Hi. Introduce me. Im an apple fanboy since 2004, and i owned everything apple produced from mac to iDevices.
Been using iphone all my life until the 4s. It's a great phone but lacking bigger screen.
So i decided to buy a galaxy note because im amazed by the big screen and high resolution of the display.
From my first day use, i regretted buying an android device because my galaxy note seemed lagging even doing something simple like scrolling a website.
Then enter the xda forum and i heard only good things about rooting and installing ics stunner.
It took me 2 days to learn about it and i finnaly managed to installed it on my brand new note.
Boy i couldn't be happier. This rom makes android much smoother, though iphone 4s is a bit smoother but u wouldn't mind since the small screen of iphone makes it unpleasant to use.
Lucky i already got the ipad 3 to play games on it because devs seem to make games on app store alot, much much more than in google's appstore, so i don't need a phone to play games anymore.
That's why i switched to android, oh the openness is amazing, you can set default apps for some tasks, share everything so easy to fb, twitter, whatsapp, etc etc, customization. Good lord where have i been all my life.
Thanks for reading my experience.

welcome ;D
At the moment i have galaxy note and had ipod touch 4g ( sold one week ago) i didnt like ios 5.1 because it had a lot of limitations, for example i even couldnt made battery percentage without jailbreak and etc. Thats why i have sold ipod because of too limited operating system. With my first android device i thought damn android is so difficult but after some months it become for me the best OS ;D just need some time to get used with android ;D
Yeah Android isn't quite as smooth as iOS yet, but you get a lot more functionality/openness in return. I should warn you that all (I think) ICS ROMs use leaked kernels which are known to have a risk of bricking, especially when wiping/flashing. And probably when handling large files as well. Look up Entropy512's posts for more info.
I flashed the DAFUQ kernel with PC Odin after hearing about this. Still using Stunner but now more safely. It's kinda buggy now, though, but still beats going back to Gingerbread in my book.
Well, besides the other benefits of the switch, you can now tell your apple friends ( I would be one, and say this too) that you have the only retina display device with a wacom tablet digitizer under it.
Welcome to the Android family, adichandra! Nice to see you here & I wish you a lot of fun with your note!
Like the preposter has already mentioned: the leaked LP kernels are not that safe atm and may harm your emmc...I LOVED stunner as well (it is a HELL of a rom^^), but due to some bad experiences by other users I switched back to Gingerbread (just for the next few weeks, I´m sure that the next leak/official ICS is in the pipeline).
A more secure alternative may be XplodWilDs CM9, which is here on the board as well. But if you want to switch, read the OP carefully --> you should go back to GB before flashing!
He is right, Xplod CM9 is more safe than the leaked version. Im using it now and ver satisfy with it!

Once official ICS comes out with a an official kernel, things will really start to ramp up here as far as development. But even on Gingerbread, my phone is almost as fluid as an iPhone 4S, since I keep very minimal apps on the phone. I only download an app if I can't do the same function on the browser and I don't really game on my phone. So far, the Note has been the best phone I have owned and I can't wait to see what Samsung has in store for the Galaxy S III since that technology is what we'll see in the Note 2.
Welcome to android family.
I guess im the only 1 that doesnt think ios is extremly smooth. Wife ip4s lags like any newer android device.

thanks for the warm welcome.
about those who experienced a bad luck with their note getting bricked, is it suddenly getting bricked when im using it or is it bricking when im flashing to the stunner's upcoming updates?.
let's say if im sticking with the current rom and not doing any flashing at all, is it going to brick my device too when let's say while im browsing?
im getting scared by reading this thread...

yeh for me ios lagged too, ipod touch 4g= iphone 4 just without call and sms functions, got laggs while playing nba 2k12, surfing the net with 4-6 tabs and scrolling at settings
Huge congratulations on taking the step to freedom and thinking for yourself! I know it can be scary when you're used to Apple deciding everything for you and all of a sudden you can choose for yourself, but that's a part of growing up.
I'm certain you won't regret it!

Hehe, don´t be too scared mate This is the point: It may happen that the kernel is messing with your device when you start to move big files OR when wiping...just search for posts from Entropy512 (who seems to be the most eloquent guy when it comes to this topic ) or matius44 (who summed up Entropy512´s posts quite often as well).
If you take a closer look to the stunner & imilka threads (etc), it is obvious that there are MANY ICS (repack) user who are NOT suffering of any kind of emmc damage (yet?). So the probability seems quite low to brick your device. But there is a propability, there have been a bunch of people e.g. last week, who had to handle the fact that there device is dead.
So in my case: I didn´t want to take the risk to mess up my 600$ device, for this reason I switched back a few days ago.
It is everyones own choice - this is a developer forum and it will always be connected with risks to flash ROMs For me, the risk seems to be higher with the repack stuff, so I will wait.
EDIT & OT: yeey, 400 posts counting^^

Nope! It wont brick suddenly when your not doing any flashing. It will only brick if you flash it wrong or as they said not proper flashing. Just follow each guide in flashing from the thread starter and there wont be any problem.

