Browser slow to render while zooming out - Galaxy S III General

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8R0098PvvM&feature=youtube_gdata_player
at 14:15+ you can clearly see new way of how stock Browser handles zoomouts, why does it show blank page and needs one sec to rerender everything? It wasn't like that even on SGS1 GB firmwares with hw acceleration (JVQ+ I think).
It looks like Samsung left their way of rendering and implemented Google ICS way which in my opinion is worse.

The browser behaves in the exact same way on the SGS2 on ICS. The browser was a lot better on GB.

i can see what you mean, but its hardly even a second, this guy is basically raping this browser and its handling it amazingly !
well done gs3 lol

Agreed - I was actually quite impressed watching him torture the browser.

it's because GOOGLE made ****ty browser rendering on ICS when u zoom in or out the text become blurry then after like 0.3 second it rerender the text and become normal and the page some time become white on zooming in and out and the problem still on 4.04 what a shame on google

I wish this guy could show some PROPER scrolling in the video he's just swiping around like a maniac. I hope they put back the "sticky" scrolling, in ICS on the SII the browser doesnt stick to textboxes and such anymore it's kinda freeflowing wich is horrible, It ruins the browsing experience.. This video is not very good in telling if it's back to normal, only a few times it looks like it is..

HTC Desire browser vs. stock Android speed

Has anyone who has tried the Desire browser noticed that the loading speeds are much much much quicker than the stock Android?
I used KingK's Desire2Nexus for 1 day. Now I'm on CM 5.0.4 default. Loading up XDA on CM/default browser seems like there's a hang around the middle of the loading, and also 3/4 of the way there. On KingK, the loading speed was blazing going page to page. There was absolutely no hang at all.
Anyone else notice this?
Is it possible to use this browser without rooting?

Nope...it's tied into the HTC framework. For what it's worth, the stock browser has improved quite a bit from Android 1.5 even... the Hero browser was way nicer at that time. The difference now is negligible to be honest.

I had the exact opposite experience, lol.
I too noticed a big boost in speed with the Desire browsr.
Maybe some of you rooted peeps can post a comparison on Youtube. Just make sure to clear the cache before recording, lol... Don't need another Engadget-type video.
To me it seems faster, also has more features like the long press on any word and it will give u options for copy, translate, Wikipedia, and dictionary.
Can't say I have felt a noticeable difference in speed, though I enjoy the extra features of the HTC browser. Worth noting, though, that it doesn't let you open as many windows as the stock one.
No No No No Noooo LOL
The Desire browser sucks in my testing
Multi touch pinch and zoom is a big let down, it jumps around the screen and is just terrible
Also most pages i normally visit on a day to day basis just stop loading at the http part of the bar :|
Also in my experience is closed itself all the time, just like ended :|
But hey thats just in my experience lol
It doesn't "jump around the screen" as such. The text just gets readjusted to fit into your screen properly the way it does on the stock browser when you double-tap.
I've noticed that I'm less accurate in choosing links on the Desire browser. But it's an alpha, so not that surprising.
My biggest issue with the N1 in general is touchscreen accuracy; I really hope it's gradually fixed in software.
ive noticed it too! Actually ive noticed almost everything to be faster on the desire rom..(im using kings)..and the flash player is awsome..it works for everything but hulu for me..and the pinch zoom works perfect for me too..i remember their use to be a stutter compared to the iphone, but then i went to the apple store yesterday and compared my nexus running on desire rom with the 3gs and the nexus seemed much more fluid

Smooth Scrolling?

