It seems that android has come to an end for the HD2. There hasn't been major updates in a long time. Not just NAND but lets say the Light sensor hasn't been fixed in any clean froyo builds or random freezes and crashes. In regards to NAND, there hasn't been much activity going on with porting it. I wonder y? could it be that the project just got too old and boring or is it because windows phone 7? in any case it seems to me that this project is slowly coming to an end and only a few chefs are starting to realize it (shubCRAFT, Hyperdroid) are no longer supported (which is due to personal reasons too) i understand that. Im not angry or venting just confirming it. should I sell my [email protected] to get a My touch 4g or a g2? at this point it seems better than waiting for android to work.
I am not trying to anger anyone I just wanted to hear some thoughts.
Im using MDJ FroYo Sense Clean and its stable, fast and the battery drainage is really ok, so i dont think "android for hd2 comes to an end", but "android for hd2 becomes nearly perfect". Sure WP7 is here, so xda-chefs are working for first ROM for HD2 , but i don't think Android-Development is stopped completely
I don't think it will be at an end for years.... but they have done most of the major stuff they can do. I dont think nand is really working as well as they hoped it would... it sounds like it may be slower than sd card. They're still working on it, though. Bugs will continue to be worked on, too.
What more did you expect out of a port? They've done an amazing job. You can't expect it to be as stable and smooth as a native android phone. I always said if you want to use android full-time, you're better off with a native android phone. But what other phone can run winmo and android this well. And its the best winmo phone out there. And there's a possibility of running meego and wp7. Its gonna be my phone of choice for a long time still.

Very well said. I will never sell this phone for the mere fact that I can dual boot and the GPS on this thing is amazing. Way better than my Samsung Captivate.

Android on the hd2 is already better than I ever expected it to be, so I'm happy. I use winmo when I need the phone to be stable and for certain apps... then when I'm playing around or want to use certain android apps I can boot into android in less than a minute. What more could I want. If they were still developing winmo phones, I'd still buy winmo phones... most new winmo phones eventually run android good enough to use any apps you want to use.
People who say the hd2 runs android better than native android phones always compare it to android phones still running stock roms without tweaks. If you tweak and customize a native android phone, it runs way better than a hd2 ever will... that's why if I wanted android full-time I'd get a native phone.
But I love the many options and possibilities the hd2 offers... and I still like winmo and the way I can customize it. Android runs good enough for me on it.... and you can't run winmo on an android phone.

I fully agree with you. But I'm tired from winmo. I want to feel something new. Something undiscovered for me. Its something like a new car. But I've already bought hd2 and i don't want another phone. I just want android without Linux. I just want a fully based android for my phone.. so, can i get it anywhere?
Sorry for my bad English.

I think it'll be a big mistake to sell your HD2. It is probably be the best and most versatile Windows Mobile device ever built. One device able to run Windows Mobile, Android and very soon Windows Phone 7.
I'm currently been using Mdeejay Evosense 2.3 with hastarin kernel 7.8 and the latest pop wrapper currently being tested. For me android is 99% perfect and I've not had to boot back to Windows mobile in more than 2 weeks. The thing with these android builds is that you've got to try several till you find one which works for you. I tried 7 different builds before finding my current one.
However, we are all different and so you have to decide for yourself. If you feel you can't handle the various issues that are still being worked the, the maybe you should sell your HD2 and get a native android. I personally won't do that.

oh come on guys. Gingerbread is right around the corner. That will boost interest again. I started with the G1. Interest in it didn't die until i got the HD2. The main reason i got the HD2 is because the G1 couldn't run 2.2 very well. That has been a few months now and I'm sure they got things running well on it. Seriously and they said that the G1 wouldn't run 2.1!! The difference between G1 and HD2 TONS! I honestly dont think there will be anything that android releases that the HD2 wont be able to run.
Granted they have slowed down big time with the releases of android OS but thats a good thing. They were launching stuff so quickly it didn't give the devs time to make stuff rock solid.
I read today that the nexus 1 dev phones will have 2.3 (gingerbread) pushed to them next week! I'm ready bring it on! I know the devs here will tackle it asap.
I fail to see how it is anywhere near the end of the road. Android as it stands now is more stable for me than WinMo ever was. The only slight detractor is battery life which is still not bad at all, I get 20-22 hours straight out of my battery which is only slightly worse than I get with WinMo (about 26 hours).
The reason there's little in the way of amazing, groundbreaking advances in Android is because there's very little left to do. The latest kernels are fantastic, battery life has improved greatly, reliability is amazing now, there's very little left that doesn't work or breaks. I cannot remember the last time I've had a force close, screen of death or anything else terminal, and I no longer boot into windows at all.
Most of the chefs and devs here have things called "personal lives" that require time, and while there's little left to do they are spending time concentrating on themselves. Give it a few weeks/months until gingerbread comes along and the scene will pick up again. In the mean time feel free to get hold of the tools yourself and see what you can do?
If your Android doesn't work properly when I personally have installed Android on about 8 Hd2's for myself and my friends and they never have any complaints then you should investigate why, not give up and sell your phone. That's half the challenge!
I have been watching the WP7 threads for a little while now and have noticed that there doesn't seen to be much activity in there.
I was wondering if WP7 isn't very popular among the community. For me, I love it. I think M$ has done pretty good with this one, and DFT have done even better, Thanks guys. Also thanks to the chefs too.
So I guess I am wondering what OS the community are using.
Android
WP7
Win Mob 6.5
Meego
I'm using the android .

