Zune says my phone is full while it isn't - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

So yeah. On the device, on the about screen, it says there are 300MB available as free space, but Zune says I have no free space left and doesn't allow me to get anything on the device. I'm using the HD2O ROM. Any help?

your sdcard not working.... sdcard must work, without dont have memory...

It surely is working, don't worry. The phone has no problem with the free space, it's just Zune which doesn't seem to like me.

not working if show only 300 mb....

It's not a new build; I had no problems getting music before on the device. To make myself sure, I deleted few games and I have 522MB of free space now and yet Zune still isn't capable of putting more music on the device. Tried reinstalling it, tried deleting the device twice, tried it on another PC - the problem is still persistent.

very true on only 300mb showing on the phone...suspicious. also did you see what the reserved space is showing in zune? the reserved space is adjustable. 300mb free space isn't a while lot depending on what you're trying to do.
also, are you dual booting with android and your wp7 partition wasn't set large enough to begin with and you've got a bunch of stuff on your phone taking up space you're not taking into account?
if zune is saying there is a space issue...then there is an interface issue with what your phone is reporting to zune. so there is an issue there with your phone.

As I said, the space is not an issue. Phone's reporting 522MB free space from 2.4GB total. And I stated before that I could put anything on my phone with no particular problems. There is also no reserved space set in Zune (it's 0%).
[edit]
Oh, I had to make 923MB free memory so Zune would tell me that I have 366. It's all screwed up, but oh, ok, let them be. Problem... solved. Phone and Tom's XAP deployer don't give a damn about the free space, only Zune cares about it so much... meh.

geez don't have an attitude with people trying to help. try increasing the reserved space moving the slider. peace out dude! i wash my hand of this.

I appreciate that you at least tried to help, I just can't stand being treated like an idiot who doesn't seem to see the obvious things. I'm not inexperienced too; when I know something should not be an issue, I tell it, and it turned out that the issue was not the amount of free space nor the SD card, just Zune or some inner ROM workings that told Zune I had nearly 500MB free space less.
So yeah. Don't feel guilty, just move on, another case solved.

low free space?

I have only 120mb of 180 for programs or similar on the device.
Is not very low? It have 512mb, maybe 200 for the rom or so, but 380 in use and only 120 for the user?
WWE ROM is around 280MB AFAIK. I don't know what language ROM you are using, but it definitely shouldn't use 380 MB. You should have slightly less than 200MB available.

Storage size to user is 181.6MB. However it looks like HTC install some apps that use some of this. I have only installed spb wireless monitor, resco explorer and a few other small bits and im down to 105MB
That's annoying. There are things that don't belong in ROM such as navigation software, or the silly Navipanel thingie, and some other stuff that can save around 20-30 megs in a custom ROM. Taking a brief look at the files, I can see how I can free up another 20 or 30 megs by removing other stuff without losing any functionality or the goodies. So custom ROMs will certainly improve things a bit without becoming "lite" or introducing bugs... However, it certainly sucks that they made such a device with such a small storage.
guys kick back, chill out and listen to your selves for a bit, you're complaining because you have over 100 mb of *storage space* left, that's not program memory that's unused wasted space you've paid for and aren't using! LOL
When you're down to 2mb then start worrying about it?
plus there's a 2GB microSD card in the box, not the usual 32 MB card you'd get with your latest 5 MP compact camera.
I ordered myself a 16 GB card to go along anyway. Where are those 32 GB microSD cards SanDisk anounced in spring 2008 anyways?

i had to hard reset my phone because the second day my memory was full
i couldn't install mobile shell 3.5
so, i think its an issue
I think this is an issue too.
I've only installed 1/2 the apps I had on my HD, and I've got just over 20MB left. I had shed-loads left on the HD, even after installing everything I want!
Don't want to start flashing ROMs on a brand new phone, but maybe a lite version is the way to go.
Just have to wait and see what the chefs cook up.

On my Touch HD I'm using around 180 megs of internal storage, and I don't store any documents, photos, videos or any other user files there, my SatNav app is on the storage card. So this is all taken by mail and apps.