Is there anything that will take care of that sudden jerk when you start to scroll in the browser? It's very annoying. It's been improved over the stock ROM using other ROMs, but it's still there. When you start to scroll...it snaps/jerks before getting smooth. Yeah, yeah...I know...we have a SNAPdragon processor... LOL...but hope you know what I mean. Seems to only be happening in the browser, stock/dolphin.
Mine seems very smooth in Dolphin, Im not sure what youre refering to exactly. Is there a video or anything that shows what you mean?
mines smooth as can be as well.
Mines smooth with no snap at first...
Agree with the above people. Can you post a video? Mine's just fine.
Only video camera I currently have is on the Nexus. Sorry. But, you really only notice it, I guess, when you do a slight scroll. It's very minute, but...ah...must just be an OCD of mine.
I think I know what you mean. You scroll and its late to react so it jumps ahead. This is something I only noticed after using another device ( that I wont address by name because it hurts peoples feelings around here )which scrolls a lot smoother. And its not just the browser its all scrolling. But again, if I hadn't used the "other" phone first I wouldn't even notice it.
If you are comparing to the iPhone, this is just because the Android browser isn't optimized as much. It has the GPU power to do it, but you can have a computer chiptset in there and it won't run smooth unless the software is further optimized which I'm sure Android is working on...or hope...

Man...hope they get it done soon! Or, hope a dev is working on something to get it to 100% perfection...or at least 99%....I think it's at about 96-97 right now. LoL
Yep, the iPhone has much smoother scrolling(there, i said it.), i did a direct comparison in google maps between the n1 and my dad's old ipod touch. The touch movement is far smoother and feels more real, as real as a scrolling image on a screen can be i suppose.

Yeah I agree, android is young but google will take care of the shortcomings. Just have to be patient
I can't believe anyone even noticed this!
I've had my nexus one for near 2 months now (and an iphone before that), and I've never noticed this 'problem' until I looked carefully after reading this thread!

jaggy browser experience?

So I was really looking forward to getting a galaxy tab, primarily for web browsing. Then I saw this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZvCXMARtl0
What is the deal with the stuttering jaggy web browsing experience? Can someone that has a tab let me know if a third party browser can make browsing a little less, bleh?
The Galaxy Tab has Flash running in on the webpage.
Look at 0:08 on the video, you can see on the iPad that there are two bars marked "FLASH" disabled. It's suppose to have the banner for "HTC" on it.
Yeah, flash is SERIOUSLY CPU heavy. In fact that's how apple justifies not using it on any of its mobile devices. On closer inspection, there's more than just two 'FLASH' bars on the iPad, I count at least 4.
If you want it to good THAT fast then turn flash off.
On the other hand, do you look at websites by pinging back and forth on them so fast you can't read the text ? Personally, I scroll slowly down, and only move quickly infrequently when I want to 'go to top' or 'go to bottom'. If you actually read websites, the video doesn't really show off a whole lot. Its not comparing like with like, and its not comparing a real life situation, so it doesn't matter.
I have the tab. Some sites with flash will run just fine.
Others will simply cause the browser to be unusable. I have no explanation to this.
I compare a site that is unusable on the tab with my Droid x and on the droidx the site runs just fine with flash enabled.
Maybe. This is a software issue which is unrelated to flash and can be fixed in a future firmware update.

Quote possibly. Samsung have been slow to release Froyo for the galaxy, so maybe the flash thing isn't just the Tab, its the architecture. Maybe they can't get the hummingbird GFX to accelerate properly.
I have a Tab since 1 week and yes...the browsing experience is really awful. it's a pain...it's slow in loading pages and VERY jaggy in scrolling.
If I think that it should be one of the best features on the Tab I'm very sad and I really hope that it will be fixed (ad least improved) soon in future releases!
By now I just can't leave my ipad for internet browsing.
It looks like both the SGS and the Tab are suffering from the same issue with the browser.
Samsung will have no choice but to fix this.
Dolphin and Opera
Yes browsing with stock browser is really slow and jaggy. I've installed Opera mini and Dolphin. I use Opera for casual browsing (ie xda) and it's really smooth. When I need flash, or for "difficult sites" or if I have to download with rapidhare etc I use Dolphin (which is almost smooth).
Thank you all for your honest opinions.

Dolphin uses the same core lib as the stock browser so it should run the same as stock in terms of speed.

