Droid 1 VS Droid X : First Impressions

I recently got a Droid X as an upgrade from the original Droid, and decided to compare the two:
Droid 1 Vs. Droid X
Hope this helps someone!
I personally think the Droid X is more solid than the Droid 1. In your review you said the Droid X is plastic!?!? It is metal buddy.

I said the Droid X feels more plastic when holding both phones.
I know both phones are solid and durable.

It's probably because the Droid X is so much lighter.
Yes, handling solely the Droid X for a few days, it doesn't really feel plastic, but quite strong. I guess I was in the mindset that heavier is stronger, which [gladly] isn't always the case.
Also, Nixing MotoBlur for Launcher Pro Beta has drastically improved my experience with the Droid X - I do recommend!
Thanks for all the feedback.

Droid 2 vs Droid X

I am eligible for an upgrade (my eris kept breaking so they're allowing me early upgrade) and I'm wondering which would be better, the Droid 2 or Droid X.
I have researched them and I'm leaning towards the Droid X, though I don't know if that would be the better option or not.
What are your thoughts?
Do you want a better camera and no keyboard? Then go with the X.
Want a qwerty keyboard and small footprint? Then go with the D2.

he pretty much nailed it.
something to keep in mind, although the droid x has a larger screen, it's still the same resolution as the droid/droid 2. that being said, without modifying your pixel density, it's exactly the same amount of screen real-estate.
aside from that, the droid x has hdmi out.
so the only differences are:
droid 2-
qwerty keyboard
3.7" display [480x854]
droid x-
720p video recording
4.3" display [480x854]
hdmi out
well.... i went with the droid 2 and a friend of mine chose the X.... it really does kinda come down to what you want to use the phone for, where as he uses his as a mega iPhone for pictures, video, texting and blah blah blah so he wanted the one with a bigger screen and camera and i got mine to tinker with, and i wanted that physical keyboard so when im playing around in terminal i can have the screen be a screen and not the keyboard and as pointed out its the same resolution (stock)...
I think in the not to distant future both phones are going to be fully blown open to be modded any which way, so I dont think any attention should be payed to what modding is currently available to each phone
Yep, that's my take too.
I went with the Droid 2, I'm a sucker for qwerty keyboards. Same specs aside from camera and hdmi so it's pretty much to your own taste. I also like the slightly smaller screen, fits better in my pocket. I had a chance to take the X for a test drive before and I liked this one a lot better so I'm pretty happy with my choice.
Milestone 2?
Is this the same as the Milestone 2?
Doesn't seem to be a thread for it so I'm guessing it's mixed in with the Droid 2/x threads.
Does the Milestone 2/Droid 2 do 720p now?
Same Cpu/gpu speeds as the Doid X?
How's the camera in the Droid 2?
Cheers in advance.

Looks as if the Droid 2 and Milestone 2 are the same phone...Droid 2 is just named Milestone 2 in Europe
Droid 2 at Costco is $199 - $100 instant rebate. I found out today. I was like :O

i went through some specs and it appears that the milestone 2 has 720p recording/playback capabilities (although the screens resolution is still 854/480) which only makes me angry that i cant figure out how to give my droid 2 the same ability

Upgrading from the Droid 1 to Droid 2 finally..

I played around with the Droid 2 Global at the store and ended up ordering a Droid 2 (original) from eBay to upgrade from my somewhat sluggish Droid 1. I noticed a few things.
1) Better keyboard... larger keys are helpful here.
2) Better and firmer sliding mechanism. I get a lot less wobble on the Droid 2 than the first one
3) Brighter screen. I don't know whether they improved the LCD par se but I suspect that it's the same Super LCD of the Droid X that I use once awhile.
Any other improvements over the original?
Only negative is the locked bootloader. Hopefully Droid 3 corrects that.
Motorola has said that they are going to keep their bootloaders locked. So, for me personally i'm going to try and stay away from Motorola phones/tablets in the future.
And as for upgrades from the Droid 1, the upgrades are basically the things you stated, plus the obvious, CPU, Ram etc.
Sounds good then. I just received my Droid 2 and loving it much better than the first one. Very happy guy here.

They use the same battery, so you can keep it and always have a spare!
Check out the fission rom if you miss having vanilla android.
It is much snappier than the stock rom the d2 comes with.

Droid X better than EVO 4g??

I was testing out the new DROID X & it feels a lot smoother quicker than my EVO 4g. I thought the phone was clocked in at faster speeds since the performance was noticeably better however its at 1000mhz & my evo is at 998....How is the Droid X faster/smoother ect & better batt life?