Yup. Flashing from the repack (more specifically, doing any form of a wipe from a repack - and flashing this wipes /system first) may only hardbrick a small percentage of users - 1%? 3%? 10%? - We don't know.
What we do know is:
1) Some users can flash all they want without hardbricking - but you don't know if you're in this category until you've found out the hard way that you're not
2) Some users can flash/wipe a few times but eventually will hardbrick. Just because you flashed once without bricking doesn't mean flash #2 isn't going to kill you
3) Some users, like xplodwild, will just hardbrick the first time they attempt to wipe or flash anything from a leak repack recovery
I'm going to talk to the moderators about giving infractions to anyone else who says they flashed safely from an existing repack - because that misleads other users into thinking they're safe too which is NOT TRUE. See items 1 and 2 above.

A lot of people will tell you how they flashed fine etc etc but you never know if that next system wipe will go through..
So you have to ask yourself "Do I feel lucky?"

Hi There!
I notice to date there is just the one custom ROM, and usually (I think) they are coming thick and fast by now. I am not complaining, but wondering if there is a reason other than a lack of stock? Is there less interest in custom ROMS for the SGS II, or is it harder, or is it a case of no point since the phone is brilliant regardless?
Theres a number of factors to consider... Custom roms need skilled devs with the actual phone.. And spare time to work on it.. The devs that make these roms do it for no fee and just because they are good people and want to improve the scene for everyone else.. It will take time and momentum to start seeing different roms.. But great question..
We are very lucky we already have some awesome people on the case like Supercurio who is a legend and has made some incredible things happen to the original Samsung Galaxy..
And pulsar who has made some fantastic Villian roms for the Hero and other phones..

For me, it's lack of time...
I'm trying to write some apps for the SGS2, whilst juggling a load of "real" work as well...
I think I'll start to look at a VERY stripped down rom in the next week or so
But yes, as stated above, I only got the phone on Wednesday, so I'm actually trying to still figure out what I like about it, and what I don't... So for a huge number of people, the phone is still only 2 days old
I'll try and get some more VRTweaks up, then we can look at having some fun and seeing how lean we can make this thing
And yeah, this don't pay the bills, other stuff does that, so there's only a few hours each day available...
Also worth considering is that this is a very new device. I've come over from the SGS which I only bought in February, and there are still an enormous amount of themes/ROMs being made for it, and the SGS is ca. 1 year old. And I think I tried every one of them too.
All good things come to he who waits..
Most important thing we're all waiting for CWM or other recovery to flash unsigned zips

Hello everyone. Just wanted to say hey and introduce myself. I just picked up my very first Android device, a galaxy s 2 (att). I'm coming from a long generation of iPhone and ios devices so this is a big deal for me. I'm still a huge apple fan and still carry my iPhone 4 but I'm not one of the closed minded ones. Apparently I joined this forum a long time ago but never participated but I'm back for sure this time. Being since this is my first Android, I am very uneducated but I do have an idea of the possibilities. I hope to learn everything there is to learn and enjoy my phone and Android as much as I have with my IPhones

Hi and welcome! You will be surprised how much you can personalize your android device! A tip is to try the different launchers. I use launcher pro! And if you dare to take it a step further you can try the different customs roms out there. My X10 was a completely new phone when I installed a custom rom.

Thanks guys. I've heard of roms but will have to research more since I don't Know enough. Like for instance, I didn't know that my device id that ended in 777 was going to determine that much.

I'm actually in the exact same boat as you, picked up the Galaxy S2 as my first Android phone after years of iPhones/iOS.
I'll be going back to Apple on October 14th.
So many people that I speak with outline that Android is so customizable and amazing, but I don't see it at all. There are some great features for sure (Swipe, Nav, etc) but overall I found the cons way out way the pros.
I've tried a number of different roms but never found one that didn't have something wrong with it. Certain apps not working, certain pieces of it not even present and ultimately I flashed to the updated Samsung 2.3.5.
I have reception issues every now and then that requires me to restart the phone. The battery life is pretty trashy unless I disable everything that makes a smart phone a smart phone. Apps don't feel anywhere near as polished, even something as simple as the facebook app feels slow and under developed when compared to the iOS version.
Overall, everything that people bloat about for Android being amazing, I'll never use (Seriously, who cares if you can torrent while on the go!) and the new features iOS 5 are going to bring will align pretty much everything that I actually do use.
I'm by no means an apple fan boy, I own a PC not a mac and I was more then willing to try Android after all the hype I've heard but I don't see any of it.
Huge disappointment, just wish I was still in the 14 days window where I could return the device...