Didnt know. In practice it's really smoother though!
The webkit browser has a really annoying renderer in general. I dont understand why it needs to lower picture quality whenever you move the image around.
Just look at the way opera mini does it - much faster and better looking! Sadly its buggy and lacking in features, which is why im still using webkit.
Dolphin HD is slightly better (if only because it semi-blocks flash content by default), but it has some annoying ui elements like the giant tab bar, which can be removed but at the cost of being able to click on objects along the top edge of the display.
Ive also tried the ARM7 version of the mozilla fennec nighly builds. It just force closed on me, not even a little looksee
For me Dolphin HD is much smoother beside the fact it doesn't show flash banners where stock one does.
Both of them have been a disappointment WRT flash support.
It isn't that great for sites i visit.
If I open a new tap, I need to zoom in and out to get a picture
is this normal?
No, mine loads fine immediatley.

[Q] Any custom rom's addressing keypress lag?

Softkeyboard or dock, the delay is killing me.
Its a bug i tried stock and prime v1.4 are the same, still cant type in browser, maxthon...
Opera mobile is normal.
The Samsung 10.1 has the same problem (actually worse IMO). Seems to be a Honeycomb issue.

Seems to be a stock browser issue, actually. As others have reported, Opera works fine because it was built from a completely different browser engine.
I found that the lag in the stock browser is minimal if you disable plugins.
Typing lag and potrait frame rate drop; are the biggest reasons why iPad is winning tablet race. U might not think those 2 things are huge issue but have someone who plays with the iPad and give android tab a try will be turned off by this. I know because my brother put down my xformer noticing so much lag and went back to his fluid iPad. Sucks I hope it gets resolved soon
the keyboard lag while typing in the browser is from the browser autocomplete / autosearch. This doesn't make it OK I know. But if you can turn it off (or a rom can turn it off) it should help.
What people are saying about portrait fps I don't know. Scrolling and zooming in the browser and gallery for example go butter smooth whatever my orientation is.

not to make fun or anything, but u might not have the eyes to notice a frame drop in portate mode, but its def no where near as smooth as landscape
Since this is (was?) The dev forum I was only giving facts, to help find the source. It's not apparent in every app and or every device. Bb

Well, that and Apple has been in the market almost 2 years. And they advertise at least once on every prime time show I watch.
Anyway, really happy with my Transformer. I'm impressed with how well the apps. work. EVERYTHING WORKS. It may even be better than my Vibrant. Skype and Netflix are my only two issues? Where are you?
I have another tablet (Elocity A7). Same CPU (Froyo), no browser lag. Incredibly snappy. Anyway, the transformer is a huge setup in quality. 3.1 is awesome so far (after a little getting used to).
Generally the browser freakin' awesome. Everything works (except the click lag issue). Something is definitely up with that. I also miss the click highlighting from Froyo.
O wow I've spent a while trying to sort out this issue, glad its not only me!
The lag is pathetic, this is the only thing left letting me down now. I cant believe this is happening with this great tablet!! Google need to sort this out with up-most priority!!
NOW!
Maybe some1 should try to downgrade it to 2.3.3 to reduce the bug in 3.1 )

Hey chatch, just a friendly suggestion. You should go out and buy a camera leg stand. Will cost about $5. I used to make my vids while holding my camera, too. Then I discovered the leg stand.
Not bad.
The browser is impressively fast. I assumed GB's was slow because it's tethered.
Browser seems vastly improved. Is there still typing lag?
wow... So glad you decided to switch hands on the second video! Is hardware acceleration there? Or is the browser just that fast?
idk man the subject says i'm a noob. i'm already back on honeycomb. got prime to boot
it is fast as hell though. i can't wait till asus releases the real update so the devs can have at it.
but yes i think it does have hardware accel although flash is broken
I notice browser links highlight now when you press them. I just wanted to make sure, currently on Honeycomb, do browser links highlight for you guys when you press them? This drives me insane that they do not on my tablet.
not in the stock browser. in opera they do
It looks impressively smoth... WOW. Isto liked the small detail of the camera on the lock screen?
how does this work should i flash it?
Hey chatch the browser does look good, and quite an improvement. I usually use stock or Opera. Opera sometimes is slower to load pages, in ICS should I expect to see an improvement in Opera?
Thanks
Bit of a review...

I'm glad they improved the stock browser. It's one of my more favorite stock browser's out there.
