Hey chatch, just a friendly suggestion. You should go out and buy a camera leg stand. Will cost about $5. I used to make my vids while holding my camera, too. Then I discovered the leg stand.

Not bad.
The browser is impressively fast. I assumed GB's was slow because it's tethered.

Browser seems vastly improved. Is there still typing lag?

wow... So glad you decided to switch hands on the second video! Is hardware acceleration there? Or is the browser just that fast?

idk man the subject says i'm a noob. i'm already back on honeycomb. got prime to boot
it is fast as hell though. i can't wait till asus releases the real update so the devs can have at it.
but yes i think it does have hardware accel although flash is broken

I notice browser links highlight now when you press them. I just wanted to make sure, currently on Honeycomb, do browser links highlight for you guys when you press them? This drives me insane that they do not on my tablet.

not in the stock browser. in opera they do

It looks impressively smoth... WOW. Isto liked the small detail of the camera on the lock screen?

how does this work should i flash it?

Hey chatch the browser does look good, and quite an improvement. I usually use stock or Opera. Opera sometimes is slower to load pages, in ICS should I expect to see an improvement in Opera?
Thanks

I'm glad they improved the stock browser. It's one of my more favorite stock browser's out there.

Anybody try Fennec Alpha yet?

It's very slow.
Nope and won't until it's out of beta. Hopefully they'll push out a good product in the end and be all ad free with some good add-ons. I'll stick with Dolphin HD for now. Love me some Dolphin.

Very slow its worth keeping if its faster
Incredibly slow, memory intensive and freezes up the phone a lot. The UI isn't as easy to navigate as it should be. The way they set it up is pretty good, but menu doesn't work the way it should in Android (which I hate) and the back button backs you out of the app, but doesn't even close it, not to mention it won't take you back a page. They really need to finish making the UI a little more Android native. Then they need to do some serious speed and rendering enhancements. The addons are cool and the sidebars are also pretty cool. Guess it should be pretty good when its at least out of alpha.
Hello IHB. Unfortunately I was unable to get it to work.

It's got potential, I'm sure it will be good but it looks basically the same as it did when I played with it on win mob but is actually usable.

30+ MB for a web browser that offers no real improvements over AOSP Stock? No thanks.
Fennec
Yes it's a little rough around the edges but still in alpha stage. St I think it is gonna be good!
I try all the browsers, but keep going back to stock
Buggy as heck, slow -- well, it's still in alpha so that's what I expected. If you plan on using this, even for a quick test, prepare yourself for FCs, crazy address bar behavior and more.
i love the firefox team, but right now this doesn't hold a candle to Dolphin Browser HD
I just gave it a go and I really like the UI and how everything is right at my fingers, but damn it is slow, zooming is horrid, and whenever I actually wanted to read something it would be distorted and impossible....
Hope they get a good release out, I may use it then, but not as of now.

jaggy browser experience?

So I was really looking forward to getting a galaxy tab, primarily for web browsing. Then I saw this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZvCXMARtl0
What is the deal with the stuttering jaggy web browsing experience? Can someone that has a tab let me know if a third party browser can make browsing a little less, bleh?
The Galaxy Tab has Flash running in on the webpage.
Look at 0:08 on the video, you can see on the iPad that there are two bars marked "FLASH" disabled. It's suppose to have the banner for "HTC" on it.
Yeah, flash is SERIOUSLY CPU heavy. In fact that's how apple justifies not using it on any of its mobile devices. On closer inspection, there's more than just two 'FLASH' bars on the iPad, I count at least 4.
If you want it to good THAT fast then turn flash off.
On the other hand, do you look at websites by pinging back and forth on them so fast you can't read the text ? Personally, I scroll slowly down, and only move quickly infrequently when I want to 'go to top' or 'go to bottom'. If you actually read websites, the video doesn't really show off a whole lot. Its not comparing like with like, and its not comparing a real life situation, so it doesn't matter.
I have the tab. Some sites with flash will run just fine.
Others will simply cause the browser to be unusable. I have no explanation to this.
I compare a site that is unusable on the tab with my Droid x and on the droidx the site runs just fine with flash enabled.
Maybe. This is a software issue which is unrelated to flash and can be fixed in a future firmware update.

