out later this year.

I mean don't get me wrong. You have a excellent point about the Samsung Galaxy S2, it looks amazing in terms of hardware. But I think what's really going to cripple it is software updates. Samsung is really good with updates internationally in Europe but I don't know if it's Samsung Mobile USA or if its the carriers. And honestly, I really don't care what the deal is between them two but I want my updates asap.
Nexus One released on January 5,2010.
Nexus S released on December 16, 2010.
Google likes to have a flagship phone for their newest Android OS. It'll most likely be Nexus 3 that gets it first followed by Nexus S and then followed by Nexus One (if it's that lucky but I have good hopes that it will get it.. probably)
And yeah, I know.. people may try and counter me by saying Oh we have CyanogenMod and all that. Well guess what Cyanogenmod can't do. Make a kernel for for that Android X and you're stuck using stock or whatever the deal is. Development will be very limited. And I had a Samsung vibrant and honestly... there are a lot more ROMs for vibrant than Nexus S I'll admit that. But under the hood, they're all the same and mainly built off TouchWiz. That's my interpretation of the Vibrant forums 7 months ago. I don't know how it is today but most of the ROMs are just themed. Nothing is really ever implemented as features.

When I returned the Evo 3D, the store charged me $35 for restocking fee. Later I chatted with a rep online and she told me there's no restocking fee if you are not exchanging the phone but completely returning it.
I emailed Sprint a copy of the restocking fee receipt and $35 was credited to my Sprint account (only reason I had to do that was b/c the store charged my credit card the fee and did not put it on my account).

The ONLY reason I'm considering this is because i'm within my 30 days. I can't afford to shell out $700 for another phone in 6 months, so this is a good opportunity for me to have "the latest and greatest" (arguably)
At least you don't have to hack it in order to play tegra2 games lol. I wish it had the1900 mah battery like the atrix...

What are you waiting to upgrade for?

Are you happy with your phone still? Are you waiting for possibly a new LTE phone in 2012? Or just waiting on your upgrade?
Just curious to see what others thinking about their phone. My phone still works great, but being the geek I am. I'm itching for something new. The E4GT looks like a sweet phone, and supposedly there's a fix for the LOS that developers got their hands on.
Waiting for something that would be a real upgrade, so far I've been very happy with my evo, thanks to the devs here. Until sprint releases a LTE device that's killer spec wise, & has some decent development going on, I'll stay with my OG. I've had my evo since it came out, and its totally because the devs here keep my evo fresh & interesting.

Yeah my EVO is running strong still, and with the development of ICS. Maybe that'll hold me over? I can't say that if I saw another great deal on an ET4G that I won't pass it up lol. Just have to wait and see.... I wish we had an idea of phones for 2012 and estimates on release dates.

They already said the the first LTE phones wouldn't be out until around june / july. Though they will begin the towers in early 2012.
1. waiting for sense 2.1 = Got it
2. waiting for sense 3.0 = Got it
3. waiting for sense 3.5 = Got it
I guess I'm waiting for my contract to be up. Then I will consider something new, but I see no need right now for what I use the phone for. The next best thing isn't always the best IMO...

My upgrade isn't until August 2012. There should be a bunch of new phones released between now and then. The Galaxy Nexus and HTC Edge or other new quad core phones look intriguing, Iphone 5 (probably not I like the personalization options Android has). As long as we get an ICS rom it will feel like we're running the latest phone though, at least for now.
my upgrade isn't until March, so I'm sure a lot of new phones will be out by then. But if I had to pick right now, I'd either get the GS2 or leave Sprint for the Galaxy Nexus
i cant decideeeee, i dont know if i should get iphone or wait for early 2012 to upgrade
i do want GN not sure if sprint will take their time like they did with Nexus S
for now will keep the EVO going since we have great Devs... and recently swtiched prl to verizon and its working great/better so not sure why switch anyway
time will tell

My contract won't expire for about a year and my evo is still running nicely.
I will likely dabble with iOS and Win7 to test the waters once my evo is done for.

I would like another htc phone. Quad core, lots of internal storage and 64 gb card compatible(hopefully ). Some phones due out next year look pretty nice
We're comin from a pure power source.
I need to switch to verizon because I work in places where sprint's 3g service is junk, so as soon as the nexus is released, i'm gone.
An LTE phone (due next year). A quad core phone. Something with just a little more internal storage.

A real EVO 2 upgrade. Contract already up. But nothing so far surpasses EVO in pure beastly awesomeness!

I am happy with the photon as an upgrade. But rom dev is not as vast as the evo. Wife still has hers though so I get play both fields.

Honestly, it's going to take an awful lot for me to upgrade. There isn't really anything I want to do with a phone that I can't already do with my Evo.
Hardware Acceleration is going to make ICS run really well (even on older hardware), and I expect that the specs in the Evo will allow it to continue on just like a modern phone. Bluetooth, front-facing camera, etc. will continue to make it a contender.
I will be sticking with mine (not counting an accident) for at least another generation until Nexus Next is available, and then consider based on hardware and Android J+.
I would maybe go for that Nexus S (sexy thang). However, there aren't any phones offering me my Death Ray flashlight and kickstand, so...the Evo stays.
I do have 2 bright spots on my screen though, which is annoying.
Im due for upgrade on 2 evos around February. The only thing I really like is the samsung s2..
That phone will probably be 99 but the time end of Feb comes around..
Who knows though, I may just hang tight without a contract..
Waiting for my contract to end. Hopefully network will be working better by then.