It isn't a different Operating system, it just has a different UI/software above the operating system, almost like touchwiz, htc sense, motoblur etc.
Most likely a better gpu (graphics chip) keep in mind this phone is roughly a year and a half old which is like 73826294926624 years in tech time haha btw it will say 1ghz or 1000mhz but that's what the evo said to. Its really 998 also like evo since I believe it has the same processor (don't quote me on that tho)

I second the point reguarding your old used phone vs new phone. If your reinstall your os it will mist likely get that old snappiness back.
Or it could simply be a sense vs motoblur...or what ever they Called their overlay.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Could be the sense vs moto...but then again Im not using sense but ASOP...just seems the iphone & droid x are both smoother & quicker than the EVO..
EVO for sure. 8 users on hotspot instead of 5 (stupid Verizon), actually has unlimited data (stupid Verizon again), actually tethers Wi-Fi (USB tether obviously), 4G, and 3G (Droid X can only do 3G)
EVO for sure. My bro has a Droid X2 and has so many problems with random reboots and other issues that hes planning on upgrading to the galaxy nexus soon. My EVO seems far smoother then his Droid X2... but im running MikG 2.6 sense 2.1 + 3.0 so stock may be different.
I have a buddy who had the droidx meedless to say 5 phones later he now has a new phone he said it had major issues. I can't say from my own exp but I have had one evo and still have it and use it regularly. I love my evo. I can't wait for the newest HTC phone.
My buddy has a Droid X and he is always begging me to trade phones... He really prefers Sense.
my first droid based phone was the htc aria for at&t....basically just a smaller EVO...when my 2 years was up i went with sprint...got the evo i wont go to anyother phone....ive had 2 droids and 6 iphones....so you see which i stuck with....might get another evo just for kicks also getting the htc evo view bigger better evo? lol

Looking to upgrade to Droid Turbo

Hello all, currently im running the Droid Razr MAXX (2012), its starting to show its age and i have been due for a upgrade for awhile now, i was originally looking at the Note 4 but the Droid Tubro has gained my attention. The Droid Razr MAXX has been the only smartphone i have owned so im not sure how much i would enjoy touchwiz. With my limited experince using the liquid smooth rom on my razr maxx and using my nexus 7 i believe that stock android is something that i more prefer, i assume that the droid turbo is closer to that aspect.
I want opinions from people, preferablly that have owned/have experince with the Razr MAXX or its successor (Droid Maxx) on wether or not the 64GB Droid Turbo is a good pickup for 250$ Contract price.
If you prefer a stock experience, don't need a 6 inch screen and don't mind VZWs handprint, then you should be quite happy. It's a really nice phone and the 64 gig version looks and feels sweet.

Do you use Smart Actions? If so, and you like it, you will be frustrated with Assist. Like really frustrated. Also, no notification light on the Turbo if that's important to you. The speaker is a step down from the Razr as well. Other than that the Turbo will feel like a big upgrade. The screen is beautiful and the phone runs very fast. Some have commented on the screens lack of brightness. It may be less bright than other phones on the market but I held it side by side with my Razr Maxx HD (both on max setting) and the Turbo was brighter. The battery on the Turbo isn't what I hoped but it certainly lasts longer than the 2 year old battery in my Maxx HD and it will get you through a day of heavy use no problem. Can't speak to Touch Wiz and the other Note 4 features as I haven't used one. Hope that helps.

Well its been awhile since i used smart action as i have not been on the stock rom for over a year now. When i was on the stock rom all i used it for was to setup a profile to turn off all sound during school hours. With the rom im currently using their is a "profile" system that allows me to do that without the need for a standalone app like smartactions.
This phone is super awesome! I never ever liked Samsung touchwiz. So much ram is uses and is complicated too! My turbo makes me to not look back at my previous razr maxx and atrix hd (which was the first chassis design for the razer) and I always stock android for it was always simple even though I use nova launcher which is the same really. The turbo is worth to get for the screen is super clear, battery lasts all day no matter how hardcore you use it, camera is acceptable for its 20.7 mp, and the ballistic nylon back is so amazing! Only drawback I dislike is in calls that the speaker is not so loud compared to other phones and some times having to put it on speakerphone to hear. The turbo is worth to get!
I've had both the droid RAZR MAXX and the droid MAXX.
RAZR MAXX to droid maxx is a big upgrade in terms of screen size/quality, speed and features (active notifications, always listening). Droid MAXX to turbo is a more incremental upgrade.
Note that the turbo does not do simultaneous voice and data so that may be a deal breaker. This, to me, gives the old droid MAXX a big leg up.
Either the droid MAXX or the turbo are both a huge step up from the RAZR MAXX.

They are going to enable VoLTE ... Which will enable it when you are connected to LTE, same as it is right now for last years phones.
The difference is that right now, with a phone with dual radios (XT1080M, moto x 2013) if you leave an LTE area while doing both, you loose data (no big deal usually). With the new breed of phones (turbo, moto x 2014) with VoLTE and one radio, if you loose LTE while talking - you drop the call.
Net result? The new generation of phones will have more dropped calls, when using VoLTE.

From what I've read on here, the lack of voice+data is a limitation on Verizon's network. Some have taken the Droid Turbo to AT&T where voice+data works, so the phone has the capability, just not on Verizon.
I'm thinking of going from an AT&T Galaxy S3 to the Droid Turbo. I currently have Straight Talk service. I would imagine, since the Turbo's unlocked, that I can just pop my Straight Talk SIM into the Turbo and it should work, with a few APN adjustments.