go to menu -settings-about phone-last 5 entries will tell you alot about your phone model and versions on it.
You will need this information if you need help in the future.
I had an iPhone 4 for a few months and couldn't wait to get rid of it, I'm really pleased with my galaxy s2. For me the benefits of android far outweigh the negatives. Some of the benefits of android include not having to use crappy itunes, being able to use an SD card and not having to wait months for a jailbreak to mention just a few.
When I comes to customizing the home screen try 'go launcher' you can run it without root. To do the equivilant on the iPhone you would need about 4 or 5 cydia apps/tweaks.

I swear by my Note and ever since my beloved HTC magic and loved android (the G1 was not quite there for me..android 1 sucked ass)
I have converted many fan boys in my time to the temple of google and they all love android.
The note is the best android device I have owned, the screen is beautiful and I never have any crashes etc.
At least we can customise the note...I am so glad I sold my milestone all those years ago
I've had phones like old Nokia Brick phones, Sony Ericsson with Symbian OS, Htc touch with Windows OS, Iphone, Iphone 3g & 3gs, Iphone 4, Htc snesation (android) and Finally.... Samsung G Note.
All i can say, Samsung Note + Android is the best combination and so far the best phone I've ever had. When I look back I feel ashamed that I had Iphone TOY in the past.

Well, I bought my first cell phone (Motorola) in 1998 and since then have owned many different models and makes but since I bought the Note in January, I have never been completely satisfied with any phone until now!
It is true that with GB I had frequent reboots but since I upgraded to ICS LQ2 two weeks ago I haven't had ANY random reboots or malfunctions whatsoever.
I believe the Note is probably one of the best and most useful phone ever made to date and you probably just have a faulty phone. I am sorry for you
Another "HIT ME" post by Apple fanboy.
This has to have been a troll post but what the heck I'll humour them.
I have to say the Note has to have had the LEAST problems of any phone I've had. On any platform.
I have flashed and rooted this thing six ways from Sunday and it just keeps chugging along.
I have done my homework and I'm sure that helps but in my mind the Samsung devices are well suited to customization and pretty forgiving to noobs. The Note is just another shining example of that.
Now that I have it set up how I like it I'm very happy. Or at least till the next shiny new beast comes along
To the OP: Do you really expect to post something like this and not get all this "hate" from others? You are on the Note forum. So, why don't you sell your Note and go back to your little iPhone world?

I reall cant see how this thread is going to go anywhere but down.
Maybe a general rant, but I am extremely disappointed in Samsung. I bought the Note the day it came out, at top dollar, international version. I was fully expecting a stable ICS update, and much sooner than it came out. But fine, it came out a few months later than I expected it. And ever since the update, it just been downhill. My battery life has gone from 15 hours to 8 hours(same usage profile, same apps), camera freezing, etc. I was running stock.
I have hacked in the past, had an inspire and put ROMs every few weeks, so yes, I can go install better battery stats, and run CPU spy, find out about wakelocks and run CPU spy, and spend a whole bunch of time debugging it, or run AOSP etc. But really, do I have to do this for a device that is 4 months old and is supposedly the "top device" of Samsung? Cant they test the upgrades on their phones in a much better manner? The only thing I miss from my iphone 3G days (since I switched to Android) is the timely, and very well tested updates (and the backup restore of everything, one click, seamless). I never had a problem, and if I did, it was resolved very quickly, usually. I wont go back to iOS again, ever. But I really want an Android other than Nexus (I like TW, I started liking Sense a lot too), and have updates on time, well tested.
Is that really too much to ask? If Samsung is expecting to be a top Android phone manufacturer, is that too much to ask? To be very honest, I am extremely disappointed with Samsung, very very disappointed. I had friends with the S2 who were similarly disappointed, and I was really hoping that things would work better this time around. I guess Ill have to go onto rooting and try different roms, but my point is, I dont have to do all this. Just extremely disappointed with Samsung. I am really hoping Google does something with good with Motorola. Really really hoping.
Same here. Not to mention the superbrick bug which is known for what ... 3 months or so ? Other than Samsung is working on it, nada, zit, zero ... I guess we are lucky for having XDA because without it I'd be stuck with an expensive phone I'm afraid to even update through the official software let alone put roms on ( I thought that was the main strength of Android btw ( extreme mod-ability) ?
I was also considering in buying a tablet, Android tablet, Samsung tablet. Now ? Neh, I will wait and see what the Infinity looks like in the real world and if I don't like that I'll get an iPad. I used to love Samsung but their late attitude is very suggestive : we've got your 600 euro, **** off now.

