[Q] Transferring contacts to CM7 - Bravo General

I recently installed CM7 on my phone and I have been periodically switching between my backup of stock 2.2 and CM7, in order to retain the functionality of my phone but use CM7 when I want to. I'd like to make CM7 my everyday platform. However, I'm having a problem with contacts.
I have my initial stock froyo contacts backed up to my google account using the default settings, and on CM7 it is importing contacts from the google account and from facebook. Problem is, it didn't import many of the phone numbers I added to facebook contacts as part of the motoblur contacts list. The other problem is on CM7 I can't edit a facebook contact to also make them a phone contact, which frankly is a bit ridiculous based on how simplistic it is to do using 2.2 with motoblur.
How can I transfer all my contacts from 2.2 to CM7? Also, how do I add a phone number to a facebook contact without creating a completely different contact on CM7?

Contacts.vcf look up the instructions. Worked for me. Hope that helps.

App for Merging Contacts

Hi,
There is one thing that driving me nuts. Lets say I have a friend, whose names is John. In google, I have saved his email ID with name j.smith .. .. then his another email ID with johns .. .. and then finally his cell number with name john ..
After, I linked up all accounts in my HTC Desire People. I can see these three accounts in one single contact. Fare enough and perfect. But is there anyway, I can merge these three accounts into 1 so that it is synced to my Google Account and to my HTC Contacts?
Not sure if I understand correctly what you want to do but its something I've struggled with as well. There was a perfect app for this on iPhone/iOS but I have yet to find anything that comes even close on Android. Try Contacts Analyzer available on Market but it's dismal. Doesn't allow you a preview of the changes you're about to make before you commit them!
Didn't help that .. :s
Gmail Contacts
Your best bet is to just do it in Gmail from your computer, then let the phone sync. It's easy and you will have them all in the same format, and you can add pictures for caller ID, etc.
You're in trouble if you have 1,000 contacts like I used to...the idea I think is to use an app that auto-works and gets the job done as a batch without you having to edit every single contact...then you can sync to Facebook and pull in some photos IDs...
Hi,
Anybody knows of an app that merges / joins contacts?
HTC Sense has this function if you know what I mean, sometimes a chain-link icons shows up in the notification area.
I´d like to have an app that does this on a batch basis so that I can chose to do so for all my contacts instead of merging / joining one by one.
I know I can do this one by one. Go contacts Ex gives this function without doing it for everyone at one batch job. You have to acceppt one by one...
I am using , Google, ActiveSync, Facebook, Whatsapp etc. contacts
Ideas?

This. Plus there is an option on Gmail to merge duplicates so you can at least have google do most of the sorting and merging for you. And if possible, don't let any HTC app mess with my Google contacts.

I think that's the most important idea about merging. My opinion's that any given app could mess things up and leave you with a lot of different linked contacts. Personally I prefer to edit all my contacts at my Gmail account so that I don't have to merge them again everytime I flash another rom for example.
If you're willing to take the time and patience for it it'll pay off to manually manage your contacts at Gmail.

+1
I've been searching that function for long time since I moved from the stock sense rom to others, and still no app is giving me this. I even tried a lot of different contact manager but no one works really well.
About G contacts: I really care to keep the list "clean" and every contact linked with whatsapp, email, facebook etc, but sometimes it just lose the info, even if I've just merged that contact with the app I'm currently using (I'm running MildWild) and rsynced the G account.
Try Go Contacts Ex (free), it has various functions on merging contacts (by number, email etc.)
Thanks, this works nearly perfect.
Mine im using contapps free from market, try it if you want too! ̄ω ̄

yeah try go contact ex it work for me
I think you should sync with gmail.

Need some help with apps.

I recently got this as my first android phone. My friend convinced me to perma-root this phone and I did. I now have CyanogenMod 7. However, a few things are bothering me. My calender is not syncing up correctly for some reason, and my contacts book looks so much more dull without the facebook links and their statuses under their names, as it did with the original interface/operating system I was using (stock that was loaded with HTC stuff).
Are there any apps that compensate or do the same thing as that friend linker?
Thank you
Assuming you mean linking you calendar with Gmail, this is a known issue. Go to settings, applications, all, Gmail, then clear data. You wont lose your emails as they're in the cloud and it should remedy your problem.

Link your Facebook account under accounts then go to contacts -> settings -> display options then click show the fb contacts.

[Q] saving contacts / royal ginger 1.4

So with the upcoming release of royal ginger 1.5 I wanted to save Just my contacts stored on my phone to the sim or make a file on the sd card.
Everytime I go to contacts-import/export it ends up saving 260contacts when I only have 160 actual phone numbers. The 260contacts includes gmail email addresses and a bunch of nonsense.
I turned off contact sync for my google account and all that still.
Is it possible to delete all contacts on sim and replace with an updated 160?
Help is appreciated.

I did it backwards I think. I saved all to gmail, then deleted them from SD, no Sim though (Imagine it's the same process).
I then cleaned up my gmail, and then re synced it via phone.
When updating to Royalginger 1.5 you wont lose contacts but you will lose SMS and mms

Just use My Backup Pro. Very Easy to use.

Facebook sync

Would there be a way to sync a facebook account on google contact, and then sync google contact to the nexus s?
Just had a look at my phone, and when i went into contacts, go to settings and there is an export to usb option as a .cvl (i think>) format.
Im assuming you can then go into gmail and import it into your contacts using that file, worth a try
What i'd like to do it to have all my facebook contact (100+) on my phone with their phone number and email.
Using gmail was an exemple as I know that one can be synced with the phone.

You can already sync facebook contacts to your phone, mine is set up like that right now!
I THINK that there was some controversy with FB and Google about FB's sync so they removed it? But CM mod has brought that functionality back.
Either way, it works on CM7 for sure
If you have the Facebook App installed you can Sync Contacts so long as you've Android 2.3.2 or earlier (Or install an alternate ROM). For more see;

I have 2.3.3, but I didn't know CM could bring that back. Most of CM feature I as were already part of my phone, so I didn't felt like rooting was worth it. But now I think i'll look deeper into that, thanks

seems like this was the reason Google removed Facebook by default

If you use an AOSP-based rom, the rights google deleted were put back into it.

Display contacts with phone numbers only

Running Quarx CM10 - 0409
Previous versions of CM7 and I believe CM9 had an option of only displaying contacts that have a phone number (eg dont show those contacts that just have an email address)
Its missing in the latest version - is it a CM mod or a standard JB exclusion?
Because the phone is synced to gmail, there are a lot of contacts that dont need to be displayed. They can be edited into groups to sort that problem, but the other way was faster and cleaner.
Is it just missing or did I not find it?
Moved to Q&A. Please ask all questions there, thanks.
