I could see that Sammy has decided to give official upgrade to ICS for customers in Germany... Any idea about when Indians will get their official upgrade to ICS?

As you're aware, it is Samsung who are supplying the ICS update, and not the XDA forums, hence Samsung are the people who will know if/when the update will be made available to India, and not the forum users - on the rare occassions that this information _is_ supplied by Samsung, it is even more rare that the information is reliable (i.e - almost never have their promised time-frames been met initially)

I know very well that only Samsung gives upgrades and not xda forums but the purpose of starting this thread was to share information(I think that is more important than just downloading others roms from here) as I believe that here on this forum apart from people who simply can answer that only Samsung can give upgrades there are people who know a little more about latest announcements from companies so that they update fellow forum users....Hope this reply makes itself clear.....
India update may come only via Kies and not OTA. I was earlier contemplating the german ICS, but I have waited so long, whats a few days more.
Once the XDA ICS builds are stable, I will move to a custom kernel.

Firstly u mentioned of starting this thread was to share information?? wat kinda info u wanna share when your thread topic is " [Q] "
U mean a question = sharing of information? i doubt so...
i had been browsing the forum and 8 out of 10 are indians from india asking abt ETA of ICS, when will India get ICS updates blah blah blah....
Like what u had mentioned only Samsung able to give upgrades (official) therefore when they do have any update FOR your country, do not worry coz lotsa helpful seniors in here will start a thread on it...
To Mod,
kindly close this thread coz i doubt it will b fruitful by continuing with this discussion...

No one here can give ETAs - and one rule on XDA is do not ask for ETAs.

Say goodbye to your phone because I bet you've got the wrong model fas it's probably the i9000G firmware as per the other thread(s) about it.
Why would you ask others to check it when;
a) You didn't give them a link
and
b) You're already flashing it?
There's 2.3.6 update for SII but AFAIK it's for at&t one..
but someone mentioned every SII got that..
update, found one.

Intratech,
Greetings.
I have been following your great topics and tips for a while. So I thank you.
But I am little disturbed by this comment. No, I am not pulling the race card because I think you are not a racist. While I can understand you may not be familiar with my culture and it is right that there are many garbage, copycats in many forums, you have discounted the good works like in here do exist in many Chinese forums. Moreover, xda also has got enough clueless posts too.
From my first hand experience, there are some smart guys just like you and others in xda would write up tutorials, guidelines, organize the releases/requests of features/workflow, customizing the ROMs for specific Chinese markets and users. Some even tag with a MD5 hash for authentication. There are also "just rooted" stock ROMs... I have been using those and never have a single bot, malware, rootkit, spyware detected.
I hope you and others would not label all Chinese enthusiasts and developers as bad apples. Peace.