Its just an attitude I cannot condone. I might not like a lot of things about Apple, but they do a very good job with trying to keep up their commitments and making devices( atleast one generation before) that work according to spec. If not, I can walk into a damn store and get it serviced within my warranty. Samsung does nothing. Running contests for best apps and hiring the best developers does not get Samsung anywhere. 700 bucks, and I have a phone which I cannot use a lot without making sure i have a charger around. I dont really knew if Samsung is even reading this, or even if they care(as you said, they have our money now we can **** off), but I am hoping enough people complaining makes some bit of a difference to them to make even current (4 month old users, ****ing insane) a priority and not just go on and do the next exciting thing. If nothing changes in any manufacturer, I might do the unthinkable andmove back to iOS. With two jobs, when do I find time to be sitting and looking at custom roms and wakelocks and preventing incrementing binary counters just to get the battery life I was promised?. Without xda, I would be dead, really, very helpful people who can answer questions and point me in the right direction.
If it just works all day, I might just make the switch back one day. Scr** Samsung.
Well, this is usually what you get with a true multitasking OS. The problem you are having is mainly on usage time (from your description). As Uncle Ben said it, "with great power comes great responsibility". Its Android design problem and not totally Samsung fault in this issue, though there are things that I would like Samsung to fix. For FCs with applications, a factory reset or wiping the application data normally would solve the problem. Again, this is the OS issue. Sigh...
As you can see, most smart phone actually last about 5 hours per charge. You extend the usage time by suspending the phone. The thing is, a multitasking OS allows applications to run in background and those applications might be preventing the phone from getting suspended. If you never install any 3rd party applications on your phone, you won't likely get this problem, thus the reason I quote Uncle Ben. Microsoft learnt this with Windows Mobile, thus Window Phone now works like IOS where applications sent to background are suspended.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not protecting Samsung. If you own a Sony Ericsson, Motorola or HTC, you'll be there in their respective thread renting the same thing.
Just go back to Gingerbread, what's so great about ICS?
Oh boy, not another "samsung sucks, im going to buy apple" thread...

Sure, the iPad is the best tablet available. It can't do half the things Android does, not to mention Windows 8 tablets in comparison with which, the iPad is just a big mp3 player. But good choice. And no, this is not hate for Apple. I had an iPad, liked it very much, but after a month it turned out that it practically can't do anything...
Cool story. Just won an ipad 3. Set it up and was playing with it. I think the screen sucks and the OS is frigging boring. Sold it on ebay.
I'm more disappointed the Galaxy Nexus got the ban hammer in the US. I refuse to ever use an Apple product.
Same thing here. I bought an iPhone 4S 3 months after I bought my Galaxy S2. Sold the 4S within a week.
There's something about android that once you go android you can't really go back. Well at least for me.

Sigh...

Cool story. Just won an ipad 3. Set it up and was playing with it. I think the screen sucks and the OS is frigging boring. Sold it on ebay.

While I would agree that the OS is so friggin boring, I CANNOT agree that the screen sucks. I have never seen anyone say that the new iPad's screen sucks, except for you. Just saying,
I will never choose Samsung again.
They are lazy and they are cheap. I had a problem with my logical board and they didn't replace my phone. Now they replaced my logical board and it has deep sleep issues.
Now i have to send my phone for the FOURTH time so i can get anywhere.
They got my money once, yes. Never again....
Their loss....
I would agree an iPhone or iPad is boring but the ease of use is something you can't argue about. It's simple, boring, and friggin' expensive. That's why it's for retards. Sorry apple fanboys but it's the truth

That's unfortunate. I have voiced this before and concur with the OP, that no one should HAVE to root or download custom ROMs for a great experience with any Android device, be it from Samsung or any other company.
It's a show of mediocrity by Android and Android phone manufacturers when they place products in the market which truly do not perform without a bunch of optimizations. If this continues, Android will never overtake iOS and any Android device will always be behind an iPhone and an iPad.
Criskelo ICS LQ3 v8, LPT Modem, Speedmod k3-3 kernel, AT&T
I'll never buy a. Samsung again either. I'll get a google or HTC phone.
Samsung feels cheap hardware-wise and more importantly delayed ICS far too long.
Almost in the same boat here.