I'd probably use the Android way more if i could figure out a couple things i'm still cofused about.

ANDROID 2.3.3 the BEST OS i am using it on my HD2
WP7 mainly, occasionally dip into Android on my SD, starting to think I may just use WP7 when the nodo comes out, beginning to get thoughts why do I need my hd2 when all I use is WP7.
Android is just to messy, not a single keyboard on android comes anywhere close to the Standard WP7 one, Android is becoming fragmented with now the tegra seperate apps, the seperate Expedia play ones also, this is where iPhone and WP7 will prevail. I know its difficult for this to not frament over time with new technologies but to have so many different speced Android devices available at the same time, that run different games and compatibility in my mind is a mess and I am starting to dislike where Android is heading.

Android Ginger 2.3.2
Thanks for the replies so far guys.
I can't understand why WP7 isn't as popular as WinMob 6.5 according to the poll at this moment in time. I have been using it as my full time OS since getting my phone back from repair 2 weeks ago. I only get the occasional lockup (albeit for a second or too) and the odd app might not work (i.e. Messenger) but overall, I am very happy with it. Considering too, the amount of bugs that had to be ironed out when Android was ported, it's bloody marvellous.
Hi i am soon to get HTC HD2. On phone is factory WM6.5. My question is next :
Should I stay on WM 6.5 or switch to android ? If u suggest switch to android can u suggest NAND ROM with sense and everything working? Will I have some problems if i flash android(like camera problems,fm radio etc)
Be specific as much as u can. Thanks

*sigh* search the forums for exactly the same question(s) asked billions of times over.
Swtich to Android
First try it out on SD, find a ROM you like
Flash a NAND ROM using this guide
You will not have any issues.
I like android better but it can be frustrating because every Rom seems to have some kind of issue, so you have to settle for something less than the perfect.

And you still haven't learned the concept of reading have you? I said there won't be any issues (none that are significant) and if there are any issues it will be listed in the OP of the ROM.
Even though android ROMs by our developers are not perfect and have small issues, from my experience I can say that WM has MUCH more issues than any android ROM out here.

depends on u'r primary use of the phone. from my personal experience (mind it, PERSONAL experience):
1. WM6.5 will give u better battery life. and it's an amazing os in terms of ability to customize. but the default os feels obsolete.
2. to me, why live with just one when u can have both? SD android is my preference. in fact, after a bit of tweak which u will learn eventually, none of the nand android that i've tried or those on my my frnds devices runs better or smoother than my SD build (with MGLDR). and that includes even desire HD.
3. have u tried WP7.5? unless battery life is extremely important for u, WP7 and SD android with MAGLDR is the best combo, in my opinion.
WP7 is still at its initial stage and thus have limitations that will get fixed in time. having android side by side can help overcome those issues.
it's really a matter of personal preference.
welcome to the amazing world of HD2. really the king.
I am getting better battery life on NAND than I was getting with WM6.5
Just my experience.
However, android turns this phone into something many steps higher.
Unsolvable problems I had on WM took about 1 min to solve in android.
Really, the difference is unbelievable.
I switched to Android
The month I made my last payment to T-Mobile for my unlocked HTC HD2, Microsoft dropped support for WM 6.5 and closed the marketplace. Aloqa (one of my favorites stopped working, and it became obvious that I was on my own.
A quick check showed that iPhones don't run on T-mobile, and I no longer trusted Microsoft, so I started researching Android phones. Surprise! The best value Android phone was the one I already had: my HTC HD2!
My initial concern was the interface between my phone and Outlook on my desk top. That had been the principal reason I went with Windows Mobile in the first place. I run my own mail server and had no intention of turning everything over to Google's cloud. It looked like there were several solutions available so I got started.
My first step was to install an SD version on my SD Card. I chose a ROM with HTC Sense in it because it seemed closer to my WM6.5 experience. It proved that my phone could run Android. I tried using HTC Synch to manage my contacts and calendar. It never quite worked so I switched to Android-Synch and I'm happy with that.
I soon became aware that there were two main problems with my choice of ROM:
Performance: There was significant lag in responding to events.
Storage Space: There wasn't much room left for installing Apps.
So I decided to dump WM 6.5 and flash my ROM with native Android. I decided against Sense for space reasons and chose LEO HD ICCMS in order to get the latest UI. With a few minor glitches it has worked very well for me. Here are my observations in no particular order:
The App Market is far richer than what we had on Windows Mobile!
Widgets allow you to prsonalize the pages of the home screen.
Non-gmail operation is the major departure from common Android usage. Android-Sync created accounts not linked to the cloud. K-9 mail handles my IMAP account just fine.
Apps are cheap. They sell by the million for just a few bucks.
The best widget for calendar and mail for me is Executive Assistant.
With no ROM permanently on my 16 GB SD card, I have room for tons of music. Power Amp is my player.
I do a lot of photography. HDRCam and Quickpic turn my phone into a serious tool.
I had been using OneNote Mobile. It is replaced by Mobile Noter.
Bottom line: for less then $100 in apps I ended up with a phone far superior to what I had with WM 6.5. It should last me until I can't live without 4G radio, the one new piece of hardware I'm missing.
Yes Correct, It does give a better Battery life but in General , some little ignorable glitches with seasoned NAND roms is better than fully functional WM 6.5, I flashed the mwakiousROM® 0.23.1 yesterday ( my second flash in two days after 1.5 years of WM 6.5) and the results are great !
Hi,
Which is more stable, Android ROMS or WP7 ROMS? and please which Rom is the best in case if Android or WP7?