Sorry, I didn't mean to brand all Chinese and Russians as being bad, I'm just talking about getting something from a forum I don't know about. Being as I work in IT who know a small amount the security aspect of it, it makes me inherently sceptical of software from people I don't know especially when it comes from China, Russia and Eastern Europe.
I'm sure there are lots of talented Chinese, Eastern European and Russian developers right here on XDA and once I know them I wouldn't have a problem using their work, if I haven't already, but I still wouldn't get anything from a Chinese or Eastern European forum.... forum not the race/people.
As for Racism, if anyone tries to accuse of it they will probably get laughed at by anyone who knows me. I'd have a hard time living in my family if I was racist as I'm pretty sure we have the whole racial spectrum covered.
Intratech,
Thank you for your prompt response that clarifies where you stand. Granted it is only fair for you or anyone not to just take whatever available online without further scruntizing. At least, in your context, I can now understand you are more about exercising a necessary precaution. Especially when you do not know what exactly you are dealing with. To be honest, I would have become a hypocrite if I just do the same with other ROMs specifically customized for other markets than mine.
I think that we can call it a matter of principle and personal preference when choosing the right combo for each of us.
Once again, I appreciate your reply.
All users on the latest i9100G are already using the 2.3.6 out of the box, so it is available for SGS2 except not for the i9100 yet. The G already has this but words is that the firmware running on the G has a capped of 1008mhz on the CPU.
The Galaxy S ++R.I.P.++ ?
As you all know, Samsung has decided to abandon one of it's most popular childs by not delivering the sacred last Android version to this device.
But this is not the end of the story for this great phone, because the community lives.
There are many valiant people out there that are investing a lot of their free time to bring us the taste of fresh, homemade Ice Cream Sandwich.
Some of them are developers, some of them support development and deployment by providing the required infrastructure, others are committed to "real" testing and many people simple take their time to patiently answer questions, some of which have already been asked hundreds of times before.
And some people simply don't read what is written in the OP of ICS threads (or the previous post(s)). They complain, moan, request, demand, whine, ... to a point where even the most motivated people of the first category start asking themselves if their efforts are worth it.
And then there are thousands of people who can read, who try to find solutions, who know all the secrets of search engines and one never hears of them.
Why, because maybe they have not enough time to help or the questions they could reply to have already been answered hundred of times and certainly most of them do not post in the threads unless they have something useful to say.
This thread is for you guys and girls. If you have already hit the 'thanks' button and if you already donated what you can afford and you still feel like communicating your gratitude without spamming or flooding the development threads, then this is the place to do so.
Any moaning, flaming, blaming, whining and other stupid comments will be reported immediately.
Thanks a lot for your cooperation.
Edit: rephrased the passage above, because there were some misunderstandings...
So I would like to say thank you to all the people I mentioned above.
Even though I am using Onecosmics wonderful ICS RC1 release, I do not forget people from other teams that are investing their free time in the development of ICS on the Galaxy S and related devices.
There is a lot of "parallel evolution" or "cross-species evolution" as biologists say, this means that the teams or individuals are taking inspiration from the solutions found by other teams and integrete the results of it into their own work.
I also want to say thank you to all the people involved in supporting the projects. I am unable to name all of them so if you helped supporting and deploying the releases, this Thanks is for you.

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_to_get_a_value_pack_update_instead_of_ics-news-3583.php
Some more recent news say that Samsung wont even grant us this.

Anyway, if one day Samsung will change its mind, then it will partially be due to the fluid ICS roms out there for SGS....

Agreed with donations and the thanks button.
Yet, some may feel that's insufficient and the need to just get a more personal thank you may come across. One specific thread helps with this and can't see harm in it.
I can see where this comes from so:
Thank you developers

Of course it's not kind from Samsung not to release ICS für the Galaxy S. No problem - next time i'll buy a phone from another manufacturer. The are a lot of.
Many thanks to the community, which brought us great things like the Lagfix, the possibility NOT to install TouchWiz and many other things i just don't remember.
Thanks.
I love ICS, I'm currently using S.U.R.F.A.C.E's version. I would like to thank all developers - teamhacksung onecosmic and all the others. I miss the old camera app and radio but I hope the open source community comes up with a solution soon.
Galaxy S is capable for ICS
Guys and Girls,
The first Galaxy S is working great on ICS. My self using Teamhacksung Build 12 now, started with build 10 and have just a few minor problems, but these problems are caused by the installed apps that cannot work fully on ICS yet. Hope that they will be upgraded soon.

You should consider that Samsung updated the phone for a long time, and gave it two major updates. I don't think there are many other companies who update longer than that. In fact, the only android devices that get really all the updates until they can't handle it anymore are the Google phones. And then you should ask yourself: do you really care SO much about getting updates all the time? If that is so, you are forced to buy a Google nexus.
Yes, it's sad that Samsung are not the angels that we thought they were. But anyone ranting that they'll never buy a Samsung phone again should get real. Really no offense, but Samsung is a company. And a company lives not only from happy customers. It lives from happy customers that buy their new products, and so they have to add exclusive features. And 2 years of updating is fair enough for me.

Dear El Aidge,

I must congratulate you on your realistic assessment of Samsung as a company. I do agree entirely with you.
But next time you post in this thread, may I kindly ask you to stay on topic? This tread is not about bashing nasty Samsung or whining.
My intention was to offer the Galaxy S ICS users a place where they can say thanks to the community without flooding dev threads and without being annoyed by people that feel the need to play teacher...
Have a nice day and enjoy your Galaxy on ICS.