In this case lite ROMs seem to be the only reasonable way to go. Like I said earlier, it's easy to free up some 50-60 megs (even more actually if we remove sample pictures, some ringtones etc.) without losing functionality, and keeping the ROM quite "full". SatNav just has nothing to do in internal memory when you have 512 megs of it, I don't know what they were thinking putting it there.
don't forget to change the cache in opera to your storage card as it is set to default on internal. Also of course use storage card for mail attachments.

phone memory full

strange problem with the phones memory being full
seems to be loading kb files on but takes up mb space, just loaded a 3.5kn file but took up 30 mb space
any help would be great
Full because you have probably installed every app onto the internal memory. Reinstall them onto the SD card.
While you are at it, read this thread for tips on how to maximise your memory space....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638

il explain a bit more. i dont have a HD2 im trying to sort this for a friend, i do have the touch pro 2 and i have never had to install apps on the SD card, i must have 30/40 apps on it (games TC resco etc ) and i still have loads of space
my memory reads
storage total 283mb used 166 free 117
program total 188 used 110 free 76
i have never got anywhwere near full
my mates HD2 is new and he has added very little in terms of apps(1 or 2 at the most ) but when i got to it today it only had about 35/40 mb free
i added the 4 short cut cab instead of the standard 3 short cut tabs and it used 30 mb of memory
something does seem right with this or is it that the HD2 short of memory

The HD2's shortness of memory is only relative. It still has 145MB free Storage after a hard reset, which is a huge increase on previous generations of WinMo phone before the HD, and TD models.
It is probable that users are inadvertantly storing photos and videos in main memory rather than the SD card. Add this to the effects of the Album and Browser caches and the memory can get filled up.
C-G: There is no way that a simple tweak installation would cause this problem. Either your friend has failed to notice something else, or there is some sort of major problem with the device, or somwe software he has installed.

theres no photos videos etc taking it up, i check all that i removed shazam that it saidd was 50 mb but only freed up about 5 mb

You are right, it does seem strange, and unrelated to other threads on this issue.
If you (or your friend) are really adventures you could give MTTY a go. It sort of formats the internal memory. After that flash a fresh (shipped) rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616422
Combat,
Its me again. In the thread I pointed you to it also tells you how to move the album and opera caches to storage card. Have you tried these tips?
If you do and you still have problems then backup the data on the device, do a hard reset, then on reboot, check the available memory and use that as a startpoint (compare it to the public specs to make sure you are there or thereabouts). Then reinstall all your apps onto the external storage card (not the internal memory) and see what happens.
Oh, one more thing before you do all this; install Showcase, which is a task manager, and see what programmes are running in the background that you thought were closed. These eat memory and can cause the symptoms you allude to.
Whatever you do, DON't go playing with MTTY. Its an advanced tool and you can do some serious damage if you don't know what you are doing.
I am confident that if you follow the steps here you will solve your problems.
If yo don't, return the device for an exchange.

As the others have said, there is something seriously wrong here
Shazam is actually less than 1MB in size, though saved tags may take some space.
If this is showing as 50MB and it isn't being recovered there is something drastically wrong.
still trying to sort this out yesterday my mate did a hard reset so he could start from scratch to add things and see how the memory goes

Tell him to stop messing around and return this as a faulty device
He's now had 2 major issues with different aspects of the phone- memory allocation and now camera problems.
It is likely that there is some sort of fault with the memory chip itself leading to internal memory errors. This may also explain the other hardware issues if the device is trying to load these services into an unaddressable memory location.
Hello, I am a newbie, but one frustrating factor I've been dealing with is that there is virtually no information on the "cheaper" tablets. I have a ZEEPAD I purchased from Amazon. It is a lot of fun for a VERY small price.
However, now I have a memory problem. After resetting the tablet, it shows that my internal memory is full, even though there are NO apps installed. I cannot install anything from the market; all installs fail because the tablet detects or thinks there is no memory available.
I have an old CRUZ tablet, and I can get into the program by holding down the + volume when pressing the power button, but that does not work with this tablet.
In the "info" section of the tablet, it states that this is a TWD_MID tablet, android 4.0.4. There has to be something I can try before I have to ship this back to China. Please be understanding of my "newbie" status.......
I have the same issue with mine! Weird, wonder what the deal is? I hope someone with some knowledge of this can help us because it is an fun tab especially for the price..

Phone Storage is getting low!