Quote possibly. Samsung have been slow to release Froyo for the galaxy, so maybe the flash thing isn't just the Tab, its the architecture. Maybe they can't get the hummingbird GFX to accelerate properly.
I have a Tab since 1 week and yes...the browsing experience is really awful. it's a pain...it's slow in loading pages and VERY jaggy in scrolling.
If I think that it should be one of the best features on the Tab I'm very sad and I really hope that it will be fixed (ad least improved) soon in future releases!
By now I just can't leave my ipad for internet browsing.
It looks like both the SGS and the Tab are suffering from the same issue with the browser.
Samsung will have no choice but to fix this.
Dolphin and Opera
Yes browsing with stock browser is really slow and jaggy. I've installed Opera mini and Dolphin. I use Opera for casual browsing (ie xda) and it's really smooth. When I need flash, or for "difficult sites" or if I have to download with rapidhare etc I use Dolphin (which is almost smooth).
Thank you all for your honest opinions.

Dolphin uses the same core lib as the stock browser so it should run the same as stock in terms of speed.

Didnt know. In practice it's really smoother though!
The webkit browser has a really annoying renderer in general. I dont understand why it needs to lower picture quality whenever you move the image around.
Just look at the way opera mini does it - much faster and better looking! Sadly its buggy and lacking in features, which is why im still using webkit.
Dolphin HD is slightly better (if only because it semi-blocks flash content by default), but it has some annoying ui elements like the giant tab bar, which can be removed but at the cost of being able to click on objects along the top edge of the display.
Ive also tried the ARM7 version of the mozilla fennec nighly builds. It just force closed on me, not even a little looksee
For me Dolphin HD is much smoother beside the fact it doesn't show flash banners where stock one does.
Both of them have been a disappointment WRT flash support.
It isn't that great for sites i visit.
If I open a new tap, I need to zoom in and out to get a picture
is this normal?

You running ICS on your phone?
Used it on OG Transformer with paulburton's ICS ROM. The browser is pretty smooth, and looks just like the pc chrome browser.
I don't have enough posts to link to the file, but it should be pretty easy to find the apk by now.
i tried it on Sensation
its pretty sweet
we need ICS for TF101 now!
Does Chrome for Android have all the same security and privacy issues that Chrome for desktop has?
If it does, i'm sticking with Opera.
Google and Adobe won't support flash for Chrome on Android
Which is either good or bad depending on you.
I use Flash for live video so I don't like this decision. It's a good option to have, you can always opt to not install it

I love Chrome browser . I've being waiting for this since... well since Android 1st came out
But i'm going to wait for the official ICS for the TF101 before i try it.
I just hope that is not a RAM devourer app
Works great on my Rezound with 4.0.1! This browser is sweet! I would totally dump the stock browser for this anyday, but I kinda wished they kept the darker gray theme rather than going back to light gray..
The tabs sharing with the desktop Chrome is F-ing Awesome! Like what Chrome2Phone should have been all along!
No Flash in Chrome for now. Adobe say they won't support it but hopefully Google will adapt it later.

Where be the tab stack? Do we lose that, another Tablet sacrifice?
Fairly stable for me. The only crash I had was with something like 7-8 tabs open (all XDA Prime forums, plus a few chrome blogs, LOL! I like it. A LOT! And typically I am hard to please, especially where browsers are concerned. There are way to many Android browsers out there that are acceptable, but not outstanding. Each has their own little tweaks and claim to fame, but under the hood they are ridiculousy similar. Let's see, I have had on my Prime, at one point or another:
Stock. - Works well. So well it bores me, LOL
ICS+ - A nice set of enhancements. I use it more than the stock webkit browser
Dolphin and Dolphin HD - I like, don't love it. A bit TOO slick, and some things frustrate me. It will be better when the HD catches up to the small screen version, I think
Opera Mini and Opera Mobile - What can I say. 2 solid browsers here. Mobile is a keeper. [
boat browser - Not imopressed, other than speed, it was buggy. removed.
Skyfire - I LOVED this one on my phone in early releases it was amazing. When Skyfire decided t charge me to see flash, I decided to cut them lose. Too many alternatives. It's not THAT great.
Firefox - a HUGE let down, but everyone expected magic here. Didn't materialize.
Maxthon. Very cool new browser.Jury still out on this one.
That's right off the top of my head.
Anyone know how to make the tab "Stack" appear in chrome, or is that only in the phone version, because we have the real estate to see the tabs. If so I am disappointed. That was chromes one big trick pony, and I was excited to try it. So far I can't see the button in top left to enable them, just a new tab button. Anyone?

they seek attention...thats all.
ICS is a dream, well put there sir.
the only true problem is the screen responsiveness but i can live with that as it is the first release.
its super fast, super smooth,at last i have a working browser that loads in the speed of light even the most bad written web pages full of ads which of course i have disabled with adfree and generally its ten times better than any laptop and netbook.
hardware keyboard is so responsive,no lag at all as in the terrible hc and apps load like hell.
i am in love with my tablet at last and yes,now i see why tablets are the future.
with HC i had my tablet closed like for a month....
Some of more "simple" people in this world get more hyped up the longer they wait for something, in the end, there is no way they would be happy with what they end up with, so much so they can't even see the good stuff anymore.
Im in love

After getting ICS today on my TF, I can objectively say that it's nothing to get your panties wet about, and it never was. It's a minor update at best.
Your tablet must have been really badly optimized and cluttered with junk if updating to ICS made it "work like a dream".
If you notice that much of a difference in performance, the problem wasn't the OS. It was you.