Although i didn't have any motherboard issue, i had the deep sleep issue ever since i upgraded to ICS and i didn't even notice it until recently.
Thanks to XDA members i was able to solve it by turning off the last 4 options in sound settings and unlocking the phone before i unplug it from the wall charger.
The lag in touchwiz launcher for a 700 euro device was not tolerable for me, so i replaced it with ADW EX launcher. You would expect that they would enable gpu acceleration in their launcher with ICS, but anyway.
The worst thing is that mmc_erase bug. I am actually scared to install CM9 because i have one of those 0x19 faulty chips according to the gotbrick app.
No updates to ICS for Greece even though 2 months have passed since DBT users had it, amoled black clipping issues with videos, black spots when you view black images at night (which is no issue according to them) <--- really?
The only option left for me is to get the next nexus device when that comes out, unless it is made by Samsung again (read: volume bug).
The emmc bug in SGN is shame on SAMSUNG, really i'm extremely disappointed. SHAM ON YOU SAMSUNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, once you're using Google or HTC phone, you'd say the same thing over in their respective threads. Trust me on this.

I've been using ICS stock non-root with great experience, but of course I wanted to use Titanium backup and CIFS, so I root. Is that such option in other OSes? Btw I think all those optimizations are actually placebo effects.

Oh that is calculative risk for Samsung not to rush out the firmware update. Who in the world would a normal user wipe their phone daily, weekly or monthly. A normal user would almost never factory reset the phone. Also, if it did indeed brick the phone, just bring it to your nearest Samsung service centre to get a free mainboard replacement. No warranty? Complain to the consumer association and get a refund.

It just sucks compared to my Notes screen. Lot of blotchy colors and no way to change the DPI to something other than what's for people with sight problems. For how much praise it gets, I laughed my ass off.
The ONE thing I did like about the ipad was the minimal battery drain in deep sleep.... Or maybe it's because it's a 11000mAh battery.
Oh the other thing was how much $$ I got for selling it.
If you do not like them and disappointed please just go get something better than that. I do know there is issue with but I like my note and I will go find better way to use this best one rather than complain and crying.
I know its really early in the developement for this awesum tablet, but has anyone heard of any forthcoming AOSP roms for this guy?
I havent flashed any of the existing custom roms out there yet, waiting for a fully working TWRP first, but, once that happens, I know I will be flashing away, and I think an AOSP rom for this tab would run incrediblly fast and smooth...
thanks if any one knows of any WIP..

I don't think its early- look at the galaxy s4... Its just not a popular tablet yet. Its too expensive and will never see the following of the n7. Development is just flat out slow or non existent.
I could be wrong, but I don't have much hope for a fun rom-flashing experience on this tablet, its just a solid work horse and does great as-is for what it is.
I think we will see some ported ROMs, just not too much. I doubt we will see much AOSP, considering you lose some of the features of this tablet.

Since the p1000 this is the first device witch has the thinks I want
The last year's I had p1000 and now the n5100 for everything smartphone, tablet, everything.
There were a lot of people on the p1000 forum and android development.
I can't believe that only a few people are now here.
The p1000 was about 650 Euro and the n5100 500 Euro.so it's not really expensive.
Sorry for my bad English
Sadly, development for the Note seems to be almost dead
I had a N10 before and loved flashing roms on it, Paranoid was my favorite . Now with the Note 8 i find that im so happy with it and what it does that i dont miss not having a ROM to flash.
The only thing i use is Nova Luncher and i unlocked it of course to be able to do nice things like increase multi window capabilities and get more out of the SD card and speakers.
I olso had an Ipad 2 before. And i can say with confidence that this is the best and more practical table i have ever owned!

What's up brotha!!?? I see birds of a fatrher flock together. I don't think we will see much AOSP based on this device,s stated loss of features via doing so.

Loving this tablet; when did you get yours?
We're just about to get a fully functional TWRP for this bad boy, and once that happens, I think things will pick up...
yeah, I guess you lose quite a bit on a tablet if you are running AOSP roms...hopefully, some more TW stuff gets ported over..

how is the HTC 1? I really like how it looks and feels, but HTC and its restrictive crap has kept me from getting one...do you miss your Note2?
Yeah,I have had my 8.0 for 2 weeks now and love it!! Rooted, but no custom recovery/roms yet...

i like the HTC one, good solid feeling device, has 4.2.2 sense already, yeah they play the boot loader game but they got s-off the day i picked it up, so unlocked boot loader, root and super CID all in one shot, plus samsung s4 on AT&T has locked boot loader now too. i dont miss my note honestly, a bit smaller , but comfortable in my hand. so i dont miss it, plus having this makes up for it if i did!