I'm running Myn's warm 2.2. The thing that really gets me is I have 41.94 mb available. I could fit dozens more apps.
Is there any way I can change when that stupid low memory thing go's off. I would like to change it to something more reasonable like 10mb.
Did you do a full wipe before flashing your rom....you should have way more space than that....
Sent from my rooted evo using the xda app....if I helped you, please click Thanks!
I did a full wipe when I flashed my rom like three weeks ago. It's low because of apps. It's just it seems like that annoying notifaction shouldn't op up when I have that much space
Im all stock and had the same problem after i got a furbed phone from sprint. Was werid, I actually DL 4 apps and then said the same thing and then deleted all of them and STILL said it!
I had the same problems on several roms I found most of the space was taken either by the address book storage, or calendar storage clearing that and let it re sync solved the problem. I would recommend also going with roms that have the delvik cache moved to the cache partition that gives you about 80 megs more space. A few of the developers out there have that tweak.
Tips to increase available storage aside, I really wish there was a way to turn the notification off or adjust the threshold. To me, 10% is too high. You can still do plenty with 41MB left.
Yeah, I got that the other day. I bought a Class 10 16 GB card so I can do apps2sd. *sigh*...too many apps.
running ava Z1 and i still have 231 MD free
Do a full wipe & manually restore everything, it'll do more than just a dalvik & cache wipe which only seems to free up a few MB of internal storage.
Tedious but a healthy habit.
I had the same issue....check out the thread

Just today when I updated my apps I got a bunch of insufficent space errors, with 40.89mb's free. Are there any apps that I can use to check how much space is left besides settings-sd+phone storage.

Why not download App2SD from the market place and move some of your apps to the SDCARD. This will free up space from your phone's internal storage.

Thanks for fixing the link! I'd actually read that before. My contact storage is a whopping 3.7 mb yours was 157mb. You fixed yours by chopping your contact storage by chopping your contact storage way down and switching completely to a apps2sd.
I don't really think that that is the solution, in your thread there was a guy running cm 6 that got down to 12mb left. I can't get down below 40mbs without getting insufficient space errors. It seems like there must be a setting wrong somewhere.
What I recently did was installed Dark tremors a2sd on my phone. It actually moves all your apps to sd and frees up so much memory. It's frickin awesome. First you have to partition your sd card if you haven't already. To do so you must first create a backup of your sd to your computer as prtitioning will wipe the sd. Also I only now how to partition the sd using Amon RA recovery, it's much easier than using clockwork. Partition up to ext3.
To find Dark Tremors flashable zip go here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...hlight=apps2sd
I'll tell you what, if you cant figure out the rest, PM me and I will give you my number to help walk you through it if you need. Good luck.
BTW, I'm also using Myn with about 95 apps and have 227mb left in my phone.
did you check out the app that lets you explore the "app usage" on your phone. It should help you figure out what is eating all the memory.
I think you are probably going the wrong direction in terms of just trying to lower the low space threshold or get rid of the warning. 40mb will dwindle further and further until it creates other issues, and there is TONS of space on the evo, you need to address the low space issue, not the notification.
Use that app and browse through your internal storage, if you cant figure out whats eating up your space i *highly* recommend you root and install darktremors a2sd. I hate messing with my phone and trying to do that kind of stuff and i really had no problems when i finally caved and did it, it was all pretty simple and the instructions are laid out well.

[Q] Insufficent Storage on small apps with 422 Mb avalible

My nexus 4 started giving me insufficient storage complaints today as a tried to load an app that I'm writing onto it from Android Studio. It reads as having 422 Mb available, but I can't even load DiskUsage (155 Kb) onto it to see if the data page in settings is wrong. Is it possible that when Android Studio loads a new debug instance of an app onto my phone it doesn't delete the old one? Or is it a glitch with 4.3 on my N4? Help!
the system needs there to be 500mb or so free at all times. this space is reserved for caches and such, so your device can function properly. at your point, i bet you arent even connecting to googles servers(gray bars instead of blue). uninstall some apps or clear some storage space, your choice.

Sounds like some of the apps you have moved to the microSD card have only partially moved their data. Perhaps if you go through each app which has a large amount of data and see exactly where its data is located you may get to the bottom of things. In the past i've noticed that some games that have a large amount of data only more a proportion of it to the MicroSD card (from memory i think NOVA might be like that).