The upgrade to the browser alone qualifies it as a major upgrade, its gone from a slow buggy mess to something that is a joy to use. Just being able to type this reply without the 3 second lag for every key press is a breath of fresh air

thank you (raising hand at the same time)
I must say that I initially was disappointed. I expected a lot of user interface changes and a heap of new functions. But got disappointed when it looked just like before.
But annoying lags are gone, I discover small improvements all the time and I am beginning to really appreciate this update.
My favourite new feature so far is app folders on the desktop.
LWP is useless so the ones getting a slower device because of it is just getting what they deserve. Bling should be on your girlfriends fingers, not on your tablet.
i don`t think ICS is a mayor update, for me it feels more like a polished version of HC, with less of the small annoying lags, and a lot of other small problems are gone. the only thing i would consider mayor about it, is the upgraded browser and the chrome beta. finally two web browsers on my TF which i realy like.

I read somewhere that ICS is supposed to be a major upgrade for phones Android 2.X. Android 3.X is for tablets only. Android 4 is a merge of these two strategies, therefor the changes are bigger for phones than tablets.
I think the article summed up that ICS is a way to bring the Honeycomb upgrade to phones.

Dream Indeed
I have been aboard the android train since my Galaxy s.
Used to run darky's roms then switched to paulforde's 4.2. This already made me feel ICS really is a major update.
Got my EEpad about 3 months ago. And switched to GnuFabio's Revolver rom, which I loved. Yesterday I flashed the Full WW ICS after only wiping cache and Dalvik, booted into ICS, booted into recovery and the installed the update over it. And I must say, this is my best Android experience so far. Especially during swiping through screens I always noticed quite a few frames were being dropped. And occasional keyboard lag.. also sometimes the memory management seemed to play tricks on me from time to time.
But so far this really is feeling like a dream even though my device is running stock and used to run @1.4Ghz. I am loving this !
I'm really digging ICS as well. At first I found it a bit clunky and did have trouble with the screen responsiveness but after a few hours of use it seemed fade away and is now snappier than ever.
My only complaint is with the browser and the backwards step they took removing the ability to change the default User Agent permanently. Same thing with Chrome Beta. Why make a fancy browser only to have it display stuff meant for a 3-5 inch display? I'm not too upset as I'm sure it will be one of the first things they fix in the next major update(s) to ICS.
Maybe i had low expectations, but this update has really impressed me; noticeably faster, not blindingly so, but faster nonetheless eg. the 'recent apps' button - before you'd have a 1-2 delay, now it's instant.
The browser is massively improved, no more blocky rendering when scrolling through xda, no typing lag, no random crashes, much more stable. Other little things you keep noticing: drag 'n drop files in the files manager; ctrl+shift+arrows to select words etc.
Sure, there's nothing earth shattering about ICS - but for me, the transformer now works like I always imagined it should work.
I love ICS also on my tf101!!

Browser slow to render while zooming out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8R0098PvvM&feature=youtube_gdata_player
at 14:15+ you can clearly see new way of how stock Browser handles zoomouts, why does it show blank page and needs one sec to rerender everything? It wasn't like that even on SGS1 GB firmwares with hw acceleration (JVQ+ I think).
It looks like Samsung left their way of rendering and implemented Google ICS way which in my opinion is worse.

Agreed - I was actually quite impressed watching him torture the browser.
it's because GOOGLE made ****ty browser rendering on ICS when u zoom in or out the text become blurry then after like 0.3 second it rerender the text and become normal and the page some time become white on zooming in and out and the problem still on 4.04 what a shame on google
I wish this guy could show some PROPER scrolling in the video he's just swiping around like a maniac. I hope they put back the "sticky" scrolling, in ICS on the SII the browser doesnt stick to textboxes and such anymore it's kinda freeflowing wich is horrible, It ruins the browsing experience.. This video is not very good in telling if it's back to normal, only a few times it looks like it is..