You're in the wrong place, pal. If you really want an answer, you'll have to find a connection within Motorola... if they even have a hard date set. If you want to be taken seriously, take time to search and read before posting a question. You'd find dozens of threads on the topic in the xoom forums alone (unfortunately, since others choose not to searrch, too) and you'd quickly learn there is no answer to your question here.
You can have ICS on your xoom today if you want it, just not from Moto. Again, do some reading and research and you can determine whether available alternatives are right for you, or whether to wait for a not-yet-announced official update.
Nearly everyone here is helpful and will assist if you do your homework and still have questions... but you have to take yourself and your own questions seriously before you can expect anyone else to do so... or you can choose to be roasted.

first of all, I want to thank you for taking the time to write your answer.
I did searched(not in XDA, I searched on google) for the answer and found a lot of articles about the XOOM getting the ICS update but they all were very old so I thought that maybe Motorola released a date for the update and I didn't found an answer for that so I decided to ask here.

The problem is, and always will be - you can never set a solid release date for software upgrades when it comes to this 'chain' that the update must go through in order to be released to us.
From a manufacturer and carrier standpoint, they could never give even the slightest hint of a date for a software release until its imminently close. Reason being, there are so many variables and factors affecting a particular update. If they gave any sort of date other than "soon", then if they missed that date that everyone was expecting - customers would blow a gasket.
So essentially, from their standpoint, it is MUCH safer to keep from giving any sort of date of release.
Bottom Line: An official ICS update should be coming sometime soon. Speculation says the U.S. Wifi-only XOOM will be the first, and then others will soon follow. That is the most we know at this point.
So pull up a chair, grab a beer, and join the rest of us as we compulsively surf these android forums every day for the next piece of news to come forward.

I had some good guidance (some nice, some not so nice) when I first started using xda, so glad to pass it along. The best was not to start a new thread except as a last resort - most questions are already asked and answered somewhere, and if not there is a likely an existing thread/discussion in which the question fits. For the most part, xda members aren't jerks and are extremely helpful... but the frustration factor rises quickly when the same questions are asked and answered repeatedly. As you'll probably be told at some time, it is a developers forum not really a users forum... they've just chosen to let us in (because we help test what they're dev'ing).
One more suggestion - be more careful with your topic titles. I opened the thread to read assuming you were posting some official announcement... and would bet most others did, too. Be more clear with the title and you increase the odds that you'll get readers that can/will help.
BTW, I'm still getting used to the xda search function (a bit cumbersome, works best in my opinion searching within a subforum), and often prefer a Google search myself. If you add "xda" to your Google search terms, you'll often find what you need.

I understand your concern, the more they wait the less we can play with our toy until that other date (ya know, 23/12/2012)
I'll give you a real answer. No body knows.
It seems like the last few updates were dropped with no prior warning. I assume ICS will be a different situation and they would at least give a little heads up (or so I would hope.) If you have a 4G VZW XOOM, expect to wait another month so Verizon can tinker around with it first.
Or, if you want it now, just go to the dev section and flash the wonderful EOS ROM. It takes all of 15 minutes to do if you're already rooted. In fact, I spent more time downloading the files than I did actually flashing the recovery and the ROM + a few bits and pieces that make it work. It's well worth it.
Hope this answers your question.
After getting dragged along month-to-month waiting for an official Android update with previous devices, I've come to the personal conclusion that I'll never wait for an official Android update ever again. The custom ROMs from these forums are always better and are always available far in advance of any official release.
You may want to give this a try. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400958&page=82
Team EOS (formerly Team Tiamat) has proved to be one of the elite Android dev teams in my opinion and are worth following because they always have something new to try out.
Typically, the update will come in waves and there will be a leak to the blogs a few days before...
Kudos to the people who took the OP and his question seriously. There's no justification for being a d*** to someone who probably isn't familiar with all of the ins and outs of XDA. Come on now...
Anyway, you can watch paint dry in way less time than a carrier or OEM will deliver an official Android version update to their devices (assuming you're using something other than a Nexus device) so custom ROMs are definitely the way to go. It is not uncommon for devs here to release official ROMs before the carriers/OEMs LOL! To that end, check out one of the ICS ROMs from Team EOS in the Xoom development section. Root your Xoom if you haven't done so already, flash one of their ICS ROMs and enjoy . The devs here on XDA are good for releasing ROMs and updates in a timely manner.
By not informing us many people are bricking their phone and causing frustration and indirectly encouraging us to route our phones.
How come (I admit i could be wrong on this so dont have a go at me )but spelled seem to update worldwide on one or two days
Surely they employ eneugh staff to thoroughly test the software and than they could ask for beta testers. But this way is rediculus specially in view that pics has been out for months. Your thoughts