I am running American Android on my SD card and the Back to the Future WP7 rom on nand. I am a big fan of the WP7 interface and performance (it feels super smooth), but am using Android on a day-to-day basis, mainly because I live in fear of hard button failure (my HD2 is second hand and I live in hope it was treated nicely). Not being able to back up SMSs on WP7 also upsets me. However, even If these cons were sorted out, I still think I would run Android (and am seriously considering a nand install of it) because of the (perceived) freedom it provides - yes, WP7 has a lovely interface, but my super-geeky Tron-themed ADW launcher makes me happy every time I use it - and because the apps are cheaper.
If you have an HD2, I'd say you owe it to yourself to have a go dual booting WP7 and Android - play around and see which one you prefer. Also, very rarely, you may even be able to impress someone with the whole novelty of dual booting two competing OSs on the same device (this has happened to me once, the conclusion was that I was a massive geek - I am happy with this).
Android is better for more apps.

Ive been testing and using alot of roms to see which rom is the best.
The best one ive used so far is Hyperdroid cm7 5.5.0 with Tytung_R14 kernel! no problems at all!
i think andriod is a good choice now.
Android is the best, try "Tytung"'s one Nand*
it's the best one

Hello everyone, I just recently lost my phone and im officially back on the market for a new smartphone. I was wondering what everyone thinks about the HTC HD2. I haven't seen any good reviews on youtube--at least not specifically running on Android... Can anyone give me some input?
HTC HD2 originally runs on Windows (which im not used to) but it seems pretty similar to android according to some youtube videos [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neQ_iFf4s2Y]
So what do you guys think? If I do get the HD2.. should I flash it to ICS? Jellybean? Gingerbread? Or just stick with the windows? And if I do flash it.. does it compromise the speed?
Thank you for your help!

Depending of the price you are going to buy one, this is still the greatest phone made by HTC.
You can flash whatever rom you want, ICS and JB run smooth.
The HD2 is THE allrounder smartphone ever made
Great Hardware and open for multple Operating System
You should flash android anyway
There are very good ICS and JB roms out there
I for myself sticked to GB roms (MIUI GB Version most of the time i had one) because the camera was running much better
then in the ICS or JB roms and that never got fixed.
Its a great phone
Here in Hamburg / Germany the phone cost between 120€ and 200 € depending on its condition
Hope that helps you

The HD2 supports a wide variety of operating systems: Windows Mobile 6.5, Windows Phone 7, all versions of Android, Ubuntu, Maemo... If you like wasting time flashing your phone, then the HD2 is definitely the best choice.
The most stable Android builds so far are still the Gingerbread ones, but JB is not bad either. Developer interest for the HD2 is slowly decreasing, but there are still a few builds out there that get regular updates.

if you are capable of a slightly-more-technical-than-most-phones flashing process, and want a technical toy with roms and options and possibilities that may or may not be running 100% correctly, may have a glitch or two here and there, but gives you as much freedom as you can cope with, then get a HD2.
As to what you should flash, , flash everything, if you like a rom, use it, if you don't, change it.
If you want a 100% android phone and are only interested in maybe skinning up a rom, changing icons, installing apps, then get an android phone.
The HD2 has great xda support, it really is one of the best. However, I would not consider the HD2 unless you could get it for really cheap
HD2 Pros
Great xda support with tons of different OS
No really, I will only buy Nexus phones now because i was spoiled on how great the support was for the HD2... It seemed no other phones reached the level of HD2 (for andriod)
HD2 Cons:
Hardware buttons do not last very long (~year) and I much prefer software/touch buttons.
Outdated hardware. EX: Galaxy Nexus is much faster/refined
Other issues that may or may not have been fixed since i last used the HD2:
Corrupt blocks causing random crashes
Bad Multi-touch (sucks for games)
Battery life kinda sucked
